Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BB3 · 01/09/2011 11:23

peeling I was a similar size to you at that time but in past 4-5 weeks I've only put on an inch or two (am about 51 at 34+2) so I think our girth slows down when babies get to fat making stage!

BB3 · 02/09/2011 09:57

I lied, I'm 52inches - measured myself last night!

Princess thinking of you today (although I am guessing they may have already arrived) either way enjoy the cuddles!

Tigger How is dt1? Any idea when you can get home?

MrsS how is life as a twin mummy going?

I am 34+3 today and struggling between my desire to keep these LOs in for a bit longer so they are bigger and less chance of needed help and just wanting to get the little blighters out! Having lots of pains but no regular contractions just lots of tummy ache, period pains and twinges!! Oh and back ache - note to all - get DH's to do the nursery things like moving small units and hanging curtains - at 34 weeks it leaves you crippled.

BB3 · 02/09/2011 09:58

How is everyone else getting on?

ipswichwitch · 03/09/2011 12:22

doing fine here thanks :)
just got the tape measure out (idle curiosity!) and now have a 44in waist - now 30+3 weeks. feel about ready to pop with one baby firmly lodged in my ribcage!!
finished painting the nursery - DP gets the job now of putting the furniture together, i'll help in a supervisory/tea making capacity :)
got another scan on monday, hoping they behave and keep still for measuring this time, they've been doing mexican waves in there this week!

BB3 · 03/09/2011 15:38

Hey ipswich glad all is going well - well done on the painting and enjoy being a supervisor although I think you should be drinking more tea than making as technically you have done your bit!!.

Smile at difficult babies - At my last two scans the twins have been soooo difficult that the sonographer hasn't been able to get the measurements properly, if at all. And at the last scan she actually said that she hoped she wasn't in for my 36 week one! Grin. She didn't think I'll get to 36 weeks but I don't think these babies are going anywhere - they seem very comfy in there without even a care in the world for how uncomfortable I am!

Good luck at the scan on monday - this week is the first week in what feels like ages that I don't have a single midwife or doctors appointment. Not really sure what I'm going to do with myself. The only thing I have on is a wedding on Friday which is sure to create a joyous moment on Thursday where I try and find something to wear!

Officially on mat leave now - well technically holiday until 14th then mat leave which I am very relieved about as I couldn't keep working, although am wondering what to do with myself. I can't play with DS much as I am in so much pain, same goes for shopping etc. I'd sit and watch DVDs / read all day but DS will not allow it and I don't like him to watch too much TV (although he does watch a fair bit mornings and evenings) and I may just be tipped over the edge if I have to watch his programmes all day Grin. Nursery is done, everything is ready for the babies (bar clothes which I cant get really until I know how big they are!)

Oh it is DS's first afternoon at nursery on Wednesday. I am hoping I don't burst into tears. At the moment I can't wait for him to start as I think it will do him (and his delayed speech) the world of good but I still think it might be hard walking away that first day...

ipswichwitch · 03/09/2011 21:40

cheers bb3, seems weird having a whole week with no appointments doesn't it, i was the same this week and kept checking the diary to be sure cos i was convinced i'd just forgotten one!
glad you're done with work now, and hope you get the chance for some feet-up time. i've been catching up on a lot of tv i've recorded, especially some trashy tv that OH wouldn't be caught dead watching!! only got a few more things to get in and we're pretty sorted for their arrival. we have bought some clothes (couldn't resist!) but got just a few things in different sizes, and the shops did tell me we could take stuff back if it was too small - anything too big we'll keep til it fits, but agree its a bit of a nightmare trying to get clothes for babies when you got no idea how big they'll be, or if they're girls/boys - we're not finding out.
hope your son's first day of nursery goes ok, sure he'll be fine, in fact going from my friends experiences, they all found it harder than their kids did! i would recommend treating yourself to a large piece of cake after dropping him off and put your feet up for a wee while :) let us know how he (and you!) gets on

ravenlocks · 04/09/2011 13:34

Hello everyone!

silver many congrats on the birth of your twins. Lovely names, Sophie and Alice, I know you were hoping to be home early Sept, are you home yet? How are they getting on? What weight have they gotten to?

Dachs if you are still lurking, great news about your BFP, I wish you every success and luck in this pregnancy, if there is anyone on these boards who deserves a break it is you my dear. xx

BB3 You are soo close! Congrats on making it to September and for getting to the stopping work stage, bet that was a relief. You sound really uncomfortable, hope you are coping alright. How is twin 1 doing, started to move about a bit more? Are you being regularly monitored?

Princess Thinking of you lots, you will have your babies by now. Really hope things are well and you are able to pop back soon and fill us in on all the details!!

Tigger how is DT1, picked up in energy? Are you guys all home as yet?

Ipswitch Good luck for the scan on Monday. Re your tip on finishing work by 28 weeks, am a bit worried about what I am going to be like! I am finishing up at 32 (my doc recommended between 32-34 weeks to stop), from 26 weeks I am going down to 4 days. I guess I can only wait and see how I feel and if there is no way I can cope then I think I can bring it all forward without too much hassle - my work have been quite flexible in the past with other mums (fingers crossed!).

Mersy welcome! Glad you found us. Ask away with your questions. I am sure either we are all thinking them too or the more experienced ladies will be more than happy to share their views. It has been a great thread for that! I have no clue about prams etc but next weekend I am going to do my first propoer shopping trip to start the process of narrowing it all down. In some ways maybe it is easier with twins as there are fewer double prams out there - so feels less like there is an infinite choice out there!

xKatyx welcome to you too! I remember you frmo the early days of the January thread when you found out about the twins and had the early hormone level concerns. Totally in awe of you being on number 4+5. These are numbers 1 & 2 for me and I think we might stop there!!

peeling , do you mind me asking how much weight you have put on? I haven't been advised anything on weight gain as yet so been googling (tut tut I know), I am also DCDA. Feel like I am on track weight gain wise - don't want to put on either too little or too much. So far I am 4kg up from pre-preg and am 19weeks.

So over here... 19+1, anomoly scan done with no concerns (thank goodness!). Jury out on sex of twin 2, we were told two boys at 16 week scan, anomoly scan last week they thought twin 2 was a girl but said "don't sue us if it is 2 boys" Confused so definately gender neutral shopping and we will just see what we get. Ages until next scan (9 weeks!) but I'll see if it is clearer by then. Am in mat gear now, have been since 17 weeks exactly when I just couldn't squeeze into most of my regular clothes anymore. Have told work now (at 18 weeks). Planned in my leave dates. Gearing up for a weekend of shopping with my mum next week - plan to do the big superstores and a few independent shops too. Has anyone done a nuresery consultation at John Lewis? Still you find it useful and helpful or a big sell-fest!? And did you have to book? Thought that might be a nice thing to do with my mum in tow.

Question for you. I am getting less and less confident about my midwife - can't be bothered to do anything about it or change etc - just figured I will have to self educate (mumsnet mainly!) and just rely more on my consultant apts than my midwife ones. So, poor lady, I am starting to doubt everything she says. She told me that they don't listen to heartbeats with the doppler with twins. Was really disappointed with that at my 16 weeks apt, luckily I was having a scan that afternoon so it was ok. Is this the same for you all? Worried about how I will know that both babies re ok before my next scan at 28 weeks. As surely hard for me to tell by kicks, bump growth etc whether both babies are ok or just one. Was this the same for everyone else?

PeelingmyselfofftheCeiling · 05/09/2011 10:14

Hey Raven
I don't really know the answer, because my scales at home are woefully in unreliable and they never weigh me at the hospital (I think they did once, established I was roughly 'normal', and never bothered again). I have jumped on them a couple of times in the maternity unit out of my own curiosity, but the numbers are so different to the ones I get at home I now have no idea what the correct answer is! Currently my home scales say I'm about 81kgs, and I think I was around 67 pre-pregnancy, so way, way way more than your 4kg gain.
BUt I'm now 29 weeks and the growth over the past few weeks has been quite extraordinary. I don't really feel 'fat' either. Clearly my bump is enormous, my boobs got bigger in the early days and I think my ribs have suddenly expanded massively as bras are hideously uncomfy again. I think my legs look a bit grim, but they're not 'fat' as such, and my backside isn't too huge. I can still wear my size 12 maternity jeans. I'm sure I'll feel like a whale after giving birth, and I'm not denying myself any chocolate or cake or ice-cream foods.
Would be interested to hear others' stats too?

BB3 · 05/09/2011 12:49

Afternoon all

ipswich thanks - am sure he will be fine! I am unbelievably chilled being off work (she says on day one), but all last week I just wanted them out but now I am just content for them to come when they are ready - think because I am not trying to juggle anything it doesn't feel like all my resentments is focused on my discomfort whilst trying to function normally!

raven I didn't do a nursery consultation with them but I did spend over 2 hours going through different prams with them and they were brilliant - not one bit of pressure really honest and genuinely happy to show you everything. I did it with my mum but be warned they tend to lead you into buying the expensive ones!!!! Or at least my mum does Grin

I have had heartbeats every mw appointment - so I would question it. I would also push you to do something about it - 20 weeks is a long time to go without feeling confident with them.

Peeling I don't do scales - far to scary but but have gone from 29 inch to 52 inch waist, 32 D to 36 EE bra size so definite extreme growth this side.

Jenzopos · 05/09/2011 20:01

Hello all. I've not been on for ages and I can see lots of unfamiliar names! One of my girls is mobile and furniture cruising. I'm worried as my other girl does not move at all...does not seem interested and just cries when toys are out of reach. Anyone else had this (they are 9.5 months old).

silverangel · 06/09/2011 10:31

Hi everyone, havent had a look over here for a while so hope everyone is doing well.

Dachs - HUGE congratualtions if you're still reading this board - really hope this one works out for you, you deserve it.

I'm pleased to say we are finally getting to take our girls home this afternoon after 5 weeks and 1 day in SCBU. We have been very lucky in that they were never unwell, just titchy little and had to get bigger and learn how to feed properly. We're excited and terrified about bringing them home all at the same time!

xx

BB3 · 06/09/2011 11:10

silver that's brilliant news! Congrats and enjoy being home with the girls xxx how is feeding going now?

ipswichwitch · 06/09/2011 16:18

hi silver, glad to gear your good news, and hope you're all doing well .

bb3 - hope the chilled out vibe stays with you, def does you good to have some r and r time, and not be juggling 20 things at once. enjoy!

raven, i've had heartbeats listened to at every mw appointment - they always say beforehand it's hard to tell them apart and may not hear both very easily, but every time they've managed to pick them up crystal clear, and they are possible to tell one from the other. have no idea how much weight i've gained, haven't been weighed by anyone since booking appt.
regarding work, i'd just see how you go and if you find it's getting too much hopefully work is going to be flexible and let you take your leave when you need it, or maybe put in some holiday if that's an option. my job is very much on my feet all day, every day, and it's pretty impossible to take breaks as and when needed, so i started having problems with feet and leg swelling early on. it's much better now i've finished work.

scan monday was fine, they weigh somewhere around 3lb 5oz each at the minute, and they're doing great in there. they've told me i'm anaemic though but since i really can't tolerate iron tablets (seriously aggravate my IBS) they're trying me on a liquid form. if that's not improving my iron levels i'll be admitted for iron injection :(
trying to boost iron intake with diet (thought i was being good with that already) so off to make something suitably beefy for tea, and read the iron contents on everything in the kitchen cupboards!!

xkatyx · 06/09/2011 16:31

Hi everyone,

Wow congratulations to all the new babies about.

Just a question I had my 20 week scan last week and was told all was perfect :0)

Just sorting out all loose forms and saw my scan and 1 twin is 1oz bigger which I was told is fine as they seam to swap and change.

They also gave me a est weight and they were 11ozs and 12ozs
On my app it's Sais babies are bigger at that gestation? I have never had small babies before so this is new. Are twins normally smaller ??

tiggersreturn · 06/09/2011 20:53

Well done Silver. We got home on friday afternoon and have been manic ever since.

BB3 · 07/09/2011 06:27

tigger huge congrats on being home! Enjoy xxx how are you feeling?

ipswitch any luck with the iron levels?

Katy re smaller than singles - I think so. Mine were same size as singles at 12 weeks but by 20 weeks had started to slow down as there's less space so I wouldn't worry. On size differences between them, I can't remember who on here knew about it but I think there is a certain point in which they would worry about twin size differences but yours seem to be perfectly normal (mine are slightly different too) and if the hospital aren't worried, then try not to let yourself (it's very hard as you know, twin pregnancies are a never-ending worry!)

I'm after some advice from those late in pg or who've had the twins? I've got horrendous period pain under my bump that occasionally (but not regularly) strengthens and goes through to my back. Is this normal for 35 weeks +?

xkatyx · 07/09/2011 08:40

Thank you bb3.

Having had 3 pregnancies before I think maybe things might be progressing for you. If they start getting regular give labour ward a call

Xxx

BB3 · 07/09/2011 08:56

Thanks katy -it's just painfully niggling away at the moment but still nothing regular. Have had period pain for a while but definitely feels more tender last night and today. Movement makes it hurt more so was thinking possibly pelvis pain but its not in the right area iyswim. Sure it will come to nothing! Its my very, very much loved grandads birthday today and while I would love these two to share his day I've also got DS at his first day of nursery, one of my best friends weddings on Friday and I'm still only 35+1 so they can stay in a bit longer!!! Wink

xkatyx · 07/09/2011 09:32

Gosh 35 weeks seams like a life time away at the moment.
My little one popped out at 34 weeks which was a nice supprise.

Busy week for you, always when you have ok as the little poppers feel the need to make an arrival.

Hope your pain eases for you

ipswichwitch · 07/09/2011 09:57

hi bb3, am thinking the same as katy, if it gets more regular call the labour ward. thats what i would do, but since these two are my first (and second!) i've got no idea what to expect really! all i know is that when the babies are both lying head down, and hanging low i get a dull ache under the bump and around the hips just from the pressure of where they're lying. hopefully they'll stay in a wee bit longer so you can enjoy the rest of your week :)

katy i've read that average baby weight is around 10.5 - 11oz at 20 weeks, but like bb3 says weight gain can slow a bit after that. mine have been an oz or 2 different most of the way but my thinking is if the hospital isn't worried neither am i. glad your scan was all good.

tolerating the iron syrup ok, but will have to wait til next appt on 19th for bloods to see if its working. guess it explains why i've been so out of breath the last few weeks, was putting it down to getting bigger. doh!

BB3 · 07/09/2011 17:21

Thanks both - as predicted nothing has come of it still there but now getting less strengthening periods.

I have for the past few days had a bit of an upset tummy (sorry for the TMI) so could just be that!

DS seemed to enjoy nursery - if the dragging me inside to see everything when I picked him up is anything to go by!

DiffedAgainDachs · 07/09/2011 18:33

Thanks everyone that was asking about me. I am still lurking occasionally! :)

I had a 6 week scan on Monday and we saw a heartbeat! Yay! :) They also thought there was an ectopic twin, which wasn't so good. But I had another scan yesterday and they think it was just a burst cyst instead. So I'm still worried but not as bad as before yesterday's scan! First appointment with my obstetrician tomorrow so hopefully we'll come up with a good plan to make sure i actually get a baby at the end of this pg

silver and tigger Yay for being home! :) Glad the twins are doing well.

BB3 · 08/09/2011 10:20

Dachs, glad the second scan cleared up a little of your worries. Good luck with the ob - let us know how you get on. Sending good vibes to you and the little bean xx

PrincessScrumpy · 08/09/2011 11:30

Hi, we came home last night.

Heidi Matilda - 5lb 15oz and Kitty Alice - 4lb 6oz were born on Tuesday 30 August at 5.19 and 5.22am. Heidi had problems breathing at first and went straight to SCBU, Kitty stayed with me for first feed but went to SCBU straight after due to her size. Both had some tube and cup feeds but finally got them feeding properly and had them on the ward for 2 more nights before being allowed home.

Mostly it was a good experience appart from one evil midwife. SCBU nurses were lovely.

Just had a mw visit and been scolded for giving them dummies - SCBU actually did this and as a result I have 2 calm babies rather than the screaming terror dd1 was at first so don't really care what she thinks. I'll get rid of them before it affects their speech and they're breast feeding well so I don't get the problem.

CS was fine and I was up after 6 hours as I had to be able to walk to get in a wheel chair to see Heidi in SCBU - I only got a glimpse in theatre.

BB3 · 08/09/2011 12:07

princess huge congrats on your lovely little girls as well done on getting them here and home safe! SmileSmileSmile Do you have any pics? How is DD1? Loving being a big sister?

Am guessing your labour started off naturally in the end? Anyway enough questions huge congratulations again!
