2 days over and I feel crap, sick, achey but no promising signs. Come on baby!

Congrats everyone who has made it!

1Catherine1 · 15/03/2011 12:08

Congrats to the late announcers! Good luck with your move ckny - I hope you have your OH doing all the work :)

I would love to wish happy due date to someone but Shock nobody is due today! Maybe that means we'll get a surge of births Grin

Turns out my OHs workplace have started a bet on what day of the week the baby will come Hmm. Not really sure what to make of that to be honest. Not specific dates just day of the week. So here's hoping LO comes on Thursday since otherwise OH is out £10. Biscuit

Medee · 15/03/2011 12:25

Congratulations to the new arrivals.

My OH's work were very surprised to see him on Monday - don't think they understand due dates are just estimates! Apparently there is some sort of super full moon on the 20th, so maybe all our babies are waiting till then!

edeluna · 15/03/2011 13:12

Congrats to all the new parents and babies. So exciting. I am due in two days -- and really want her to get on with it at this point!

Tiny rant: my mother-in-law IMed me earlier to ask if I could look around for good deals on flights for their visit in April.

Um ... I'm due to give birth in two days and am exhausted. No, I don't want to spend hours trolling the internet for flight deals. Luckily she had to go before I answered that request. I'll have my husband deal with her. For the record, I love her and she's wonderful ... but I thought that was a bit over the top.

StrangewaysHereICome · 15/03/2011 14:22

Sorry I haven?t been able to keep up with you all, little Luke is being a bit of a handful and rather likes being held and I am rubbish at one handed typing. DH has him now, so here is the birth story ? (sorry it's quite long so don't read if you don't want to!)

On Wednesday night I was feeling much more uncomfortable than usual and had an inkling that things might be starting up. That morning I had been for a power walk around a bumpy field which a friend of mine had sworn got her into labour! I started to have a brown show after lunch so maybe there was some truth in it! At 2am I was woken with cramping and feeling a bit wet down below. I went to the loo and lost my plug and had a bloody show, hence the wetness. I went back to bed for a couple of hours breathing through the cramps which were starting to come every 5 mins. At 4am I got DH to put the TENS on and I went downstairs and tinkered about, timing the contractions on t?internet. They were coming every 5 mins but only lasting 30-40 secs. At 7am I phoned the midwife to let her know what was happening but said nothing felt imminent. She came out and checked me over, all okay and she was happy to leave me. DH got the children off to school and nursery and they were both very excited that the baby might be here before they got home!

By 10am the contractions had eased off so I went to bed for some rest. After an hour they were back and feeling much sharper. I got up and told DH, so he decided to head for bed to get a couple of hours rest. The mw phoned at 12, by this time the contractions were still a bit erratic, every 5-7 minute but lasting about a minute. She told me to call her when they got closer together. The TENS was still helping but the pains were getting harder to cope with. By 3pm they were coming every 3 minutes and I couldn?t speak at all through them. They were more painful than I remember and the only way I could cope was to stand on tiptoes while clutching the mantelpiece! I had to go upstairs as the kids were home from school and DH was arranging for a friend to have them. I called the mw and she heard my pain and said she would come straightaway. When she arrived she examined me, and I was only 2-3 cm. Gutted, I felt sure I would be at least 6!! So she explained I was not in established labour, I couldn?t have gas and air until I was 4cm. I carried on, the contractions while still extremely painful were still erratic. By now I was starting to doubt that I could do it. By 6pm the midwife said she would go, but I pleaded with her to stay at least until DH had got the kids to bed. Thankfully she agreed.

The contractions were becoming unbearable and the TENS was no longer doing the business. My waters were still in tact and I was feeling tremendous pressure in my back and pelvis. I tried the birth ball to open my pelvis but it made the pain horrendous. I had to stand on tiptoes with my legs together for each contraction - not ideal really!! By 7.15 the midwife examined me again, 3-4 cms and the baby was still very high. I nearly cried, I definitely felt with progress this slow I was not going to cope for much longer. I was allowed the gas though which really helped. It was hard to hear that even with all this pain and I was still not in established labour. The mw agreed to re-examine me at 11pm to decide the next stage, and maybe break my waters. The problem with this was as I was overdue there was likely to be meconium in them which would mean I would need to transfer to hospital.

After this discussion I had a big contraction and my waters went. DH had just got the girls to bed, but they were still awake and I was in the bedroom. The midwife decided not to go home (phew) but now the contractions were coming thick and fast she decided to call the student midwife to attend and asked her to bring another cannister of gas on her way. Suddenly I felt big pressure and needed to push. By the time the mw was back in the bedroom I had delivered the head, another contraction and Luke was born, on the bedroom floor at 7.45!! The midwife hadn?t got her gloves on or the birth pack out, and DH was suddenly promoted to mw?s assistant. So in 30 mins I had gone from 4cm with the baby still high, to fully dilated and delivered. He weighed 8lb 10oz, quite a whopper for me! DD1 was still awake so she came in to see him straight away, after a few sheets were put down to cover most of the mess. She was so excited! DD2 had gone to sleep, although I am not sure how as I was a little vocal near the end!

So despite losing heart at my slow and erratic progress, I had the most amazing homebirth and am still buzzing from it all. The longest part of my labour was delivering the placenta which took 37 minutes! I did have a second degree tear which I refused stitches for and seems to be healing well.

Good luck to everyone who are still waiting, especially if you are overdue. I was 11 days over in the end and two days off induction and that last week was unbearable. It is true though, you quickly forget all that when you have your little bundle in your arms Grin. Take care xx

Jupiter118 · 15/03/2011 17:01

strangeways good to hear from you and congrats again. Sounds like you surprised the MW a bit Shock. It all gives me hope that something will eventually happen here.

CKNY congrats.

niamh sounded promising, but nothing Confused actually happened.

Show continues (pink and white today) as do cramps - they were been every 7 minutes at one point earlier and definitely like pains in early labour stages last time, but not really amounting to anything and now back to being irregular. Immensely frustrating and uncomfortable.

Have been to triage again today (they will be so fed of me in there Blush. Had mild pre-eclampsia with DS so comm midwife always militant about watching for symptoms and gives strict instructions about phoning triage etc. Woke with headache at 4am, thought if went back to sleep it would go. Was worse at 8am and with dots and flashing lights - my cankles and chubby fingers also much worse in last few days. I ring, go in etc. Blood pressure on PET borderline, bloods normal, heart trace normal - have to have BP checked again tomorrow. Still have headache and vision issues though - yuck.

Whilst I was there I thought I would mention the cramping and sometimes regularity so was subjected to VE about which am now v confused. Had sweep last week (at my request) and comm MW said cervix anterior, soft, but still thick and 1cm dilated. Todays's MW (who swept again whilst she was doing VE) said cervix posterior, soft and stretchy and she could stretch to 3cm. How can it go from being anterior to posterior?? Bloody pregnancy Angry. Didn't hurt though.

Mildy worried that will now be too scared to go in and arrive at hospital with head hanging out or not make it at all.

Sorry to rant. Must bounce vigourously on ball this evening.

superpenguin · 15/03/2011 17:08

A little update from me: after having a bloody show early this morning, and mild pains, I had my midwife appt at 1.45 today and had a sweep. Apparently although head is still only partly engaged, my cervix was 50% effaced and 1cm dilated.
I'm now having pains around every 8 minutes and they are starting to get a little bit more painful.
Aware that this early stage could go on for some time but hoping baby will be with us soon!
I have booked for induction on Thursday though if he doesn't arrive tonight or tomorrow.

superpenguin · 15/03/2011 17:10

ooh Jupiter - cross posted. Sounds like you're on your way too - I'll race you!

Jupiter118 · 15/03/2011 17:19

penguin I am sure you will win. How exciting - hope it progresses quickly for you!

sittinghippo · 15/03/2011 17:52

Hi ladies, just dropping in to announce birth of DD2 Bethany, born 14th March at 5days overdue. successful VBAC, still flying about on cloud 9 and came home from hosp this afternoon.

Strangeways congratulations and I love the name Luke, that would have been on my list of boys names.

SuperP good luck I hope it kicks off for you.

Best wishes to anyone else still waiting or delivered. Will catch up properly when I've landed. Grin

Medee · 15/03/2011 18:17

Congrats Strangeways and Hippo!

Honeymoonmummy · 15/03/2011 20:14

Goodness, lots of movement and new babies! I had some discharge today but not sure if it was a show, didn't have one last time that I recall, it was clear jelly about 20p piece worth but no brown/ blood - is this a show or just discharge??

Hattie05 · 15/03/2011 20:40

Hi all

Congratulations to all the new arrivals! Now that dc has arrived i struggle to keep up with the thread.

Honeymoonmummy - not sure whether its a show either, but i had that for a week or so prior to ds being born - in the last day or two there was loads of it everytime i went to the loo.

Good luck superpenguin!

Strangeways - lovely birth story well done and congratulations!

I saw my midwife for the last time today - rather sad to be the end of an era. Ds has gone from 8lb 9 birth weight to 8lb 16 at 9 days old! so my worries of his sickiness don't really matter anymore!

Good luck to those still waiting to meet there babes!

1Catherine1 · 15/03/2011 22:55

Evening ladies... Congratulations Hippo and good luck to Jupiter and SuperP, I hope something is starting for you both :)

I have decided that the nesting instinct is just a myth and in reality ML is just really boring. After getting a weeks worth of errands done in one day today I was left with nothing to do so I cleaned the kitchen cupboards and made my very well loved chicken risotto to freeze. I know - there's no pleasing some people, I moan while I'm at work and moan when I'm not! I just like to be busy, hence why I worked up to 39 weeks. So definitely ready for LO to arrive as I think I might actually go crazy if forced to sit at home waiting for another 2 and a bit weeks.

Honeymoonmummy · 16/03/2011 01:48

Thanks Hattie, that's encouraging and congrats on the weight gain. What did you mean by vomiting, is it reflux?
Catherine, I can't believe you're bored already! Grin

niamh29 · 16/03/2011 08:35

Completely understand Catherine, I'm the exact same as you, I spent last week catching up, organising, resting etc, but now that's all done and I've gone from organised to super organised and I'm so ready for baby to
Come along and just feel like I'm waiting now so boredom is definitely threatening to set in.

On the up side I had the best sleep last night, 9 hours and only had to get up twice to pee........it was wonderful!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 16/03/2011 09:34

Congratulations to the new arrivals.

I am still waiting.... induction booked for Friday. Am trying to remain calm but feeling slightly stressed. I am going for a nice long walk later today - not sure if it will help, but even just for the relaxing element and being outside it might help as I was reading getting stressed can delay labour. I llive in NW London so there are at least 2 green spaces which will have some reasonably challenging walks.

Looks like there will be a few St Paddys day babies... they wll have ready made parties throughout the teenage years wont they.

KPidgeon · 16/03/2011 09:52

Congratulations on the further new arrivals and thank you for taking the time to post your story strange you sound like a trooper coping with the pain like you did.

Jupiter and Penguin hope things happen soon for you both.

Still just "relaxing" on ML here but it can be boring.. I agree Catherine. Think I'm going to clean the windows today- oh the excitement!

Kagey · 16/03/2011 09:52

Congrats Sittinghippo and I am pleased that your vbac was successful :) .

All twinges have now gone away, so I too had quite a nice nights sleep last night; I'll probably still have a nap this morning though Blush .

EvaLongoria · 16/03/2011 10:12

Oh my what a load of babies. One cant stay away for too long then this thread goes in overdrive.

Big congrats to all the new mummies hope you all had very easy births.

Sittinghippo Congrats on your VBAC, I am also waiting on normal labour after c-section with my DD but really really stressed about it.

I am due on Friday and was suppose to be booked for c-section on Wednesday 23rd. Had a pre-op meeting yesterday and whilst at the hospital they came and told me that unfortunately I could no longer have it on Wednesday and I needed to choose between Monday 21st or Thursday 24th. I went for Monday. So we might have a baby naturally by the weekend but will definitely have a baby on Monday.

Good Luck to all of you and hope you are not too uncomfortable at this stage.

Wow I can't believe how many little bundles have arrived. Congrats to everyone.

I am now 7 days over. Had sweep last week, MW said head very engaged but cervix very far back. I have another app today n sweep. Been walking, eating hot curries n bit of the other!!!.

I have had no actual show but lots of discharge. Lower back ache n dull aches but just no proper sign. Ian bit scared of being induced but it's looking that way.

Update later

congratulations sittinghippo Smile

I'm 39 weeks today, no signs of anything, it's a full moon on saturday though, so will be expecting a lot of announcements over the weekend.
My dad is moving to sheltered accomodation on the weekend and we will be moving him so this weekend will not be ideal for me.

me23 I'm the same due date as you, and my midwife has this weird theory that your babies are all born around the same day of the month, so DS1 was born on 19th June, so she reckons this one will be born 19th March. I must say, it's not the most scientific theory I've ever heard though! Hope you can hang on over the weekend but as for me, the weekend would be good, my mum arrives to take care of DS1 on Saturday!

Congrats Hippo :)

Soooooooo tired.... was sobbing to DH at half midnight last night as I was so tired, so uncomfortable, so achy and just desperate for sleep and couldn't. I always thought I'd be one of those women who really "suit" pregnancy but I'm SO NOT!!!!!

JeelyPiece · 16/03/2011 13:55

Hell's bells do I have cankles. My feet went to a new level of swollen yesterday and felt all tight and sausagey up my legs. They've gone down a bit now so haven't phoned mw/triage though maybe I should. Anyone else got elephant's legs?

Not sure whether to hold out till Friday's mw appointment.

Jeely - A phone call to put your mind at ease will only take a minute rather than wait 2 days. Make the call and ask them if it can wait till Friday.

Good luck for Monday Eva. Lozario, I think I Envy any woman who "suits" pregnancy. A woman in my NCT class really seemed to be coping well, she was a week ahead of me and then gave birth naturally at 36+4. So so Envy

Cat nets arrived for cotbed and crib today and as I finished attaching the crib one my cat decided to prove that I was wasting my time by going and lying on-top of it and looking at me triumphantly Angry - so I picked her up and put her on the floor, I'm still bigger than her!! Lost motivation to put the cotbed one on.

Don't know what I'm going to do today - going into labour would be a good plan but so far nothing. Open to other suggestions...
