You didn't see some of the moggies we saw as a family when on holiday in Menorca in the 80s, Leafy Confused

Google says cats can get rabies So NAH!

rocketleaf · 19/02/2011 23:38

Sorry of course they can! For some reason for a moment I thought it was canines only but then Iremembered you can get it off monkeys plus if it were canine only it wouldn't be a problem for humans would it? Silly salads. Definitely a sign I am past my bed time

Scorpette · 19/02/2011 23:48

A rabid dog tried to attack my Dad when we were on holiday in France once and he had to spend over an hour standing in the sea whilst it frothed at the water's edge at him and police, etc., tried to capture it Confused V scary!

Get thee to bed - enjoy the starfishing :)

rocketleaf · 20/02/2011 00:19

Scary!!

Now in bed and trawling AIBU on iPhone. It will not end well :o

Medee · 20/02/2011 16:47

Hello all, back from Glasgow, lovely weekend and rammed to the gunnels with baby stuff.

thanks for the extra detail Muse - I too have an anterior placenta, so that is useful to know. Sorry to hear you have been struggling with the BF but really glad you got some good support.

I never thought of taking my own pool - shall ask at my next midwife appointment.

Medee · 20/02/2011 16:53

Time for this I reckon....

Backinthebox · 20/02/2011 17:04

Medee, it's worth trying, but we tried to convince the hospital to let us take in my IM's own birthing stool and they wouldn't let us. They cited Elf and Safety, as their staff would not be trained to use the piece of equipment in question and because in their opinion they could not guarantee the stool would be sufficiently clean. (Which given that the most extreme doses of antibiotics I have ever had to take in my life have been as a direct result of hospital procedures done incorrectly, is a pathetic excuse.) They had stools of their own in the hospital but they were a cheaper make than the one my IM provided, and the head MW said she couldn't recommend I use one as they were so uncomfortable. That is such an NHS thing to do - say 'ooh, let's buy three cheap ones instead of one decent one, nevermind that noone will ever use the cheap ones cause they are crap!'

As it was, LG's rush to be out meant he was born at home and we used the stool after all. IM had cunningly put it in the boot of her car in order to try and blag it's use at the hospital after all.

Anyway. Worth asking.

Scorpette · 20/02/2011 18:34

Considering their reputation, it is pretty laughable that the NHS would ban such stuff from patients' homes on the grounds of poor hygiene. Although, of course, far too many people are filthy skanks and they can't guess who is and who isn't.

The Updiffed list is looking mighty short suddenly. Defo plenny spaces for some lucky BESHes to turn their B into a P

When did I become 4th on the list, eeeep? As we know Drom will be meeting Berwhale this week, that kinda makes me 3rd. Shock
Still, guess I'm not as nervous as Medee, huh?!

We still haven't bought anything or found a bigger place to bloody live. TYF's colleagues keeps offering us all sorts so he wants to put off getting owt, which I get, but the guy is dragging his heels over giving us any info. Says he'll give us the codes for the things he's offering for us to check online but that doesn't show us what condition they're in (or if they're nice or vile, etc.). Arrrgh! I realise I sound ungrateful but I have such a strong nesty urge to get everything ready in plenty of time.

LadyGoneGaga · 20/02/2011 19:31

Understandable you want to get sorted. What sort of stuff has he offered, Score? Can't you just pop round and have a look and see if you like it or not?

On nipples discussion mine didn't bleed or drop off! Sounds like a bad latch to me. Had a little bit of soreness to begin with but sortable with Lansinoh.

Glad they are giving you extra help, Muse. I really needed that close support initially to get latch sorted. Makes all the difference between a good start to the breastfeeding relationship and a miserable one.

Been doing jobs all weekend. All paperwork is filed, non-maternity clothes packed away in vacuum bags in the loft and maternity clothes in wardrobe rather than strewn around the house. MrG has varnished the downstairs doors. Am having a smug moment as for once the house looks vaguely tidy! Went out for posh curry last night and met friends in the pub afterwards - very lovely weekend. And MiniG now back from his Dad's so going to have a bath with him. And relax...

OP posts:
rocketleaf · 20/02/2011 19:50

I did the clothes sorting on Friday morning lady feel all organised now. Although trying on some of the non mat stuff to make sure it wasn't wearable wasn't too good for my self image Wink

Your weekend sounds lovely as does meds My friend asked about taking her own pool to our local hossie and was told she couldn't but they said it was because there wasn't enough room in the rooms. You never know!

Well, we dropped my mum off at my sisters and had a nice lunch in their local pub then left em too it, instead of meeting them at the airport today. MUCH less stressful all round really, Dad is still very down but at least I know he is much better than he would be if I wasn't here.

Can't believe we need a new Not list already. (or my place on it!)

Backinthebox · 20/02/2011 22:21

Anyone here who is feeling a little nervous about what is to come, have a quick look at the link on the other place to my IM's website. Should calm a few nerves!

CluckyKate · 21/02/2011 07:50

Wow - what a lot of wins on this thread!!!

Slight change for me....baby chick was born 18th Feb Grin

Terrific story Box, def worth a read for all imminent layers.

Gotta go - Jordanesque boobs need emptying.

LadyGoneGaga · 21/02/2011 08:14

Been up half the night with MiniG and a temp of 40.2 degrees Shock! Trying to get through to the Doctors. Apparently I am 24th in the queue Angry....3 minutes after the surgery opened.

His temp appears normal now as have dosed him with Calpol and Ibuprofen. But has a croupy type cough.

Also the heater broke in my car, so had to drive an hour to Oxford and an hour back to pick him up in freezing cold with a blanket on my knees like a granny. And the f*cking boiler in the house is on the blink - AGAIN!!! Trouble comes in threes, eh?

Sorry bout the me, me, me. On the plus side listened in to baybee's heartbeat this morning to cheer me up and s/he gave me a big kick which I could see from the outside

laurielou · 21/02/2011 08:21

Meds you had to do it, didn't you? You had to update the list & attepmt to nudge my sorry arse out of De Nile. Grin, Well, I'm not going anywhere

I feel a bit queazy this morning, so simply cannot comment on the nipples falling off stories.

On the whole issue of bra & cup sizeage, did you all manage to measure yourselves, or get professional? I've been going to Mothercare & M&S trying to get professional measure for a good few weeks. They never have any appointments at a good time. So I found instructions in differ book how to measure yourself. Simples. Except the 2 bras I bought are bloody awful. They feel a bit too tight around the body & my norks are just lost in the cups. Fecking nightmare.

We thinks we've seen the pram / travel system, or some such bollocks, that we're going to buy. We're going to see it in RL & test drive it this week. Pliz not to ask what type it is, I don't know. That was Mr Loz's project. All I know is its green! Also had a little sort out of spare room / nursery & planned what we need to buy. So in theory we're sorted. Just need to put it all into practice.

Drom how are you feeling this morning? Nicely relaxed & getting ready for lift off I hope.

Cocktail hour? Slippery Nipples all round Grin

laurielou · 21/02/2011 08:23

LadyG nice x-posts there on my behalf, sorry about that. Poor MiniG. Hope you get through to your GP soon - that sounds rubbish!

LadyGoneGaga · 21/02/2011 09:07

Thanks Loz. Going at 10o'clock. I think is a bit trial and error on differs bra's. And @I'm just wearing ones from last time that seem to fit ok. I like Bravissimo - a much better fitting service if you have one near you?

Exciting on pram. Find out what it is!

rocketleaf · 21/02/2011 09:08

Poor minigee :( hope the temp stays down and you can get him seen to quickly.

loz i just went and tried on various sizes until i found some that were comfortable and fit. Don't get measured at M&S they are useless, better off at Debenhams imo. But really just trying on is the best way and then check that the strap is going straight across your back, not lifting, if it is, you ned a smaller back size.

Great story boxy it sounds amazing and what a contrast to your first.

PerfectDromedary · 21/02/2011 09:09

Poor MiniG and poor GG. Have woken up a bit snotty and sore-throaty, which is not ideal - hoping that fuck-loads of orange juice and tea will sort everything out before Wednesday.

On which subject, weirdly I'm not finding stories of how birth is so much better managed at home than medicalised in hospital particularly reassuring or cheery atm.

Loz I have been too lazy to be measured for bras since about 30 weeks. I did go to proper bra shop to get sorted at that point, but haven't sorted nursing bras at all - hoping to survive with support vests for a bit until boobs settle down. This has NOT had a good effect on my cleavage, but is what happens when I get lazy...

milanomum · 21/02/2011 09:28

Morning!
LGG hope minigee is seen soon - poor wee thing!

As for nips falling off I have never heard of that before! I certainly didn't lose any bits with thechild and, apart form a few weeks of 'ouchyness', didn't have any pain at all. I posted a link once to a fucking great site kellymom.com which has loads of advice.

Drom if it helps any I had an amazing birth in a hospital. Absolutely amazing. I have great faith in modern medicine and believe that most doctors/midwives can actually do their job very well. Just ignore the fact that it wasn't in the UK Wink.

I haven't measured the buzzwams yet but am in old bras from 1st pregnancy, so I know they've definitely grown. I didn't get measured, but tried on about 50 bras before I found one that fit well and then I bought one a size bigger too (they'll just keep getting bigger...). It's probably a good idea to wait until your milk comes in before buying all your nursing bras - mine definitely doubled in size after giving birth. Quite scary really.

Casserole · 21/02/2011 09:32

You know what Drom ? I've heard many, many stories of women not getting the births they want, or getting them and regretting them....... APART FROM a planned, elective c/section. I have never ONCE heard a woman regretting one of those.

This is going to be one of the most precious weeks of your whole entire life. I promise. There will be hard bits, annoying bits, tired bits, sore bits. But there will be magical bits, and you are going to meet Berwhale at long last. After all the waiting, wanting, wishing, hoping, heartbreaking - THIS IS THE WEEK Grin

So, pliz to get yourself back into bed with vit C, zinc, echinachea, cake and a good book or boxset. Get yourself as fighting fit as you possibly can be, and rest up while you can. This is going to be a brilliant, awesome, lifechanging week for you. And yes, that IS my official, pseudo-medical opinion Wink

laurielou · 21/02/2011 09:37

LadyG Glad you finally managed to get through & book an appointment. Hope you all get sorted soon.

Thanks for the advice re boobage. Think I'll take more time & a shed load of bras into the dressing room.

Pre-diff I was measured in M&S, I'd forgotten, they were rubbish. I think we have a Bravissimo nearby, so may try that one.

I have a face on today. No real reason - do I need one? How am I going to last all day in the office? Wah!

laurielou · 21/02/2011 09:39

Cass lovely post. And every word absolutely spot on Smile. Ahhhh

PerfectDromedary · 21/02/2011 09:43

Aw, Cass, that just made me all weepy! Thank you, petal.

And Milano - also good news. Apart from the Italian bit, of course. Wink

kellymom is BRILLIANT. Can't believe how much quality free content lurks on t'internet at times. Am feeling quite reassured about bf'ing after Muse's amazing midwife story and hearing from a friend that the hospital has breastfeeding counsellors who come round every morning to help sort things out.

PollyPoo · 21/02/2011 09:49

Morning all, sorry for lack of radio silence. Have got bloody PND again. Been on the happy pills for a week and I'm finally starting to feel a bit better after some hideous side effects. It would not be exaggerating to say the last week has been hell. Sad Still, at least it got picked up quickly this time - Boo was 6 months old before it got picked up last time.

Anyway, just popping in to say good luck to Drom for Weds. How exciting! I hope you are feeling ok my darlin'. Big squeezes to you.

And I second the advice on breastfeeding - get the latch sorted early on and get as much help and advice as you need. It does make all the difference. Despite being told by various health professionals and breastfeeding support group that latch was fine I knew it wasn't as I found it incredibly painful and upsetting. I've now given up Sad and put BB on formula as I just couldn't take it any more and I'm sure it was a big contributing factor in the PND. In the end the HV (who has been a brilliant support to me) told me to give up if it was making me so upset - happy mum = happy baby and formula will not kill her. Of course now I am feeling guilt that I couldn't do it... Bah.

Anyway, ho hum. Must go and shower before BB wakes up again. Luff and chinese burns to all.

PerfectDromedary · 21/02/2011 09:52

Formula definitely won't kill her, Pol. Am sorry to hear that you've had a traumatic post-birthness, but glad that the pills are helping. Look after yourself, lovie.
