Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BB3 · 18/07/2011 11:01

I really struggled with prams - I genuinely would prefer not to have to use one but with twins and a two year old I have to face facts that I am going to be heavily dependent on one for a year or so - so I say go with the one you feel most comfortable with whether it's £100 or £1000 as you have to function with it every day!

Re job, I finish in London at the end of next week (during which for 2 days I am off) and then working at home throughout August. Still contemplating taking holiday so I finish a week early but going to see how it goes. Am hoping I just wont have much to do apart from sit at my computer and respond to emails!

I am so excited for you MrsS by the time I finish commuting to London you will have two little babies!!!

Just back from midwife - both babies are now head down, heard two different heartbeats and felt two very definite baby back heads and bumps so all good - now hoping the scan tomorrow will show that the placentas have moved so I can actually try for a VB delivery (albeit with epidural and in theatre just in case!). Bloods done, Anti D in and another appointment in 3 weeks!

MrsStevo · 18/07/2011 12:08

Tinks - WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO for 2 sacs!!! That is fantastic news, really pleased for you!

BB3 - we looked at the donkey as well, it was brand new when we were pram hunting and the women in John Lewis were very excited about it! BUT we ended up with the Baby Jogger City Select as we had to have a long pram rather than side by side to be able to get it in the house. I have to say I LOVE the baby jogger - I've had a good play around with it and it does everything I want it to.

Ladybird - thank you so much for your lovely post. It has been a very emotional and stressful pregnancy, but I have a wonderful DH who has been very supportive and 2 very clever babies that have done all the hard work really. I think it made all the difference that I have been off work since 27 weeks - and had quite a lot of sick leave before that - so have been able to concentrate on looking after them / myself rather than stressing at work. I will happily accept the choccy fudge cake and medal though!

ravenlocks and quempin - GOOD LUCK for your scans this week. It is a super scary and anxious time but if the babies were fine at your last scan there is absolutely no reason why they wouldn't be now. One of you mentioned lack of symptoms as well - I stressed and stressed about that and was in tears WANTING morning sickness at one point!! Aside from some gentle nausea at Christmas / New Year (when I was 5-6 weeks pg) I haven't had any symptoms throughout my entire pregnancy. I FREAKED at about 7 weeks and convinced the midwive to let me have an early scan (I had a mc last year and was convinced it was happening again) and that's when I found out that there were TWO in there - and they were fine. Don't stress about lack of symptoms, some of us are just blessed to get away without them!

Vis a vis NT - as I understand it, they can't do the full 'triangulated' test (ie: nuchal fold, mum's age and bloods in some kind of equation) for DCDA twins but can for MCDA and MCMA. We ummed and arrrd for ages about whether to have it and decided we would - only because we wanted to see the babies again though!! The actual scan took ages as the babies weren't in the right place but the neck fold measurements were fine, I am 26 so age-wise was ok and then the bloods came back about a week later and I got a letter from the hospital saying risk of downs is 1 in 70,000 or something. Having said all this, it sounds like BB3 and ladybirds' hospitals do things a bit differently so I guess it is down to hospital policy again.

My mum and dad popped in yesterday and said that I don't look any bigger than my SIL who is 39wks with a singleton. I think that was supposed to make me feel better about my size but all it has done is make me worry about whether I'm too small for twins at nearly 35 weeks! UGH. The worrying NEVER stops I'm afraid ladies. There is always something else around the corner to get you fretting (or maybe it is just me being super-anxious about every tiny thing!!) Still. 2 weeks today and they'll be here. I can't believe it and I can't WAIT!

Blimey, epic post!! Sorry. Must get on with eating something....

Tinks30 · 18/07/2011 16:08

Hey BB3,
Kings is great but the journey is a bit of a killer. I live all the way in Basildon but I work in South West London so I try and make sure all my appts are on a work day so I can travel from work. But by the time I get home I am whacked!
I looked at the Bugaboo Donkey in a shop in Essex and they quoted me £1400...eeeeek!!!! Shock But I have also been looking at Phil and Teds which are recommended by Twins UK and another one by 'Jane' (?). They seem to be a bit cheaper. The iCandy looks nice but everyone I have spoken to seems to think kids will grown out of them a lot quicker so I'm not convinced its a worthwhile investment just yet.

BB3 · 18/07/2011 16:22

MrsS - take the cake - you're a star! The baby jogger was my only consideration up until the donkey. It's not as practical width wise but we live in a little village so that is counteracted the desire something shorter with the narrow pavements for crossing roads!! What colour did you get? I am excited about the playing!

That might be right as I have DCDA twins which is why it wasn't a valid result! I am also 28 and first pregnancy was fine so I felt more reassured that the odds weren't completely stacked against me.

Maybe your SIL is just carrying more weight in pregnancy hence looking bigger than she should and you are perfectly formed for twins! Grin

BB3 · 18/07/2011 16:26

tinks the lady in JL said the icandy one tends to be replaced between 6-12 months because of size but then some people love it I think it really is personal preference.

My mum saw a Jane in town too and said it was really nice but I struggled to find one in a shop that I could look at and wanted to play with the pram before buying it!

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 18/07/2011 20:19

Hi twin mummies to be, how are you all doing?

My girls are just coming up to 5 months now! Time is flying!

Just wanted to say there are loads of twin support groups on Facebook. My local twin group has just set up a buying/selling page if anyone is after any 2nd bits and pieces. I am going to be selling some of the girls things soon, lots of tiny baby clothes if anyone is interested PM me.

You can find the facebook group by searching for East Surrey Twins Club Buy or Sell.

Good luck ladies!

ravenlocks · 19/07/2011 20:23

MrsS you have made my day saying you weren't sick in tri 1. Now I can maybe start to believe I am lucky rather than 'obv not properly pg'!

Magic8 thanks for popping in and for the tip. Will be looking for as many money saving tips as poss. Twins were not In the financial plan!!

Three more sleeps to scan. Phew.

BB3 · 20/07/2011 05:16

Morning all - has anyone else measured their bump circumference? We did mine as a laugh last night and I got the shock of my life!!!

So I am 28 weeks and my waist is 46 INCHES - 46!!! That's 117cms! Over a metre round - (I'm normally 29ish!). I don't do scales even when I am not pregnant so I am definitely not doing it now!! Grin

Probably nerves quempin, always makes me pee a lot! Good luck for the scan and do let us know how you get on!!

BB3 · 21/07/2011 07:42

quempin I now live for the days when I can wee properly - you know a reasonably long satisfying one rather than the constant tiny ones every 30 minutes! It's so sad what I look forward too or celebrate now!! Grin

BB3 · 21/07/2011 07:44

Oh and good luck for the scan today enjoy your little beans!

Everyone keeps telling me im big but neat - i find that hard to believe at this size!!! My boss thinks i should aim for a full 2m's!!!!

PeelingmyselfofftheCeiling · 21/07/2011 09:24

Ok, you just inspired me to do mine - I'm 22 weeks and 44 inches, eek!

My second attempt at the anomaly scan raised a little issue, where the fluid levels for one baby seemed to be quite a lot less than the other. I spoke to the consultant and she just wants to monitor it, so I'll be going back in another 2 weeks. I'm DCDA - anyone else heard or experienced anything like this? Can't tell how worried to be. Two heart beats, both moving around (lots, not that I can feel it properly!), and the shy one doing his/her customary thing of hiding from the camera - so all otherwise usual for me.

I started another thread about it here but no responses yet.

BB3 · 21/07/2011 10:44

Sorry Peeling I don't know much about it - but don't be tempted to google - hopefully it's just a blip as they both seem to be bopping around like normal! But it's good that they are keeping an eye on you and you get to see your beans again - fingers crossed!!

tiggersreturn · 21/07/2011 13:13

End date is booked! 38 weeks and going no further. Am quite relieved about this, even though despite saying if they haven't turned up of own accord I'll get an ELCS consultant then wrote in notes "ARM if favourable" which I will refuse. No more inductions thank you that's what caused my EMCS.

BB3 · 21/07/2011 14:34

tigger what date is that? how exciting!!

tiggersreturn · 21/07/2011 15:58

2nd week of september and thankfully ds starts school full time the week before so if things do kick off I won't have to worry about what to do with him between 8.45 and 3.30ish.

ravenlocks · 21/07/2011 17:08

Re work, I am going to try to work as long as possible, up to Xmas if I can. But I can imagine Dec and probably Nov I will be pretty homebound and local office bound. Hoping to use annual leave to go down to four days a week from whenever I am feeling really tired. All very unknown in terms of how I will be feeling, how healthy a pg I will have and how immobile I will be, work don't know I am expecting yet.

Ha you made me measure myself! Wish I had done a true 'before' but am now 35 inches round widest part of my belly, definite bump going on. I put the tape at 46 inches and held it around my middle BB3 and my thought was - can't wait to get that size! Although I weighed myself at the gym on Sun and I haven't put on any weight since I was about 6 weeks pg (last time I was at the gym, ha ha!). Unless I am misremembering what I was at 6 weeks, although back then I was a bit Shock that I had put on four pounds since I last weighed myself before Xmas - wonder when that went on?!

Hi peeling, fellow DCDA mum-to-be. Sorry you didn't get a completely worry free scan. It sounds good that they will monitor closely but if the docs don't seem alarmed I am sure there is nothing serious to worry about. Good luck and let us know how the scan goes next time. I wonder if DCDA mums get bigger more generally because there is two of everything with nothing shared?

Tiggers great you have an end date to focus on! Was really interested in the fact you have been booked in for 38 weeks ELCS if nothing happens naturally until then (I know you are also DCDA). Wondering what I will experience where I am - postocde lottery and all that. Actually have first consultant apt booked for 14 weeks at spcialist twins clinic so I think that will be my first opportunity to ask questions of anyone remotely medical.

Quempin, how was it?

BB3 · 21/07/2011 17:17

Yay tigger - My 28 week date is 22(ish) of September so hopefully I wont be long behind you!

raven this size is great for the babies, but NOT for bending down, picking up DS, walking, wearing clothes, surviving the heat... (the list goes on - and no I wouldn't change it for the world but I am looking forward to having a waist in the 30s again some time soon!). Wink

BBx

PrincessScrumpy · 21/07/2011 17:19

Hi,

Can I join please? I'm 31w with ID girls EDD 22/9/2011 but we've been told I'll be having a cs at 37w if they don't come earlier. A week ago I was measuring full term and am really tired but doing well otherwise. Today was my last day of work as I work in a secondary school, but I have a 3-year-old so not much rest for me.

BB3 · 21/07/2011 17:33

Hi Princess - welcome - oh can you get some friends / family to entertain DC1 so you can get some rest! Oooh not long for you now, 6 weeks tops! How exciting!

tiggersreturn · 21/07/2011 18:18

Raven it would have been later but they give me slightly less time because of type 1 diabetes. Given how big I feel at the moment I'm not that upset about having a week or 2 cut off the end. It is a big relief knowing there is an end in sight.

Hi princess. I'm 30+2 with DCDA and feel huge but everyone keeps on saying that I look like I'm only carrying 1. Not how it feels..... I have a 4 year old who breaks up next week and we're moving house soon. Thankfully ds will be on daycamp for the first 2 weeks of summer holidays and we have an aupair starting at the end of the 3rd week. Are you getting any help?
