You mean they aren't??? Damn. That's why he never understands when I'm in a strop with him!

I'm sure we will have the chat. At the moment he's obviously brushing it under the carpet to avoid a big debate. But closer to the time he'll start to panic, and then he'll just blurt it out, and I'll have to reassure him. You're right, moomin, he did feel last time like there was nothing he could do to help when I was in labour. I've told him time and again that just having him there was what I needed, but I think he worried he was supposed to be making daft breathing faces with me, or trying to hypnotise me, or perhaps mixing some magic concoction of aromatherapy oils (none of which were in my birth plan, but you know how their minds clutch at any random straw they've heard about).

Do you know the biggest attraction of the MLU? They have a kitchenette next to the ward where mums and visiting partners can make cups of tea and help themselves to the biscuit tin. That, quite frankly, would be bliss, compared to the JR, where I had to send DP to hunt down someone, anyone, to bring me my meals!

Just marking my place - will try to catch up over the weekend. Enjoy your weekends, ladies!

moomin156 · 18/02/2011 18:29

Supersunny have you considered the babystyle oyster........seems to be much cheaper than the bugaboo and again appears quite light, folds pretty small with pushchair in place. Variety of colours too. They have just got it in our big mothercare too so you can look at it properly. Has a decent basket from what i have seen. Thats top of my list at the minute anyway.......my friend is having the bugaboo, apparantly fits in their little car easily :)

I made the mistake of eating dinner with DS tonight. Now I'm ruddy starving and I have no idea what to eat. Why has food become such a huge part of my life these days?

jasmine51 · 18/02/2011 20:10

Hi all
Back from the spa in one piece - attacked the salad bar with abandon although I did avoid some obvious things like mayo stuff, blue cheeses and some of the fish. Had a lovely head massage thing and knackered, the masseuse said 'gosh are you only 5 months, you look bigger than that'...no tip for her and lucky to avoid a bloody nose...and yes, that comment was before I'd eaten the salad bar!

Misshoohaa - answering your call for Baby Jogger City people = yup got the City Elite -did you get that or the Mini? Very pleased with mine - if I was a little person I would be happy to snuggle down in it.

Lisa I thought you might like to know that my DH has been the local paramedic responder covering your MLU for a few years. He has never been called on to deal with a 'during birth' emergency in that time. He has had to do several post birth transfers for bleeding and stuff but it is reassuring that complications during birth there seem to be very rare

Clarkiee · 18/02/2011 22:35

My DH is pretty handy but the air turns blue if anything starts to go wrong! He's been great at doing extra housework of late, long may it continue Wink

Glad you enjoyed your spa jasmine

I took a picture of my belly button with my phone (because its started coming out). Anyway when I looked at the picture my belly button looks like a BN biscuit or a smiley potato face Grin erm.... kind of hard to explain but you'll have to take my word for it.

jasmine51 · 19/02/2011 08:55

Clarkiee Grin at your belly button. Not thinking too much about how you can take a photo of your own belly button though. Mine is still a deep abyss..

Lisa forgot to say - yes the kitchen at the MLU is a big appeal. I was there a few weeks ago for a physio apt and discovered the cafe bit...the ladies in the kitchen gave me some free chips because they had made too many...lovin those ladies!

Weather is blurgghh today, means staying in and doing house work Sad

DaisyFields · 19/02/2011 16:02

First day in maternity jeans today - they look awful but heavens above, they're comfy!

My mum told me I had a big bump for 22 weeks. Thanks mum. I can still fit into my normal jeans and met someone with a due date a week before me who was twice my size. Mum's they always know what to say.

Has anyone bought an Oyster? I am trying to be a good girl and stick with my First Wheels. Not sure the Oyster goes with the maxi-cosi car seat I am not parting with.

moomin156 · 20/02/2011 10:48

Hi Halle we are definitely going to get the oyster and the maxicosi pebble or britax SHR? fits........we went to mothercare yesterday but ended up at the hospital yet again but this time as i had bleed. Fresh blood........spent 4 hrs at the hospital and all ok. No evidence of problems, cervix still closed. Just need to rest.......so another day off sick for me today
Think this week i am being punished for the easy ride i have had so far.........so if i was stressed last week, my stress levels are now twice as high. Trying very hard to be calm as all stopped now and baby moving, cramoing gone. All good positve signs.......:)

Moomin sounds scary - I hope it is all resolved soon. [Passes over a glass of non-alcoholic Wine

jasmine51 · 20/02/2011 12:19

Sorry to hear about your stressful day moomin. Its horrible when that happens - take it easy. Is anyone else getting crampy episodes, with or without bleeding? I had quite a crampy day yesterday which send me knicker checking several times before retiring to bed. I cant find any mention of ongoing cramps on the usual websites so was going to ask the MW on Weds - anyone else?

I like the buggy chat. I've been playing with mine and I have a question - with a buggy that reclines fully so is suitable for newborns, what do you put the baby in, on, and cover it with? You cant just lay it in the buggy with no covering and surely you need a head support too? Sorry if I'm being naive but I havent made a habit of cooing at other peoples babies so I've not noticed what is going on in there!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 20/02/2011 13:02

Jasmine - glad you enjoyed the spa!!
WRT to buggy, you may well put the baby in a pram suit, or you could just tuck a blanket around the baby.

Moomin - sorry you have had such a stressful day, glad baby is okay!

I have had to buy 2 more maternity bras and a support band! Went to Bluewater Shopping centre. Walking around made my back and stomach msucles ache!! Only thing is I don't the support band will fit me for very long, and it was the large size!

Clarkiee · 20/02/2011 13:22

The belly button isn't out just yet but give it a few more weeks. I am all bump- don't feel like I've put weight on anywhere else just a bump.

I've got a wide range of maternity wear now Blush. Always told myself that I wouldn't buy loads of clothes when I was pregnant but hey I like buying clothes Wink. I think the combination of having a long torso anyway and having twins means I've been limited with my regular clothes and I've been in mainly mat wear for a while now. Still find that I have to try them on though- they say get your normal size but the clothes are often too big.

Went to aquanatal today and I was the only one Confused ah well a personal aquanatal training session for me!

kara do you think its worth getting a support band? Might look into getting one in the next few weeks- ready for when I am huge!

8rubberduckies · 20/02/2011 13:52

Kara my chiropractor gave me a support band, which is really helping me, but it is also already groaning and won't fit me for much longer. She also said it is the biggest size (they are too small for loads of pregnant women apparently), and she is going to try and find an extra big one. I'll let you know where it's from if she does.

Sorry to hear about your bleeding Moomin, take it easy Smile.

Jasmine the sheepsking inserts are lovely, keep baby cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Am definitely going to get one.

I am very chuffed as my Mum has offered to buy a brand-new spanking buggy (ours is a bit ropy but servicable). We're going to go for a forward facing one, think she's thinking of a Quinny Buzz (Shock at price), but hey, that's what doting Grandparents are for...

We also found out yesterday we have reached the top of the waiting list for an allotment Smile. Our house backs onto them and we've managed to bag a really nice site with not too much clearing to be done, which we will be sharing with two friends. Really bad timing, I won't be able to help prep the ground and get rid of brambles etc due to my back Wink and will have to just watch Grin. Looking forward to taking baby down there for some sunshine this summer Smile.

crumbletastic · 20/02/2011 14:55

Wow, I've had no interent access for a week due to moving house and there is so much to catch up on! Congrats to those with recent scans, and take it easy moomin. I had bleeds up until 34 weeks last pregnancy and even though there was never anything wrong I'm aware how scary and stressful it can be.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 20/02/2011 14:57

8rubberduckies - thanks. You know you would think that bigger women would have more need of them Hmm
Yey for your allotment! You can do the most important job of supervision Wink

motherofsnortpigs · 20/02/2011 18:10

jasmine if with the cramping feeling your bump goes hard, it could well be braxton-hicks contractions. Nothing to worry about :)

jasmine51 · 20/02/2011 19:27

mother I have been checking and generally it doesnt but will keep monitoring.

Got visitors here and I've just escaped upstairs for a while...if they dont go home soon I'm going to eat my sofa...sooooo hungry
