Yet another thread! Going to need to start moving to post natal soon... Eeep!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

joanne our LO is only 1/5 engaged too (which is an improvement on last week, when she was free floating Grin). If I were you I'd have a chocolate bar or a cup of tea, go for a little sleep, and get your DP to tidy up when he gets home :) If that's not possible, if the weather's nice take your NCT ladies into the garden and keep them out of the house, or meet at a coffee shop! Sometimes you just need a rest and they will definitely understand :) I'll be lingering on this thread with you for weeks to come if you don't suddenly pop. You never know though!

I've got so much work to do, but google, MN, facebook, sleep, and the arrival of our mattresses has put me right off :) Was it neenewps who recommended that custom-made mattress shop? They were amazing! Ordered it on Monday, emailed to say I was quite close to my due date, and it arrived today! £16 including P&P or a brand new moses basket mattress cut to my size :) All good. Got a spring mattress from Kiddicare for the cot bed too, and put all the sheets on it. Nursery taking shape now :)

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 08/06/2011 11:58

Joanne if it helps motivate you, I'm still in bed watching Glee (having caught up on How I Met Your Mother - going for quality here). Your NCT girls will understand a messy house. Theirs are probably just as bad Grin

For some reason, since last night everything I eat tastes foul. All salty and yuck (even choc biscuits). Considering I've turned into a ravonous beast this is NOT good!

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 08/06/2011 12:10

ravenous beast

takethatlady · 08/06/2011 12:16

coaaf I read that the bad taste is an early sign of labour approaching Grin

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 08/06/2011 12:22

Oh

Joannezipan · 08/06/2011 12:32

COAAF I hope you aren't getting a cold! That would suck big style. Hopefully it is a sign of labour instead.

I think I have been brain washed by bingo adverts...it's starting to look like a good idea! I have just eaten a yummy roast chicken and avocado bagel... I'm beginning to feel my strength returning.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 08/06/2011 12:37

Feeling very Envy of your bagel Joanne. Am hungry, but don't want to eat when I know it'll ntaste bad.

By the way. Stay away from the online bingo!!!

Suppose I should get up as D H will be home with DS soon. ... Nah.
(in my defence I was awake half the night)

moomin156 · 08/06/2011 12:43

just returned from Flos consultant opa......all good and really pleased with progress. Grin

takethatlady · 08/06/2011 13:00

Yay moomin congratulations to you and Florence both for doing such a brilliant job :) She is a lucky baby to have a mum and dad who take care of her so well, and she must be a little fighter herself :)

curiouselle · 08/06/2011 13:11

yeah congratulations flo - she's a strong one Smile

I got cramp in my calf at 8 this morning and my leg still hurts - how is that possible! I have just spent £40 in boots - how does that happen, I only went in for a few things Shock

Isn't this waiting malarky weird - you would think in this day of technology and medical wizardry they would be able to tell you when baby would be 'cooked' - this 'it could be any time from now for the next 4 weeks' is strange!

jasmine51 · 08/06/2011 13:17

COAAF and TTL is what you say about the bad taste is true then you have made my day. I have had a week of this, like the rancid fatty taste I had in 1st trimester and its been horrible. My tongue is also a bit swollen...if you tell me thats a reflection of my 'lady bits' swelling or otherwise changing ready for labour then I'll be straight over to your houses to give you a hug.

Still feeling desperately down. Had a good conv with MOSPs mad midwife and shes said some really helpful things. I think my head is gradually making a switch from blindly trusting the medical profession to taking control. Once I can trust myself not to disolve into a wet mess I'll speak to dh about what is going on and how he can run my birth plan for me.

jimper · 08/06/2011 13:18

This thread moves so fast!

Finally just booked DH flight - he joins me on Saturday after 7 weeks apart! So I need lots of STAY BABY JIMPER thoughts til then! :)

KaraStarbuckThrace · 08/06/2011 13:50

Yey Jimper, that is great news!!

Moomin - well done you and Flo, what a trooper she is!

NoToast · 08/06/2011 13:55

Stay baby JIMPER

Was it curioselle who asked about stabbly pains? I'm getting those too.

Nurse Sunshine you have made my year with the knitted booby links. Am very amused and just wondering who i should get one for :)

Jasmine my hospital routinely induces high risk pg at 38 weeks. I really haven't wanted to go down this route so the compromise we came to at my Monday apptmt (38+1) was a growth scan and half an hour CTG monitoring. All was fine with the baby and they were happy for us to wait until next week, when we'll do it all over again and see what's happening. I did have an internal to see if I was ripe enough (hate that term) for a sweep, you have to be a bit dilated for them to get a finger in and I wasn't.

AlmightyCitrus · 08/06/2011 14:53

Ah well, that was a morning!
Scan showed that I have waaaaayyyy more fluid in me than I should. Baby is perfectly normal size for age, so no idea why. Ended up on a monitor for an hour, but everything baby-wise is fine, it's just me and my olympic pool of fluid that no-one can fathom.
First sonographer scared the bloody daylights out of me though and then left us sat back in the waiting room without explaining anything. I was getting a bit sniffly then I got a more senior sonographer who was a bit better. The ancient midwife was much more comforting and brought us coffee while I was being monitored, although to be honest I could of done without all the builders (working outside) peering in at me, through the broken blinds every few minutes!

Apparently there is so much fluid that its unlikely that the head will engage properly (it was head right down on the first scan, but much higher on the second), so as soon as my waters go, I've to go straight to hospital. Baby may not manage to get in the right position.

I've another consultant appointment tomorrow so see what he says.

Ho Hum.

sasamaxx · 08/06/2011 15:03

OK finally got on the computer. Have sleeping baby on me Grin
Still need to catch up but thought I'd add my birth story bfore I forget it myself Wink

So - as you all know, I kept getting strong contrations 10 mins apart which would then disappear and return a day later.

Eventualy, on Sunday night, they returned at 5 mins apart and then started to get closer together. At around 9ish, I called my friend to come over to watch the kids as I was heading to hospital. Was totally convinced that it would all stop again. DH decided on the way that he needed to go to tesco to get a videotape - ok for him - he wasnt the one having contractions every 3 or 4 mins. Anyway, as luck would have it, a car had blown up outside tesco so the police had blocked it off and all the shutters were down so off to the hospital it was. Arrived in Triage at around 10ish and was left for an hour Shock. Just had to make do with my oils and birthing ball until someone came to assess me at 11pm. I was totally expecting to get sent home until she examined me and said that yes I was in labour and was 5cm. Couldn't believe it - so we wandered along to the labour ward and I had 3 contractions on the way. Things were really moving quickly. Finally got a hold of some gas and air at around 11.30 but actually found it quite annoying as i couldn't breathe out hard enough with the gas thing in my mouth so the midwife did some fancy reiki moves for a bit until I felt it was time to stop standing up and climb onto the fancy chair/bed thing. Once on there, things moved very fast and I started using the gas and air while the contractions started coming thick and fast. Then I really REALLY needed to do a number 2 and there was an amusing sequence of disagreement between midwife and me - I knew I needed a number 2 whereas she told me it was the baby's head. She was right because then the really expulsive contractions started, i popped my waters all over her tunic, she put on an apron and then it was baby time. At crowning, she asked me to stop pushing for ages and just concentrate on gas and air while he did some strange things to help birth the baby's head. I honestly have no idea what she was doing but when she asked me to start pushing again, there were only a couple of pushes until the baby was out. It took a couple of minutes for the baby to cry but she was fine. I had the jag for the placenta because I hadn't really made a decision on it anyway and didn't really care any more. While I had a lovely cuddle, I was v pleased to be told that although I had a tear, I didn't need stitches. They did find a cyst though Shock so will need to keep an eye on that. Had a lovely 1 hour feed and some tea and toast before getting showered and cleaned up and heading back to ward.

It was definitely the easiest birth I've had - v v straightforward, and fast when it finally got going. I felt very calm for it and aware and not at all out of control. I had definitely forgotten how hard the pushing bit was - it is really really really hard work, but so very worth it.

Still no name - i am rubbish at decision-making, but had her out in a sling today and she loved it Grin
I so need to catch up on this thread - off to read up on what's been going on. hope you're all doing well ladies!

sasamaxx · 08/06/2011 15:07

Sorry forgot to add that the baby was born at 1.58am and she weighed 7lbs 5oz.

BPrincess · 08/06/2011 16:10

Moomin I too thought swaddling was good, and we've been doing it all the time, and they did it for me in hospital. She loves it and it keeps her calm and from flailing arms/scratching face. Official advice, too, is that it reduces chance of cot death...

Sasa big congrats on your birth - sounds amazing!

Wormshuffler · 08/06/2011 16:12

HI ladies, I have name changed.......used to be broughthimroundtotheidea, anyway, I was on the first 2 Jue in june threads before I MC'd just wanted to wish you all luck, I see some of you have popped already!
I am now PG again, I kept in touch with some of the other people who sadly left the thread in the early days along with me, and all except one we are all PG again. Best of luck girls x

KaraStarbuckThrace · 08/06/2011 16:26

Congrats Wormshuffler! Hope your pgcy progresses smoothly!

Sassamax - wow great story Hmm at you husband's detour and Shock at the car incident!! BTW - With DS, I remember telling DH "I need to do a really big poo!" and that was the head crowning!

Almighty - I think I had a lot of fluid with DS but no-one seem to think it was an issue? Probably coz they didnt realise until after my waters broke...

moomin156 · 08/06/2011 16:30

Congratulations worm i remember you well...........thankyou for updating us. We are definitely starting to pop now....its very exciting.
Sasaglad things are going well.......

Sasa What a brilliant birth story, I love reading them so much. That was definitely an eventful but happy one. You sound so happy. Thanks to everyone who posts theirs.

Hi Super, yep, I am your due date twin but the consultant has decided on an elcs next week, so I'll be a week early. There's a few reasons for it, and we are pretty happy with the logic behind the decision, so getting quite excited. Scared witless of the bit that comes after but everyone on here seems to be managing so incredibly with their babies that it makes it seem really manageable. But with the birth date being brought forward a week, plus me presuming for a late first baby, I am nowhere near ready. Ah well, here she comes anyway!

For the record MOSP, you make motherhood seem so rewarding and fun and messy and absolutely amazing. I almost think I want four kids after I read your posts.

motherofsnortpigs · 08/06/2011 17:25

moomin I'm glad Florence is doing well. I know our children's names aren't to everyone's taste! I could here my MIL practically forcing out 'Percy, how...lovely' Grin The others are called Etholle (et-o-lee), Hephzibah (usually Ibby) and Humphrey (or The Humph - we are the Knightrider generation). jasmine I can't believe you described my mw as mad :)

motherofsnortpigs · 08/06/2011 17:28

X-post jer I do love being a mummy :) I feel very complete with 2 pink and 2 blue.
