She looks very calm. I wish I had a birthing pool just to lounge around in.

Muser · 14/02/2011 21:31

I think this might be transition. I predict baby soon.

CluckyKate · 14/02/2011 21:32

Ooh - I think you're right. Mum & partner aren't calming her very well though....have just lectured MrCluck about not talking to me like that.

rocketleaf · 14/02/2011 21:33

Yeah interesting what the MW said that women tend to panic when entering transition as both of these did.

Muser · 14/02/2011 21:33

They really aren't. They should be helping her breathe, she's losing it and they ought to be helping her focus back into the breathing.

Good tips for instructing TBG though.

Muser · 14/02/2011 21:35

Our NCT teacher said the same thing rocket. She said it would be the hardest bit but would also mean we were nearly done. And that we needed to be very clear to our birth partners what "I want an epidural" really means so they can be prepared for that bit.

CluckyKate · 14/02/2011 21:35

Yep - my thoughts exactly Muse

rocketleaf · 14/02/2011 21:41

I think my problem is going to be getting TB to buy into the whole hippo birthing thing in the first place. He is probably going to see it as complete woo and will wonder why i dont just have all the drugs I can get my hands on :D Hopefully NCT and the other anti natal classes will help with that.

Muser · 14/02/2011 21:42

Oh look, she has a baby.

CurlyCasper · 14/02/2011 21:42

just catching up with OBEM after watching The Social Network. V impressed with the 20 years olds. And having flashbacks of also yelling I Can't Do It! At transition.

Intrigued by slow loss of plug muse. Never saw mine... could be this week, could be March. definitely soon though! Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

CluckyKate · 14/02/2011 21:44

Hmm - wasn't quite hypno-birthing though. Pushing is a no-no and is vigorous rubbing of the baby immediately after the birth.

Such a pity as is a wasted opportunity for them to show a really positive hypno-birth...more the like one on "Cherry has a baby"

Scorpette · 14/02/2011 21:49

My Mum would be useless as a hypno-birthing partner - as soon as I so much as frowned she'd start crying and go screaming 'GIVE MY DAUGHTER DRUGS NOOOOOOW!' in the corridor. I'm totally serious. that's kinda why I love her :)

Oh wait, she's out of the pool - is that to get the pethidine or is it for good?

I wish I could persuade TYF to watch a bit of OBEM cos I think he imagines it'll just like me having really bad period pains. Admittedly, I used to have vvv bad ones, but even so...

Is The Social Network good, Casp?

Scorpette · 14/02/2011 21:52

Sorry, I paused the tv earlier and forgot I'm 5-10 mins behind. Even though it wasn't totally hippo, it still seemed quite calm and 'easy' in the end.

Muser · 14/02/2011 21:55

Doesn't it depend what kind you're doing Clucky? I think she was doing natal hypnotherapy, which is the cd/book I have and it's all about relaxation. It doesn't say not to push. It is all breathing and visualising the baby moving out, but it doesn't say don't push. Just trust that your body can do it for you.

CurlyCasper · 14/02/2011 21:59

yes I quite enjoyed it Scorps.

and most of my labour was like bad period pains. Just not the last few hours. I get bad pains etc like you and kept refusing pain relief despite the MWs recommendations because that was how i viewed the pain. But then I tried gas and air and decided it was great fun!

Scorpette · 14/02/2011 22:00

WTF is with the young mw going on about not being able to believe how babies are born and can come out of such a small hole, etc.? Hmm Are you sure you're in the right profession, ducky?

rocketleaf · 14/02/2011 22:01

haha i nearly posted the exact same thing score WTF?

CurlyCasper · 14/02/2011 22:02

i just saw that bit. I suppose it's good that's she's so fascinated by her job.

Scorpette · 14/02/2011 22:04

Yeah, on her first day, did she ask where the storks land?! Or where the gooseberry bushes were?

BTW, TYF wrote something soppy about me being the mother of his child in his V Day card to me - was it very cruel of me to have said 'Awww, that's so sweet! And funnily enough, it's what my other boyfriends wrote in theirs too!? Grin

rocketleaf · 14/02/2011 22:06

I thought it was odd that the girl whose fella was insides mum said that 'she got the midwife she wanted' ie young amazed that babies fit inside bellies girl. I suppose she wanted someone close to her age. Where as my thinking is the older the better as they will be more experienced!

CurlyCasper · 14/02/2011 22:06

pure evil!

Aibu to want another baybee every time i watch OBEM!

CurlyCasper · 14/02/2011 22:07

? not !

That last baby was Squeaker size. and squeaky!

rocketleaf · 14/02/2011 22:07

I think so curly It makes me want this one never to come out :o

CluckyKate · 14/02/2011 22:08

Yes, you're right Muse. Shame they didn't go the whole hog and show a full-on Hypnobirth though.

Thought the young waterbirth girlie in an earlier episode was a better example of a calm and well-managed birth.

Medee · 14/02/2011 22:12

yeh, I really don't want to hear a MW saying that!

I had mixed feelings re the hippo birth - she was doing so well, and then wasn't, but then the actual birth seemed really straightforward.

I think it all points to a bit of hippobirthing/ yogic breathing, plus water plus G+A.
