PrincessScrumpy · 23/08/2011 19:38

Oh Tigger I'm so sorry. Best for them to be on the safe side. Sending a big hug xx

BB3 · 23/08/2011 21:37

Tigger - really sorry. Must be horrid For you. Fingers crossed its only for a short while and dt1 is out again soon xx

ipswichwitch · 24/08/2011 18:46

big congrats to silver and tigger on your arrivals- tigger, hope dt1 is home soon. hope everyone else is well. also, congrats to dachs, keeping fongers crossed for you
finished work on 12th aug, at 27 n half weeks, yaay!! and to be honest dont think i could have carried on any longer even if i wanted to!
princess glad i'm not the only one thinking "these babies are gonna be huge", these two have grown so much in the fortnight since my last scan, i cant figure out how they fit in my belly :)
quick question, did you get to the antenatal classes, and if so when did you start them? i've been told that they normally start at about 34 weeks for hospital based ones, but since it's so likely the twins will come early should we be asking about them now? am 29 weeks btw

BB3 · 24/08/2011 19:00

Hey all

Ipswich I'm not doing them but with DS they started about 32 weeks then one at 34 and 36 so might be worth asking hospital what best plan is for you x

Nursery production has finally begun complete with some dodgy wallpapering courtesy of dad but we will just have to cover up the really bad bits with picture frames!!! Grin

Hope everyone is ok today xx

tigger how is dt1 getting on?

tiggersreturn · 24/08/2011 20:18

Dt1 slightly more alert but this hospital thinks both were too early to be at home. so we may be here for a few days or weeks.

PrincessScrumpy · 24/08/2011 20:44

Tigger that's positive news, and sounds like both twins will get the care they need. It'll be worth it in the end x

Ipswich I did the classes with dd1 but were pretty pointless IME. Also, they were very much about VB and vaguely mentioned CS - I have to have a cs so I didn't bother. If there'd been a twin class I would have gone.

Is it me or does every day last a month near the end?! I'm sure it will feel quick in the end but Friday 2 Sept seems an age away still.

BB3 · 25/08/2011 13:39

tigger that's frustrating being back but at least you know you are in the right place and they wont let you go until both babies are fully ready to go home xx

Princess every day feels like a year at the moment - I have three weeks left until CS date and it feels like 40 years - Just think this time next week you will be one day away from seeing your babies! So exciting! Do you have a time for the cs?

I also found AN classes rubbish - the lead nurse was going on about it being like climbing a mountain then hoping on clouds when you got to the top with your breathing and all I remember from the labour was saying to the mw - you need to that that AN woman that this is not like hopping on clouds!!!!

MersyMersy · 25/08/2011 15:45

Hi All, can I join your thread? I'm 20+2 with DCDA B/G twins and I'm dying to talk to other twin mums/mums to be. I have tons of questions and no-one to put them too. Meh! I found your thread through a search and though I would take the leap and become an MNer. I'm new to mums net and forums in general so i'm still learning my MN's and DD's etc.

You've probably discussed all these things before but I'm stressing over which twin pram/buggy to get. My MIL has offered to buy it and is pushing me to pick one. I think the City Jogger looks good but the I think the carry cots look a bit small. I was wondering if anyone had experience of it?

I have loads of other questions but I'll try and contain myself for now :)

BB3 · 25/08/2011 15:57

Hi MersyMersy welcome - I remember feeling completely scared when I found out I was having twins and just had a million questions so thats perfectly normal.

Tigger has the city select I believe and LOVES it! It is very good and was my original first choice. I have the Bugaboo donkey and I am obviously not using it yet but I have to say my decisions completed changed when I went into store and tried them so I would spend a day going round JL, Mothercare, Mamas and Papas etc and just play with the twin prams, fold them down carry them, take the car seats on and off - all the things you will have to do on a daily basis and then make a decision. The shop assistants I have done this with have always been really helpful and not stressy when I didn't buy anything after an hour of question and answers! they probably were after I left but hey I was gone by then! Don't feel pressured to order one until you know for sure it is right as you will be so dependant on it!

PrincessScrumpy · 25/08/2011 16:15

We've found local babyshops (family-run) are better than Mothercare, which I was really disappointed with.

We've got our choice down to either the Out and About Nipper (which we've tested and fits in our front door) but doesn't have carry cots, or the Mountain Buggy Duet that's just been released. Car seats and carry cots will fit it and it's only 63cm wide but a side-by-side. We're testing it on Saturday so I'll give feedback if you like. The BJ City Select was a bit too wide to fit in the front door, plus we live in the country so I wanted a bit of an off roader. I think the City Select is great though and was in our top 3. Would go for it if we lived in a city.

PeelingmyselfofftheCeiling · 25/08/2011 16:17

Hey Scrumpy, that's the same 2 we're contemplating - a few weeks behind you on the shopping front I think, so really keen to hear your feedbck!

BB3 · 25/08/2011 17:05

Oh sorry I meant tigger has city select not city jogger.

Family run businesses are great - we used to have one down the road who would order me in the nappy liners I use without me having to trek into town and match prices etc on everything as well as talk through all the option but it shut when Tesco arrived at the top of the village. Boo!

tiggersreturn · 25/08/2011 18:48

If referring to me we got an out n about for free but I was contemplating a city mini as a 2nd one for something smaller to fit in the car.

BB3 · 25/08/2011 20:12

Sorry I have SERIOUS baby brain today (so much so I put ds's clothes in the bin rather than washing basket!!Blush) it was mrsStevo - although you know that'll probably be wrong too Blush sorry tigger. how is dt1 today?

PrincessScrumpy · 25/08/2011 20:39

We've got a 6yo out and about nipper which will be our spare at my parent's house. I played with it today and it's great, apart from it not having the swivel wheel at the front that the new ones have. It fits through our front door and by taking off a wheel it even goes into the livingroom - which I managed to do even with my big 36w bump.

I love the idea of the Duet and being able to put the car seats on it but is that really worth paying double that of a Nipper? Hmmm, I think I'll need convincing.

I'm a football widow tonight for a second night in a row - dh is getting it ourt of his system ans he won't be going for a couple of months after the twins arrive! Grin

galaxymummy · 25/08/2011 21:52

hi ipswittch have u rang the clinic at your local hosp? my local one is just about to stop theirs.

tiggersreturn · 25/08/2011 22:19

Back with me and dt2 but still very sleepy.

PrincessScrumpy · 26/08/2011 12:56

Tigger my mum had to wake me up to feed all the time - she hated doing it as my brother never slept so she felt she was encouraging a repeat, but I was 4lbs when born at 34weeks. I'm still a sleepy person now, not great for a mum-to-be of twins. I bet he goes from strength to strength now he's home. xx

ipswichwitch · 27/08/2011 10:57

tigger glad to hear dt1 is home, and hope you're all doing well.
thanks for the replies everyone, i spoke to midwife yesterday and she's putting me down for classes starting beginning oct, which means i'll be about 34/35 weeks by then - might still be too late now i think about it!! given what you guys have said about them, doesn't sound like they'll be much use anyway. the class co-ordinator is supposed to be giving me a call so i'll see what she has to say.
hi mersymersy, think someone has said already, but i also found the smaller, independent family-run shops to be much more helpful when looking for pram/buggy. mothercare were fairly rubbish, and actually had less choice than the independent place we ended up ordering our buggy from, so def worth a look

PrincessScrumpy · 27/08/2011 15:04

Ok, decision made - we're getting the Out and About Nipper. The steering is much nicer than the Duet and the seats are more padded, plus the handle on the duet is ribbed (probably a grip thing). It seems more hard wearing but the foam handle on the Nipper is so much comfier to hold. I was really surprised but I just didn't love the duet. The Nipper is lovely. Shame you can't put car seats on it but that's such a short time I would do that for, I cannot justify it being £300 more.

tiggersreturn · 27/08/2011 21:31

Sorry for confusion dt1 just out of incubator and in A heated cot with me and dt2 but still on scbu. He needs to start feeding again and showing he can put on weight before we can go home.

BB3 · 28/08/2011 15:29

Hello all, how is everyone today - I for one, am glad it's a bank holiday weekend!

Tigger how is dt1 getting on? Hopefully he is putting on a bit of weight and enjoying being back with you and dt2.

Princess not long now? 5 days time and you will have your babies here. How are you getting on?

ipswich that seems very late for twins and antenatal. maybe have a chat with the organiser and she what they think.

I'm sorry for the moan but I am starting to really struggle with this pregnancy, even turning over in the night hurts. Thankfully DH got up with DS in the night and DS happily snuggled into DH for sleeping rather than me but I swear he knows these babies are imminent and every second he is awake he wants to be attached to me and for me to play with him up and down on the floor. I feel like the worst mother in the world as all that comes out of my mouth is no! Sad

DH is working today and mum has taken DS out so I am having a lazy day watching DVDs in my pyjamas but I did the ironing and hoovering and my back is shot to pieces. I physically don't know how I will last to 37/38 weeks (am almost 34).

PrincessScrumpy · 28/08/2011 16:07

Hi bb3 I've found the only way to sleep without the agony is with huge numbers of pillows proping me up (as if I have a blocked nose) and one pillow under my feet. I know you're supposed to lie on your side but I simply can't any more. My pelvic bone at the front felt like it would split. I had physio a while ago and they gave me a tubigrip bandage (like you use on a sprained ankle) that is huge and goes around my hips so that has helped. I would have called the physio again if I hadn't been so close to the end now.

I too feel very guilty for not playing with dd1 enough. She's been at my parent's for a few days and now dh has taken her swimming. I'll be on my own with her Monday, tuesday and half of Wednesday when mum's coming to pick her up again until she meets her sisters on Saturday. Don't know how I'd have coped without mum helping, even though she and dad live an hour and a half away. The night before dd1 went to mum's, she came and asked to get into our bed in the early hours - she never does this so I did let her. I think she knows things are about to change big time and needed some cuddles - unfortunately she wriggled all night and announced everytime I got up for the loo, so none of us slept! Grin

I'm still so shocked that I've got to 36+3w - I really thought they'd come at 34w like my sister and I did. Definitely ready to get them out now, but in a couple of weeks I might decide it was easier when they were in! Smile

BB3 · 28/08/2011 16:34

princess that's exactly how it feels - like my pelvis is going to snap in two. I actually find sleeping on my back relatively pain free but then the nervousness kicks in and I turn back on my side out of guilt. I'll try the propping up tonight and see if that helps. Hopefully it will!

Bless DD, she probably does want a few mummy cuddles before the babies come and it is lovely but boy do they wriggle and suffocate you with their hugs!! Grin It will be strange to say bye to her knowing that the next time you see her you'll be a mum of three! (does that still feel strange to you, I can't seem to get my he's round jumping from one to three!).

You've done so well to get to 36+3. That feels like a decade away for me right now at 33+5!!!

Xx

BB3 · 28/08/2011 16:37

And I'm sure in a few weeks life will be utter chaos for us Grin.

DH and I were talking about life before DS came along last night and while we would not change him for the world it definitely turned life upside down a bit (no more lazy sundays at home) and having three will be even more chaotic!!
