Ooooh could we be having another birth soon...? How are you winter?
annie I hope you feel settled in your house again soon, what a horrible experience.
My lovely friends organised a surprise baby shower for me last night, I had absolutely no idea til they knocked on the door and brought in all the stuff for a non-alcoholic cocktail party. It was brilliant, and I couldn't believe how many people I'd seen in the last week and not one of them had let slip we'd be meeting up again so soon! There were some great games and people were getting very into the cocktail making, a definitely to be repeated evening...although without the baby theme next time
Also they clubbed together to get me a pregnancy massage (complete with one of the girls offering childcare for my DD and DS
) which I hope to cash in next week :) :) :)
Revisiting the routine debate, GF totally saved my sanity with my DCs. I would have had no idea how often they should feed/nap/for how long, but it gave me the confidence to know if the baby had had a good feed and some awake time, that the next thing was a nap rather than trying to feed a baby that was actually tired. And far from encouraging leaving them to cry, GF is actually about anticipating their needs and meeting them before they're overtired/overhungry (hence the title 'contented'). Without her it would never have occurred to me to take an apparently awake little baby for a nap and do a 10 min quiet cuddle and wind-down and put them in their cot drowsy but awake. By the time both my DCs were three months they were easily settling themselves in their cots for naps and sleeping well overnight, which I attribute to her great guidance, and the baby whisperer's routine of eat, activity, sleep.
But I totally understand its not for everyone, I love structure and routine and spreadsheets and lists, but some people get stressed by those things and I wouldn't recommend trying to be the sort of parent that isn't your natural character.
