Week on Tuesday. I am a bit chubby and have always been told I have strong muscles during smear tests so that's probably why. Thread has gone a bit quiet. Is the novelty of being pregnant wearing off?

BluebellsintheSpring · 17/07/2011 16:57

I think it tends to be quieter at the weekends - perhaps some people away on hols.

Cherrypi - it was 22 weeks before my friend felt anything: it seems to vary quite a bit! It's just frustrating waiting!

My 20 week scan is tmrw - excited and a little nervous. Looking forward to seeing baby again as my first scan was 10 weeks ago!

itsybitsy08 · 17/07/2011 17:53

BluebellsintheSpring - I have my 20 week scan tommorow also! Cant wait! Have been trying not to get too excited, but now im back in the house with nowt to do (DD is away camping with my mam and dad) its unbearable!

This is my second pregnancy Cherrypi, and people say you feel the movements sooner, but its only been the last few days I have started. Usually on a morning when I wake up with a full bladder, and on a night when I am lying relaxing. 'Tis lovely :)

MyBloodyChamber · 17/07/2011 19:11

Hello! I'm due December 1st with my second.

Have felt nothing as of yet and starting to wonder what's going on-as the weight is coming from somewhere! Scan on Tuesday, but though it'd be wise to follow everyone else's progress!

sevendwarves · 17/07/2011 21:45

I'm 17+5 and have felt a lot more movements today than the usual one or two, although they're still very gentle rather than proper 'kicks'.

I started sorting through all of DS's old baby clothes earlier, separating what is boys and what is unisex, we're going baby shopping the day after my next scan so I want to be organised and have an idea of what we need. I found it hard to believe DS was ever small enough to fit in some of his baby clothes, they look so tiny!

I realised earlier that if I have this baby at the same point in my pregnancy as I had DS tomorrow will be my halfway point. Does anyone else feel that time's going really fast?

Good luck to bluebells and itsy for your scans tomorrow.

MarkStretch · 17/07/2011 22:04

Hello

Do you mind if I join you? I am 16 weeks pregnant with my third DC and my due date is actually the 1st of January but I will be having a third CS in the last week of December. Actually they have given me the choice of 2 dates and I have to decide if I want to have it before or after christmas!

I already have a 9yr old DD from a previous relationship, a 2yr old DS with DH and DH has a 9yr old daughter also from a previous relationship (who normally stays with us a couple of times a week) so together this will be our 4th child! Hasn't really sunk in yet but my clothes no longer fit so I am expecting it will soon!

Very excited to be pregnant again although slightly nervous about the challenges having 4 children will bring! Grin

sevendwarves · 17/07/2011 22:38

Hi stretch. I'd have to go with before Christmas, I'll be gutted if I go overdue and can't enjoy the Christmas stilton. DH has even told me he wants the baby just before Christmas so he gets christmas and new year off work for his paternity leave!

Velvetunderground · 18/07/2011 08:09

Hi, i'm due in December with my second and i have my 20 week scan in two weeks time Smile

Is anyone else going to find out if they are having a girl or a boy?

How many weeks do men get off for paternity leave please?

msbuggywinkle · 18/07/2011 08:49

Hello and congrats to the new people to the thread!

stretch I'd go with before Christmas too, more chance of plenty of people to run round after you while you recover!

I've had a very stressful weekend, my lack of a doula is keeping me awake all night. The doula I had for DD2's birth wants to do it but she'll have a 4/5mth old baby herself and I'm very noise intolerant during labour! I really don't think I can do it without a doula, I have PTSD issues from DD1's birth that mean I have very full on panic attacks if midwives touch me while I'm in labour!

sevendwarves · 18/07/2011 09:30

velvet I'll be finding out but already have a feeling it's a girl. Men get 2 weeks paternity but only get paid £119(ish) per week so make sure you can afford it, when we had DS we were quite skint but thankfully DH's boss let him take 2 weeks holiday instead.

mrsbuggywinkle hope you get your doula sorted soon.

Velvetunderground · 18/07/2011 10:00

I am stupidly over excited as my new maternity clothes are here (i ordered online) Blush

Velvetunderground · 18/07/2011 10:04

mrsbuggywinkle hope you get a doula sorted

sevendwarves thank you for the paternity advice Smile

I am going to find out and then see what new baby things we have to get the old baby stuff out of the loft.

I have been feeling butterfly kicks on and off for the past two weeks, i think its when the baby turns round Confused

HoneyLovesCake · 18/07/2011 10:22

Morning ladies, I'm sooooo tired this morning as I was up 'til 2am with my cat who gave birth to 4 kittens yesterday. Felt like a practice run for my labour Grin I only hope that I deal with it as well as she did; when the 1st one was crowning I kept saying to DP "there's no way she'll get it out...it's too big"...really made me wince to see her stretch like that Shock

Had my 20 week scan on Friday & all went well; everything measured average apart from femur length which was long...I've been telling DP from the start I hope the baby has my long legs rather than his diddy ones so that was good Grin.

I'm trying to look on the bright side & not stress about the fact that my placenta is lower than it should be at this stage. I actually had a kind of premonition it would be so it was the first thing I asked her to check (watching too much Baby Time on Sky Blush) According to my pg books there's only a 1/200 chance of placenta praevia but I've been so focused on a natural homebirth vs a hospital birth that I hadn't realised how much the thought of a CS scares the hell out of me :( On the bright side I get another scan at 32 wks :) & there's a 99.5% chance everything will be fine.

MarkStretch · 18/07/2011 10:36

The thing I am worried about having the baby before Christmas is being in hospital on Christmas day, although DD said she wouldn't mind if DH brought them and presents to the hospital and they can open them with me. I suppose is only one day after all and only this year it would be disrupted and we could always celebrate it properly when baby and I come home.

It is my birthday on the 27th of December and I can confirm that a birthday after Christmas is much more rubbish!

Mmmmcheese · 18/07/2011 11:02

Hi everyone. I had an extra scan last week (at 16 weeks) as I've had various complications but we found out that it is a girl! Was strange that I didn't react immediately at all - I was convinced it was a girl anyway for some reason so just felt like a confirmation! Very excited though. Just means that she will have to put up with wearing some of DS's blue hand-me-downs!

Have had a horrible stomach upset all weekend, couldn't even keep water down. At least it means a day in bed today rather than going to work! Was worried about the baby but spoke to NHS direct and they said it wouldn't affect her - just that i would feel extra bad as she would take all the energy she needs from me. Going to try some dry toast now. Hope it goes ok!

Mizza76 · 18/07/2011 11:05

Hi all, just had my 20-week scan - although I'm really only just 19 weeks, I had it early as I am going away on Wednesday for 6 weeks. Baby was very wriggly and there were a couple of things they couldn't catch properly - I need to come back in September for a late scan. I don't mind, will be nice to see the baby again! Hardest part was telling them not to tell me the gender. I really am dying to know but my husband doesn't want to know and I just couldn't keep that secret :-(

DarciesmumandBump2 · 18/07/2011 11:41

Welcome to newbies on the thread Grin

Well I have a very active baby today hehe. Seems like it's ages away till 10 August when we have our next scan.

Have a bad migraine today Sad and always hungry too.

Xiaoxiong · 18/07/2011 11:49

Well scan on Thurs went brilliantly - lovely to see the baby on the screen and we got a lovely profile picture and the nose looks just like DH's. The midwife had it facing us at one point with its mouth wide open and it looked like the freaky voldemort face that comes roaring out of clouds and fire and stuff in the harry potter films. In serious news though everything checked out fine, placenta in a good place and growth right on target - 50th centile for everything at the moment. We didn't find out the gender so that will remain a mystery!

I'm 20+2 now and feeling loads of movements - now I know they really are movements and not just stomach gurgles because the baby was stretching out and doing bicycle kicks during the scan - I could see and feel the baby at the same time which was amazing.

My mother was supposed to come but due to a mix-up with train times she didn't make it - which was a relief really, it was great to be there just with DH. Now he has gone away for 2 weeks - I cried when he left and I never do that, must be hormonal neediness!!

BluebellsintheSpring · 18/07/2011 11:59

Mmmmcheese - hope you're feeling better soon!

Just back from 20 week scan - baby was nestled very low down which made things a little tricky. It did a fair bit of wriggling as well but she persisted and got to the point that she was happy everything looked fine.

Baby seemed spot on size-wise with slightly long legs but with a 6ft 10' husband, that's not a surprise! I was just relieved baby wasn't huge! EDD is 3rd Dec.

They don't tell you the sex so none the wiser there. There was one shot of baby with legs up and I couldn't see any little dangling bits so might be
girl although that's still a fairly wild guess!

vicannhawk · 18/07/2011 19:47

Hi everyone,

Due on Dec 18th, I'm in Solihull so if anyone is in or around, hello :), my next scan is on 2nd August, can't wait. Have been feeling the baby move for ages, but it's kicking around like crazy now!!

I'm not having an easy pregnancy and am high risk, but have to say it's the best decision I ever made!

x

itsybitsy08 · 18/07/2011 20:36

Hiya everyone. So glad to hear all the good scan news!
Had my 20 week scan today. Every thing fine and as it should be :)
We found out the gender and we are having a boy Grin already have a DD so over the moon.
Got a brill scan photo of baby's foot - you can see all the little toes.
Good luck to everyone with upcoming scans!

KateM77 · 19/07/2011 07:32

Hi everyone. So nice to hear all this positive scan news. Just 6 days to wait for mine now :)

msbuggywinkle · 19/07/2011 08:31

Great to hear so much good scan news! Can't wait for mine, this baby should feel honoured that I'm cutting two days off my favourite camping trip for it Grin

Anyone else sick of the rain yet? I'm spending half my life shooing the chickens out of the kitchen as they hate the wet!

jomouse · 19/07/2011 09:52

Hello everyone!
Hope you're all well
Very bored of the rain here.
Has anyone else started getting bladder issues during the night? Shattered today as I was up 7 times in the night. Also feeling pretty whale like. i seem to have got enormous suddenly and now cant tie shoes or get up quickly without flailing around a bit first. Only 20 weeks and feeling like this already, is this normal?
On a more positive note - little kicks getting stronger and I have made a complete beginning to end excel sheet of baby costings - everything is on there down the cotton wool balls and bath thermometers...

Hello & welcome to all the 'noobs', glad all the scans have gone well!

Jomouse, I'm 18wks & have lost my waist in the last week, it's like overnight I gained an extra 10lbs (although my weight hasn't gone up since wk 15-ish), really struggling with being this heavy (I'm 6lbs away from the heaviest I've ever been, hated being fat then, still hate it now even though I know it's for a good reason), mentioned it to the MW at 16wk apt & she just laughed & said 'Thank God the skinny ones suffer too', which made me feel GREAT(!)

Has anyone else got sciatica, what do you find helps?
