congrats princess, glad you're all home and doing so well :) am hoping to BF our twins and was wondering how you're getting on with it, did they take to it fairly easily after tube n cup feeds? been a bit worried about whether they'll take to it ok if i'm not able to start them BFing immediately.

dachs, glad to hear scan was ok, will be keeping fingers crossed for you all

tiggersreturn · 08/09/2011 15:49

congratulations princess. I hope you all continue to do well.

BB3 · 10/09/2011 11:08

Morning all just popping in to see how everyone is?

ipswichwitch · 11/09/2011 16:07

not too bad thanks, apart from no sleep. got carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic heartburn and twin 2 set up camp in my ribs so i'm v short of breath all the time. DP says i sound like a steam engine all the puffing and panting i'm doing!! still, i guess if this is the worst i'm having to put up with i've got nowt to moan about really. just jealous of the cat who is nicely curled up asleep next to me, and i know i can't do the same as we're expecting a house full of relatives soon. bah humbug!!!

ravenlocks · 12/09/2011 10:42

Morning! All gone a bit quiet. Where are my fellow second trimester-ers??

Congrats princess! Woo hoo!!!

Also congrats to tiger and silver for getting home with your little twins. Hope you are coping well. How is it all going??

xKatyx I am not sure on the growth thing either. Wasn't sure whether most twins are small because they are born prem or whether they grew slower and smaller. Must say not much clearer after asking about that today at my clinic. I know my babies were about average on the growth chart for a singeton at 18 weeks. Next growth scan isn't for ages but will be intrigued as to whether they keep that growth trajectory up or slow down. Not sure I could cope with 2 10lb-ers at term!!

Cheers for the advice re the doppler thing. Had my 20 week apt this morning and heard 2 little hear beats. Also started to feel proper kicks yesterday, rather than the brief and slight shifting sensations I had been having for about a week. DH even felt them as they can be felt and seen externally now. Had my John Lewis nursery advice consultation yesterday and my head is still spinning! Must say I am favouring the Bugaboo Donkey at this point, must take DH to see it and measure up our gate and doorways and also check the boot space as it is quite big.

tabbycatt · 12/09/2011 12:00

hello

Am still here raven, been lurking for a while as very little to report! Anomaly scan not till next week but fairly sure everything is reasonably ok in there as feeling lots of movement. On the downside am shattered, constantly headachey, have horrendous heartburn (which i didn't get til 30 weeks with DD1 and even then not this bad)... anyone ever heard of heartburn being a side effect of iron tablets??? Just a theory on my part... )) and an HUGE. Seriously HUGE.

More positively, my work has a fab policy about taking 50% of accrued leave in advance of mat leave, so I am on leave from 5 weeks today (25 weeks) even though don't actually start mat leave until 32 weeks. have a horrid commute so coming in to work is really wearing me down (aren't I a happy bunny today!) so am counting the days. And working from home, alot!

Haven't started thinking about all the stuff we need to get - still have most of DDs stuff but obviously need it all in duplicate now! Fortunately my sister and SIL have both offered me a whole range of things on loan and my lovely NCT friend has offered me her Out and About and any boys clothes I may need. So fingers crossed won't have to fork out too much this time round!!!

Raven - I have the Bugaboo Chameleon from DD1 and I loved it. really really loved it. Gutted I can't use it this time around. Bugaboo is beautifully engineered IMO so I would be tempted if I didn't have a free option. Did think it was a little bulky for getting into cars though when I had a brief look at it. definitely worth checking that - would be a pain to have to take the wheels off etc each time (even though they are easy to get on and off). Shout if you want advice on any of the other bits and pieces - sure there are plenty of second + timers on here who have definite views on what is worth getting/a complete waste of time!

Is it bedtime yet?

Hope everyone else is feeling a bit better than I am today!!!

tiggersreturn · 12/09/2011 12:38

dt2 decided to try giving me a nervous breakdown on thursday night by turning blue in the face and stopping breathing while feeding. He recovered quite quickly but we spent the next 2 nights in hospital getting him checked out. They think it's reflux (although first consultant thought it might be a one off). Either way an absolutely awful experience I wouldn't wish on anyone.

BB3 · 12/09/2011 15:35

Oh tigger - poor you and poor dt2, has he been a bit more settled since coming home - how bloody scary for you. Hope you are getting over it.

Tabby heartburn and headaches seem to be part of twin pregnancy - I am not having iron tablets but I am suffering from both.

raven Yay for heartbeats and kicks. I have the bugaboo donkey and I LOVE it!! The frame itself condenses down to the size of a single one (so you can use the buggy for a singleton post twins if you want to), so the only thing that is really bulky is the pram tops which seem to be quite bulky on any pram option. The hardest thing for me was choosing the colours for the top so I went for three different options so I could mix and match the three (red, cream and black!!). It is very light weight and apparently (though I haven't tried it), it can go through all conventional doorways.

Ipswich ouch for all the pregnancy side effects - hope you cope with the house full. I have started to sneak off whenever I get the chance just for a few minutes peace!.

Had my scan appointment this morning (36 weeks although today I am 35+6) and am booked in for a c-section two weeks today. So will be 37+6 which feels like an age away but on the positive side, if they do stay in, it is VERY unlikely that they will need any help. Although that's not to say they wont come before then... Before I went in, I was adamant that if they said I had to wait any when past 37 weeks I would throw a flid but actually was ok with it. Two weeks and counting... Although have to admit that I have been on the trampoline with DS a bit this afternoon just to see if I can get things moving a little bit Wink.

ipswichwitch · 12/09/2011 16:59

Grin at bb3 on trampoline!! 2 weeks to go, god its all very exciting.
tabby i agree with bb3, heartburn seems to def be a part of twin pregnancy unfortunately. i had it long before they stuck me on iron. i found drinking soda water helps me a bit, esp when it wakes me up in the night. that and gaviscon
tigger hope dt2 is doing well

BB3 · 13/09/2011 07:40

Trampoline didn't work, still full of babies Grin. I'm 36 weeks today and getting a little impatient. 13 days to go....

tabbycatt · 13/09/2011 09:46

BB3 - Trampoline?!?!?!? How funny! Exciting that you have a date to work to now though. And they should definitely be well cooked by then which should make the early days a lot easier.

Thanks for thoughts re heartburn - am well stocked up on Gaviscon, and will give Soda water a try. Have now got pelvic pain to throw into the mix too... again had that at 30+ weeks with DD1, but have the delights of it at 20 weeks this time. Guess there is just a lot less room in there than there was with a singleton.

Ho hum. Only 18 weeks to go... (BB3 does that make you feel any better about 13 days?!)

BB3 · 13/09/2011 15:12

Tabbycat yes and no! Yes because I wouldn't relive the past 18 weeks if I had the choice but no because as hard is it to explain, every day at this point feels like a week (especially when you are as impatient as me!!!)

milk helps my heartburn and rennie (I can't take gaviscon as it makes me gag).

I'd get pelvic pain checked out with your mw too - I get it a lot now but then am guessing it's the size of the babies and me hoiking my big ol' belly around (has been bad for about 6 weeks ish) but you definitely don't want it to get worse for the rest of your pregnancy as that's a long time to go through all the pain!

tabbycatt · 13/09/2011 15:49

thanks BB3. not seeing mw for 8 weeks(!)... seeing consultant in 5 so will ask them about the pelvic pain if it hasn't eased. am surprised at how bad it is this early...

xkatyx · 13/09/2011 16:55

Hi everyone,

Heartburn here also it's awful!!!

Had a consultant app yesterday and was told defenetly a c-section I nearly cried because I'm so scared, I'm so silly because I know I have to have one but still had heart set on natural.

Boo hoo

PeelingmyselfofftheCeiling · 13/09/2011 17:38

YEp, another heartburn and pelvic ache sufferer here (30 weeks). Classic SPD as far as I can tell. Midwife told me that nothing they offer really works, so I'm going with chiropractor appointments which do seem to ease it abit. Heartbun went away for about a week but is now back with a vengenance, ouch.

Katy - why did they insist on a section for you if you don't mind me asking?

xkatyx · 13/09/2011 19:35

Because there identical?? Apparently it's guidelines???

;( not what I want but safety of babies will come first.

Oh god pelvic pain is evil I can barely walk at the moment and rolling in bed is pure hell

BB3 · 13/09/2011 19:57

I didn't know identical twins had to be c-sec! I'm off to google!

BB3 · 13/09/2011 20:09

Ok I've googled and I can't find anywhere that says they need to be. In fact it's split about 2/3 are c sec and 1/3 vbac in both USA and UK. Is it your hospital policy xkatyx? there is a strong chance you would end up having one anyway (even if you tried vbac) but I can't see anywhere that says it's compulsory with ID twins - anyway as you say their health is the most important thing. And just think no hoovering or ironing for us while we recover GrinGrin

BB3 · 13/09/2011 20:10

Oh and I'm with you on turning in bed - actually almost brings me to tears!!!

xkatyx · 14/09/2011 08:16

Oh awful night of pain Ahhhhh pelvic pain is horrible!

I think it may be the hospital policy, I'm not sure .. :( but he said I could go for normal delivery but twin 2 would be at risk.
I suppose when you are faced with that it's scarey.

I'm scared of a c-section buy it seams most on Here have one you will have to let me know what it's like

BB3 · 14/09/2011 09:29

Morning all

katy I think once we have our babies in our arms, we pretty much won't care how they got here. The only thing worrying me is how I can be with DS while recovering but I am hoping that will just work itself out!

Anywho, sure there will be enough of us going through it as you say to put your mind at rest.

DS is at nursery today (3rd day) last time was a bit of a disaster so hoping he is better today!

xkatyx · 14/09/2011 09:44

Aw poor ds, I used to work in a nursery and the kids did used to put on a nice show for the parents and were perfectly fine once they had gone. Soon enough he will be running in.

I'm worried about infection etc and also being in hospital trying to care for 2 babies whist recovering.

PrincessScrumpy · 14/09/2011 15:44

My consultant advised cs for id twins but said he'd suppoert me if I wanted vb. In the end the decision was removed as both were breech. I was due to have them at 37w +1 but they decided to arrive before the school-year cut off on 30 Aug so at 36w +5 days.

Kitty bf straight away (did it herself during skin to skin time even though she was only 4lb 6oz - clearly she wanted to catch up), but then had a very sleepy day so had to have a cup then tube, then back to cup when her sister pulled the tube out! Heidi was rushed to SCBU with respiritory distressed after birth and put on a drip so her feed was a lot later (sadly I don't even remember it :-() but, she also had cup and tube feeds turing her time in SCBU. At each feed I would bf (as much as I could) and they would get topped up via the tube or cup. Now at 2 weeks old, they are ebf and I am pumping once a day to help increase supply.

Kitty is now above birth weight but Heidi isn't so we have to get her weighed on Saturday at the mw drop in centre. If she's not going up enough I may introduce a bottle for one feed a day, but I will see how it goes.

PS. Katy my cs was so much nicer than the vb I had with dd1 - I had it 2 weeks ago and feel fantastic. Tiny bit tender if I poke my tummy. ;-)

ipswichwitch · 14/09/2011 17:26

i'm having ID twins, and my hopsital says we'll go for vb unless there's a specific reason to warrant cs. so far vb is still on the cards (twins in good position, no placenta blocking the exit etc), but i do know different hospitals have very different guidelines. i'm with bb3 on this one, frankly once they are out safe n sound i'm not goin to be too bothered how they did it, but i do understand your concerns katy. oddly enough i'm not so worried about the prospect of cs, more the whole am i gonna remember which baby is which thing Confused
princess glad kitty is doing so well, and hoping heidi is catching up. good to hear you're doing well too.
quite glad i've not had any of the pelvic pain (yet!), it sounds horrendous. could have quite cheerfully cut my hands off last night for the carpal tunnel syndrome. cant even get the lid off my bottle of pop. gah!!

xkatyx · 14/09/2011 17:40

Congratulations princess scrummy, I love your girls names.

I am a bit concerned of the after bit also, are u left to look after 2 babies I know our maternity ward is always busy I can't imagine them being much help.

I think it is great you both got a option I have just been told and given scarey stories of what can happen.
