Rie I thought you said you were flat out busy bank holiday weekend? But I would love to if you have a window and we can fit it in.

I'm not away yet Poll, but because we're only away for a weekend I wanted to plan a little (hence the beach question on facebook). Oh Tintagel! I have never been and always wanted to go. I am going to see if MrBoo can get an extra days annual leave so we can go down for a long weekend I think.

Sorry dear PESH, have hijacked your fred with holiday chat Blush.

owlbooty · 14/08/2011 21:42

Indeed, Occers, as long as the little dude is okay in there I intend to never be induced. I've done my research and the risks are minimal, really as the 40 week 'term' thing is absolute bollocks and something like 75% of pregnancies go over. After all, I was two weeks late myself so I can't blame him for staying put for a bit longer. :)

It has at least given me time to make a banana cake and also a large foccacia bread. I'm quite enjoying this baking time, in a funny sort of way.

MadameBoo · 14/08/2011 21:57

I am so bloody proud of you Wol (please to not feel patronised, but I truly am).

LadyGoneGaga · 14/08/2011 22:54

Just popping in to see how Our Wol is doing. Bugger that he is not here yet but do admire your fortitude and patience! But the next few days will whizz past, you have a lifetime together after all.

I got an ice cream maker for my birthday - please to pass on any pleasing recipes? Am making up for lost time with a lot of baked goods and carbs.

Had a luffly weekend. MrG had my birthday off work, did a family dinner and went to a friends daughters 2nd birthday party today. Our first weekend away as a family of four - Crikey but you need to take a lot of stuff. Slightly regretting not buying the Estate now.

rocketleaf · 15/08/2011 09:11

Glad you had a lovely birthday weekend gg

Any news wol? I have decided to post a cute baby owl pic every day until you lay in the hope it will tempt owlet out (maybe the cuteness will give you an oxytocin spike)

owlbooty · 15/08/2011 10:14

GAHHHHHHH those owls are unbelievable and have just made me make embarrassing SQUEEE noises. The Owlet scared the shite out of me this morning by not moving but has now woken up and is giving it welly as usual. The little bugger. GG you are so right that there's a lot of time ahead once he's arrived; I'm just concentrating on that and baking things in the interim Grin

Ice cream maker is a most excellent birthday gift :) This recipe is the best basic one I have found:

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1881/ultimate-vanilla-ice-cream

Pliz to note the deeply unhealthy nature but deliciousness. I have augmented it with blackberries, smooshed up a bit, which was also good. I've had to make all my ice cream with an egg-based custard due to not being allowed to eat raw eggs.

For a healthier fix a large carton of full fat greek yoghurt and about half the volume of fruit of some kind plus enough caster sugar melted into the fruit to sweeten it is also v.v.nice and takes a couple of minutes to fling together.

We also will need a new car I think - you can get the car seat etc in the tinycar I currently own but if we want to actually go anywhere it's going to be a really tight squeeze.

Boo I luff the area around Tintagel; that bit of Cornwall is just gorgeous. God I wish I lived by the sea. Couldn't really live further from it than I do at the moment; tis a right pain in the arse.

Medee · 15/08/2011 14:49

Awww, love the baby owls!

Scorpette · 15/08/2011 15:47

OwlerMonkey, good on you for insisting on doing it your way. Go PESH!

I went to my NCT reunion yesterday; not a single one of us had a 'natural' childbirth Grin The weird couple didn't turn up because their DS is a colicky nightmare, poor things. Still, it was hard not to feel a tad of schadenfreude aftrr they were so smug and judgeypants every week about how their uber-new age ways would make birth a breeze and ensure them an angelic baby...

V jealous of the ice-cream maker, GG. Babies need a lot of calcium, so I prescribe a bowl for you at every feed Wink

This is the easiest ice-cream recipe ever, with no forking (fnarr) required. I use vanilla extract, not pods and adapt it to my allergies. Bloody delish!

PS I have tasted some of my breast milk* and it's like watery ice-cream. Anyone want a flake with that TMI?!

*Some leaked on my hand when expressing and I licked it off without thinking. I wasn't sipping it out of a mug or nuffink!

rocketleaf · 15/08/2011 17:10

Yeah, its weirdly sweet isn't it score? Hmm cant imagine why that icecream would be so delicious with all those really horrible diet ingredient Shock I now want an ice cream maker to keep the juicer and the bread maker company in the place fad appliances live in the Leaf house (loft/back of cupboard)

Burrowing owls are the best owls FACT. they may not be as mysterious as barn owls or as regal as tawny owls but they are cute and clever and you can train them to fetch! I want one. (although to be fair Japanese transformer owl might be slightly cleverer but it's just a bit too freaky for me) The amount of owl themed things Sprout now owns is also getting a bit out of control.

Muser · 15/08/2011 19:49

A fan of owl themed baby stuff huh rocket? Have you been in a Baby Gap recently?

CurlyCasper · 15/08/2011 20:17

we have a Little Owl that sits in our apple tree. And barn owls that screech outside our bedroom. very cool birds.

now, if we could just have a Little Booty Owl. good luck wol, loving your determination.

rocketleaf · 15/08/2011 20:31

Yes muse there was much squeeing but no buying when we saw that as TB was with mr I am on a clothing embargo (althoigh I might still sneakily purchase)

That is really cool Casper I am very jealous! Most exotic bird we get is a tit (phnar) although we have had a red squirrel in the back garden.

MadameBoo · 15/08/2011 21:15

You lot have gone soft. I think even I'm harder than you guys, you with your owls and your squeeing :o

laurielou · 16/08/2011 07:53

A belated Happy Birthday Gee. Have no ice cream recipes but am happy to be chief taster.

Wol Being overdue is a pain, isn't it? But all the best people give birth 10 days overdue Grin. So tomorrow's the day!

Scorps I find it fascintating that none of your NCT class had the birth experience they planned. Before being diffed myself I honestly hadn't given this a thought. Do you think all MW's just suggest we write "birth plans" for their own amusement?

We had a good night with BugBoy! He had a feed at 11.15pm, then didn't wake until 6.15am. This is a one off fluke, right? Grin

Medee · 16/08/2011 09:23

even if it is,, just enjoy, Lou!

All of NCT class hd some sort of intervention, but managed no CSs.

BarbiesBeaver · 16/08/2011 09:30

. Thank you kindly you are quite right, the balance does need to be brought back into line. Get thee to Tintagel - tis lovely.

Psst, I've already got that Gap owl bodysuit!

Well done for hanging in there PloptheOwl. I'm beginning to think that due dates are a bunch of arse.

We bought a cot last night - seems quite scary and real that this might actually be happening now...although I can still get into my pre pregnancy jeans. I would quite like a bigger bump now. And before you pelt me with fish guts, I can only fit into them due to eating virtually nothing for three months.

rocketleaf · 16/08/2011 17:10

And today's baby owl pic

Out of our NCT group 2 out of the 3 planned homebirths happened. Two other natural births plus mine with the syntocyn and one induction ending in CS.

MadameBoo · 16/08/2011 17:43

I found writing a birth plan for my induction useful. It wasn't a plan really, so much really, more like a set of preferences for various situations. Writing it meant I knew what options were available to me (e.g I knew that I definitely didn't want pethidine but would be happy to have clomid if I asked for it).

MadameBoo · 16/08/2011 18:00

Apologies for my previous post. It was very dull.

AlpinePony · 16/08/2011 18:22

Not dull at all, just wondering why a woman in the middle of an induction would ask for clomid! were you expecting your husband to clamber on and pregnate your multiple ova? ;)?

Muser · 16/08/2011 18:29

Mixed births in my NCT. Everything from birth centre water birth to "oh shit we've just realised your baby is breech" c-section.

owlbooty · 16/08/2011 20:50

I luffs the ongoing owls. Grin

I have been up at the hossie today; Owlet distinguished himself by kicking off the ctg sensors twice and the doppler thingy repeatedly. All is well and MW is coming round for Third Rummage tomorrow. So far two of my NCT chums have laid; one was just G&A, don't know about the second yet. Bloody hossie MW gave me TALES OF DOOM re going over 42 weeks. I am not over 42 weeks yet. I hate it when people do that as I then proceed to dwell on it for the rest of the day and search out every research paper ever written which is no fun and rather stressful.

Barbs I was like that at 20 weeks and then ballooned like a whale a few weeks later. Tis kind of ace when it suddenly happens - it's pretty much overnight. :)

I am also wondering about the clomid?

Lozza that sounds like an amazing night - hoorah for BugBoy sleeping through!

MadameBoo · 16/08/2011 23:01

Oh shit, I meant Meptid. I have just cried with laughter!

MadameBoo · 16/08/2011 23:03

Worth a try though right... if you thought you might want another one straight away?

Truffkin · 16/08/2011 23:06

Love the owl stuff, body suit is very cute. Wol am sending you strength vibes in the face of the bullying midwife, hope the rummaging works for you so they can stop telling you horror stories.

Barbie I think I finally got a bump around 22 weeks, although I could definitely tell myself from about 18, it wasn't so as anyone else could notice anything different about me. I luffs the bump now though and am embracing maternity wear (great excuse for shopping!)

GeeGee the ice cream sounds lush, happy to join in with tasting. I have no recipes either as am really not a domestic goddess of any description.

I saw the midwife today and have put on an extremely unimpresssive 2.5lbs since diffment began. In reality this is because I lost a lot due to vommage but she was all 'oh we don't go by weight, we're much more interested in healthy eating' and a subtext of 'you were a porker to start with so don't go eating loads' then weighed me and kind of went, 'oh, that's not much is it? have you eaten any food at all in the last 6 months as that's really just the weight of the bairn and we'd expect you to have gained more by now'

I discussed my fears about the GTT results and she was quite non-committal, which I know is because really it's only a few days until I get the results so shouldn't be second guessing them. She did seem to think that the lack of any swelling and major weight gain are good signs, but will really just have the wait and see.

In other news, I appear to have fallen in love with this nursery furniture so instead of thinking we'll be fine with just a crib until we move, I am now thinking of how I could order this stuff and store the bits we don't need somewhere for the next 3 months Confused of course, the sensible thing to do is to think it will still be available at a reasonable price when we are ready to buy it and have it delivered to our new house, but I am not falling in love from my rational brain, that's fo sho. Even reading some less than flattering reviews online about the manufacturer hasn't been able to quell my lust. What has become of me?

By the way Wol I managed to keep the sugar solution down for the time it took me to get down the stairs and find a toilet last Friday, so am still living up to my vomtastic reputation I am hopeful that there may be a badge or medal somewhere with my name on it.

Loz nice work on the sleeping through, long may it continue.
