Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Firawla · 22/03/2011 18:19

Mrs v its probably normal to feel a bit like that if you had felt convinced it was going to be boy or girl then you're told opposite, once you get your head around the idea you may feel much better? I think its really nice to have two of the same especially if they are quite close in age, to play together etc?

I am a bit anxious about my scan because if i could choose then i would want a girl now but i don't want to feel disapointed either way so just hoping that if they say boy then i will feel really happy with it

The strep b thing sounds worrying so that is prob making you feel much worse but hopefully it will all work out fine.

neverlookback i hope your eyes are okay, would go and get it checked out just to see if you can find out what it is otherwise you will be worrying incase it happens again?

Firawla · 22/03/2011 18:22

wheresmy tractor congrats that is lovely! can imagine how excited you must be, IF i did find out girl tomorrow then I would be the same, you must be having fun with all the girl's shopping there are some lovely things around

as for names Iris and Willow are both v pretty, really like both of those.
still not got settled on any names for ours

nickstermum · 22/03/2011 19:39

tractor just love Iris for a girl.

The strep b thing is not such an issue, I was told they treat it usually a couple of weeks before due date(?) - and is very common. Would rather strep b than strep A (which i was carrying last year... causes very premature births!)

IMO Dont really understand the disappointment about whether you get a boy or a girl. Its either gonna be a boy or a girl 50/50 either way! I will be happy with either as long as its healthy.

LadyGoneGaga · 22/03/2011 19:56

Tractor we have decided on Iris if it is a girl. So yes, I like it Grin. But could be a boy yet as have a yellow bump. I think gender disappointment is why is good not to find out. When the baby is actually here you will love it whatever your prior preference as it is an actual baby rather than the idea of a baby.

I love Willow as well but as DS is William it really wouldn't work for us!

We are still undecided on boys names at the moment. Have both middle names sorted though - Mary after my Mum and Thomas after DP's Grandfather.

MrsVidic · 22/03/2011 20:22

Hello, have sorted my head out now. Thanks so much for the supportive messages! My hormones are all over the place and I'm getting my head around having another dd. I'm so glad I found out at the scan as I would have hated to feel like that at the birth.

The strep b thing they explained to me is only treatable in the labour, with 4 hours of iv antibiotics. I have also been told the chances of mr labouring for long enough to get the full dose are very small. I live 40 mins away from hospital and only laboured 6 hours in total last time.
So if Dp is working 90 mins away from hospital, I'll have to go on my own immediately to the hospital and meet him there. Doable but not what I anticipated.

Anyway we have talked about it and if that's what needs to happen then so be it.

majormoo · 22/03/2011 20:55

MrsV-there are often threads about gender disappointment so I think it is pretty common. Glad you have got your head round it now. What a pain about the strep b but at least it has been spotted.

Never best get your eyes checked just in case. I guess pre-eclampsia doesn't raise its ugly head this early (I don't know that-am assuming) but worth getting it looked into. My dad gets visual migraines so maybe another type of migraine?

I know a gorgeous 1 year old called Iris. I think it is a sophiscated name. Willow lovely too.

littlemisslozza · 22/03/2011 21:22

MrsVidic I had Strep B in my first pregnancy (found out afterwards when they swabbed my stitches) so they tested me at 36 weeks in my second pregnancy. I was clear of it, but they will test me at 36 weeks again this time. Yours may have gone by then, can you ask them to test for it at 36 weeks, that is normal procedure I believe. Also, I have two the same gender (boys) and they are as thick as thieves! They have such fun. I am slightly worried about what is going to happen when a third child is thrown into the mix....but hoping it will be alright.

Wheresmytractor how exciting! I think Iris is a beautiful name too. Yes, I am planning on going down the ELCS route again, looking forward to it. No date yet, they won't give me one until my next consultant appt at 34 weeks so got ages to wait.

Bryher · 23/03/2011 01:27

Welcome alibaba, lilyraesmummy, Gonnabee, hope I haven't missed anyone else!

Ooh, wheresmytractor I'm really tempted by the nipper 360, good to hear someone recommend it! Have you ever had trouble with punctures, I'm a bit paranoid about them!

After posting on Carseats thread for advice, I've decided to use second hand Graco travel seat from cousin (guaranteed never in crash) from birth, and then buy something like a rearfacing BeSafe car seat which will last 6 months - 4 years ish. I'd rather spend money on that than a travel system I'll only use for the first year or so and as others say is heavy and faffy.

Congratulations to Yukana, nickstermum, selina, KLou, MrsV, wheresmytractor on scan news - glad to hear LOs all OK. Though sorry to hear you were upset MrsV, hope in time you feel better about it, and aren't too worried by the strepb news. As you say in later post I'm sure hormones made it feel worse too. Like KLou, I'm kind of hoping for a girl so not sure how I will react if I find out it's a boy, but I'd rather find out at scan than in the labour room!

Nhan Sorry about your scare, glad things turned out OK and you found a friendly hospital :)

MrsChemist I'm having real trouble sleeping on my side and keep waking up with pelvic pain / back ache when I do, despite Dreamgenii pillow. My body definitely still naturally wants to sleep on my back!

Well - my scan tomorrow (19+1), I'm kind of nervous (which I guess is why I'm up on Mumsnet rather than in bed!) as haven't felt much movement yet and scared something may be wrong, prob just because I'm chubby really, lol! Have had the odd flutter so far, but that may be gas... Will update tomorrow.

Yukana · 23/03/2011 06:38

Iris and Willow are both unusual and elegant names. :) Lovely choices.

Thank you Bryher, good luck with your scan.
I'm also glad to know everyone's recent scans have been okay, and I wish those of you who have yours coming up luck.

Me and DP can't seem to agree on the girl's name, and so I feel as if I don't choose the name he likes for her first name, I'm going to feel horrible. I love the name he suggested, but.. I'd prefer it as a middle name for some reason. His suggestion is Freya, and the name I love is Ciel. (pronounciation: Cee-elle, meaning: 'Sky' in French) So in the end it would be Ciel Freya. Opinions? I'm awfully stuck here!

FeralGirlCambs · 23/03/2011 08:03

Yukana, I think Freya Ciel sounds nicer, don't know why! Am thinking Flora Isobel here, which has some similar sound patterns actually, now I come to think of it... Iris and Willow both lovely - I've thought of both, though our neighbour has already 'bagged' Iris for her 4 year old. I too am hoping slightly more for a girl (though on team yellow); girl stuff and girls' names so much prettier! Good luck today Bryher; let us know how it goes. And MrsV - hope you're feeling better today; don't beat yourself up over it!

Firawla · 23/03/2011 08:09

bryher good luck for scan, mine is today too 10am. i started to feel bit more movement again so glad about that, it can be worrying if not but i suppose not everyone even feels anything yet anyway? can be another couple of weeks sometimes.

my 2 yr old has jumped on my stomach yesterday quite hard! but i did feel moevement etc after that so don't think he has done any damage, quite painful though! told him off quite harshly so hope he will take a bit more care..

yukana i would maybe leave it a bit and both keep thinking about the names and maybe nearer the time you will be able to agree which way round to put it? ie he may come around to yours hopefully, cos atleast his one would still be in the middle!
it is hard sometimes finding one you both agree on fully, it always takes us till nearly the last minute to finalise our choices. if you just name them on your own it would be easy but its the comprimising with dh/dp that slows it down!
i think ciel is nice, i like uncommon ones and thats a pretty sound and meaning

LadyGoneGaga · 23/03/2011 09:19

I once went on holiday to a place called Cordes-sur-ciel which means Cordes in the sky (as is a little citadel on top of a hill). Very romantic. I think I prefer as a middle name though too. She may have a nightmare having to spell it/correct pronounciation a lot as it is so unusual.

I've definitely found girls names easier this time. Last time the boys name was easier and he was a boy. Maybe a sign? Grin

Good luck with scans, Bryher and Firawla

neverlookback · 23/03/2011 09:48

ooh i like Ciel too but i know dp would not go for that, he is much more traditional on names but i have persuaded him to let me have Willow if its a girl as i have had my heart set on it for years, and i agreed to have his mothers middle name Ann as the middle name, i already have a Daisy and a Charlie, I find boys names really difficult, so far we like Joey and Harrison, I like Roary but dp gone off it! God dont get me started on names!!!!

We have booked some flights for late June, i will be 32 weeks!! eek, but its our own place and no one will see me like a beached whale in my cozzie!! dp having an op in 2 weeks and not going to be fit to lug cases and 2 kids around for quite a while, my parents are coming too so will hopefully help. think we will be ready for a break my dp hardly here at mo so busy with his work!

got my first consultant app this aft which i dont really want, never been put under a consultant before but as ds was 10lb3oz they want to keep an eye on size, so far i think im the smallest ive been at this stage compared with the other 2,
I just want to be left alone, i know i have big babies but i push them out on my own too, im scared they will say i have to have a section or induced early!! ill see what they say later.
right need to hoover and finish painting ds's new room
have a good day pregnant mammas x

Rehune · 23/03/2011 11:29

Uhm....has anyone else had pregnancy fetish weirdos come on to them? I'm a size 6 frame and have stayed that way so the bump is quite obvious now at 21 weeks. Its not like I am sexy and curvy - I look like a barrel with slim arms and legs. And yet have had advances from several menfolk. At first I thought (hoped) I was just imagining it but someone asked me at Westfield yesterday if they could touch my belly. Ew ew ew ew...

Please please tell me this has happened to someone else!

alibaba76 · 23/03/2011 11:33

Rehune how bizarre! Not had any experiences like that, have you considered moving lol

Firawla and Bryher I've had no movement at all (but it is my first) and really starting to feel anxious - can't wait for scan a week tomorrow to hopefully confirm everything is ok.

Bryher · 23/03/2011 12:17

Hi all Scan went fine, all is OK and no anomalies, baby is definitely moving around in there so hopefully I'll start feeling movement soon! Was such a relief to see everything is OK, and the midwife gave us a little guided tour of all the bits! We are having a little boy :) Guess we'd better start thinking of names, we'd managed to agree on a girl's name but can't decide on boy's names.

I love Willow :) Iris and Flora are good too. Grr, girls' names are so much prettier! Yukana I think if it was me I would prefer Freya Ciel to Ciel Freya - because of the spelling thing, but that's just because I have spent my married life spelling out my surname and it drives me mad. They're both pretty names anyway :)

Firawla Hope your scan went well. I think baby is quite well protected in there, I had a similar thing but with my heavy cat jumping on there, all seems to be fine though!

Rehune Not had that problem yet, but TBH I am more of a size 20 frame so bump doesn't really show yet! I have been warned that people like to come up and touch bumps though, it is really odd...

neverlookback Hope it goes OK with consultant, I had to see one as I'm overweight and it went fine, better than I expected. Hopefully if your baby doesn't get as big this time they won't hassle you too much.

Rehune · 23/03/2011 12:34

Glad scan was fine Bryher and congrats on your blue bump!

Am feeling the baby move regularly now which is awesome and weird and really makes me smile. When is it usual for other people (not random fetish people but rather those you know and love!) to feel the kicks from the outside.

Also keep getting these feelings of being overwhelmed with all the stuff I should know/do/buy for when the baby comes.

Yukana Doesnt Freya mean Lady? So either way it will be a lovely meaning. Sky Lady or Lady Sky!

KLou111 · 23/03/2011 12:49

Hope your scan went/is going well Firawla.

Glad you got a blue bump Bryer, and all is OK in there :)

Ferel, I wouldn't worry if your neighbours little one has the name that you like. The only name we have considered for a boy is Ewan/Iwan, and our next door neighbours 3 year old is called Iwan. We're not going to live here forever, but even if we did, I don't see the harm. It's the name we like, so if we want to use it we bloody will lol!! It's not like it's you brother or sisters little one's name :)

I like Freya Ciel Yukana, like Bryer said, I think it sounds more elegant that way around, comes easier off the tongue. I have such a simple surname, but have to spell it to EVERYONE and it drives me mad!!

Halfway for me tomorrow, still no bump :(

aStarWithHerOwnWays · 23/03/2011 12:55

Yukana I would also go for Freya Ciel, as it flows better. Plus, with Ciel as a first name she will have a lifetime of people saying 'Seal?' back to her, not out of malice but just because it's unusual. As a middle name, she can explain it or not as she chooses and I think people will be charmed by the romance of it.

JenniL1977 · 23/03/2011 13:23

Hi everyone, glad to read of lots of good things going on. Sorry for those with scares and wierd eyes Confused - I keep getting "flashes" across my vision where it all goes really light for a second or two - I'm blaming blood pressure, although I don't know, but mine's always been quite low anyway. I can also hear my heartbeat and blood pumping in my head pretty regularly, which is disturbing! I'll ask MW when I next see her.

Bryher I'm really glad you said you've not felt anything yet, I can't either and its driving me mental! I keep getting a really heavy feeling in my pelvis though, so am hoping that's the baby's back just lying on my bits down there and he's just a lazy arse like his dad. Not that I know if he's a boy yet, still 10 days to scan (that's driving me mental too!)
KLou I bet you've got more of a bump than you think you have. I had a spy at your pictures and we look like we've got pretty similar figures, mine's really coming on now though (and I like to eat a lot of cake in the day to make it more pronounced for when DH gets home so he runs round after me and the cat rather than it being the other way around!)

Am still utterly confused about prams and travel systems and car seats. I just can't work it out. Will probably end up going with the Britax ones as my three best friends all used this with theirs and they loved them, and I found them pretty easy when I was helping them out with theirs.

We're moving!! New house is BEEYOOTIFUL, in Harrogate (so I'm going all posh :) ) and they'll let the cat come too. Whoop! We move in on 15th April. I can't wait.

Names are the only thing we've sorted - although we've had 4 years of ttc to think of them! -
girl will be Esme Olivia Miraid: my nana's name was Olive, and DH's mum Miraid (Mimi);
boy will be either Evan or Heath(cliff) with middle names Michael Bewick: Michael is my dad and brother's name, Bewick is a tradition in DH's family that the first born boy has to have and he has. Am concerned Heathcliff is too pretentious, but Wuthering Heights is my favourite book, and we both love the Kate Bush song, and all my mates think it's ace! I'm sure you'll let me know what you all think tho Grin

CappuccinoCarrie · 23/03/2011 13:39

jenni you'll be just up the road from me after you've moved :)
Baby has started kicking/punching, has made me yelp and jump a couple of times! 12 more days til scan but I'm pretty sure things are ok in there!
My favourite girl's name is Erin, but with our surname and a Yorkshire accent it sounds like 'Herring Bone' so I have to admit its not a goer...DH and I have totally different ideas about boy's names. He hates my current fave name, and I'm ambivalent about his. Given that we are of the same opinion on so many things and get on so well, we absolutely cannot agree on names, each of our children has a compromise name because we don't like each other's favourites! Our DCs would be Erin and Joel (or Ben) if I'd had my way, and Bethany and Winston if he'd had his Confused He's still gunning for Winston this time round but I will not even consider it!

majormoo · 23/03/2011 13:52

Congrats on your son bryher
rehune well not had complete strangers after my bump have to say. I would say any time from 20 weeks others could feel little kicks but different for everyone.
yukana lovely names either way. Jenil not sure i would have guts to go for heathcliff but also love the book and song.
we will leave the name discussion for a while as been through the name book so many times!
beautiful day. sitting in garden while DD at school,.ds1 at nursery and chicken pox boy sleeps. so lovely and quiet.

aStarWithHerOwnWays · 23/03/2011 13:57

Rehune you need to work on your 'stay the fuck away from my belly' glare, it did wonders for me last time Wink

Bryher congrats on having a boy. Baby boys are lovely and squidgy and delicious :)

We have thought of no names for either sex so far this time. After the scan, if all is well, I'll get the book out Grin

WYorksLass · 23/03/2011 14:00

Do you mind if i join you on this thread?
I'll be 18 weeks pregnant with my first tomorrow

Rehune · 23/03/2011 14:48

Welcome WYorksLass and congratulations

CappuccinoCarrie my DH suggested Winston last night but he knows it wont go anywhere

I just have this fear that we are going to pick a name and love it and then Posh Spice will name her child that

I was outside the Myla store when this incident happened aStarWithHerOwnWays - window shopping and definintely didnt have the game face on. I think I have perfected the Tube 'Dont pretend you cant see me standing while you sit down' face
