OP posts:

jasmine51 · 07/06/2011 21:04

Hmmm. Im seeing a MW friend tomorrow and will try and have a general chat about things because I'm just getting more and more unhappy about the way things are going or not going. DH agrees not to have the induction but tbh he didnt realise it was this Sunday anyway!
ref the sex...its wishful thinking anyway - I'm game but he is too scared...maybe I should try the pineapple...!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 07/06/2011 21:17

Jasmine - I think you are right to stick to your guns and delay things further.
Hope your MW friend can help!

BPrincess, realised I x-posted with you earlier, congrats on your little girl!!

8rd - glad your MW was able to offer a sympathetic ear and I wanted to stress that opting for the elcs is NOT a cheat or an easy way out, you will still be giving birth and what matters is that you and baby are well. Nurse is right your fears and anxieties are valid medical reasons for the ELCS. I hope the birth trauma charity can help.

Not seen any more posts from Barbie, hope she is okay!

Moomin - thanks for the list, great to see. I don't think Stargirl posted her boy's name.

neenewps · 07/06/2011 21:32

Shock Jasmine are you really really going to try the pineapple?? Like properly try it :o

In all seriousness though I don't blame you for refusing early induction if you don't think it's necessary. I think I would be doing the same.

curiouselle · 07/06/2011 21:58

Evening all, just quickly dropping in for some advice. Have been occasionally getting stabbing low fanjo pains, enough to make me take a breath and stop me in my tracks but quickly passes. However just now had it really bad for about 10 minutes and was doubled over, it passed when I sat on my space hopper birthing ball and now just have residual ache. Worried DH a bit and wondered if it was a normal thing or what even it was??

Aside from that please keep me updated on any pineapple experiments! magpie and jasmine I think your DPs should sooo step up to the mark! Grin

knackered76 · 07/06/2011 22:40

Curiouselle Not sure it's normal, well in so far as I haven't had it (not that that means I'm normal Grin) but if you're worried call the hospital. Could be the position of the baby?

PerpetualProvocateur · 07/06/2011 23:51

Hi all, thought I'd post a quick hello as I can't sleep. Have been lurking but not posting as nothing really to report here since I sorted my issues with my MW and got my home birth organised. 38+4 today and have been getting loads of BHs which are increasing in intensity, but no other signs of anything happening yet.

Massive congratulations to Gillz, Sasamaxx, Thorny, MOSP, and BPrincess....I think that's everyone who has popped since I last posted! I hope you are all recovering nicely and enjoying snuggling your LOs.

Kara, I hope things get properly going for you soon. I also hope that Barbie's absence means she is well on her way!

Sending labour vibes to all of those overdue...

AlmightyCitrus · 08/06/2011 00:20

Huge congratulations MOSP, Thorny and BPrincess

Glad you didn't choke to death Kara!

curiouselle I had loads of low stabby fanjo pains when I was pregnant with DS. Not so much this time though, (although I've still got nearly 3 weeks left, so plenty of time) I think it's quite common but double check with the midwife if you're worried.

Got myself another scan tomorrow to double check baby is in the right position (because I'm a bit of a porker, so they can't be 100% sure otherwise).

Stupid car failed it's stupid MOT today just because the stupid window washer thingy isn't working properly, so we've got to get that fixed.

So, will there be any new arrivals to report tomorrow I wonder?!

Merlion · 08/06/2011 03:46

Congratulations BPrincess lovely name.

GV am also still sore one side. Did you have to take ABs for the mastitis? Might be a bit late but LC recommended I take probiotics as well to try to avoid thrush. ABs great at killing the infection but can also kill the good bacteria so balancing that out with the probiotics can help.

8rd hope the charity get back to you and are able to help talk through some of the issues with you. Parental guilt is bad enough it doesn't need to start before birth!

Hoping to hear some more news today.

knackered76 · 08/06/2011 05:35

Been up since 4.30am :( I can't sleep at the moment, am getting increasing worn down and want to throw dh out of the window. In to day 4 over . . . . the wait continues and I've never been very good at waiting!

Hope you all have a lovely day and Barbie and Petitech and doing baby having things :)

KaraStarbuckThrace · 08/06/2011 05:53

Couriselle - I too have had stabby fanjo pains as well, but not as bad as you have described. Sounds normal but do check with your MW anyway as AlmightyCitrus suggested, if you are worried.

Have had the best night's sleep in what seems like absolutely ages, slept from 9pm - 4am, then dozed a bit longer, then got up at 5am as wide awake! Big improvement from my usual 10-11pm - 2-3am!!
Hoping it is a sign...

PP - hope those BHs turn into the real thing soon!

Barbie - thinking of you and hoping that our suspicions are correct and that you have had or are having your baby!!

Knackered - poor you are you able to have a nap during the day?

BarbieLovesKen · 08/06/2011 07:40

Hi all, just s quick one to let you know I'm still here with no baby! Wrote a huge post yesterday (thank you all so much by the way ) before loosing the whole damn thing!! Will catch up properly later - thank you for thinking of me Smile after a quick scan was hoping petitech was having a baby too - am crossing everything... Hope everyone is well

takethatlady · 08/06/2011 08:14

FFS I just lost my whole bleedin' post. I can't remember everything it said, except for massive congratulations to bprincess and the birth of Clarice Elina. It sounds like you're doing brilliantly well and I'm glad that even though your waters broke earlier than you were expecting it all seems to have gone to plan :)

kara oh no! Shock I can't believe the choking episode! So glad you're fine and had a quick-thinking man to hand. My DH has no idea how to do the Heimlich manoeuvre so I'd have been done for I reckon! Sorry the contractions have stopped - hope they're up and running again now ...

Thanks for asking about the mw. I wasn't anxious about the swelling at all I was just wondering if it was normal and my next-door neighbour (GP) said it was not serious swelling and seemed fine, so I wasn't very bothered in the end. The mw (a new one - they've all changed teams and apparently we were all re-assigned) said it wasn't sudden or severe and had no other symptoms, and my blood pressure and urine all absolutely fine, so that's good.

neenewps how's the head?

8rd it sounds like you have a brilliant midwife. I really really don't think you should see an ELCS as 'cheating' though. I totally understand that you don't want to go down that route, but if you do remember it's not 'cheating' at all - you've got to look after yourself mentally as much (even more) than physically and you don't need to put yourself through any unnecessary trauma. That's not cheating, it's good planning Wink Smile. Oops, just seen nurse saying the same thing :)

coaaf yay for the Argos card. Always useful as a utensil, I think. Can double as a spatula or a blunt knife Grin. I hope this means you can get your moses basket now :)

Hope petitech and barbie and any overdue ladies pop soon :)

Quick question - how many of the ladies who had babies before their due date were first-timers? Not sure if this is wishful thinking or fear talking, but I'd like to know!

moomin156 · 08/06/2011 09:21

Morning all........no baby news overnight so far, how disappointing :(
Flo has her consultants appointment today, hope they are really pleased with her progress. Terrible night again, she just doesnt sleep at night.
I swaddled her last night at 3am and she ws much better.......we were told not to swaddle in the hospital, does anyone know why and what the issues are. She actually slept soundly and peacefully in her own cot after the initial shock of being strapped down lol
TTL im a first timer but i dont think i count as being early :)

jasmine51 · 08/06/2011 09:23

Morning ladies, no new arrivals last night?
Anyone got a link to the edd list? I'm with TTL and am interested in when all these LOs appeared in relation to their edds and if first timers or not.

Off to bounce around the swimming pool today, am getting concerned that LO is not engaging when others are reporting this happening quite early. I am 39 wks today. How far in advance should engagement be as a sign of progress? This is my first if it makes a difference.

By the way, update on the induction - MW is on holiday then fully booked for next 2 antenatal clinics (taking me to 43 wks!), consultant 'does not generally respond to individual calls' and delivery suite have no record of an induction booking for me so I guess I'm on my own for the time being anyway. Not sure what to do next, if I fall off the radar, will anyone chase me and how long to I let myself go over before I stick my head above parapet again? Feeling a bit unsupported atm...except by you lot of course x

Right, back to the virus removal fun and games on my laptop...

motherofsnortpigs · 08/06/2011 09:25

Morning all! Congratulations thorny and BP I can't believe that nearly choking didn't send you into labour kara Probably just as well as desperate women would be trying it... Millie a pelvic release involves lying on your side and having your leg lowered off the side of the bed to open up your pelvis. Well, if you're interested, this is my birth story: At 9.15pm on Monday I stood up from the dining table and my waters broke. I phoned the mw and she came straight away as there was a risk that I would produce a baby within minutes. Thankfully I didn't. By the time the mw's arrived I was in the bath and contractions were strong but manageable. I think it took about 2 hours to get to transition and then I had a good cry (very odd). I then spent the next 2 hours pushing. It's all a bit of a blur. I got out the bath and wandered around the house. It was excruciatingly painful (sorry) but the gas and air took the edge off it. We then decided we were getting nowhere and called our emergency childcare with a view to getting an ambulance. Thankfully by the time up friend arrived so had the baby :) He was back to back which explains why it was such hard work. We have called him Percival Ernest George. I have no idea how much he weighed. Something like 7.5 to 8lb? I feel like I've been hit by a bus, but I didn't tear and feeding is going well. All the other snortpigs are in love :)

Merlion · 08/06/2011 09:41

Lovely story mosp and lovely names too.

Jasmine I'd be tempted to make more of a fuss now rather than leave it.

Ttl I'm a second timer so ds born at 38+4 and dd at 38+2 if that makes a difference.

takethatlady · 08/06/2011 09:44

Awwwww mosn glad the snortpigs are all doing well, including the newest one, and that feeding is going well too. Especially glad you got your home birth in the nick of time :) Congratulations :)

Thanks merlion. That means next week is a possibility :)

jasmine I agree with merlion. Get the hump and show them Grin. It isn't right to leave you to go to 43 weeks because one person is on holiday and another doesn't 'generally' answer their phone. I'd take heart in the 'generally' - you've got extenuating circumstances since you're being left to slip through the net, and I'd take full advantage if I were you. (Easier said than done, I know!)

KaraStarbuckThrace · 08/06/2011 09:51

How lovely MOSP - you did amazingly well despite the pain!

TTL - my first was 4 days late.

Jasmine - stats thread I would keep quiet tbh, but am Shock that you are having to wait so long to see a MW!

Barbie - yey you are okay but boo no baby!!

Moomin - I thought swaddling was recommend because it reminds babies of being in the womb Confused so not sure why the hospital are saying not to!

moomin156 · 08/06/2011 10:05

wow MOSP thats amazing well done you and fabulous name :) Can i ask what your other children are called?

moomin156 · 08/06/2011 10:12

i am now doing lots of reading on the internet about swaddling and in generally seems a good thing. i did remove some blankets to prevent overheating and we were given a swaddle blanket with a leg pocket and she could still move her legs. It may have been a one off but will try again tonight and see if it helps again. As for the dummy......she isnt interested, it doesnt provide food Grin

PrisonerZero · 08/06/2011 10:19

Congratulations BPrincess on the birth of Clarice!!

Glad you didn't choke to death Kara - how scary!

MOSP - sounds like you did brilliantly.

Moomin - I was LJG.

Stabbing pains - I had them for about 2 weeks and they were awful, midwife said the baby was lying on a nerve and pressing on my cervix, they used to take my breath away but had hardly any this week so am wondering whether he has moved position as he was 3/5 engaged, maybe he has popped out again as his bum does feel quite high up and I have bad indigestion again.

I am so sick and tired of phone calls and texts - I am not even due until tomorrow! I have stopped answering my landline but that only makes it ring all the more, so annoying to be asked 'any signs?' constantly.

Anyone else having really wierd dreams? Over the last few nights I have dreamt about zombies, my dad - haven't seen him for years, and last night I dreamt I had a little baby and had to leave him at home whilst I ran around trying to find nipple shields, whilst I was out lots of people kept trying to brush his non existant teeth and I was going mad about it Hmm

I can't find the facebook group but would like to join if someone could tell me what I am looking for?

I have the midwife tomorrow and was planning on being assertive about my induction date should I need one, I have known quite a few people being left til 17 days over now and I think its far to long. No idea how exactly to make the midwife listen to me though - do we have any rights when it comes to induction? Our hospital is so busy and stretched as they have closed the maternity ward at our other local one.

Definately going to do my housework today - i've been saying that all week Blush and then doing nothing.

My DC are away this week until Sunday and I am missing them like crazy, I want them home. I spoke to DS1 (9) last night and he helpfully suggested I find a photograph of him and his brother and look at that instead Grin they are having to much of a nice time to worry about me.

News on my friends baby - He is off the machine Grin Smile and being transfered to a more local hospital (they wouldn't take him before as he was to poorly) his mum is able to hold him and they are starting to take out his tubes. Its been a long month for them all but things are starting to look brighter.

curiouselle · 08/06/2011 10:22

Thank You for the reassurance MNetters - I did some googling and it seems the pains could be the head engaging and pressing against nerves, which makes sense really!

moomin I have done some reading about swaddling, there are some threads on here about it, and the only downside seems to be if your LO gets too used to it and can't sleep without it. I think it makes total sense to swaddle - they feel safe and protected - like a hug I suppose! I have even bought swaddling blankets and practised on a teddy Blush you can tell I am a 1st timer.

jasmine it seems bad that no one has sat and gone through it all with you, even just to check you feel comfortable with any non arrangements. Waiting is one thing - but it's better if it feels like a choice rather than being left! hug and a Brew

curiouselle · 08/06/2011 10:26

prisoner sorry cross post - glad you have confirmed my research tho Grin
Glad your friend's baby seems to be improving.

Joannezipan · 08/06/2011 11:14

Congratulations BPrincess and welcome Clarice!

Jasmine I would make a bit of a fuss TBH. When my midwife didn't have an appointment in the week she needed to see me, she came to see me at home. I would ask to speak to her/ the consultant directly and not get fobbed off with evil receptionists. (I know not all receptionists are evil but doctors surgeries do seem to attract them, the one at my doctors was giving medical advice on the phone yesterday while I was waiting and refused to make someone an appointment until they told her what was wrong! :o)

I had my MW appointment yesterday, babbit is still in the right place but only 1-2/5 engaged so she didn't think it was going to kick off soon :( I know I'm not even due yet, but I'm getting fed up now I want my baby! I have finished taking the antibiotics for the cough, but i'm still coughing. It might just be everything clearing out, but i'm not sure how long I should leave it before I go back. What do you think? I have my NCT girls coming over for coffee tomorrow morning, and the house is a tip. I need to get going and do some clearing up, but after my busy day yesterday I'm shattered. Booooo :( I need some encouragement please ladies.
