Hello all,

v brief as demanding dd. Her spots have not progressed and loads more in her mouth, so looks like hand, foot and mouth, as chicken pox she'd defintiely have some on her torso by now. Apparantly they can have loads on arms, legs and bottom as she does with hand foot and mouth. I'm gutted, as I was thinking thank goodness she's had the pox before the twins arrive, plus, hand foot and mouth is meant to be much milder. She's so miserable with this though- up every 20 min all night distraught etc etc... How will we cope when she does get chicken pox?! Much sleep deprivation here again...

gone onto last page so can't really remember what everyone else was saying. I'll definitely pack a bag at your stage claire, I'd convince myself with the reverse logic theory- so now it's packed you won't need it for ages!! Did your friend have boy/girl twins too? How perfect! Like you say, if the check-ups have to be delayed for a month or two, it's not like a year, and hopefully it'll be absolutely fine anyway, and no point worrying about something you can't change. That's always a hopeless piecce of advice for me though- I think you're either a worrier or you're not. My mum is so relaxed about things, and just wouldn't worry, whereas I get the worry gene from my dad! I hope it doesn't stop you enjoying Christmas though. Less than 2 weeks?! oh god...!

claireinmodena · 13/12/2011 12:51

Hi carrie it was breast cancer 4 years ago. Had chemo, lumpectomy, radio, the lot. Was pretty bad to start with but responded very well to treatment and by the time I had surgery there was no trace left. In theory I am at high risk of recurrence, but because I also had such a good response, it kind of balances out, so no one knows really what to expect, which may sound horrible, buf after having serious depression last year I havr decided that no one knows what to expect in life anyway, and couldnt live in wait of a recurrence which may not come ( or at least not for many many years). So pants to cancer and I decuded to get pregnant!!! Some people say I am brave, for others is recklessness. Fof me its the only way I can live and be happy Xmas Smile

CarrieInAnotherTWOBabiTWINS · 13/12/2011 14:25

hi guys, wow claire i have so much respect for you, you really have been through the mill, i don't think your recklesss at all, just living your life as best as you can, and not letting things hold you back.

yes i think im a woory/over thinking by nature, but im trying to mellow with age !

GOING TO HAVE A NICE SHOWER in a moment.
or maybe a bath

dreamfeeder · 13/12/2011 14:31

claire, you inspire me to stop thinking any journey over 2 hours is a mammoth expedition with a baby, and to also try and stop over-thinking and over-worrying! I agree with carrie you couldn't have put all your plans on hold forever just in case you cancer came back. Good for you for going for it and having your third (and fourth!) children!!

I'm trying to mellow, I'm not doing very well- got a while yet though, I'm 28, so by 40 I intend to be totally chilled out!!!!

Finally got the baby to sleep, in her cot Shock, we'll see how long for, so on with some wrapping, quick smart

claireinmodena · 13/12/2011 20:33

I hope I am not crushing your hopes carrie and dream, but I am actually a lot more anxious now than with my first pregnancies!! I was very naive chilled out then, and any more would have been classified as child neglect I think!!

I do hope it works the other way round for you both though!

stinkingbishop · 14/12/2011 16:03

Right, twin ladies, question for y'all. With a multiple pregnancy and being, well, not 17 years old, I have obstetrician lead care. I get seen for frequent scans, and then also appts with my consultant. I'm probably in the hospital once every three weeks. I also have a midwife. She cancelled our last appt which I had scheduled for after the scan - a week ago - and is insisting I refix for before Christmas. I have said no, that I'm coming in again the second week of Jan for 28 week scan and the obstetrician and she can see me then.

She is insistent.

Now, I know it's great to have so much attention but I cannot afford this much time away from my desk (with travel, waiting, it always ends up being half a day). I am manic with meetings, the small matter of Christmas and the descent of the families, house move...and I guess my major question is what do midwives actually DO that the scans/obs don't? They're doing all my blood and wee tests, obviously the scans, I got an internal last week because was worried about leaking etc.

I don't want to p*ss her off in case she's there on the day, and I know she'll be useful afterwards...but?

BB3 · 14/12/2011 16:13

stinking can she do a home visit? If not go and see what she does (with my mw visits it was urine, bp, heartbeats and general 'are you well?').

stinkingbishop · 14/12/2011 16:20

Yes, have seen her once before and that's what she did. But if I had all that done twice (by scan, and by obs) the week before, and am feeling fine...is it necessary?

BB3 · 14/12/2011 16:32

I guess not technically but I always liked to go for reassurance - how long would it be between your last appointment and the next one of you didnt go?

dreamfeeder · 14/12/2011 17:40

stinking, I am consultant led care and never see a mw. My appointments are monthly for scan and consultant- bp, urine etc (prob non id twins) til 28 weeks then fortnightly for the same. I don't see why its so urgent- are yours id, or did you have problems in your last pg? My next scan is 29th Dec and I'm so glad its not before Christmas!

BB3 · 14/12/2011 17:46

I'd say if non id you should be ok, id I would go x but then I likes going to 1. Get off work and 2. Hear the hb as I was always a bit paranoid x

xkatyx · 14/12/2011 18:03

Hi everyone,

I thought I would pop by see how everyone is, hope you are all keeping well.

I haven't had a chance to have a good read of all the three just yet.

Little update, just got out of hospital (again) was having pains every 3 minutes apart very painful lots of pressure was convinced this was it ... On examination nothing!!! Nothing at all I couldn't believe it, with other pregnancies I have had natural labour never needed pain relief but this time I was in agony all in my back and my belly was soooo tight!!
Anywhoo they were pick up on monitor so I had to stay in for 2 nights and today they checked again and sod all happening again, so I got told to come home and rest and obviously pains get worse or anything else to go back, they have given me pain killers.

On the happier note, this time next week they will def be here :)
1 week today. I'm actually really looking forward to it, but in day I will more thank likely freak out!

So how is everyone and there babies?

stinkingbishop · 14/12/2011 18:22

dream no, DS was absolutely fine, albeit 17 years ago! The only concern with these had been I had been travelling, on a heap of meds, was smoking and drinking with abandon, only found out at 12 weeks...but all tests have been fine and they even called all the drug companies making the vaccines, altitude meds etc to check.

I do - miaow - think she's a bit flaky and a teensy bit of a box ticker. We've had several phone chats, she knows I'm twins and obs led, she keeps forgetting about the twins eg booking me in for ante natal stuff at 37 weeks when my hospital induces then, her last message was 'it is imperative I see you for continuity of care'...I'm being seen continually!!! Just not by you!!!

Anyhows, like I said, nice I am getting over-cared-for!!!

katy so exciting! hope the pain dies down. Christmas babies, woo!

dreamfeeder · 14/12/2011 18:54

Hi Katy only a week!!! Or less... How exciting, your girls are so nearly here! For me too this twin pregnancy lark bears no resemblance to my first one, which wasn't long ago, but its all so much harder and more worrying! Who looks after your other children while you're admitted? Must take some juggling. Hope you get some rest before they arrive and the pain goes.

I have had embarrassing vomiting at work incidents today- typically in a school looking at toilet access with a disabled 10 year old who cheerfully announced when I joined them in the next-door loo "we all heard you being sick!" Thanks, great... I'm exhausted after two very disturbed nights now with dd's hand foot and mouth. I'm going to look into private chicken pox immunization- I hear rumour I can take dd to Manchester for it, but she's so bad with this 'much milder' hand foot and mouth that the thought of coping with three with chicken pox once twins here freaks me out!! So I'm suffering with resumption of bad morning sickness which always occurs with extreme tiredness I've found. Worried twin one is a little quiet too. Definitely some movement though- in the staff meeting today I could see two people watching them wriggle through my top!! Mostly twin two though I think.

Anyway, need to get on with bathtime for dd. I don't think you need to bend over backwards stinking for her to get her continuity of care- if she had a reason, like you needed blood test etc etc that's different. And i would go and see a mw if i thought they'd do hb but they don't here, say its unreliable with twins, so I don't miss having mw appts at all if i wouldn't get that!!!!

BB3 · 14/12/2011 22:21

Katy yaaaay for one more week (will you be out before Xmas day?) very excited for you!

dream Grin at being caught out by the little kid on the sickness! Hopefully it'll ease soon once dd gets better. Can you get pox vaccines? If so I want it too! I'm dreading it - thought ds had it 3 weeks ago but spots didn't develop enough! But he's reaching age where he won't just leave them alone so I was a bit gutted it wasn't them!

Girls had second jabs yesterday and have been a bit grumpy since!

I seem to have baby girls that weren't informed of proper baby sleep requirements - they do not sleep in the day time! At most they will have a 20 minute nap on car journeys or 10 minute cat naps in their chairs but that's it?!?!!! Surely that's not right?!?!! They sleep ok in night (with regular feeds but settling well) but they should also be sleeping in the day no?!?! Angry

12 weeks and one day old today - crazy!! It's hard work right now but I wouldn't change them for the world xx (although I'll be honest, i would really like some sleep!)

Hope everyone is ok xxxx

ipswichwitch · 14/12/2011 22:25

hello ladies hope you're all keeping well.

Dream, our boys were born 4th oct, and nathan is still doing wonderfully. now weighing in at 8lb 15, more than double his birth weight now, and he's started smiling and doing mini-pushups :)
don't worry, i know you didn't leave us out on purpose! i really appreciate all your kind words and support from you and everyone else on here. it's been a help

dreamfeeder · 14/12/2011 22:35

bb3, yes, you can vaccinate against chicken pox. Standard in USA, Australia and New Zealand so my Dh tells me, and maybe Germany and France too. If i can stop my dd suffering any more horrible illnesses I will! Just need to research where but a friend tells me Manchester for me- I'm north west.

My dd did sleep longer than that in the day, if and only if i walked her in a sling... Why they don't follow the rules I don't know. As she still needs a good hour in the day, I can't imaging how you cope with only catnaps as I can't fit enough jobs to keep on top of housework in in an hour!! Thank goodness they settle well at night. How often do they feed? If one wakes, do you wake the other or let her sleep? Jabs are so horrible, but better than the illness. I'm worrying as dd is 15 months and still not had her mmr due.to the pestilence she's been plagued by... That first, then pox jab.

Reflux is driving me crackers at the minute... Gaviscon is barely cutting it and today, at 21+6, I had my first "oh, you can't have long now?" question, and got a Shock face when i said not much over half way Grin

dreamfeeder · 14/12/2011 22:42

X posts ipswitch, how lovely, smiles and push ups Grin. I hope he listened about babies sleeping in the day (and night time!) too. Next time I'm on a computer not my phone I'll add you!

Speaking of which, we need a twins club 3 soon!!! Running out of space here.

BB3 · 14/12/2011 22:47

ipswitch so glad Nathan is doing well! He's a strong lad pushing up already xxx so nice to hear from you and know how you and Nathan are getting on.

dream - I Don't wake them - they have their 7pm feed then Ayse-Rose who is a snacker all day will go down about 8 and wake at 11.30/12ish then 3-4ish and 6-7ish, Edith-may gives in about 9pm wakes between 1-2 then about 4.30/5ish. Ds wakes at 6. Need to work on Ayse-Rose lasting that bit longer before her first night feed! Wink

Oh I'm going to look into that vaccine!

dreamfeeder · 14/12/2011 22:52

Oh my goodness bb3, busy nights... I think not waking them makes sense though, as if you did, you'd maybe stop them naturally lengthening how long they go between feeds. Plus, if i ever woke dd she never fed properly anyway. But I see why your lack of sleep...

claireinmodena · 15/12/2011 08:32

Hello all

Nice to hear from you ipswich, and katy, how exciting yo be so close!
Wish Zi ws there already if only to be able to leave thd house!
This is my 15th day at home since leaving hospital (except short checkup trip to gyno on the 7th) and am now getting cabin dever...and a hing of depression

Bb3 how do you cope with so litule sleep??? I've never been for waking a sleeping baby up, but I think I will try with the twins, do that thry feed one after the other? Depends on babies though, some will just not be woken, but I might give it s try.
TBH, I did not find chicken pox so terrible... Mine got it at 3 and 2.5 and the worst bit was being stuck in the house for a week or so. Personally I do kot like yo overdose thrm with vaccines, and I stick to the main ones, but that is just the way I feel... (i guess having dd1 at the height of the MMR debate ma have contributed to my ideas, even though I still chose yo have it done). Now I feel truly old...

stinking it does sound like thd m/w app could be a waste of time for you.

stinkingbishop · 15/12/2011 16:00

Put my foot down with MW so she has reluctantly agreed I can see her after the obs early next year. Will be interested to see what she does that he doesn't!

dream LOL re size. Typical comment for me is 'wow, you're big, when are they due?' and then 'blimey, you're going to be MASSIVE!'

Thanks guys ;)

BB3 · 15/12/2011 16:45

We had a breakthrough last night ede woke just once at 3.30 then woke up at 8, Ayse 1.30, and 4! That i can live with!! Shane their brother decided to get up at 2am!!!! 2AM!!! I'm dying on my feet today x and Edie has been asleep all day, hoping she sleeps tonight!

dreamfeeder · 16/12/2011 15:45

Oh, well done your girls bb3! So were you still feeding/ getting edie back to sleep when Ayse woke up? Or I suppose you were up throughout with ds? What a shame about ds- 2am is not the morning!!!!! I can sympathise with your barely- functioning status. I am like that today... DD had a dreadful night- woke 9, 11, 11:30, midnight, when dh gave up and put her in with me to see if she'd go to sleep, and he went to the spare room. I couldn't get her to sleep- with me, in cot, nothing. At 2:45 I gave up, and dumped her in her cot where she kept us both awake til 4am, and then I lost it, having not been to sleep at all, and I was so tired after work... Shouted at her, and cried myself... Not helpful. So I'm feeling knackered and very guilty today. Hoping it's pregnancy hormone/exhaustion related and I won't demonstrate such awful parenting skills when the twins arrive... Blush

claire, the cabin-fever is awful- I'm getting it a bit just being in with DD with her hand foot and mouth. At least you've got your girls and dh who will hopefully come back and regale you with stories of their day. I don't know about chicken pox- if first world countries like germany etc all do it as standard, and I can prevent having 3 very poorly little ones I'm still keen. Need to get her MMR done first though.

dreamfeeder · 16/12/2011 15:47

oh, and to further whinge, really struggling with reflux, and vomiting which seems to go hand-in-hand with being so tired at the minute.

and glad you got the mw to see sense and not add to your stresses stinking
