BB3 - mine are in breech positions and I've been told they're worried about cord prolapse due to their positions, and also dd1's fast birth of 2hrs 5mins. I've been told to go in ASAP if it all starts, but then I'm getting paranoid about the tiniest twinge.

I thought I wanted a tandem due to width but I really don't like how squashed the one is in the back and only one can face me etc. I much prefer them sitting next to each other. Also, we live in the country so need something that can handle fields occasionally. Plus, the tandems we tried were far harder to steer. Hope to choose on Saturday and the shop has both the mountain buggy duet and Nipper in stock that we would be able to take with us on Saturday.

I refused to have the pram in the house when pg with dd1 as it's bad luck - we already have 2 single buggies and one double that is going to be kept at my parents' house so seems a bit pointless to worry. Grin

PrincessScrumpy · 16/08/2011 16:56

BB3 I was given an option of cs or vb (before babies made the decision with their positions) but was told there is a high chance with ID twins on vb for twin 1 and CS for twin 2 - I decided to keep my stitches to one place! At least you can plan for it. We've explained to dd1 (3.5) and I have lots of support so hopefully will recover well - being optimistic.

BB3 · 16/08/2011 18:47

Hey ladies thanks - am feeling better about it now I've got my head round it and despite my own disappointment these babies have their own ideas on what they want! I'll have to accept it!!!

raven with DS I worked until 39 plus 4 finished on Friday he was due on the Monday and worked in London up until that time. With these two I finish 34+3 and I thought that was early. I've also been working at home since 30 weeks and it's now becoming really tough. In hindsight i would finish any when around the 32-33 week mark as it's a struggle. I went to London last week and it almost killed me doing a full day there!

princess I think it's that twinge thing that's stressing me out - the what if! And emergency situation of it all. let's hope we get to our cs dates nice and calmly now!!!

The placenta had actually wedged in my cervix (basically engaged as the babies was would) by around 4cms (well at least thats how I explain it) so if labour starts it poses a risk to baby one x

BB3 · 16/08/2011 18:50

raven yay for boys! DS is hard work but also brilliant in so many ways that if it want for our inability to choose names i would be happy with two more of them!! Still you could always try for a pink one next time Wink

How come you dont know if they're identical? Sorry if I've missed that conversation! Blush

Cerubina · 16/08/2011 19:34

Hi ladies

I'm sorry to bring some very horrible news to the thread. I heard today that Magic8ballhastheanswers, whom I had become friendly with in real life, and who used to post on the twins club threads as well as numerous other threads around the site, died yesterday at home. She had identical twin girls who are almost 6 months old, and a 4 year old daughter. I don't know any details about what happened, but as I am aware she had a pre-existing heart condition I believe this may have been the cause. It was very sudden and must be a terrible shock to her husband and family. She was a lovely person and utterly devoted to her girls. RIP Magic.

BB3 · 16/08/2011 20:37

cerubina thank you so much for letting us know. While I didn't know her on this thread I can't even imagine what her family are going through at this moment. What a devastating loss. Hope you are ok and please know she is in our thoughts xx

ravenlocks · 16/08/2011 20:52

Oh my God what terrible news. So sorry for the loss of your RL friend and to her family - such a very young family to be dealing with this. I didn't 'meet' her on Mumsnet but see her name on our list which we were updating only yesterday. So sad. X

tiggersreturn · 16/08/2011 21:21

That's awful. I knew magic from the mc thread and she was a lovely supportive poster.

PrincessScrumpy · 16/08/2011 21:54

Terrible news. Really not much anyone can say. Thoughts are with the family and friends x

ravenlocks · 17/08/2011 08:37

Thanks guys!

BB3, tiggers is the best at explaining it but as I am DCDA (2 placentas) these could be:

  1. Non I.D twins, separate eggs, fertalised separately (90 % likelihood)
  2. I.D where the egg split very quickly, such that each 'half' forms its own placenta (10% likelihood)

Only way to know for sure b4 babies are born is if on finding out the sex they are different - then def non I.D. If they are the same sex then we won't know til they are born.

silverangel · 17/08/2011 08:41

Oh that is terrible news, I also remember her from the mc boards.

On a more positive note, I haven't been on here for a while as my girls decided to put in appearance rather early and were delivered via emcs on the 1st August at 31+3. Sophie and Alice are in SCBU but doing well.

Long strory short, I had a placental abruption that triggered labour. Had to get transferred in an ambulance, blue lights, from Farnborough to Ashford as Farnborough doesn't take under 32 weekers. The section was actually a good experience, even though it was emergency the staff were fantastic and I was still able to have spinal so DH was there. As the girls were so early they were taken straight to NICU, Alice had to be on a respirator for a couple of hours and they were both on cpap for 24 hours but after that needed no help with breathing. They were transferred back to Farnborough on the Friday and are doing well, they just need to get bigger! Hopefully we will have them home in beginning-mid September. I lost 3l of blood and had to have transfusions and am still aneamic which is making me tired but have recovered amazingly well from the section and feel absolutely fine two weeks on.

The girls were 3lb3 and 3lb5, had dropped some weight post birth but are now putting it back on.

Hope everyone else is doing well! Xx

BB3 · 17/08/2011 10:15

raven I did not know that - so is there a chance if mine are the same sex they could be identical even thought they are separated by the septum (I think that's what it is called!!!)

Silver HELLO lovely - wow you're girls definitely did put in a dramatic appearance (with all the flashing lights) but I am so glad they are doing better and that despite the early appearance it was a nice enough birth. Well done on getting those girls here safely and fingers crossed they podge up nicely and you get to go home in a couple of weeks. Lovely names - do you have any pics? Have you managed to have any cuddles?

Also did the placenta abruption start of your contractions immediately (sorry it's my new obsessive topic!) or did you have any warning pains before hand?

BB3 · 17/08/2011 10:16

many cuddles, not any cuddles!

PrincessScrumpy · 17/08/2011 21:10

Congrats SilverAngel. So glad the girls are doing well. Their weights sound good for their age - bet they soon pile it on. xx

PrincessScrumpy · 17/08/2011 21:12

silverangel were you taken to the William Harvey? That's where my twin and I were born 29 years ago - the special care was fab even then (although mum didn't know she was having twins until my sister's feet emerged rather than her placenta!).

DeterminedToStayDiffedDachs · 20/08/2011 10:55

Hello. Just popping in to say congrats to silver

Hi to any of you that remember me. Just to update you, 'tis v early days but i got a BFP a couple of days ago and am desperately hoping that it works out better this time. :)

MrsStevo · 20/08/2011 18:00

dachs - SO lovely to see you on here. You must have had a horribly difficult few months but I am SO, SO pleased to hear you've had a BFP. I have everything crossed that things work out better for you this time.

DeterminedToStayDiffedDachs · 20/08/2011 18:10

Thanks mrsstevo And congrats on your twins :)

Three months tomorrow since we lost Alexander and Felicia - it seems a little disloyal being pg again, but I hope that wherever they are, the twins know that we love them and it broke our hearts to lose them.

BB3 · 21/08/2011 11:08

Hi Dachs - so nice to hear from you again and huge congratulations on the BFP. Have everything crossed for you.

I think it's natural to feel that way about the new BFP but I personally believe Alexander and Felicia know exactly how much they were loved and will be nothing but pleased for you and your news.

Keep in touch - and let us know how it goes xx

BB3 · 22/08/2011 10:22

Morning ladies

How is everyone today?

Hope you're all enjoying the sunshine while it lasts.

We've had a bit of a frustrating weekend in the BB household. Twin one decided to sleep all of Friday (whilst twin two had a salsa party) and as that one is the one with the dodgy placenta I panicked a bit and went in for a ctg friday afternoon. All fine baby heartbeats both strong and had a scan and saw some small movements from twin one (shoulder twitches etc) but the doctor wanted me in again Saturday for another ctg. Went to that, and then twin two wouldn't trace (although I could feel it again having a party!) twin one is still very quiet and i have to go in and see my registrar Tuesday to work out why I can't feel that twin as much (have a couple of movements each day but not the ten they say or the 50 of twin 2!).

This morning I'm mostly suffering from period pain and lack of sleep after toddler tears and toilet trips all through the night But hoping work will be very calm this week and I can just sit and deal with the odd email as it comes in. Only 9 more working days to get through!!!

PrincessScrumpy · 22/08/2011 10:39

I'm probably the only one with this fear - my twins will be huge, giant babies. I presumed they would be prem as there's such a high chance with ID twins and I know I should be grateful that I'm at 35w +4 with cs booked for 37w+1. My scan on Thursday showed that both babies had grown 1lb in 2 weeks. If they keep it up they will be well over 6lbs when born. dd1 was 6lb 14oz at full term so I'm really surprised and concerned by how much more I can take. I can barely walk but with a 3.5yo I can't just sleep all day like I want to.

I am delighted they are healthy, just wish I was! Smile

BB3 · 22/08/2011 12:12

PrincessScrumpy this will not help but at least you only have 11 days left so while it might be really horrible, you are almost there... And wow you have made two of the strongest little twins possible- 6lb is a great weight!

Could you get some help in for the last few week or so? Maybe your parents could come and stay or a friend? My sister (who is our nanny) has been a godsend as I can for the most part sit down for most of the day.

PrincessScrumpy · 22/08/2011 16:43

My mum had dd1 for a whole week (week before last) as I was in hospital. I could do with someone entertaining dd for a couple of hours in the afternoon so she can play and I can sleep. Mum's picking her up next Wednesday and having her for a few days (if all goes to plan). They will bring her back to meet her sisters on Saturday 3rd Sept. I might call her nursery and see what they can do for me. A lot of my friends work full time or have lots of kids. I don't like to impose and apparently I'm looking "really well" so people seem to think I'm coping - need to practice looking more ill!Grin

BB3 · 22/08/2011 17:40

Fingers crossed you will have some luck with nursery, even if it's a few days it will help!

Crikey this period pain is annoying now, wish it was either constant or regular rather than just RANDOM!

tiggersreturn · 23/08/2011 18:38

Finally have internet at home but are sadly back in hospital as dt1 had to go to scbu due to lethargy. Basically it's premature issues but it all feels rather rotten .
