Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Florin · 09/11/2011 21:45

Feeling a lot better thanks flick dh suggested a drink out at the pub (tonic water for me) then we went out for dinner and I had a teeny bit of red wine (like the amount that is poured to taste it) it was lovely evening talked about the baby lots and really perked me up.
I haven't been sick yet just been close to it, however I have an extremely strong stomach, only been sick a handful of times in my life. In someways I think it would be better if I was sick!
The 4 -6 weeks went really slowly for me too Flick every hour seemed to drag. Now it is speeding up a bit. Very jealous of your 12 week scan appointment I haven't got mine yet, got midwife on Tueday so hopefully will get appointment date then.
Lanky happy Birthday hope you are being really spoilt!

On Friday we are out to dinner at the Cinnamon club in London along with 3 of dh's colleagues and wives. Bit worried how I am going to get through it as its the tasting menu and with the sickness I am quite fussy about food (normally I eat everything!) luckily they know I am pregnant so don't have to hide it which makes it much easier. However one of the other couples is having major fertility problems so need to be sensitive to that. At least I don't need to worry about getting myself drunk and embarrassing myself!
My cure for sickness at the moment is chocolate makes me feel so much better. My saviour is chocolate buttons as I can keep a packet in my coat pocket and suck on one when I feel queezy!

Flickstar · 09/11/2011 21:50

Glad to hear you are feeling better and also glad to hear that things speed up around 8 weeks! I know you will be super sensitive towards your friends on Friday. We all know how horrid it is to feel like it's never going to happen so I know that you will handle things in exactly the right way and make your friend feel ok. I hope you'll be feeling less queasy on FRiday and can enjoy your yummy meal!

LankyLegs · 10/11/2011 10:56

Hello lovely ones...

Florin I totally feel for you - I hope the sickness doesn't last too long. Mine went from 6 weeks to 17... but remember everyone is different. The good thing I found about that phase (well not sure it is good) was that the sickness made me focus on just getting through the day and coping with the small things like trying to get to work on the train, lunch and getting home... and before you know it it will be your 12 week scan and things will start to look better. Good luck at the Cinnamon club tomorrow - take it easy, lots of water and head to the loo if you need deep breaths and a break.

Late very exciting news about flat selling and house buying... lovely thing to focus on! Take my advice.... rent somewhere if you are between houses for a while! Agree - Frankie was an idiot! I have stopped watching x-factor since the audition phase - live shows have been awful! I also think it's

Flick - fantastic that you have a milestone in the diary for the scan... a bit annoying that it isn't until a few days after xmas - would have been lovely to have presented that little scan picture in a card to your parents! You could see if they bring it forward a few days? They are normally choca block so get changes in as soon as. How are you feeling? Still shell shocked or is it starting to settle in?

Thank you for your birthday messages! I had a lovely day - was treated to lunch at Hibiscus in London by MrLanky and then a spot of shopping and pottering. Got myself some very cool looking gold converse trainers for when I am going to be out and about with the baby! I have started to calm down a bit about the in-laws, although I had a bit of a panic attack on Tuesday night at the thought of having to go home and seeing them and all their chaos! They dropped a bombshell and have decided to stay yet another week to sort themselves out and I had to try really hard not to cry in front of them! These fringing hormones are a nightmare!!!! I have been so measured and with it up until now... I think the third trimester has a lot to blame for this....

How is everyone else?

Truffkin · 10/11/2011 13:31

Afternoon all.

Lanky sounds like a wonderful birthday and well done Mr Lanky for the treats. Sorry you are feeling so hormonal as well, I've been like that this week and as I'm normally very controlled it has felt so strange and not comfortable at all. I think the cabin fever of being home alone every day is getting to me and practically pounce on MrT when he gets home from work as I'm so excited to have company!

Late my in laws offered for us to move in if we found ourselves between homes over Christmas. We own a flat in Birmingham but it's really too small for what we will need now and we have a good tenant in there so we're leaving it be for the time being. We've decided to rent for a while as trying to buy long distance feels too much like hard work. I'm really pleased we decided this now as this week I feel like there is a bit too much going on for me to be trying to manage so close to my due date. My car is due to be collected by VW as the personal contract plan is at an end and I'm not buying it, but the inspection yesterday resulted in them highlighting £900 worth of 'things' they want me to pay for. Some of them are really silly like a tiny chip in the windscreen and a small hole worn in the carpet where my foot rests when it's on the clutch or little scuffs to the alloy wheels. This is a 3-year old car, so surely normal wear? I've had the windscreen done for free this morning and am shopping around to find quotes for the other bits and pieces as their prices were just so unrealistic. Not a recipe for relaxing maternity leave!

Florin I really feel for you with the sickness, it is so hard to get used to it and carry on with your normal routine. I had hyperemesis for the first 6 months and no medication worked to control it. I did manage to just 'fit it in' to my normal daily life, which sounds so strange now I think about it Confused If it's any consolation, I still consider that I've had a good pregnancy as I've had no other side effects a all (swelling, headaches, stretch marks etc) and my weight gain has been minimal so less work to do once baby is here! I hope it doesn't ruin your meal tomorrow night.

Flick exciting that you have a date for your scan! I'm with Lanky in seeing if you can call up and bring it forward by a few days. I had to change the first 12 week scan date we were given due to work commitments and we managed to get a Saturday appointment. What hospital are you referred to? I'm not sure which part of London you are in or whether you had a choice of providers.

I've decided to book myself a reflexology session in an attempt to find my chill again! Doing a search, I have found a lady who works from home and lives on the same road as me - what are the chances? I figure it's a sign and I'm definitely meant to have this as a treat. I was planning to book in for a pedicure as well but am not sure if I can be bothered with trekking back down the high street in flip flops now the weather is a bit rubbish. I might just do my own so at least I get the benefit of looking at nice smart nails!

Right, enough waffle from me, it's Thursday so only one more day until the weekend is here. My brother and his girlfriend are coming to stay tomorrow and we are meeting up with my Dad (+ step Mom and 2 sisters) on Saturday for dinner so I will be nicely distracted for the weekend. We are also having a tour of the birth centre on Saturday morning, which I am really looking forward to. I think it will help me to be able to visualise where I'll (hopefully) be giving birth. They don't normally do tours now (there is an online virtual tour) but a work-colleague's sister runs the birth centre and we are receiving special treatment Wink

Flickstar · 11/11/2011 09:22

Hello lovelies,

How are you all doing on this grim day?!

Sorry to hear there have been hormones causing disruption elsewhere lanky and truff I will be a wreck if I am this bad in the first trimester!

One week to go truff! Did you get along to your reflexology in the end? Or is it booked for later on in the week? I hope you're feeling a little more chilled today and ready for your busy weekend.

Your birthday sounds lovely lanky! Glad you were spoilt as you deserve. GRRRr about the in laws :( deep breaths and keep looking at your trainers when you need to be perked up!

How are you feeling florin? Hope you're ok and looking forward to your meal tonight.

Good plan about moving into rented accommodation late I'm sure your flat will be sold in no time at all. We have told Mr.Flick's parents but not mine as they can't be trusted not to blab! Have you seen what they are planning for x factor this weekend?! I am enjoying it but I think it is a little gimmicky this year.

Thanks so much lanky and truff for advising me to phone up and change my scan! I called this morning and have now got an appointment for 9am on 22nd Dec so just before Christmas! I might save telling my parents until then. I have also booked an early scan for when I will be around 8 weeks as I just can't wait until December. The early scan is two weeks on Sunday, the 27th November so I really hope these next two weeks will fly by.

In other news, we have bought a house! It's all been a bit of a whirlwind since getting my BFP last Thursday night. We saw the flat on Tuesday and put an offer in on Wednesday and it was accepted yesterday. It is chain free so who knows how quickly it will go?! truff I am currently in SE London so have registered with Kings but if all goes to plan with the move I will be able to transfer to St. Thomas' which I'm pleased about.

Have parent teacher conferences all day today- hope it speeds by!

MrsWajs · 11/11/2011 10:47

Sorry guys this thread fell off of my list as I have been neglecting MN for a few weeks! But I just wanted to pop in and say congratulations to Flick Grin I'm soo happy for you! And yay for the house too!

Congrats too, to Gold on baby Emily. Enjoy this newborn bit as it goes by far too quickly!

Can't believe my little bab is almost 7 months already!! Shock Am trying to persuade DP already on a bit of second time frolicking but he's having none of it!!

LateToThisBabyMalarky · 12/11/2011 08:09

Hello ladies, I had a lovely day yesterday, I had a follow-up scan (because of the ma-hoo-sive bleed last Friday), and it was the most stress-free scan I've had so far, actually really enjoyed it! Grin It's just amazing to see the growth progression - I now have quite an album of scan pics from 7+4, 9 and 10 weeks. Yesterday the bean was wiggling around, it waved at me and then flipped over. I had a little bit of concern that the bleed may have affected the growth, but it's still keeping to the schedule Smile

How exciting about your new flat Flick, a lovely new nest for you to start feathering Wink. And great that you've got a scan in for before Xmas, at 8 weeks you will see it's flickering little heart!

Have good weekends all!

pixiestix · 12/11/2011 11:54

Thats such great news Late!!! Smile Smile I'm so pleased for you Smile Its about time you were allowed to relax a little bit and enjoy this pregnancy. Hopefully that is the last of the drama for you and your LO.

Fab that you have got a pre-Christmas scan date Flick. Wasn't it you who started the thread for Frolickers who wanted to be 12 weeks by last Christmas?? You got your Christmas present after all!!
Wow about the speedy house purchase. Are you already planning the nursery in your head? I would be! Grin

How are you doing today Truff? The car business sounds mega stressful and not at all what you need at this stage. Hope the reflexology worked to calm you down. Just a random thought but don't be disappointed if they strip off your smart nail polish when labour starts - I wasn't allowed any nail varnish in my labour as looking at your nails is one of the ways they check your blood flow is ok.

Belated birthday wishes Lanky. Your in-laws sound like a nightmare.

goldmaple · 12/11/2011 18:38

lanky happy belated birthday!!

late glad that everything is okay with your bean! Getting very close to the 12/13 week mark, the 2nd trimester is much better (I thought -- and I know the worry won't go away but I hope you can rest a bit easier)

truff hope your little one makes an appearance soon. Newborn snuggles are so sweet! But get as much rest as possible right now! Send you quick and painless labour vibes:)

Birth story:

Woke up at 1:20am Oct 30th for a routine bathroom visit and lost my mucous plug. Started having contractions every 5 minutes, but at 7:30am they started getting further apart, 7 mins, 10 mins, 12 mins and then kind of stopped. It seemed like I was having false labour so DH and I decided to go back to bed. I had a good cry because I was so disappointed and then tried to sleep. Of course as soon as I laid down I had four contractions in a row (4 mins apart) and on the last one my waters broke.

I was gushing everywhere, and we went to the hospital where they told me I was 2 cm dilated. The contractions were coming every 2.5-3 mins and lasting for 1 min so they told me to walk around as they couldn't admit me until 4cm. An hour and a half later they checked again and I was 4 cm and was admitted (at 12:30).

I used gas and fentanol (a narcotic) which took the edge off, but the shower was really the best thing!! I stayed in there for a long time. The rest is kind of a blur but what happened is Emily was sideways in my pelvis and pushing on my cervix. I was 10 cm dilated by ~7:00ish except for the area she was resting on which was 8cm. They wouldn't let me push because they were worried she would make my cervix swell and then everything would go down hill. So for 2 hours I had to resist the urge to push and get in awkward positions to try and shift her. I couldn't have any pain relief because I wasn't in pain, just needed to push!! (Not sure if that makes sense). Finally I was allowed to push and after 1 hour she came out screaming (back to back) with a huge cone head!! Was the most incredible feeling in the world when her head came out. Only needed 3 stitches! Was about 8 hours from active labour to birth so I'm now very happy with how things went!

Florin · 14/11/2011 08:13

I had a lovely meal out of Friday and luckily my sickness was really good that day so it was really enjoyable. Sickness came back with full force on Saturday which to be honest I was quite relieved about as I worry when I don't feel awful!
Went over to my parents for family dinner and to tell my twin sister and her dh that we were pregnant. They then announced they were too and could be as little as 1 week between us (she is not sure of her dates)
My dh is a bit upset about it. Being twins there has always been serious competition between my sister and I and he doesn't want that to happen about pregnancy too. It didn't help that my dad said oh we will wait to announce Florin's pregnant so we can announce both together. Have to admit after always feeling I have had to share everything I was hoping this was something we would do at least a bit separately. I am more worried also that the babies will always be compared -who walks first etc. I hated the pressure of growing up as a twin and dh and I were so relieved not to be having twins. We now feel the baby will still have this pressure if sisters baby is so close in age.
Sister is a bit of a drama queen so everything will be worse for her. They had only been trying for 4 months including taking a break for a month. She went on about how hard it was trying for that long. We said it is hard it took us a long time she didn't even listen when we said it took 20 months, she has no idea what we went through and not interested to listen. Sorry to moan!
Hope everyone else ok and had a good weekend!

bunnygirl80 · 14/11/2011 09:46

late that's great news

gold that's a lovely birth story. Well done for resisting the urge to push for 2hrs. I think I managed to resist for about 2 contractions (and not because I was meant to, I just decided I would poo myself if I pushed so best to keep William in forever Grin) Come join us on the postgrads when you get chance

florin glad you had a lovely meal. Sorry your twin sounds so self-centred, I'm Angry on your behalf over her comments. Try not to let her and her dramas get you down, and I'm sure it will be lovely for your baby to have a cousin so close in age. And of course, there's no need to worry about competition as your baby will clearly be the most advanced Wink

LankyLegs · 14/11/2011 11:39

Hello you lot!

Late what fantastic news! Must have been so lovely and reassuring to see the little one moving around so much! And pleased you have some good scan pictures to add to the collection too! So sooo deserve a bit of piece of mind with everything that has happened over the last few weeks.

Truff any movement from you? Hope you had a nice weekend with your family over and it made up for the queit week - I can imagine you do just want to pounce on any adult when you see them for conversation. There is only so much 'pottering' you can do at home. Keep us posted on your news! Also - hope you managed to get your car business sorted.

Flick congratulations on the house - how bloody exciting... things seem to be coming together rather nicely at the moment Wink Are you staying in the same area or moving SW by the sounds of it if you will be under Tommy's. They are a good hospital - had my laparoscopy and investigations there. Well done about getting your scan moved - what a lovely way to head into Xmas. I too like you caved and had a private scan at 9 weeks. It really helped with the coping with the worry and not knowing so good money spent in my view. And it is so much nicer to have another milestone in early on.

Pixie thanks for the birthday wishes!

Florin sounds like you got to enjoy your dinner! What are the chances hey that your twin sister is pregnant at the same time hey?! I'm sorry that you will have to share the limelight with her - I can imagine what it was like growing up. I think you just have to focus on it being something so special that you and your DH are sharing and take lots of your enjoyment from that.....

Gold thanks for sharing your birth story - pleased it was pretty 'straight forward' (if that is possible and ignore me as I am still very ignorant about the birth stage!) well done for getting through it and only 3 stitches too!! Hope lovely Emily Grace is doing well!

Hope everyone else is well.

Not much news from me other than my in-laws are planning to be with us another week - joy. As a result I am shattered as I ended up planning on doing loads at the weekend as DH was busy and the thought of being in the house with them was stressing me out. Knackered now but have got lots of xmas shopping done - its bloody hard work shopping with a big bump and over enthusiastic sisters that want to be out ALL day. Hey ho.

Getting loads of painful kicks now - think the little sprog is starting to become a bit cramped in the space available! Also staring to freak out about child birth - all the books seem to now be honing in on it so I am ignoring the chapters in the third trimester Grin la la la I am not listening!

We also neeed a new thread! Any ideas ladies....

Florin · 14/11/2011 22:41

Oh lanky you poor thing having the inlaws for another week-I really feel for you!
Just found out my sister is on baby centre so at least I can have mumsnet as my little private space. Did pop over and have a look at baby centre and definitely prefer mumsnet. Don't like their silly pictures and sign off signature bits.
I have midwife tomorrow for my booking in appointment-any tips anybody?

LankyLegs · 15/11/2011 08:34

florin yes babycentre's chat is crap! Stick to mm! Booking in appt can be over an hour and they ask lots of family historical health questions so check out anything from Mr Florin's side as they may want to include that in your notes. Other than that its quite nice as it makes the pregnancy feel a bit more real as they start to book you in for scans and future appts etc. It can be long though! Hope it goes well!

womanlytales · 15/11/2011 09:13

Wave to everyone. Lanky How about you starting a new thread for us?
florin It is quite difficult to have a self-centered sister and to be pregnant at the same time - just do not understand your Dad's comment.. why wd u want to combine announcements when you can celebrate twice? lanky does say it aptly - you focus on your little one and hopefully will not have the time or space to dwell on any competition between the two.
gold thank you for sharing your birth story - glad it went well for you :)
hello to mrswajs

LankyLegs · 15/11/2011 12:29

*Womanly lovely to hear from you - how are things going? Well I hope xxx

I have just popped the stats back here in case anyone wants to them before we have to start a new thread....

Any chance whoever updates the stats for the new page you can update mine to 14 October for my BFP and my due date is now 22 June 2012

I had the midwife today good to feel I am in the system and to get my pregnancy notes. Got my 20 week scan date, got to wait for a letter from the hospital for my 12 week scan as having the fold measuring thing.
Really fancied pizza tonight had one slice and nearly threw it up so just had some salad instead and a million tangerines (which are apparently high in folic acid) at the moment I just can't get enough of them.
Dh has now lit a fire so curled up in front of that with a good film on.
Hope everyone having a lovely evening

Truffkin · 15/11/2011 21:48

Sounds lovely Florin I'm a big fan of cosy nights in when it's cold outside.

I'm on my phone so can't post properly but could the new fred show my EDD as 18th November rather than 8th? I think the 1 must have got lost somewhere and I'm impatient enough without making my due date earlier Grin
