Back from hospital. Luckily it was the nice young doctor I saw last time. He was quite frank, without being too scary, although he didn't tell me anything I hadn't already read on google. (Cord may drop out and be dangerous for baby, or placenta may detatch and be very bad for me, along with increased risk of bleeding afterwards)
So, I'm off for another hour on a monitor on Monday, and Citrus junior is being induced on Wednesday! Eek!

Can I have plenty of "keep the plug in till next week" vibes!

PrisonerZero · 09/06/2011 16:13

I am back from my midwife appointment.

Midwife was brilliant, I was in her room for an hour Shock (and sorry to those with appointments after mine Blush) and she offered and gave me a sweep even though I am only 40 weeks today. She said I am 2cm and the head is well down etc so everything looks favourable.

I told her my concerns about being left over due and she got straight on the phone and spoke to the head midwife and also the consultant, she told them that she thought I should be induced before 40+8 and really fought my corner. Unfirtunately the consultant said no, but has said she will see me on wednesday and 40+5 to discuss it then.

I think the difference was that I went in with a written list of what I wanted with NICE guidlines quoted next to them - I did apoligise to her for being so pushy and a pain, but said that I had been worrying. The guidlines say from 41+0 to 42+0 which is why she asked for 8 days over, so that it fits in with them.

Might have a jog up and down the stairs to see if that starts anything off.

Off to read the rest of the thread now Smile

8rubberduckies · 09/06/2011 16:26

Great news Prisoner and Almighty, sounds like you've had successful days! And, it looks like you're both going to meet your babies very soon! Smile.

Just started on the batch cooking mission, chicken marinading for a chicken tagine to make tomorrow, and a hot (maybe a bit too hot for a breastfeeding Mum, oops) aubergine and sweet potato curry. Am feeling very smug I've got around to it at last, but my back is killing me Confused.

milliemuffin · 09/06/2011 16:54

Barbie Really hoping things start happening soon for you.

Kara I've been following your thread, how did you do on the wii?

I've just got back from reflexology. My trigger points were soft and ripe enough to be accessible but not so ripe that I'm about to go into labour so she thinks I'm probably going to have this baby hopefully between 38 and 39 weeks just like my other two. Obviously it's not an exact science but it's put my mind at ease a little that a) I have this weekend to do as much as I can with the kids and b) it's very very doubtful that I'll go overdue. It was an hours session and I actually fell asleep for the last 15/20mins! When she asked me to take a deep breath she woke me up and made me jump a little. Feel much better for having been. Not quite so on edge about going to the shops with the kids or DP being at a meeting in London so I'm just looking forward to next weeks treatment.

8rubberduckies · 09/06/2011 17:14

Interesting thread here discussing pain relief in labour in Feminism / Women's rights if any of you are interested. I find people's views on whether it is acceptable to scream for drugs or not fascinating.

takethatlady · 09/06/2011 17:20

daisy I have had a cold too. I'm afraid of blowing my nose now it's nearly gone because last time I had a cold I pulled out a half-inch-thick foot-long snot string towards the end of it Grin (sorry, waaaaay tmi Blush Grin) ...

Awww congratulations monica :) What lovely news. So glad Ethan is doing so well. I have bought DH a father's day card and written in it, just in case the baby is born in time. I'll give it to him anyway because he's been so fantastic through the pregnancy and he's going to be such a lovely dad that I want to tell him thank you :)

citrusbaby DON'T PUSH THE PLUG OUT!

8rd all my batch cooking stuff is in the fridge ready to go. If only I could make myself actually do it Hmm

In lieu of the city break we both actually want, DH and I are going to do a mini-break at home this weekend. If it's sunny we'll take a picnic down to Grantchester Meadows and if it's not it's a DVD and duvet day on Saturday. Planning lots of massages and things too, and a nice dinner. Might be our last weekend as a twosome :)

curiouselle · 09/06/2011 17:27

Had midwife app this morning baby curious is still back to back after all my careful positioning Angry and only maybe 1/5 engaged so she thinks that I more likely to be late than early - which I didn't want to hear! It is day 2 of maternity leave and I am already going a little crazy! Starting to plan things to fill my days. harumph

can those doing all this batch cooking and making me feel Blush either stop or tell me something easy I can do to feel I am not being a bad mum-to-be!

millie reflexology sounds lovely - I have a pregnancy massage on Monday and am already excited! Grin

sasamaxx · 09/06/2011 18:44

Congratulations Petitech - my due date buddy. Sorry it ended in EMCS. - hope you feel much better really soon.

Oh (((Barbie))) I'm so sorry you're still hanging on Sad - there is just no rhyme or reason is there? It won't be long now for you.

Knackered hope things start moving for you very soon.

moomin hope little florence feels better quickly.

Hope things are looking better for you almightycitrus

Off to have a look at your labout thread Kara - sending good labour vibes your way.

Cool MOSP off to have a read at that - I'm with you on the afterpains, but mine are much better today so hoping they'll be on their merry way soon.

DH pointed out some inaccuracies in my birth story Hmm but they are minor - apparently I got to the labour ward half an hour later than I said, and it wasn't a 'couple' of pushes, but 'several very difficult' pushes. Pedantic???
Baby still has no name although the shortlist is shorter - she kept me awake all night long last night - seemed like windy problems to me - poor thing.

crazychic141187 · 09/06/2011 18:45

Had my midwife appointment this morning and she told me no more news than what she has the past two times i have been. LO head is still 3/5 engaged and she is still measuring at 38cms! She is clearly too comfortable to want to come out. Going to have a sweep next thursday if she hasn't appeared by then (and i really hope she has otherwise there will be serious words with her when she does appear lol).

Going to try some of the tricks tonight to encourage labour (defo not the pinapple thing tho). My mum is still trying to get me to have castor oil but I dont want to coz it sound yucky! lol!

Millie Reflexology sounds great - i want it!

I bought fathers day things for my DP but he can't have them until she comes as one of them is a new daddy photo frame so I want to put a picture of them both in it before I give it to him!

Thinking I'm going to cook some fajitas tonight coz its about as spicy as I can handle (I don't do curry).

Had some women in town today asking me if I had long to wait till the baby comes out - I said she should have been here two days ago which got the response of ooo no wonder you look fed up! Thanks random strangers for making me feel even better NOT!!! Angry.

PerpetualProvocateur · 09/06/2011 18:46

Congratulations petitech and welcome to the world Max!

MOSP and Sasa, thanks so much for sharing your birth stories.

Kara, sorry it's still stop-and-go for you. Hope things really kick off soon.

Barbie, knackered, and anyone else in overdue limbo, I really feel for you. Sending you imminent labour vibes!

Nothing to report here...eight days until my due date and no signs of anything yet. Have a MW appointment tomorrow as they want to keep an eye on my BP weekly.

Back to my RL tea and hypnotherapy CDs...

NoToast · 09/06/2011 18:55

TTL re: nose information, eeeeeeurrrrrrgh. You bad lady, waaay TMI Smile

prisoner that's a great idea putting NICE guideline quotes next to relevant sections of your birth plan, am going to update mine tonight, thanks.

.

BarbieLovesKen · 09/06/2011 19:47

Moog thanks a million, I was also thinking that - that surely statistically I was likely to "go" soon... hmm..

Mother, cannot believe that you went 22 days over (and still had to be induced!!! grr), did you kill someone during that period by any chance. Ooh you've just reminded me about the afterpains - I've heard they are worse with each subsequent baby - I know I didnt have much after dd (number 1) but they were terrible after ds (actually thats just reminded me to get in some solpadeine, cheers Wink). Hope you're recovering well? how did your ds react to wee Percy? am wondering how ds is going to be with new baby but am thinking hes probably too little to pass too much remarks - I can imagine a poke and an exclamation of "baba"!!!! before he gets distracted by a bright light or something.

curiouselle thank you Smile. Sorry to hear baby is still back to back Sad. Enjoy your pregnancy massage - I had one when pregnant with dd and it was really fab.

Prisoner, Im really glad that your appointment went so well. Hopefully this one will shock you and you wont need to think about inducation at all!. Congratulations on reaching your due date and thanks a mill for the information on the NICE guidelines.. sorry to hear about your poo problems (Grin) am sure our resident expert (Jasmine) will be along with some advice soon..

Grin at Nurse dreaming of more people having their babies. Thanks for your sympathy Smile

Joanne glad your dh is well today.

8, thankfully I am getting quite a bit of monitoring - I have to attend either the hospital or the GP once a week now (and have been for the past 4 weeks), thats my last one for definite this this evening though - even though I've said that each time for the past 3 weeks but if Im being induced next Tuesday, well, thats my next appointment at the hospital. I have been told to keep a serious eye out for any reduction in movement though - as obviously the concern at this stage (with being so overdue) is the risk of placental failure. Movements are all plentiful though, thankfully. Thanks for thinking of me Smile. Glad you got on so well with your MW yesterday, how are you feeling about things now - did you sleep any better last night?

Oh Knackered 5 days?? you poor thing - Im sorry you're still waiting too Sad. Great attitude though - and your right - Im going to try do the same and keep reminding myself of the baby at the end of the rainbow. Suppose, just think by this time next week, you will or just almost will have your baby and ill have mine Smile

Daisy sorry to hear you're ill - probably very little (that works) that you can take?

Kara Im watching your thread like a hawk. Am really really hoping things vamp up for you soon. You poor thing, you must be exhausted/ so fed up by now.

Monica sounds like Ethan is absolutely thriving. Blush when exactly is father's day?

lisa woohoo for (almost) being on maternity leave!! (you must be the last to finish up now?)

Aw bless - thank you Supersunny Smile

Almighty so glad that your appointment went well. Sorry to hear about the complications but Thank God this was detected now. Cannot believe baby citrus will be here next Wednesday!!! woo hoo!! (its a bit weird having a date though, isnt it? or is that just me?)

Millie reflexology sounds fabulous and really interesting - cant believe how much she could tell you from your feet!!!. Am tempted to try a session myself. Hmm..

Sasa thank you - hope you both have a better night tonight. Hope you arent too exhausted. Cant wait for this name!!! Smile

Crazy your father's day present sounds lovely. So sorry that you are still waiting too Sad. Dont try castor oil!!! All its going to do is give you a bout of vomiting and diarrohea (sp???) and thats what may bring on contractions. You dont want this on top of labour. Anyway, more importantly, castor oil also encourages the baby to poo in utero - and possibly meconium asperation as a result (like poor prisoner's friend's baby). DS poo'd before he was born and I had to have syntocin (very painful) to speed things up and get him out quick, otherwise I was told I'd have to have an emergency CS. He didnt cry immediately when he was born and there was a paediatrician standing beside me waiting to take him when I was pushing him out. (BTW, I didnt take castor oil). He was fine though, thank God. No castor oil!!!!

BarbieLovesKen · 09/06/2011 20:02

Meant to add (because my post wasnt long enough Grin). Went to the GPs for my appointment this week (instead of the hospital) - its combined care here. Seen locum female doctor - she was lovely, she had 2 of her dc under my consultant - she said there is no way he'll induce me sooner - that I'd be blue in the face trying - that she literally begged him (and she had GA but was managing it well). She told me she understands how miserable I must be, as she was but outlined the reasons why he wants to avoid induction until a time where it is completely necessary.

She also had a feel of baby and said that she can just feel shoulders - the head is so far buried down she just cant feel it. She said she'll be shocked if I make Tuesday and if she was a gambling woman would bet, for definite on this weekend.

Im not really listening to be honest - as I dont want to get my hopes up - after sweep last week consultant said I was very favourable and said it shouldnt be long. He also asked where I'd prefer to go (hospital or GPs) for this weeks appointment and said it didnt really matter - he didnt reckon I'd make another appointment Hmm.

Actually I feel much better after the appointment (although dont quote me on that tomorrow), Im thinking at the very most, I've 4 more days of waiting and Ill be having a baby.

BarbieLovesKen · 09/06/2011 20:05

oh and for anyone whos interested - theres a new mumsnet app out (think only since Tuesday) - way easier to read threads and its free!

crazychic141187 · 09/06/2011 20:12

thanks Barbie for that - defo not going to rush out and buy the castor oil now!

NurseSunshine · 09/06/2011 20:24

That's good news Barbie, let's hope the doctor was right :)

Had my MW app today and baby is 2-3/5 engaged so almost properly engaged. WHOOP! Am making an effort to do a little walking once a day to try and encourage baby down even further. Am so slow though :(
My bump is so itchy now that I think I've been scratching in my sleep and it's got all sore :( Have a GP app tomorrow so am going to ask for something to help as it's really driving me mad.

OP posts:
milliemuffin · 09/06/2011 20:25

Ooh I'm using the app now! If you 'flip' the messages the most recent comes to the top and you can do this really easily...

milliemuffin · 09/06/2011 20:26

Forgot to say great to hear your good news Barbie Smile

milliemuffin · 09/06/2011 20:35

If you change the settings it displays the most recent post at the top. I'm getting a little too excited by this! Barbie look what you've started!! Xx

jasmine51 · 09/06/2011 20:36

prisoner love being the resident 'poo expert'! I not really very good at giving advice I'm afraid but the 2 things that seemed to get things moving for me were drinking more fluid than I ever thought reasonable and then moving around on the ball and on all fours til the LO shifted positions. Hope that helps.

It seems everyone has had some kind of checkup today! Not to be left out, I had a good mtg today with a private MW and DH to try and form a 'cunning plan' to get the birth I want. We're still working on it but shes given me an almost word for word script for communicating with the hosp re the induction issue and how to take back control - am going to be big and brave and try it out tomorrow. She also took a look at my notes and translated a few things for me - there is a worry apparently about cervical tearing because I have previously had a colposcopy and the cervix is scarred (which I thought said scared Smile...lol at the idea of having a scared cervix. Also there was mention of pelvic disproportion...DH thought this was funny because I am not exactly narrow hipped but the disproportion might be front to back...interesting that this is in my notes because noone has mentioned this to me before.

Hey ho - who's going to produce tonight? barbie? prisoner?

KaraStarbuckThrace · 09/06/2011 20:38

Confessions - don't be so hard on those early 3rd trimester peeps, I am sure we were just as moany at that stage Grin

Monica - well done you and Ethan, sounds like he is doing fabulously?

Lisa - What prat you DH was being, I hope you shoved a lettuce where the sun never shines! That'll learn him Grin

Supersunny - hope you enjoyed the baby group :)

Almighty - glad nice doctor reassured you. And yey for bay Citrus on Monday!

Prisoner - stair thing worth a try! Glad your MW was helpful about bringing your induction forward.

8rd - wow you sound super organised, your menus sound lovely!

Millie - yep did okay on the Wii! Glad that the reflexology was useful.

TTL - your weekend sounds lovely, definitely make the most of this time with just you and your DP!

Couriselle - tell your stubborn little one to move!!

Sassamax - aww poor windy baby!

Crazychic - one of my neighbours said to me she hadn't realised I was pregnant (we had taken a parcel in and she came to collect it and just mentioned in passing that I was 2 days overdue). Didn't do much for my self-esteem either!

PP - Hope your BP is okay and things start for you soon!

Barbie - I am not tempted to try castor oil Grin I think Father's Day is on the 19th June? I've also had people say to me "oh yes you'll definitely have the baby by X" so just taking each day as it comes.

Bit worried about the sweep - is it worse or better than the fanny rummage for checking dilation, because I needed G&A to cope with it yesterday, and I won't have that option on Tuesday!

NurseSunshine · 09/06/2011 20:41

Nice one Jasmine Stand up for yourself!
