Am waiting for the Apprentice to start and am just going to open my copy of 'What to Expect the First Year'. Yep, I'm facing up to the fact that all the strange new things in the house and this big bump mean there will be a baby here soon...

Thornykate · 01/06/2011 20:06

notoast I will definately look that up online re claiming agsinst the neighbours thanks. Dare not say I am glad they are going yet kara just in case I get worse people moving in; did anyone read the thread ages ago about weird neighbours? This estate definitely has a fair shard of them although Lord knows what people say about us behind our backs Grin

It's the post natal pooing I worry about :( I have stocked up on lactulose for the occasion & will dose up asap after birth. Jasmine if you have v hard poos that won't pass use glycerin suppositories as it does sound like there is a plug there which needs shifting. Make sure to drink loads of water if you are on lactulose too. As well as eating poo encouraging foods maybe avoid ref meat or anything rich that takes a lot of effort to digest. Hope that helps but I agree with sasa overflow does mean you need to take action.

moomin sorry you are being literally drained of your energy :( I am no BF expert & it's a long time since I did it so you probably know more than me but is flo feeding on 1 side long enough to get plenty of hindmilk? One of my DS was constantly crying at similar age. Some of this was colic but he was (& still is!) hungry a lot too. Throw comfort sucking into the equation & he was permanently attached to me yet never satisfied. He was better when I made sure he was emptying one side & I also stretched the time between feeds but he was full term & 8lbs so I appreciate that leaving longer between feeds won't apply to flo when you are building her up, I do remember how bloody hard it was at the time though & I hope it settles soon. I too think that lowering expectations is a must at trying times like this, take care x

sasa are you having a sweep off your friend tomorrow? I am having one at my MW appt tomorrow lunchtime although I am seriously not expecting baby until induction on Tuesday. Actually feel ok about being over now that I know I am only 6 days from the end. My body just isn't working the same as with the other 3 & I have lost confidence in it knowing how to start labour. Even yesterday when I had back pain & a good few contractions it just stops. Am used to it now so it's not upsetting me anymore :)

When is your birthday Joanne ?

Re EDDs I shared 1st June originally with barbie according to LMP but 12wk scan moved me to 26 may. I'm going with the scan date.

Good luck with the GBS test 8rd .

Hope gillz is ok :)

petitech · 01/06/2011 20:46

Gosh what a lot of talk about poop, have nothing to report I'm afraid, can only assume you ladies are lot more dextrous (?!) than me and are more flexible in terms of turning around and assessing your work haha!
Not going to moan tooooo much but I feel pants today, horrid heartburn, painful baby movements, general grumpiness, frustration, boredom, fed up of messy house etc etc etc
Grrrrrrr

sasamaxx · 01/06/2011 21:02

Thornykate still haven't decided about sweep but tomorrow is my last chance before she goes on holiday so really need to decide.

Sorry you're feeling rubbish today petitech.
I developed a terrible headache about an hour ago but paracetamol seems to have sorted it - wierd though cos I never get headaches.

I'm really considering a glycerin suppository but have never had a suppository in my life and a bit nervous about what I have to actually do with it.

DH has just gone to chinese take-away to get me nice hot dish - yum!

BPrincess · 01/06/2011 21:11

News flash!

Went for the midwife/possible sweep appointment and it turns out the baby is breach! After initial tears and shock, we were sent for a proper scan to see exactly where she is and what the chances are of turning her around. Well, not good as placenta is anterior, and she's right the other end and would have to turn more than 180 to get head in right place. Bum firmly engaged and had been kidding everyone for ages that it was her head, and that head was bum!

So upshot is I'm booked in for a c-section on Friday. Yikes! To be honest I'm pretty cool with it (secretly relieved?!) though I'm sure I'll be eating my words when I'm moaning about stitches/recovery etc etc later.

In the meantime, if anyone wants to share any positive c-section stories, be my guest!

Sorry for me, me, me post (again!) - I've scanned back and all i can remember are stories of poo!

Gillzz · 01/06/2011 21:27

Hi all ive been sent home after 4 hours as no beds! I've to get induced at 12 tom def! OH is more gutted than me I am just soo tired! OH just took me for an Indian hopefully get things moving! DS is with my mum so will get good sleep as tom will be long day!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 01/06/2011 21:41

Gillzz - grre about no beds! Good luck for tomorrow!

BPrincess - Sad for c-section but Grin you'll have your baby on Friday!! There has been a couple of people who have has elcs so I am sure they have lots of good advice for you!

Squeee little kittens on the Apprentice!!

79monica · 01/06/2011 21:55

Hi all, not read nearly any of the thread for a week and a half because baby Ethan William arrived on 23 May, 3 weeks early, weighing 4lb 4 oz.

I had my routine midwife appt that morning, mentioned the rib and back pain that I had been having and she agreed with me that it was probably just lack of space and a bit of stress, but when she did my urine test and blood pressure the results were really bad and she called an ambulance to take me straight into hospital where I was diagnosed with severe pre eclampsia and HELPP syndrome and within 2 hours had had an emergency C section under general anaesthetic.

We have both been in hospital until this evening because of Ethan's low birth weight and the fact that he needed an incubator initially because he couldn't maintain his own temperature and also because my platelet count was so low and my blood pressure was so high.

A much more sudden and dramatic birth than I was hoping for, but we are both safe and well and back home now.

Will catch up on everyone else's news over the next few days now that I have actually left work (which wasn't supposed to happen until last Friday!)

motherofsnortpigs · 01/06/2011 21:56

O Gillzz that is so annoying. At least you got a dinner out of it. My DH was very very grumpy that I didn't give birth at the weekend because he had to go to work this week. I'll be thinking about you tomorrow.

I had a jolly good clean of our bedroom yesterday. I can't decide whether that is because I didn't want Rabbit sleeping in a dirty room or knowing that most of my post-natal appointments will take place in there. I hope it was because I am really 'nesting'. Anyway, it is nice and sparkly and relaxing. Maybe I'll give birth up there...

moomin Have you had to get up with baby still attached to go to the loo yet? That is my bench-mark of a baby that feeds all the time :) Sorry you are finding it a bind. My boobs are aching with anticipation of feeding another baby. I must get to the library and borrow some trashy novels.

BPrincess Erm, Friday is the day after tomorrow!!! You'll be fine, but do take your post-op recovery seriously. I said it earlier up the thread to someone else (who to my shame I can't remember). Stay in your pyjamas for at least a week afterwards and use the phrase, 'I'm afraid I can't do that, I've just had major abdominal surgery'. My section was an emcs, but it healed very nicely. I did try really hard with the physio exercises. There is this alarming bulge of fluid over the scar for a while afterwards, but that does go. And I was pregnant again within 9 months and had a VBAC 18 months and one day after my major abdominal surgery. That was Snortpig 1 and 2, and they are so lovely now. DD1 will tell people she came out of my sunroof!

joanne I'm glad you got the antibiotics. Sitting about eating is the best thing you can do on ML

sasa Tricky decision wrt the sweep. I'd take it, but then it's worked for me twice.

Had a lovely afternoon with jasmine It involved lots of cake and making little fairies out of garden flowers. I do hope that DS hasn't given you his cold.

Everything has calmed right down here. I am now hoping that Rabbit waits until after my SIL's wedding on 11th. I have booked the hotel for the whole weekend and I just think that a bump (plus 3 snortpigs) will be easier than a newborn (and 3 snortpigs all in the same room). I have a contingency plan if I go into labour in Boscombe, but I don't want to upstage the bride. And I don't want to miss out; the DDs are flower girls and DD1 will need encouraging and supervising as she is really, really shy, but so wants to do it. O what will be, will be, I suppose.

motherofsnortpigs · 01/06/2011 21:58

X-post monica Sounds scary, but glad you are home ok. See above for my post-section recovery advice.

misshoohaa · 01/06/2011 22:19

BPrincess wow what a shock, but sure all will be fine on Friday when you get your little bundle. Where had you been getting your kicks etc as I have a funny feeling my bump my be tricking everyone as I get no kicks up high? All kind of side ways of my belly button....

Congrats Monica, sounds like it was all a bit hectic, hope you are recovering well - fab name - one of my favs for a little blue one.

BPrincess · 01/06/2011 22:28

Monica big congrats to you - scary story but glad you've come through it the other side and all is well. Enjoy your new bundle!

Mother thanks for the advice - I will def take your advice on board and stay in the jimmies for a week!

Miss well, I must say I rarely feel 'kicks' as such. More kind of heaving around right at the top and slightly to one side, which is where we thought bum and back were, but turns out it's head and shoulders and back that had been moving around. then kind of bump, bump, bump from distantly within, if that makes any sense (but I now know placenta is high anterior, which may be muffling things). So glad they discovered her naughty surprise now, rather than at birth!!!

NurseSunshine · 01/06/2011 23:01

Congratulations Monica. So glad you and Ethan are home safe and sound :)

BPrincess Eeek! But how exciting that you'll have your little baby to cuddle on friday

Gillz That must be so frustrating, hope you get some rest tonight. Will be thinking about you at midday tomorrow.

moomin156 · 01/06/2011 23:07

Well after my moan this morning my mom has come to the rescue........we went for a walk and then i went to parents for tea. mom and dad did a lot of distraction, playing, walking up and down and i have had a 2 x 3hr gaps. She went to sleep beautifully and peacefully on her nan and it was such a shame to disturb her to come home....but we are now feeding and the last one was at 19:30. Feel much better, mom has also sent me home with a food parcel for my tea tomorrow....
monica congratulations, sounds a bit traumatic but glad you are home and Ethan is doing well.
BP good luck for Friday, i agree its good news its been discovered now, im sure everything will be fine.

CitizenOscar · 01/06/2011 23:25

Congratulations Monica. Hope you're recovering well.

sasamaxx · 01/06/2011 23:30

Moomin so glad you've had a better day - yay for your mum Grin

Gillz that's so annoying - it does make you wonder about what would happen if there were no beds if you rushed in, in spontaneous labour Hmm

monica how frightening for you - I hope the whole experience hasn't affected you too much - thank goodness you have your baby now and are both OK Smile

Oh no BPrincess what a shock - but then as people have said, now you know when you will have your baby and you have averted a possible surprise breech birth. Smile

Hope your baby stays put for you until the wedding MOSP - I agree that it will be much much easier dealing with 2 nights in a hotel with a bump plus kids than with a newborn plus kids.

sasamaxx · 01/06/2011 23:30

PS I had another run of stronger contractiony-type pains earlier, but they have disappeared again as usual.

moomin156 · 02/06/2011 01:32

Mmmmm so much for the lovely 3hrly gaps this afternoon.....lol

Gillzz · 02/06/2011 05:54

Not slept much at all last night excited and nervous!!

Goodluck louey and bprincess hope we all have stress free births!

sasamaxx Oh said he saw an empty bed so I think they must keep 1 or 2 for emergencies and obviously I'm not one but mw said as I was put back yes I will def be took today and if they need the beds the ladies that are booked in for induction today will be put off till tom! Would be nice if they told us that!

Can't believe will have my little girl within next 2 days! Pregnancy flown buy considering found out at 4+1 weeks although last few weeks been a bit s**t!

Will keep u posted xxxx

LisasCat · 02/06/2011 06:31

Congrats on the new arrivals. Hope everyone else is keeping well.

Just noticed the talk of curries to speed things along. Can I just mention, on behalf of my paediatric doctor friend, that there is no evidence that curries work, and when a woman goes into the delivery suite and tells her midwife or the obs/gynae staff she's been stuffing herself with curries for the past 2 days...well...their hearts sink a little bit!

knackered76 · 02/06/2011 07:03

Monica Congratulations Grin. Sorry it was all a bit manic and rushed for you all and hope you're feeling okay about it. Lovely name, DD was going to be Ethan :) Rest up as much as possible. The only people I know who had c-sections and problems were those who rushed around after a couple of weeks. From what I understand it's a long recovery so keep repeating what MOSP said Grin

BPrincess Your trip to the midwife was almost as eventful as Monicas! How exciting knowing your little one is coming on Friday . . tomorrow!!!!!!

Gillzz Fingers crossed for beds today :) Not that I've been induced but keep moving if you can. When I was in hospital the other week a lady was being induced, in at 9am and didn't see her again (apart from loo trips). I left at 5.30pm. The rest of the time she stayed behind her curtain . ... couldn't help thinking that must have been really boring Grin

On the curry front, apparently the only possible effect it has is getting your bowels moving which may (but probably not) get labour going!

Sasa I'm with you on the crampy pains, been going since 5am but not turning into anything . . . . preparing myself for a day of children, children's friends, mass cooking for them all. Oh well, at least the sun is shining :)

Happy Thursday everyone!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 02/06/2011 07:23

Harmonica - congrats, another boy!! I love the name Ethan! Sorry it was so traumatic, but good to hear you and little Ethan are doing well.

Sassamax - those cramps will turn into the real thing eventually!

Louey & Gillz - good luck today, hopefully you will be snuggling squidgy newborns later today.

Bprincess - yey one day to go, are you all sorted in terms of being ready for baby's arrival?

Knackered & Lisa - yep I can certainly see why the MWs would not be happy with mass consumption of curry!!

Moomin - yey for your parents, they sound lovely :) Is Florence their first grandchild?

MOSP - funnily enough I have had aching boobs, I did try a half hearted attempted to see if I could express some colostrum, but no, need to look at the video again. I remember when we covered hand expression during my peer supporter course, the next week there were quite a few of us who tried it when we went home and we were all comparing notes. Quite a few of us were nursing toddlers so hadn't expressed for months but we were quite impressed at getting a few drops out Grin Hope Rabbit hangs on for the wedding, I am sure your dds will do you proud Smile

Now thinking that I will go overdue grrrrr. Am totally fed up of being huge, ungainly, tired, aching, having cramps and piles.

Just wait in a few weeks time I'll be complaining about lack of sleep, sore nipples, poo explosions and "YOU CAN'T POSSIBLY BE HUNGRY AGAIN!" Grin

motherofsnortpigs · 02/06/2011 08:06

kara I could easily squeeze out a colostrum feed. Cheeky DD2 latched on after my shower the other day and declared the mummy milk very tasty. Yep, I'm a proper fairy heifer, and no mistake :)

sasamaxx · 02/06/2011 08:43

Morning everyone
Today is DH's first day of paternity leave (he has to book it well in advance) so at least I'll now have someone to deal with the kids arguing etc and I can get on with scrutinising every tiny twinge Wink

Good luck Gillz and Louey and anyone else who has a baby today Smile
