So sorry for all of you who haven't had happy news. It is such a worrying time, I've been feeling much more energetic the last few days and have been stressing out about that! Had a run in with the doctors receptionist this morning. We're on holiday, the midwife hadn't contacted me before we left and so I thought I'd better ring in case she'd been trying to get in touch with mesince we've been away. The receptionist refused to pass a message on to her and said it was highly unlikely that the midwife would have tried to contact me. I suggested that she might have tried as I'll be 12 weeks next week and she then replied that it wasn't her responsibility to ensure the midwife contacted me....missed my point in ringing completely!! Grrr I know there are many very lovely doctors receptionists out there but why are a few of them such control freaks!! Anyway so now I'm worried that they won't be able to fit me in for a scan before 13 weeks and i won't be able to have a nuchal translucency test. I even tried to pay for a scan privately whilst on holiday but over here apparently they won't let you unless you have a referral from a doctor. Ah well, I'll just have to wait I suppose :)

Curlygirl72 · 21/06/2011 22:25

So sorry mama5 and fubble, just too too awful and we are all thinking of you both. Be well. X Smile

Curlygirl72 · 21/06/2011 22:29

Lots of sadness, anxiety and sickness today ladies. We need to get ourselves into a more positive state of mind so we grow happy little babies!!
It is hard though, feels like so much could go wrong... But whatever happens is meant to be, and I'm sure that wonderful things are awaiting all of us. X

blueeyedmonster · 22/06/2011 07:02

Oh gosh mama5 i'm sorry :(

fishandlilacs · 22/06/2011 13:16

mama5 and fubble. I am sorry, so sorry for your news, thinking of you both. Devastating at this stage but bad at any time. Arms around you and loved ones xx

I had 6 pages to cath up on so I have skim read it, i do hope I haven't missed any other important news.

Had scan today but they couldn't get an accurate enough picture to get the measurements done so going back in 2 weeks like you AG123, but theres a heartbeat and a wiggling thing in there so thats something. What a horrid moment though, they couldn't find anything at first.

Sickness seems to have gone and my palate has changed back to an adults after being that of a childs for the last 2 months. Thankfully I am eating healthier now instead of greggs cheese and onion pasties and sweets. Now I have a big thing for egg mayonaise sandwiches though so not much better really. At least I can ace veg again, I couldn't bear it a while back.

ag123 · 22/06/2011 13:24

oh well good to know i'm not the only one fishandlilacs

dp has just posted our scan photo on his facebook page. He did ask me if he could and I gave a 'if you really really want to' reply so realise I could have said no, but still feel a tiny bit uncomfortable about it. Lovely that he's so excited though...

knittiekitty · 22/06/2011 14:17

Mama5 I'm so sorry for you and your family - I'm at a loss for words and sending a hug feels so useless. Will be thinking of you and know your faith will hold you tight.

Fryn · 22/06/2011 16:45

I'm so sorry to hear your news Mama5 and fubble. Take care of yourselves, and it'll happen for you soon.

Fryn · 22/06/2011 16:52

I managed to have my booking in appointment today - is it me or is there far more paperwork than a couple of years ago?? It was an hour, and 45 mins of that was the MW scribbling on bits of paper. As my DD came surprisingly quickly for a first, they seem quite keen for me to go for a home birth this time - apparently they clean up after if all (I wanted to ask if they could do the kitchen, bathroom and stick on a wash at the same time...) Hmm - probably too much of a worrier for that. Anyway, still need to have my first scan (not for another 3 1/2 weeks - gah!) and find out if there really is anything in there.

monkeymamma · 22/06/2011 19:52

Just catching up on last few days, and I am so sorry Mama5 and fubble. We will all be thinking of you.

Sorry to hear you have had such a hard time getting maternity care, mum2b79. I have been impressed so far with mine (ease of booking, getting through to change an appointment) but haven't actually had my BA yet (it isn't until next Friday... the time seems to be going so slowly!!)

Mum2be79 · 22/06/2011 20:21

Just done some research and found that I am not an isolated case. It seems York hospital have been having this problem since April as another woman found herself in the same position as I and they gave the SAME story - backlog of cases, not booked into the maternity care team yet!!! An absolute disgrace! If things don't improve, I am taking myself North to Newcastle nearer my due date to have the baby there! (My parents live in Newcastle)

BigHotMama · 22/06/2011 20:44

So sorry to hear sad news thinking of you both fubble and mama5 xx

BigHotMama · 22/06/2011 20:50

Feeling mega bloated on evenings feel like 5 months already maybe it's time to have smaller portions for tea as can't seem to breathe properly afterwards.

I have been rumbled on mumsnet by one of best friends she saw my username and clicked onto our thread so felt awful when she rang me to congratulate me, was planning to tell her on a night out but she found out on here Blush gutted! (haven't been on here for years until now so didn't think she would remember my user)

How is everyone else feeling? Hope nausea is easing up! X

Bellakins · 22/06/2011 20:56

So sorry mama5, thinking of you.

I am amazed at the variety of experiences regarding antenatal care so far, regarding booking appointments, scans etc. I'm in Edinburgh and it was as simple as calling the number my doctor's gave me as soon as I found out I was pregnant, gave the lady on the phone my LMP date. She gave me a due date, gave me a date for my booking in appointment and a date for scan. Ok, so the confirmation letters went missing in the post a few times but we got in there in the end! Can't believe some have had to wait so long, it's really shocking and an unnecessary stress.

Linda40 · 22/06/2011 21:03

Mama5 my heart goes out to you and your family ((hugs))

Fryn yes there is definately more paper work that 7 or 10 years ago! And a lot more waffling from the midwives. Blah Blah Blah!

Bighotmama Im feeling exactly the same in the evenings, like a beached whale, and when Im putting the DDs to bed in so out of breath. I hope things are going to improve.

Ive been trying to buy holiday clothes today but so not in the mood. Feeling too frumpy. Also Im away for 8 weeks so having to buy stuff that will 'grow' with me. Its not an enjoyable experience.... grrrrr...

blueeyedmonster · 22/06/2011 21:45

I'm feeling really bloated too, especially in the evenings.

Does anyone who has already got a dc got any experience of strep b? I've just been told I have it (from a swab I got taken last week because I felt things weren't right! Glad I did now). On anti b's now and the info has been passed onto my midwife and I may have to have anti b's before labour.

Everything I've found online says a drip in labour. I may not be in labour long enough for that plus I really like to be mobile.

Moobee · 23/06/2011 07:44

Hi everyone, I'm feeling really bloated too. I'm at the airport about to start what will probably be a 17 hour day (travel time included). I have to give an important talk in Geneva at about the time my sickness kicks in... Wish me luck, I think I might need it!

ghosteditor · 23/06/2011 09:27

oh moobee that doesn't sound like fun! hope it goes well though.

In a turn up for the books, my nausea has been much less obvious in the last few days and I think I'm finally through the worst of it without having to eat my body weight in carbs to keep my blood sugar steady. I've been very lucky so far - some friends are coming to stay this weekend and (they don't know yet but) our due dates are two days apart! Unfortunately she suffers really badly with vomiting for the first few months; I really feel for her. I think we're going to tell them though as it will be a good chance for them to impart some PFB wisdom Grin

shonnomanom · 23/06/2011 10:10

So very sorry to hear you news mama5 x

fryn i like your thinking
oh moobee hope you have a good day

Iv been getting out of breath a lot recently. We were at BonJovi in Edinburgh last night and I couldnt keep up with the crowd walking from the train station to Murrayfield. And as for stairs! Evil contraptions!

My parents kept dd overnight last night so I need to get dressed and go collect her. Loved getting a long lie today :)

Thinking happy thoughts for all up and coming scans x

tigana · 23/06/2011 13:00

blueeyed....strep b, me too!

sickness easing off now, halleiujah!!

dating/nuchal on monday....then ( and I'm going to assume that all will be well) I can finally go properly public!!

tigana · 23/06/2011 13:04

this is dc2 for me, no group b strep with dc1 (don't know they even tested for it).
antibiotics in labour i think, they have things they can do if you tend to have quick labours. a drip bag can go on a drip stand, which has wheels, so as far as i'm concerned, as long as I bang on about it in delivery room, I can be fairly mobile (just training a drip stand around with me Grin)

Weevie · 23/06/2011 13:46

Hey everyone,

mama5 and fubble im so sorry to hear your news. I hope you both have happy pregnancies soon.

fifi i agree with what you said, I had an early scan at 6 weeks, but knowing that you could loose it inbetween is horrible.

I received my scan date earlier this week, its on the 11th July, so I will update my info on the list soon.

DH is away tonight so its just me and the dogs. I really want to take them for a walk around the park but like others im getting out of breath so easily. Plus some nasty person has been putting anti freeze in puddles and water around 4 parks where we live and quite a few dogs have died. So maybe ill wait until DH can keep an eye on them aswell.

We just found out that DH is going away when im 4 months and coming back when in 8 months so he is going to get a bit of a shock when he gets back =)

Hope everyone is ok and the nausea is easing off a little. I have found lemon drizzle cake hepls me =)

SlightlyScrambled · 23/06/2011 17:26

I'm so sorry to hear about your losses fubble and Mama5. I hope things get better soon. My thoughts are with you.

fishandlilacs · 23/06/2011 19:10

how soon do you think you feel movement? I'm sure most would say it's too early but I definately feel something. Have done for a few weeks, not sure if it's just muscle twitches though. It certainly feels baby like.

blueeyedmonster · 23/06/2011 19:50

Same here tigana dc2 and no strep last time! You are right they are on wheels aren't they. I'll make them let me drag it round too, thank you. I was thinking that I would be stuck on the bed and i am sure it did me no good last time. I was fine when I was moving about at home so want to make sure I am mobile at hospital too. I have to talk to my midwife about the options at my 16wk check up.

I first felt movements at 14 weeks with ds. They say it can be earlier with subsiquent babies. I just had what felt like strong movement (almost kick like) but know it can't be yet that strong. Must have been a muscle spasm. It has reminded me how much I love feeling those kicks though, can't wait!
