Welcome princess!

Woo hoo quempin!!!!!!!!! So pleased for your successful scan. Don't panic, all is good. What does the NT check again, is it downs? Yeah I'm up tomorrow morning. Came home early from work and lay in bed til dinner and just had a bath - calming techniques.

Yeah I am going to work late. Will aim to take the whole year of mat leave and want to spend as much of that time with the babies as poss.

PrincessScrumpy · 21/07/2011 21:51

Thanks for the welcome. We're off to Cornwall with dh and the inlaws - plan being pil take dd out for day trips and dh stays and looks after me. I can do some gentle walks and swimming but that's all I plan to do. Not sure inlaws realise how pg I am after they suggested they thought I was driving. It's only 2 hours but still (I drove 8 hours in france when we all went 2 years ago and dh has a broken hand from football). FIL is now driving as dh is very protective off me and wanted me to get signed off for my last week to make sure I rested as I was very tired and teary. After the week away I think I'll have to call around friends and my mum's offered to have dd for a few days - she's an hour and a half away so can't just do the odd day really.

Originally I wanted to enjoy my last few weeks with dd1 just the two of us but realistically I am going to need help - going to have to be strict with myself.

quempin I've stuck to my normal size mat clothes and dh's favourite shirt (not that I can do it up comfortably). Some clothes are more comfy than others but all seem fine size wise. probably wouldn't get to wear them for another pg as they'll be so stretched but I'm not planning to be pg again so that's fine with me.

Hello all

Another newbie - thanks Raven for pointing me in the direction of this thread! Am 12 weeks + 5 and only found out on Monday that I was having twins. Have a 3yo dd already and it took us a very long time to get our heads around having another one. I then had 2 [very early] mc earlier this year, so it's been a bit of a bumpy road to where I am. Had been resisting getting an early 'put-my-mind-at-rest-after-mcs' scan all through the last 6 weeks or so, but then had a migraine last week (had migraines before both mcs and never had them in my first pg) so freaked out on Monday and persuaded hospital to scan me. Sonographer had a quick look and said in a very matter of fact voice 'Well you're definitely pregnant, and there are 2 of them in there'. Cue state of complete and utter hysteria, which eventually subsided into massive shock. Everything gone into hyper drive since Monday - nuchal brought forward from next week to yesterday (all good, both less than 2mm so am happy) and suddenly midwives are talking about extra scans, consultant led care etc etc etc. Reassured to read this thread (yes, from beginning to end - what else are Friday afternoons at work for?) and see that most people seem to have major shock reaction to the news. Am currently dealing with it by not thinking about it all too much!!

Am very ignorant about multiples - don't know anyone with any - so anticipating a bit of a crash course over the next few weeks. Mine are non-ID (is that the DC abbreviation that people on here use??)... although did note with interest that someone earlier mentioned that non-ID have a 10% chance of being ID. Am convinced that I have a boy and a girl in there though so happy to be non-ID!

Am going to take your advice and not google... don't need things to worry about. Am v envious of the Bugaboo (sorry - forgotten who bought it)... I have a single Bugaboo chameleon which I LOVE and am gutted that I can't use it. Going to try and sell it and then see if any parents fancy helping us afford the double version!!

So anyway, hi to all. Looking forward to getting to know you better over the coming months, fx, touch wood etc etc.

x

thanks Quempin, tis indeed lovely to have found several ladies at similar stage to me.
(what's a chorion???... as I said, am COMPLETELY clueless! Blush)

ravenlocks · 22/07/2011 17:03

Oh. The. Relief.

12 week scan done, 2 babies, 2 heartbeats, fold measurements low risk, both the same size, 4 limbs waving, and both still measuring perfect for their dates. I cried!

Our pics weren't nearly as good as your bunk bed ones MrsS as the babies aren't on the same plane so couldn't get a good 2D pic of them both together but lovely ones of them individually.

tabbycat great you found us, there are a few of us at the same stage and I think we are having the same type of twin (DCDA). It is a shock, we have known for a month and it still hasn't really sunk in. Well we have accepted and are excited about the fact we are having twins but not sure it hass really hit home that this means there will be.two.babies. at once! Similar to you I also had 2 v early m/cs this year (5-6weeks) and I hear that you can be more fertile after a m/c which it appears may have been correct for us to have conceived with 2 sep eggs in once cycle! These are my first two (and only two I expect!).

I'm not in mat clothes yet, hope to hide this bump for as long as possible at work for various reasons.

Enjoy Cornwall princess and Hmm at FIL assuming you will be driving!

Hope everyone else and their bumps and newborns are doing well.

Ironically I feel a bit sick now, at 12+6 after no sickness atall up to now. Think it is 'just all the excitement' as my mother would say.

Happy weekend. xx

ravenlocks · 22/07/2011 17:05

Oh and ladybird you doing ok?

ravenlocks · 22/07/2011 17:54

quempin meant to say sonographer told me they were looking for the NT measurement to be less than 3.5 mm. And that they wouldn't do a blood test so that is it I think. Mine were 1.5 and 1.9 if I remember rightly.

tabbycatt · 22/07/2011 18:01

raven - spookily similar experiences you and me! can i ask whereabouts in the country you are?? just curious!

PeelingmyselfofftheCeiling · 22/07/2011 18:01

Welcome tabby. I remember that shock well!

This info I've copied from the NHS website here on the abbreviations:

"There are three types of twins:
Dichorionic diamniotic (DCDA) twins each have their own separate placenta with its own separate inner membrane (the amnion) and outer membrane (the chorion).
Monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) twins share a single placenta with a single outer membrane and two inner membranes.
Monochorionic monoamniotic (MCMA) twins share both the inner and outer membranes."

Medics will usually say yours are non-ID if they are DCDA - TAMBA (well worth checking out for lots of twin info) will explain that's not strictly speaking true - my understanding is if the egg splits and implants in a certain way you can still have ID twins with DCDA, but it's very rare (the 10% chance mentioned above).

It will say on your notes which you have, if they could see the membranes clearly on your scan.
Hope that helps!

tabbycatt · 22/07/2011 18:01

sorry.. fingers working faster than brain... CONGRATS on scan! all sounds good. it is a massive relief isn't it!!

PeelingmyselfofftheCeiling · 22/07/2011 18:02

Oh and congrats on the good scan Raven, although very Envy at the lack of MS up until 13 weeks!

ravenlocks · 22/07/2011 18:22

Peeling - thanks for that info. Makes a lot more sense now! I'm def dcda

BB3 · 23/07/2011 09:28

Hello raven hi tabby - Envy at no MS til 13 weeks - I had it from 2 right up until 4 months!!

Great news about good scans.

Am feeling a bit full at the moment and seem to live on a diet of rennie!! Babies are both down very low so getting that very painful scrapping movements down there rather than the wobbles and kicks! Starting to feel like I need to get myself more organised (29 weeks) so have ordered nursery wallpaper today and written my hospital bag list (got to actually buy a hospital bag but hey ho!!!).

MrsStevo · 23/07/2011 12:56

Hi all!!

MY BABIES HAVE ARRIVED!!!!!!!!

My darling little twin girls arrived on Wednesday 20th July at 10:25am and 10:29am! First baby out was Madeleine Abigail weighing 4lb 4oz, followed 4 minutes later by Sophia Tara who weighed a tiny 3lb 6oz. They arrived a little earlier than scheduled as they broke their waters at 2:30am. No contractions or anything hideous like that but after the waters went the consultant wanted to deliver them asap so it was an ERCS in the end - but all very calm and wonderful.

Both are just the most perfect little babies in the whole world (biased, I know). They are both in special care due to their birth weight and history of TTTS but they are doing superbly and consultant is very happy with their progress. They had quite a few tubes etc to begin with for drips and stuff but both just have tube feeds now and everything else is out. Madeleine is in a proper cot now but Sophia still in an incubator for now to keep her snug until she podges up a bit! I was discharged yesterday but they have rooms for parents in special care so I've just moved up there to be near my girls.

I can't even begin to describe how proud and extremely in love I am with these perfect little beings. Getting all weepy just typing the words. When I'm home again I'll upload some photos so I can show them off.

Can't catch up with everyone else's news now as I need to get back to my babies.... can't bear to be apart from them. Hope you're all really well x x x

BB3 · 23/07/2011 13:51

CONGRATULATIONS mrsstevo huge, huge hugs to you and your little girls, must be amazing to have them here and quite good weights for them. Beautiful names and can't wait to see pictures! Well done you for getting through everything and getting those girls here safely xxxx well done xxxx

Do they know roughly how long you'll be in for?

You know I've been having a really bad day today feeling sorry for myself and this has just given me a proper slap in the face and made me realise how lucky we all are to have two babies on the way or here already!

Oh I'm all teary too! Well done again!!!!

jesse4ever · 23/07/2011 17:33

HI Ladies

just found u all again.

i am now 35 weeks + 2 days, is it normal not to have an induction date/section date at this stage????

when was u given your date to meet ur babies????

my last scan was at 32 weeks at that point twin 1 was breech and twin 2 transverse, we did have a sneeky one twin 1 was then head down but i think he can move about plenty still. estimated weights were 3.13 and 4.1. does this sound right to you all???

Hi all,

Havent had time to go through all posts since i was last here(will do though) but have had a quick skim through.

Welcome to all the newbiesSmile

Congratulations MrsStevo Grin The girls sound wonderfull. Hope all continues to go well for you and that they home soon xx

Well is been a busy 2 weeks since Elizabeth and Xavier broke up from school but its lovely having them all here.
Cant believe that Nicholas is starting school in sept..... Its going to be soooo quiet in the house with just Jonathan and the twins!!

Christina and Quentin are 7wks alreadyShock where has the time gone?? They are doing well are in a good routine and starting to 'pork' up a bit.

We went for our first family trip out the other day. It would have been Juliet's 5th birthday so we took some flowers and pics up to the cemetery and introduced the twins.
We all managed to fit into the new car(a vw transporter) and the tripple pushchair fits in nicely (its a big beast of a thing!).

What doubles does everyone have/recomend? We were thinking of getting somthing quite lightweight for town/quick trips. It dosent have to be off roady as the tripple is ok at that (and can be used as a double) and they both fit into the Marmet we have used for all the others (it was dhs when he was a baby!). We have loads of different single pushchairs knocking around and could always take 3 singles out with us if we have a combo of me/dh/dd1/ds1/nanny/gps ect but would be handy if there are only 2 'pushers' to make it easyer than lugging the 'beast everywhere!! (which is great of there only 1 'pusher')

Sorry to go on but im not that good at explainig things simply!!!

Congratulations MrsStevo!!!!!!! Beautiful names too.

I'm on cloud 9 with you xxx

tiggersreturn · 23/07/2011 22:43

Congratulations MrsStevo! Glad they're both doing well especially considering everything. Remember to look after yourself recovery wise.

Jesse I've just had my end date booked for 38 weeks (dcda and type 1 diabetic) but I had to push for it. Otherwise they said they'd do it at 34 weeks appointment. I understand that weights start going down a bit from 30 weeks compared with singletons but no idea. It's all a bit of a guess anyway. If you're worried ask at the hospital.

ravenlocks · 24/07/2011 08:46

Congratulations MrsS!!!!!!!!! I am so delighted for you, the twins sound amazing and I adore the names! Sounds like the birth wasn't too bad too. Lots of love to you all, can't wait to see pics and hear more.
