On the final stretch ladies, the waiting is nearly over for the arrival of our beautiful bundles of joy :)

RugbyWidow7 · 23/08/2011 11:40

Thanks David and Alibaba.

Alibaba I have the same dates as you and feel exactly the same!! So sick of saying the same thing to people...'no nothing yet'. Everyone means so well but I feel unexplainably completely demoralised at the moment. I think it's because everyone of my friends (outside NCT group) has now gone into labour and I'm left waiting and wondering.

Have strong back ache this morning but I'm going to ignore it completely and go out as we've been here, erm, about 10 times over the last 1.5 weeks.

RugbyWidow7 · 23/08/2011 11:42

That's v funny re the texts from your DH Jennifer, may try to encourage mine to do the same!

daisysair · 23/08/2011 12:23

rugbywidow nah at 40 weeks no cervix checking, but then i have a very laid back non medicalising mw. at 41 weeks I requested the sweep and she did it... but the cervix can change quickly so even if it's high and firm now doesn't mean that in a few hours it will still be the same.

annie thanks for the good luck vibes. tbh, I'd go with the male mw for the sweep. Chances are he has bigger hands and can do more than a female could if your cervix is still high. I was a bit embarassed about my piles when my mw did the sweep, but rationalised it that she'll have seen it all before!

alibaba fingers crossed for action before friday for you. i've heard of some people getting labour going on the drips, but then being left to go unhooked up so to speak for the actual labouring-wishful thinking??

dtm the walk might be worth it? not that it's done much for me yet-in fact i think most of these "get labour started things" aren't v scientific.

ignoring cake mentions lol ;)

neverlookback · 23/08/2011 13:21

alibaba when i was pg with my 1st my 2nd sweep said i was 1-2cm dialated i was soo excited, i didnt get any show but i did just about manage to go into labour 3 day later by myself, and finally delivered dd 5 days later so maybe it did help a little, i remember that those days between the mw saying i was 1/2cm and things actually starting were the most horrible days of my life like i was going out of my mind!
With ds i had 2 sweeps but was induced on day 13, i didnt have the gel it was this microchip thing they attached to the cervix and apperantly its more gentle than the gel as it can stay in for 24 hours so less internals, my cervix was still not good but within an hour of it being up there i was contracting, after 7 hours they took it out to examine me i was only 3cm but everything went natural from there and no need for the drip, thats the bit i really dont want, ive had 2 babies with just gas and air but if i had to have that drip id prob have to have epidural with i really want to avoid.

Im so sick of thinking about it all the time
im in a horrible mood today, the kids are driving me mad, ds has just poohed in the garden and got it all over his pants!!

CappuccinoCarrie · 23/08/2011 13:59

40+5 here today.
I've had another 'first' with this third baby, in that I had a show this morning, I've never seen the fabled 'pants snot' before, but there it was!
MW gave me another sweep and there's been no change since Friday - cervix still high, posterior, long, and shut. MW encouraged at all the BH I've been having (esp the 2 hours of painful ones on Sunday) and she really thinks this will happen naturally for me...but just in case it doesn't I'm booked for induction next Tuesday, so that's another 'first'. I cried a lot after my appt this morning :(
never I totally agree about induction and the drip, I think I'd have to have an epidural to cope with that, but that comes with risks and knock-on effects like having to stay in after the birth when I'm desperate to come home. It worries me that induction can take 4 days - I would hate to be away from the DCs for that long.
I just wanted DS's birth again - 3 days early, just a few hours, pool birth and straight home afterwards. Grump.
I was offered Tuesday or Thursday for induction - Thurs obv being 1st Sept, but in the end I opted for Tues because my pfb DD starts school on the 7th, and if induction takes 4 days I might not be well enough to take her on her first day and I just don't want to miss that experience for anything. So this baby might go to school a year earlier, but I was expecting that anyway. Or I might be induced in August and give birth in Sept...who knows?!
DH has done some overtime so he can come home early today and for the next 2 days which is a relief to me as I've got less and less energy for DD and DS.

RugbyWidow7 · 23/08/2011 17:11

Well it sounds like you're having a very different experience to me with the mw Capp. I'm 40+2 today and went in for my mw app earlier. She has booked me in for an induction on 2nd September. I asked about a sweep and she said to ring the hospital when I'm 7 days overdue! That sounds like a lot to me but she said I can ring and try to get in earlier if I want to, to see if they'd do it. Apparently the reason they put it off is that it can cause unnecessary early contractions which can make you really tired. Well, I thought I'd be having one on Thurs, obvs not! Now not sure whether to ring or not!

KTisPG · 23/08/2011 19:31

Hello all. Still PG and no sign here either - sypathies for everyone. I'm pretending that I'm not due now and am merrily booking up things for me and the DC to do every day - play dates, cinema, lunch with friends etc - I'm on summer holiday entertainment duty - baby, what baby, oh that's my pie fetish!! :o

Seems to be working so far this week, as I'm not feeling too demoralised, although I may have to disconnect the phone. xx

neverlookback · 23/08/2011 20:05

cappcarrie i went in to be induced on the Wed morn and i had ds at 3am on the thurs, i think with you already having 2 that your body will just need a bit of a nudge then it will all kick in and do it by itself, thats what im thinking for me too, so if they offer me a couple of dates im going to go for the earlier one too, but I bet you go before then. I totally know what you mean about having less and less energy for my other children, wish someone would just take them away for a few hours every day!! x

CappuccinoCarrie · 23/08/2011 21:18

rugby to be fair I think they might have a point about un-necessary early contractions that don't do anything, that's been the effect of some of our, ahem, home made induction attempts too. I've been having BH all evening but they're not in any way painful. I had this for three evenings in a row before DS finally came so I have no real hope that the baby will come tomorrow, but maybe Friday?!
never that's really good to hear, thank you!

LifeOfKate · 24/08/2011 07:26

Hi all, am sorry to read so many of you are so fed up, I totally feel your pain and am so glad that it's now all over for me!

Congratulations to everyone who has had their new babies :)

I was supposed to go in for induction on Monday morning, but our new daughter put in an appearance on Sunday night after a 2 1/2 hour labour Shock Her name is Rosa and she is lovely :) Will post my birth story when I have a little more time.

Annie456 · 24/08/2011 07:31

Congratulations lifeofkate such a beautiful name too! 2 and a half hour labour sounds scary, you'll have to let us know about that one!!!
Hope all is going well so far!
Xx

RugbyWidow7 · 24/08/2011 07:48

Congratulations Lifeofkate, and what a gorgeous name! Please post your birth story soon - it sounds like the sort I'd like to hear. Smile

Thanks Capp. Nothing I do seems to bring on any action - even the BH have completely petered out now! Good luck with yours Wink. Day 3 is only 2 days away now!

MrsChemist · 24/08/2011 08:14

Congratulations lifeofkate Grin

davidtennantsmistress · 24/08/2011 09:59

well, v dejected here, am now 40+1, very emotional. but on the plus DS is at a play thing today - under protest as he wants to be with me all the time, so can take to the sofa with trashy american tv & jeremy kyle and do nothing but watch & eat chocolate.

anyhow midwife y'day had my first sweep, which to be quite frank was awful, uncomfortable but then again I couldn't relax & went against her. anyhow she reached the baby's head and swept around it am 1-2 cm apparently. (not uncommon for a second as I hear it). having read google it's apparently weeks you can stay in this position. I have a consultant apt on friday so can ask for another sweep - I shall do I think, & also ask for an induction date for next week, given that I had such a bad time with DS, plus he's due to go back to school on the 6th and again I deffo don't want to miss it, so if he can start me off on monday I will be +6 and happ(ier). DS is a bit worrying atm, he's v quiet and actually asked DP & I what will happen to him when the baby's born - ie if we'll still want him. :(. just want this baby out now have had enough. :( oh and apparently he's currently at least 8.5lb - oh the joy. :(

anyhow.

annie - did you go on with the male sweep?

cappy - fingers crossed for you how's the BH's going?

jen - I like your thinking on the cake front. did your BH's come to anything yet?

ali - feeling your pain on the questions being asked front - what is it with some people - do we look like bloody animals in a petting zoo who need to be ogled at? it's bad enough DP sitting there watching me as if i'm going to explode without my brother ringing up 5 minutes after I get in from the w.e last night only to demand 'well, nothing yet then' - erm yes that's why i'm answering the bloody phone to you. needless to say an hour of crying later DP had finally bribed me with copious amounts of galexy. :o

daisy how are you doing? ref the walking - I tried 2 hours with the dogs on sunday nada, althou with DS is was a row & walking the dogs that got him out 3 days later.

hope everyone's more comfortable today - at least it's not baking hot atm.

davidtennantsmistress · 24/08/2011 10:09

big congrats life of kate.

CappuccinoCarrie · 24/08/2011 13:01

Had another night of BH that were too painful to sleep through, but not painful enough to be considered actual contractions so the end result is I'm even more miserable through sleep deprivation and crushed hopes since I really thought it might be it this time (will I ever learn?!).
DH has worked some overtime so that he can come home early for a few afternoons which is such a relief, I've just got to survive 2 more hours (and DS will be asleep for most of that, and DD is watching TV) then I can skulk off to bed for a nap and he can do something energetic with them like go for a bike ride.
DTM poor you trying to explain things to your DS, its so hard on the little ones isn't it since they really don't understand what life with a new baby means. I'm sure he'll be a wonderful big brother though :)

JenniferYellowHatsRedLingerie · 24/08/2011 14:03

40+7...
OMG. I'm really sick of this now.
Doctor rang before and said that I've just got thrush (again!) so just off there to pick up a prescription; at least it's not strep B or anything more serious. Then mw for sweep :(
DH and I have decided we'll take the induction date offered to us, whenever it is. So it's looking like I'm spending the bank holiday in fucking hospital hooked up to a fucking drip. ARSE! I hold no hope out for this sweep at all, I just don't feel like anything is any different at all.
Congrats tho LifeofKate it seems like the threat of induction brings these babies along, so fx for me! Beautiful name as well.
Who was going in today for induction? Good luck anyway :)
Ttfn, will let you know if the sweep does anything x

JenniferYellowHatsRedLingerie · 24/08/2011 15:46

Sweep didn't happen - cervix still too high and very definitely closed.
Induction booked for Monday at 40+12.
labour dance is definitely needed for me now ladies! :)

daisysair · 24/08/2011 16:11

well induction booked for friday 40+12.

had another sweep today, where mw managed to get to cervix-though hardly felt anything, so not holding out much hope, she thinks i'll pop before friday. really hope so as otherwise it's medical ward not birthing unit (1 floor up!!!!!!!!!) will try and persuade them to let me up if i labour after the gel.

am off to my parents for a bbq tonight (adds an extra 15 mins to hospital, but i need distracting!)

get to cuddle my baby by the weekend though! big hugs to others in similar position!

Teladi · 24/08/2011 16:26

My waters went at lunchtime today. Still haven't had any contractions so called the hospital and I'm now booked for induction on Sunday which is 96 hours after my waters broke, and also 40+1. Now sitting here bouncing on my ball while typing. Have been for a walk, done some hoovering. Feeling a bit crampy but haven't felt any contractions yet... come on hormones, do your stuff... I don't want to be induced!

JenniferYellowHatsRedLingerie · 24/08/2011 16:43

Oooh Teladi, that's exciting :) hope it all kicks in for you v soon. Let us know how you get on xx
I feel your pain daisy, I need distracting too. Good luck for Friday

KTisPG · 24/08/2011 20:01

Good luck Teladi

Well I've been having mild contractions every 10 mins since about 4am this morning but no real progress - membranes in tact, no show, so am grumpy. Really hoping its going to kick off this eve - have also been for a walk, bounced on ball and think I might have to make DH do his duty and dtd. Really really don't want days of this

Annie456 · 24/08/2011 21:51

Good luck teladi!! and sounds promising for you KT...

I've been having really painful braxton hicks for the past few hours, really strong to the point that I couldnt eat my dinner or bend forward while they were happening. The are all really high up on the bump, anyone else start out like this? I had diarrhea last night too and have had lots of wind! Obviously clutching at straws where possible but just wondered if anyone else started this way??!!

Teladi · 25/08/2011 07:30

Definitely had the diarrhoea and the wind... just missing the whole contraction part still.

It feels exactly like I have my period right now - sore pubic bone, period pains, can feel the waters leaking, but I can also feel the baby kicking. So it's a bit bizarre. I thought things might happen overnight but nothing yet. DH will be going back to work and I guess I'll try and chill out here - bit more ball bouncing, a walk again... I feel a bit helpless but I guess it'll either start or it won't.

I'm thinking of all of us faced with the induction clock right now!! I just didn't think I would be on that clock so early!

davidtennantsmistress · 25/08/2011 07:42

well nothing happening here, hips are aching not sleeping, but least I have a tens machine now. :o even dtd makes no odds atm, and tbh it's painful for me to ahem yes well all positions now are uncomfortable so I give up I really think this baby's not going to go anywhere and will need to be prised out. lets hope tomorrow's sweep/consultants apt will be better and will get a date/some movement.

jen - sorry you didn't manage a sweep. get dancing jumping walking and bouncing on that ball - on the plus side least you have the end in sight thou now.

tel - good luck for today hope it all happens soon.

annie - I get them over the top of my bump esp when i'm walking about/doing anything exercise wise, apparently they're BH's but i'm not convinced tbh. other than that diarrhea is a good sign I think.

daisy - good luck hope it all kicks off for you today.

cappy - how are you today? indeed DS will be fine i'm sure, we did reassure him, it's all just new & likewise he's been used to having me all to himself for the last 5.5 years but we'll muddle through it.

really have had enough now. and I swear the next person who texts/rings and says 'still here then' i'm going to bloody slap!
