New thread for us August 11 ladies

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Leilandri · 10/02/2011 00:07

and continued.....(sorry for long posts)

Mat clothes - I have dug out my bottoms from last time round as all my trousers are uncomfortable when I sit down, and I'm loving my meternity joggers that I forgot I had. I got all my mat wear from New Look last time, but have just ordered some bits from Matalan's maternity online, including a very cute jumper with a stork on the front!

Baby clothes - we have everything from last time, and we are defo going to find out the sex this time, so if it is a girl we'll get shopping after the next scan (7 weeks!)

And finally to food - the only thing I want to eat is chorizo and tomato spaghetti, which I stumbled across when clearing out the fridge contents 2 weeks ago, and have cooked it 3 times aweek since, DH says it's nice, but he's getting rather sick of it now!

Glad everyone's scans have gone well, I'll try to keep up more regularly!

MrsStevo · 10/02/2011 09:15

Oh leilandri, your comment about food made me nearly hurl. I can't even read it. Ugh. Oh how I would love to be able to enjoy the thought of food again :(

minicorrect · 10/02/2011 10:31

Morning all!

Glad all is ok Nix - loved your analogy of the smell - will remember that one!

I definitely have a bump but mine is more food baby than real baby I fear - I am eating non-stop but can only manage cakes and sweets. Last night I went for dinner with workmates and ended up having the sides as my main meal - I ate about 5 chips and some broccoli and carrots. The rest of the menu was meat and fish which makes me retch! Would live on boiled potatoes if I could but not many places sell them at lunchtime round here Grin. Have been wearing my maternity tights from last time (which keep falling down of course!) and dresses - but even they are starting to get tight now so might head to shops at weekend for new clothes! I will be 16 weeks so seems reasonable Hmm

Got a lovely card from my great-aunt yesterday to say I constantly amaze her with what I achieve - was so flattered - I only got pregnant - and she is an ex-QC which was always my dream job till depression got in the way and I gave up on academia.

Anyway, hope you're all keeping well and not letting all the aches, pains and niggles get you down - I get out of breath if I even stand up - and I usually walk super-fast everywhere. Hate the way this slows me down!!

Teladi · 10/02/2011 11:33

I am just back from my scan, best experience EVER! Can't believe how much it moves around in there! My due date has changed a little so I'll have to update the list.

MrsChemist · 10/02/2011 12:09

Glad to hear your scan went well Teladi

I've received a letter with my booking-in appointment today, but my scan only gets booked on the day of the appointment Hmm
It's on Monday and they are good about fitting in scans quickly, so fingers crossed there won't be a long wait.

littlemissw · 10/02/2011 12:58

So pleased that all is well Nix. Your sperm comment did make me chuckle. :)

Glad everyone else's scans has gone well too & good luck to those of you still waiting patiently.

I finally had mine on Monday after what seemed like an eternity. All is well with little pickle (a lazy one that didn't wriggle much at all) & hopefully NT will come back as low too. Nuchal fold was a bit high at 2, but it turns out I was further along than my previous scan indicated so its bound to be on the high end. The nurse that took my bloods told me that if high risk I'll know within 3 days & so far nothing, so FX no news is good news.

Re finding out the sex, we had a lovely surprise with DD1 & DD2 and I loved DH telling me 'its a girl!' instead of a complete stranger, but I think we're going to find out this time. At least I can get rid of loads of stuff if its a blue bump. Even though I wouldn't mind what it is, I'd really love another girl.

I'm def going to bf this time again too. I'm another lazy one & its so much easier at night to just get my boob out. :)

I forgot who mentioned swimming costumes now, but I can recommend Matalan. I just got one of theirs & love it. Really comfy, padded boobs & really flattering. It's like a tankini around the belly, but with a panel so no chance of bump stiking out.

Off to change my dates on the list.

littlemissw · 10/02/2011 13:11

@Wow, the 14 Aug is going to be a busy day it seems! :o

Yukana · 10/02/2011 14:20

Spent a while catching up on the posts, congrats to Nickster and I'm glad your experience was a happy one, Teladi.

Not sure what to say in this post, but I bought a titanium ring for DP today, and I'm incredibly excited for it to arrive~~ I'm not proposing to him as I think he wants to do it himself, but when he proposes he'll switch the ring onto his wedding finger. We talked a little about the wedding today, got quite embarrassed but it was lovely.

Anyone have plans for Valentine's day?

I've bought a giftbag that I'm going to fill with four different kinds of heart shaped sweets, and other various things. The ring will be custom made for me so sadly I can't get that for valentine's day, but I'm still happy about it nonetheless.

KLou111 · 10/02/2011 15:26

Ah, cute Yukana :)

Glad everything went smoothly Teladi, it's such a breathtaking experience IMO. It's amazing!

Well, 14 weeks today, 26 to go! 2 weeks til next ante natal appointment. Still no bump, and I seem to have lost that 1lb I put on despite almost finishing off a tin of Quality St over the last 2 weeks!

bettyboo83 · 10/02/2011 16:45

I've got lots of a few spare pounds if you want them KLou111?? Hmm

MrsVidic · 10/02/2011 17:20

hello ladies, regarding weight gain i was shocked to discover i.ve put on 8 pounds so far, but the boobs have arrived so i'm happy. I do look 5 months gone but i suppose thats to be expected with having my second quickly and eating constantly. For valentines were going out tonight as our dd is at grans for the night. We are going for am italian and i can.t wait! Checking this thread is one of the things i look forward to every day as its so special being able to share this with others, so thanks.

MorningsMadness · 10/02/2011 17:40

Let's stop talking food ... just boiled eggs for DDs tea and, well, erm, ugh, not sure how I can stop myself throwing them out the door!!!

davidtennantsmistress · 10/02/2011 20:49

caddy - I'm so so very sorry for you sweetheart. xx please be good to yourself.

things are ok here - 11+4 here, due date chaged to the 28th Aug have another scan in about 10 days, first bloods have shown that I have a low blood count - excellent!

anyhow how are we all getting on?

MrsChemist · 10/02/2011 20:59

I have another cold Angry

DH works in the Plaguelands that are Studentville, so usually brings home the freshers flu and a billion other coughs and colds.
We usually get off quite lightly but the pregnancy just means I pick up everything going.

Yukana · 11/02/2011 08:49

bettyboo Your comment made me chuckle. :) I also have spare fat--insulation- pounds that you can have if you like, Klou.

Sounds lovely MrsV! I'm not sure how many months gone I look myself, hopefully I look pregnant to people other than myself and DP!

MrsC Ah I know how you feel, my mother likes to bring in the family colds. I don't usually pick up anything except maybe once a year, but that's whilst avoiding the plague that is the nearby city.

Firawla · 11/02/2011 09:40

I've got another midwife apt this evening, i'm 14 weeks (i think? losing track..) can't remember whether they would listen to the heartbeat yet? i hope so cos i always like that but dunno if it is too early?
also think i will get back results from the basic gluclose test which they did @ booking which i really wanna find out cos i am a bit paranoid about diabetes as my last baby was over 9lb (altho he was late though but still its a big baby...)

hope everyone is well and any more apts, scans that everyone's goes well :)

LittleBeaut · 11/02/2011 10:15

Wow I once again have loads of posts to catch up on. Not been on since Monday night as my laptop got a blooming virus grrr Angry, but back up and running now so will be trying to catch up today inbetween cleaning, washing and shopping for something to wear tomorrow night for a night out with friends for a curry... wish me look!! xx

RunDMC · 11/02/2011 10:32

just had to share my first bizarre baby dream - we were at home with the baby who was covered in vernix (?) and we had nothing for the baby - no cot, moses basket, nothing. Plus the dog was completely beside himself with jealousy and wouldn't leave my side. First night we were up all night and my DH kept saying.. isn't it time to go to bed now and I was like..er no - this is our life now !!

Thankfully I woke up and realised there was still plenty of time to get organised and sleep !! Phew..

LadyGoneGaga · 11/02/2011 10:39

They listended to the heartbeat at my 15 week appt, Firawla but only because ~i ased them to and they did a bit of a disclaimer first saying as was early tehy may not be able to pick it up so tehy wouldn't scan be if they couldn't find it. But they found it straight away anyway so hopefully you will get to listen Grin.

Why DO dreams get so vivid in regnancy. anyone keep having rude dreams about random people as well? Blush

nickstermum · 11/02/2011 11:07

My heartbeat was picked up at 14 plus 3

They say a lot depends how slim you are xx

Rozeeglow · 11/02/2011 11:15

I don't think they'd have a problem finding my bubbas heartbeat then as I've lost so much weight with the 'morning' sickness. I can safely say its been quite a few years since I've seen the figure that's recently emerged Blush
Still, its nice to see my old figure for a short while - it will be disappearing soon enough :)

Annie456 · 11/02/2011 11:29

Are any other first timers freaking out yet? I keep waking up in the night in a state of panic. The dreams have never bothered me as it's nice to be able to picture myself as a mother but at 3am when I can't believe I'm going down to the loo for the 4th time (it's downstairs..) I just think "I can't do this!" and "I'll never cope!"
I'm sure so much of it is instinctive but it just seems so overwhelming. I don't have any family near by and none of my friends have babies so I feel like I'm going into the complete unknown. I'm also worried about being really isolated. DH works really long hours so I worry about being lonely for days on end.
On a positive note, I KNOW things are never as bad as you imagine so I just need to remind myself of that at 3am tomorrow! (7 sleeps til scan....)

KTisPG · 11/02/2011 12:10

Annie Don't panic (even though it's perfectly normal too). I'd really recommend NCT ante-natal classes to give you a group of friends who's babies will all be around the same ages as yours. Even if you don't do classes, get in touch with your local NCT branch and find out what services they offer in your area. They normally do bumps and babies groups, open house coffee mornings or toddler groups and they are all available to both members and non-members (I must confess to being a volunteer for my branch).

I didn't know anyone with babies when I had DD and I've made a great group of friends I'm still in touch with 5 years on.

Most local churches do toddler groups too and you don't have to be religious to go. It is daunting going for the first time, but please do, and if you don't like one, try another - there will be one that fits you somewhere.

And you've always got us Grin

KLou111 · 11/02/2011 12:40

Annie don't worry, I totally felt like that through my very first few weeks. It's going to be a life changing experience totally. I had an early scan at 9 weeks due to a brown bleed, and as soon as saw the little one, my heart just melted (even though it was just a blob with a heartbeat!)
After you have had your scan, I am sure you will change and you will be so excited :)

KLou111 · 11/02/2011 12:42

We live 3.5 hours away from anyone we know, so we're on our own too, even though our neighbours are fabulous, and have children, but expecting to meet new mums at classes etc.
