neenewps · 12/06/2011 11:35

Grrrr just wrote a post and lost it!

In a nutshell I said:

Very short tempered. Can't snap out of it. DH left me in car to do food shopping.

prisoner congrats. Your labour sounded great - could I order one like that please Grin

kara hope you get the sweep and things start moving along.

misshh booo to the false alarm.

8rd I completely sympathise with the headaches having had them earlier in the week. I hope you manage to shift it.

I am really ready for this baby now. Spent this morning stressing about movements again but he is moving and I just feel like at times I am going slightly mad!

neenewps · 12/06/2011 11:36

I am mad.... as that did post Blush

Sorry for the duplication!!!

neenewps · 12/06/2011 11:38

blk hope you are ok. Frustrating for you. Are you managing the waters with a maternity pad?

8rubberduckies · 12/06/2011 11:41

Neenewps my moods are becoming quite famous now, I think friends and family are willing this baby out more than I am now Grin.

Barbie I really do think you are doing the right thing just concentrating on Tuesday and not thinking about any more stressful hospital visits. It will come around a lot quicker, and what is it they say - life (labour) is what happens when you are making other plans (nesting, packing hospital bag and eating cake)? Smile

We are off to the hell that is softplay on a rainy Sunday this afternoon, wish me luck. I will be the one on the corner table in the cafe with the Sunday papers, weeping into a cappucino, watching DP valiantly trying to keep up with DS on the slides.

PerpetualProvocateur · 12/06/2011 12:05

Congratulations prisoner! I am very Envy of your labour. Please share more details when you get the chance!

Right, back to lurking and consuming copious amounts of curry, pineapple, RL tea, walking, having sex...

NurseSunshine · 12/06/2011 12:38

Congratulations Prisoner, sounds like you had a pretty straightforward labour :) Can't wait to hear more details and baby's name

Sorry about the carpal tunnel Joanne :( Not long to go though

Good luck at softplay 8RD

I rebelled and bought some hydrocortisone cream yesterday which made not one bit of difference :( Just want all this to be over now. Was always v sure I didn't want to be induced but am so fed up now I would take it if someone offered me today. And it's not even my due date till thursday.
Am just about to test-inflate my birth pool to check for leaks, hopefully that'll bring something on?!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 12/06/2011 12:42

Well I am determined not to call the MWs until I feel a sudden urge to poo Grin

Will update on my other thread.

8rd - how is the head? It sucks when you can't take much pain relief. Sounds bizarre, but have you any vapour rub or similar? Stick it in the fridge for a bit and then rub it on your forehead, this is lovely. You can buy something call 4head which does the same job but it is about 3 x price! Or you can get those cool pads, I find those helpful when I have a migraine.

Barbie - think you are right, I am so Angry and Sad that you have such unhelpfulness in general from your MWs and hospital, think it is awful :(
Really hope things get going for you very soon but I think you have the right attitude.

Been loving all the pics of the babies, they are all so squishy and gorgeous!
There is no such thing as an ugly baby - all babies are beautiful to me Smile
Although DS used to look like ET when he cried as a newborn Grin

AlmightyCitrus · 12/06/2011 13:06

Congratulations prisoner!

Hope things get moving for barbie and kara though.

PP Now that sounds like my kind of sunday! Unfortunately I daren't do any of it, for fear of setting my waters off. I'm off for a slow shuffle round Tesco shortly. That's all I'm doing today.

One strange benefit of having excessive water, seems to be that it's pushed baby up and off my bladder. I've not got up in the night for a wee for about a week now. I still wake up when I need to turn over, but do feel much more rested for not having to go wandering round the house at 4am!

Joannezipan · 12/06/2011 13:26

Almighty I have lots of water too and managed 8 hours of sleep last night - bliss!

I did hear a very interesting rumour yesterday...apparently if your waters break in John Lewis (and so i suppose Waitrose as well) then they give you loads of vouchers! Seeing as they have the most comfortable glider chair in the world I might just start hanging out there next week :o

8rubberduckies · 12/06/2011 13:39

Kara good tip. The paracetemol seem to have done the trick, but we are off to softplay in a minute, so I'm sure I'll need some of that soothing minty freshness when I get back!

Enjoy your indoor hot-tub Nurse Smile

KaraStarbuckThrace · 12/06/2011 15:37

Damn, Joanne. My nearest John Lewis is about 50 miles away...

Almighty - the constant weeing makes me glad I have an en-suite!

8rd - yep soft play hell does sound guaranteed to set your headache off again...

KaraStarbuckThrace · 12/06/2011 15:38

Going to need a new thread soon.... another anteantal one as it is still early June.

NurseSunshine · 12/06/2011 15:48

Joanne you could always just relax the old pelvic floor and let nature take it's course Grin Or, less disgustingly, chuck a glass of water on the floor and start shouting that your waters have broken. Let's face it, the manager's not going to check are they?!

Kara yup we're gonna need yet another antenatal thread! Too much talking and not enough havng babies, methinks

My pool is up and looks fab! Now if I could just have the chance to use it...

So today I feel like I have my period and have been having a few BHs. The boots parenting club web site assures me though that these are classic symptoms of 'false' labour, so I'm not getting excited. Uncomfortable, but not excited.

At least I have chocolate.

Urgh what a horrible day, the rain has been lashing down on our glass roof all day, still it's good for the garden i suppose. DH is doing sterling work with the hoover at the moment, he is even getting the cobwebs and moving furniture! I have baked some flapjacks and I resisted the call of the chip shop by deciding to make potato wedges instead, hopefully they will be good.

Supersunny I would choose to assume that the person who told you that you might not be able to have a pool was talking crap! I'm sure someone would have mentioned it before if it was going to be a problem. Seems to have been a lot of these going about at the moment, maybe quite a lot of hospitals have been seeing a rise in the number of people requesting the pools and don't have enough. So they are "managing expectations" by excluding people for "medical reasons" Hmm. There also seems to have been a lot of people mumbling about health and safety for MW getting people in and out, but they should all have had safe handling training and be able to use the installed winch systems (glamorous isn't it!). If they make any more of a fuss about it, tell them you will being your own pool...which you are entitled to do BTW and that you expect them to provide you with a room large enough to set it up in and the necessary facilities to fill it! :o

COAAF I think chocolate is the answer to most things - posh salt and vinegar crisps seem to help too!

PrisonerZero · 12/06/2011 18:54

Thank you for all the congratulations Smile

Will try and do my labour story but it will be patchy as I don't really remember some of it!

As you know waters broke with a sudden pop and gush last night, having no pains or anything so was a bit shocked but not panicking. Rang the midwife who said I should come in for a check up, decided to take my labour bag just incase. Felt like I needed a poo so had 2 before I left home Grin

As soon as we walked into the hospital I felt pains but they didn't feel bad enough for me to call them contractions, wern't bad at all as long as I walked whilst I had them. Waited an hour to be seen, and went on the moniter for a check up about 10.45pm, it showed it was having contractions every minute so asked for some gas and air to pre empt the painful bits, I didn't want to panic when it suddenly got to uncomfortable - had gas and air about half 11, and then my memory gets hazy Grin

I can remember feeling pain but copable pains, I was telling myself that it would die down, and didn't let go of the gas and air as there wasn't time between contractions. I remember hearing someone elses baby moniter and it kept me calm oddly enough. I kept thinking to myself "I am so wrecked" lol. The midwife spoke to me a few times and I just kept thinking that I would totally forget what she has said in a few seconds - very trippy.

A room in the birthing centre became free about 1am but it took them a while to explain to me that we were moving and that I needed to put the gas and air down for a minute. Until the gas and air ran out.... as soon as I heard there was more upstairs I managed to move Grin

Don't remember going in a wheel chair up to the birthing room, I remember the midwife asking if I would like the birthing pool, but before she had time to fill it I started feeling pressure (was back on the gas and air) for some reason, although there was a birthing ball, pool, bed etc, I decided to kneel on a chair Hmm and stayed there as I was comfortable. You know that noise you make when you are pushing, well I was making that and the midwife asked me if I was feeling pressure and I said yes, I remember hearing her say that she couldn't see anything and that I was teasing them Grin - I pushed 3 times, as I couldn't help it, and he was born! I had only been in the delivery room 20 minutes.

I was still keeping hold of the gas an air as DP cut the cord and I gave one last push and delivered the placenta. I don't remember it being all that painful but I am sure it will all come back to me!

Breastfed him straight away and gave him cuddles, had a shower and went up to the ward a couple of hours later. After pains are a bitch though. Came home early this afternoon and been lounging around on the sofa, just about to have a nice bath and head up to bed. Have no tears or stitches, midwifes were brilliant and I can't fault my care at all.

He weighs 6lb 14oz and as yet is un named, I still can't quite believe it!

PrisonerZero · 12/06/2011 18:55

PS, The only thing I did differently yesterday was to take some advice off this thread and.... swallow Shock Wink - seems that theory works Blush

8rubberduckies · 12/06/2011 19:21

Great birth story Prisoner, were your other labours as straightforward?

Softplay was a living hell - it was so busy that it was one-in-one-out on the door Shock. Luckily the headache has stayed away though.

I had some contraction-like pains before we left earlier, I had to lean over the kitchen worktop and rock to get rid of the cramp in my belly for each one, about 5 minutes apart over half an hour. Then I went to the loo and felt like she was going to pop out - so maybe they were head-fitting pains? I feel pretty ignorant for a second-timer, but ds was so late that I didn't have a single symptom of impending labour before I was induced apart from tightenings, so sometimes I feel like I'm doing all of this for the first time!

What shall I eat tonight? Feeling totally uninspired and lazy Grin

sasamaxx · 12/06/2011 19:28

Fan birth story prisoner Smile

KaraStarbuckThrace · 12/06/2011 19:50

8rd - yes it could be head fitting pains. I really hope you don't end up with a labour like mine!! Glad the headache didn't reappear.

Joanne - we've been lucky and rain held off until this afternoon so PILs took the boys to the seaside.

Supersunnyday - totally valid concerns, I had similar with DH but because DS was due at Xmas, he was off before he was due.

I have just realised.... today is my due date from my LMP!!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 12/06/2011 20:01

Prisoner - I commented on your other friend. Am Grin at your oral solution, I did that with DS. Couldn't bring myself to do it this time, maybe that is where I went wrong....

knackered76 · 12/06/2011 20:01

Congratulations Prisoner :)

Barbie Eyes on the prize, lady, eyes on the prize Grin You will get there :)

Sorry, I have skipped most of the weekend pages as I was busy having a baby and haven't had the time to catch up properly :)

Baby Dexter was born on friday 10th @4.32am in the car in the hospital car park Shock after less than an hour labour. I will write up my birth story for those who are interested later but Dexter is in special care and we are going back to see him in a few minutes. He's doing much better today but has spent the first 2 days of his life drugged up to the eyeballs and having a machine breath for him but he has just started to have some expressed milk so fingers crossed he'll be back soon. Being that he was 6 days late and I do big babies, a 9lb 2.5oz baby looks even bigger in scbu!

Good luck to those who might be in labour and fingers crossed for those waiting patiently :)

8rubberduckies · 12/06/2011 20:27

Oh Knackered congratulations on the arrival of Dexter, and so sorry to hear he's having problems, how scary for you! Thinking of you and all of your family. You sound like you are coping very well Smile.

Thornykate · 12/06/2011 20:52

Big congratulations to prisoner & knackered & welcome to the world baby prisoner & Dexter Smile

Sending lots of love to Dexter for him to be well & out of scbu soon, hope you are ok knackered x

Prisoner your birth story made me smile sounds like you had my share of gas & air Wink
