Been doing research.

Blood pressure is measured by the highest amount of pressure and the lowest in the artery during one heart pump. The peak one (highest) is systolic, the lowest/resting is diastolic.

So it is systolic/diastolic.

In a normal healthy adult the ranges are between 90 & 135 systolic, 50 & 90 diastolic. It does get thrown out a bit for pregnancy, but I don't have the stats for that.

I would guess that either number going up, means your pressure is raising. Both going up a lot, means it is raising a lot. So, my 130/80 compared to my 100/60 is quiet a big jump really . It is all comparable to your normal readings though.

Anyone else's brain now melting out of their ears???

3k · 22/11/2005 12:05

My first reading was 110/70 then gradually it crept up to 158/92 which was high for me. I was getting those dizzy spells with them too and now it is lower I'm feeling a lot better.

Helen - thanks for reassurance re stretchies, mine were quite small then literally overnight got really big. I'm not too fussed with them though but loads of my friends keep telling me they never got them .

So bored at work today, busy'ish bot bored!! roll on Christmas! I'm off Friday too so looking forward to the snow if it happens!!

Helen38 · 22/11/2005 12:18

I didn't know I'd got strech marks untill i spotted them in the mirror, they were hiding under my bump! I had hoped to take after my mum as she doesn't even have one I believe you are more likely to get more if you are fair, skin less stretchy or something.

JuA · 22/11/2005 12:50

I expect I have got loads of stretch marks - but as I can't see under my bump without a mirror - I don't know and am not looking!
Had another scan today - and my babies have shot up the growth curve - from being on the 10% line they are now on the 50% line - both the same size and estimated weights of 1327g and 1375g (1361g = 3lb). so they have put on 1lb of weight each in 2 weeks - it is no wonder I feel huge! I had a bad dizzy spell during the scan and had to get them to stop and let me sit up - I think it was because I was lying flat on my back - it was quite scary - they did most of the rest of the scan with me sitting up - I am glad my Mum had come over to come with me - but she can't come next time - I might have to get dh to take some time off work and come with me.
Only 5 more days at work can't wait to finish

Flame Sparrow - congrats to your dd - I have given up any serious attempts to potty train dd - she wasn't that interested and it was all getting a bit close to when the babies might come and couldn't face the thought of loads of accidents whilst breast feeding.

3k · 22/11/2005 13:01

Great news on the twins JUA, 3lbs is a good weight.

My stretchies are low down too but we have mirrored wardrobe doors in the bedroom so I get to see them when I rub my cream in!!

Was thinking I may not come back to work in Jan - I'm only supposed to come back for 3 days but I will be 36 weeks pregnant. I will see how I feel I suppose but it would be great to leave just before Christmas especially if weather is going to be bad.

Jasnem · 22/11/2005 13:15

I got a few stretch marks with DD2 but didn't notice 'til after she was born as they were under the bump. Can't see any new ones yet, but I'm not getting a mirror and looking too closely either! They really do fade alot.

I think most of us have had illogical tearful moments, Helen. I'm definitely getting lots more this time for some reason.

Feeling much better now, went and found some chocolate, well I'm getting fat anyway thanks for all being understanding, it helps to feel that someone out there gets the whole feeling weepy for no reason thing.
ds2 is back from preschool and eating lunch in his tent in the living room, well he said please so nicely with his big blue eyes and fluttery eyelashes it's keeping him quiet!

hotmama1 · 22/11/2005 13:24

Afternoon girls. Just counted my days and I've got 72 days to due date - as I am in week 31. I'm going to do my bag this weekend, bought the rest of my stuff from Boots at the weekend - just need to get dd1s stuff out of the loft to wash and then my bag should be sorted - just in case I am early - wishful thinking as dd1 was 9 days late.

Trumpet call - my dd did her first unaided step yesterday - at 13 and a half months - so she should be speeding around when dd2 arrives after Christmas - what fun to look forward to.

Still no stretch marks (crossed fingers icon) still a bit of 'give' in my lower stomach so should be O.K. when dd2 'drops'.

I am so knackered and went to bed before 9pm last night - and my huge bump is making things so uncomfortable!

I'm getting quite excited now!

Went to my LaLeche breastfeeding classes - were really good - feel really confident that I will be able to breastfeed longer this time - also know where to access support if needed.

Got my hosp physio appt on the 7th Dec - better later than never.

Hope everyone is O.K etc.

TheOriginalTicTac · 22/11/2005 13:31

Hi Hotmama...glad all is well at your camp! Hospital bag? DH keeps telling me he thinks I should get one ready! Any idea what we are meant to take?????

hotmama1 · 22/11/2005 13:35

Lots of maternity pads, clothes and nappies for baba's (hosps are hot places though) I was in for 6 days so I got dp for bring in more. Lots of nighties, breastpads and nice snacks as hospital food is crap!

I had a leaflet from the hosp first time around - I took a labour bag and a hosp bag - you would have thought I was staying for a month - better safe than sorry!

TheOriginalTicTac · 22/11/2005 13:43

So it is not so much a "bag" but a small suitcase??

hotmama1 · 22/11/2005 13:46

More like large holdalls. Mind you I went in twice including an overnight stay before I was dilated enough to be kept in to give birth - and then we forgot the bath towels - dp was instructed to bring new supplies in the next morning!

Helen38 · 22/11/2005 13:48

lots of pads, more than you think you will need, cos you will get all 9mths worth at once!

3k · 22/11/2005 13:49

Can someone explain what their braxton hicks are like? I'm getting some sharp twinges, not sure they are braxton hicks as they hurt!! Do Braxton Hicks hurt?

TheOriginalTicTac · 22/11/2005 13:51

Helen - gorgeous...can't wait
You know, it is more what happens "after" that is bothering me...not the giving birth bit yet!

3K - My stomach goes rock solid with a cramping sensation...not sure if that helps

Helen38 · 22/11/2005 13:51

bump goes hard. they can not hurt but some do. I am struggling to describe what it feels like, will get back to you......

Helen38 · 22/11/2005 13:54

I agree with tictac, sort of crampy and it all feels tight. got loads with no2 and started even earlier, ho[ping that by the time it's born I will be so practiced baby will just pop out after i get to the hostital!

Helen38 · 22/11/2005 13:56

Sorry tictac but no one told me before my first and was a shock, is best to know what to expect

3k · 22/11/2005 14:00

I'm getting sharp pains but not really tightening, it only lasts a matter of seconds, makes me sit up straight and then goes off. Any ideas? Could that be a BH or shall I ring midwife? I did tell her I was having "twinges" yesterday but she just said it was fine but they hurt a lot.

TheOriginalTicTac · 22/11/2005 14:05

3K - sounds like it might be stretching but I would give mw a call...at least she can reassure you

Helen38 · 22/11/2005 14:09

They can last anything from a couple of seconds. It could just be because your muscles are being stretched, you can get all kind of odd pains the more pg you get. If you mentioned it to her yesterday and she wasn't concerned you are prob fine. Where does it hurt?

3k · 22/11/2005 14:12

It hurts lower down in my stomach, below my belly button. It is like a cramp but really hurts and I cant notice the tightening feeling either just the cramp. Perhaps the baby is giving me a good pelting!!

Helen38 · 22/11/2005 14:18

Could be that.
You're not weeing more than usual or even more than usual are you? wouldn't want to tell you not to worry then it turn out to be a uti drinking lots of water can help keep that sort of thing away, or cranberry juice of course.
I would say you know how much it hurts, so if it really worries you then talk to mw esp if it carries on or gets worse.

3k · 22/11/2005 14:20

Thanks guys, I have left a message for midwife to call so that I can check, the midwife said to me yesterday that the BH start at the top of your bump which is why I'm not sure it is that.
