Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
crazydayz · 08/02/2011 17:58

Cherry Welwyn is about 10mins from me! Do you live near there - if so then join me and CrazyB for a meet up when mat leave starts? I'm completely with you on the variability of movement felt from day to day. Even though I have 2 inside me they sometimes have a quiet day and make me panic - it seems to be that the busier I am the less I feel them! Glad you got checked out and all was ok Smile!

CrazyB I start mat leave/ hol on 11th March so anytime after that is good to meet up. I'm sure the boxes will all unpack themselves in no time Wink!

Kurly the BF workshop sounds fab - I'm still trying to work out how I'll manage to feed 2 at once!

Big wave to everyone else! I feel like I'm counting down the days until I finish work but that it's going quite quickly - 4 weeks on Friday Grin!

Also I might post a bump picture at some point just to give you all a good laugh especially as the work uniform I ordered towards the start of the pregnancy (we joked at the time that several of us could fit in it!) is now starting to feel a little tight - fingers crossed it last me through the coming weeks!

highheelsandequations · 08/02/2011 20:20

pixie, cherry and crazyb thanks for the bump compliments :) I have to admit, I'm loving the pregnant look :) May even be starting to lose the dark circles and dare I even say glow?!? Although I feel full of the cold just now, which is sapping my energy again.

mumnerves sounds like you're leading the life I'm looking forward to just now, hope you're enjoying the swimming and stuff.

crazyb we still have boxes lying about from moving here July 2009! Not sure if we'll ever have the house ready for pip's arrival. Nearly cried when I read about Amanda Holden, so sad :(

cherry I'm considering going for a nursery appointment at JL as I feel so disorganised! Just don't seem to have the time to plan for pip on top of the usual work, housework, finishing the decorating etc. Glad you got checked out and all's okay with your LO, there's nothing worse than worrying and once you start it's difficult to put your mind at rest.

kurly glad you found your BF workshop interesting. Sorry the school holidays are not working with you, it can be a pain sometimes! I'm probably going to have to go on ML a week or so before the summer holidays, wish I could work till the end of term so I could start ML at the end of the summer and get an extra 6 weeks pay but don't think I'll manage to last till then.

pixie :o at Tegan licking people's jumpers!

crazyd you should definitely post a bump pic.

Well I've had an annoying evening. Stayed too late at work so missed my pilates class. Then was late leaving for book club and got there too late (it's in our library and they lock up before it starts). Add those to the fact that it's nonstop at work just now with prelims just finished and reports due in a week or so then more reports due every couple of weeks after that as well as the usual planning, marking and trying to stay vaguely organised. Feeling a bit snowed under and fed up with it all.

On a more positive note, I'm starting to think I'm maybe feeling pip move. Although I'm not 100% convinced yet. When did everyone know for sure that they were feeling their baby move and not just weird tummy things? And how did you know for sure?!?

haloflo · 08/02/2011 20:44

aly Wow, what a story. Now I'm getting closer I'm started to worry about the birth & about the pain. It sounds like you coped really well and to hear you say it's worth it makes me feel less scared. Don't worry about weight loss, you looked amazing at 38 weeks and I'm sure you will be back into shape soon even with a few treats (and as a new mummy you defiantly deserve some treats!) I hope things are continuing to go well for you and your DS. I echo the request for photos!

highheels Am loving your bump! I hope you are starting to enjoy your pregnancy now and are starting to build your wardrobe for the months to come. I also cannot believe I'm nearly on ML but I really can't wait now! For what it's worth I still felt tired about 16/17 weeks but slowly and surely I got my energy back..shame it's starting to disappear now. By the way if you have any questions you can always ask the frolickers (or MN) I have to say that this thread and MN in general have given me so much more information than any of the MW's I've seen.

If you are feeling anything new and weird then it's likely to be movement! Mine felt like tickles and popping at first but I wasn't sure for ages. Thinking about it now, I'm sure it was LO.

roundtable No advice about palpitations but I would go back to (another) doctor if they continue. I hope the nausea/sickness/sore boobs aren't too bad. I hope you get to see the MW soon.

slowshow I had to call the surgery direct to get an appointment so maybe (if you haven't already) give them a call asap. I didn't have a proper "booking" appointment (where they went through my history, took blood, explained what to expect) until after my scan but I did have a quick appointment with the MW at 9 weeks where she booked my scan. Everyone's area seems different so it's hard to compare. I hope you get in soon.

cherry I hope you are currently being kicked HARD by your LO. That must have been really scary, worrying about movement. Roll on your growth scan. After 30 weeks I feel LO much more often and much more firmly. Hopefully your movement will step up a bit soon too. Did you buy anything from M&P? It's such a nice shop if you find yourself passing by...

pixie I've gone slightly mad on eBay buying newborn clothes but decided I wouldn't want to wash everything all the time if LO is on the big side. If my LO is on the small side like yours at least I'll be prepared. Hope things are continuing to go well for you and Tegan.

mumsnerves Ooh thanks for the eBay link. Glad to hear Sean is doing well. I can't believe he's out of newborn clothes already!

crazyb Hope the 28 week appointment goes well, be warned about your blood taking a while to come out. Unless that was just kurly and I. Also great news about the pay.

kurly I think I am going work out what kind of mummy I want to be a day at a time. What you do a couple of weeks may well be different from 12 weeks etc. My AN classes are still a bit socially awkward too (I get really shy when I'm there). Oh well, 2 down, 2 to go - still time to make friends. I have the bf workshop after that too.

crazyd I would love to see your bump!

Not much new from me but I've posted a new bump pic too (i couldn't be left out!). My last was at 24 weeks, this one 34. What a difference!

My current project is to pack my hospital bag. So far I've put a few things in a carrier bag but I would like to have my basic bag ready for 35 weeks. Any top tips about what to take which aren't on the usual lists would be gratefully received.

cherrycobbler · 09/02/2011 17:17

pixie, also loved the idea of teg's little tongue licking people's jumpers to announce she's hungry!

crazyd, I am about 30 mins from welwyn - would love to join the meet up if that works out (tho only start ML on 18 April - you may be popped by then!) - will PM you and crazyb.

halo didn't buy anything from mamas and papas in the end, all looked so nice! I seem to have a bit of a mental block on buying things, keep looking and noting down stuff but just haven't bought yet. My latest excuse is that we may find out the flavour at the growth scan next week so may delay buying anything till then just in case we do find out... Loved your bump pic, can't believe what a difference there is between 24 and 34! Guess all the baby is doing now is growing... :)
Will be checking out any responses to your hospital bag question!

i was also very very :( about amanda holden. I just can't imagine what she must be going through. Think that was part of what prompted me to finally call the m/w to check out LO's quiet period (he has been very well behaved today and kicking me lots - hooray!)

OP posts:
mumnerves · 09/02/2011 17:32

haloflo my one thing I was so pleased to have was lipbalm as my lips were really sore from G&A. Also made a 'last minute' list so just before going you can grab everything on that list or little things to make sure you do like I had 'leave dog with food' so DH wouldn't forget :o

mumnerves · 09/02/2011 17:34

HH It's the loveliest feeling and doesn't coincide with any sort of bowel movements! I think if you think it is it probably is iyswim :)

Big wave to everyone!

Hermya321 · 09/02/2011 22:13

Halo Have you finished work now? As for hospital bag we found that disposable changing mats were a godsend. DS was quite mucusay when he was born and kept getting it everywhere. Also leave a couple of spare babygrows and a spare blanket out where your DH can easily find them just in case you stay in longer or find that you go through them really quickly.

MrsWajs · 09/02/2011 23:46

Hi guys!! :)

Just thought I better let you know I haven't fallen off the face of the planet!! Internet has been down and when I have got it working laptop has been playing up - sticky keys - AGAIN!! So have tried to post but given up through frustration before I get very far!!
Am back on nightshift now for the last stretch of work before ML begins so will be able to keep up more regularly!

So how is everyone?? HH Your bump is tiny!! Also didn't realise you were in Fife!? My best friend lives near Anstruther!

Halo Love your new bump picture too :), I think I'm on a par with you for bump size (well relative to gestation, there might be a slight issue if I was measuring 34 weeks at 29!!) I do have new pictures to put on but they are on DPs phone so haven't had a chance to get them on to the laptop.

slowshow & roundtable hope things are going well for you two!!

Cherry Hope everythings ok now? I had a quiet spell a few weeks back, nothing I was doing was making babyWajs move and it was a bit disconcerting but she was fine after a couple of days, in hindsight I probably should have gone into to be monitored but I didn't want to be a pest. I think in future though I would, the midwife wasn't too pleased when I said I had been worrying at home!

28 week check went well, was measuring 29 weeks then which is probably more down to food than baby - although I'm not sure that's actually possible! Fingers crossed for not measuring any bigger at 32 weeks!! Although having baby a little bit early would be a bonus - I keep thinking back to my original date being 10th April and wondering if I'd be so lucky!!

Anyway I know I've missed a few of you out but I have lots of reading to catch up on!!

Big waves to you all :)

cherrycobbler · 11/02/2011 18:22

hello mrsw! glad check went well, hope your final stretch before ML is not too bad. I really struggled with the not being a pest thing and apologised about a hundred times to the m/w for wasting her time after I went in and everything was fine - the message I got was go in and get checked out, they'd much rather they checked out 400 women who were fine than have anyone fretting at home in silence.

just a quick one to say that I just noticed this Brew and needed to use it! Also like the new Wine - am still enjoying the odd glass but looking forward to just relaxing with a proper bottle glass of lovely wine and some nice bloody steak in about three months time...

have lovely weekends all xx

ps flo, did you ever sort out that random pain you had in your, er, posterior? Now my carpal tunnel is not too bad with the use of sexy nighttime wrist supports, my body has decided to keep itself amused by giving me funny jabby pains in my bottom. Not too bad and it comes and goes but I vaguely remember you asking about it a while ago...

OP posts:
haloflo · 13/02/2011 15:39

Afternoon all, very quiet this weekend. Hope that means everyone is well and enjoying themselves. We are having a weekend of getting sorted and now have a freshly painted living room and shiny new (working!) dishwasher.

cherry I got my pram at 28 weeks but all the other shopping only really started about 2/3 weeks ago. Admittedly I spent a long time browsing prior to this but only once I bought one thing did suddenly everything get bought! Which day is the growth scan? How many weeks will you be for it? I hope you are feeling positive about it, scans are a bit scary. I hope you do get to find out the flavour though, that will be very exciting.

About the pain, I had nearly forgotten about that. I had sciatica which started about week 9, peaked about week 14 and went about week 15. At the time I put the healing down to microwave heat bags and paracetamol. In retrospective it might have just run its course after a few weeks. I did get referred for some maternity physio which came through within a couple of weeks. Fortunately I was better by then so I cancelled it. I hope it's not too bad and ring your MW specially if it gets worse so you can get physio o sooner rather than later.

mrsw Good to hear from you. Glad the bump is growing well. How long til ML? Am I right in thinking we are finishing at similar times?

mumsnerves Lipbalm will be going in, thank you.

hermya A week and 2 days til ML! It's so weird to think I'll be finishing work. I never considered how I would change the LO in hospital. Will grab some disposable mats from Boots next week. Thank you. Good idea about leaving things out for DP. He never knows where I put anything even when I tell him.

crazybutterflylady · 14/02/2011 08:44

Morning all

Not much to report here (other than the arrival of heartburn and acid reflux :( oh joy) but wanted to say halo I am 'watching' this thread and will use it to help pack my hospital bag... there's another one too, I'll see if I can find it...
x

cherrycobbler · 14/02/2011 11:17

boo re reflux and heartburn crazy, horrid. An excuse to have milkshake for breakfast?!

Thanks for the sciatica info halo and for the thread link crazy - I have had a look and am starting to write down a list!

OP posts:
haloflo · 14/02/2011 20:56

crazy Ooh thanks for that link. I particually like the idea of lemon barley squash.

cherry No problem, I hope you feel better soon.

I realise I said last week I was going to pack my hospital bag but everything I have so far is still in a carrier bag waiting to be packed. It almost seems a bit pointless until I get nursing bras & nightwear which I plan on getting late next week when on ML. I also need to buy the food & drink. (Mental note to add the items to this weekends shopping trip.) I'm not sure when simple tasks started to take weeks but I guess its a sign of things to come!

haloflo · 14/02/2011 20:59

Oh and crazy I've been lucky and not had too much heartburn but others I know have got gaviscon on perscription - don't be paying out for what you can get for free! Aparantly the old wives tale about heartburn is that if you get your baby will have a good head of hair on it when its born. Let us know when the LO is here if its true.

bunnygirl80 · 14/02/2011 23:21

halo my only advice re hospital bag is get the thing packed Grin I was super organised about everything else in my pg, but this was the one thing I neglected. I went for a plan of just chucking in random things as and when I could be bothered on the assumption that first labours are long, and I'd have several hours at home before heading to hospital when I could make sure I had everything.

As it was, I was sent straight from my docs appt to the hospital even though I wasn't really in active labour due to suspected pre-eclampsia, so we ended up with one very disorganised half packed bag. My labour progressed so fast in the end that I didn't even get chance to unpack the things I needed during labour. Poor DH ended up rummaging around in there to find things that I demanded needed between contractions.

That said if you do forget anything, your DP can always bring it in for you once baby has arrived.

The things I found most useful were:
A pair of comfy yoga pants - wore them during labour and they were nice and loose for afterwards when you don't want anything remotely tight near your battered and bruised bits Grin

Make up - call me vain but I felt so much better with a bit of concealer etc on, and I do look fab in all my post birth photos Smile

Fruit - all hospitals the world over like to put the veg for your meals on to boil at least a month before it's served, so you need something with vitamins left in!

Things I should have left at home:
Bikini - took it to wear in the bath, but TBH by the time I got around to getting in I no longer cared who saw me naked!

A selection of 5 (yes 5!) going home outfits for William - I should have just laid them out at home and got DH to bring one in

No news from me really - William is still super cute and he's started blowing raspberries at anyone who looks his way Smile

highheelsandequations · 15/02/2011 17:13

Hi everyone. Hope you all had fab weekends and romantic valentines days Wink

MrsW it's a small world, I worked in Anstruther for my first year teaching.

Not much news here. Bump is growing, one of my colleagues was laughing at me yesterday as he claimed I'd doubled in size over the weekend! (I hadn't) Have decided it definitely has been pip I've been feeling, although I'm not feeling movements every day yet I'm 99.9% certain I got kicked yesterday evening, made me jump! 20 week scan a week on Friday, time seems to be speeding up now, excited but terrified.

Have our February break this week so off work Thursday and Friday (could have done with the whole week) and my parents are coming up to visit from tomorrow to Saturday, which will be lovely but busy.

Getting very fed up with our house not being finished now and very stressed out about it, but it's so difficult when we're both working all week to try and get stuff done at the weekends, especially when I just want to put my feet up and relax for a bit!

Right, off to try and tidy the house for my parents and then pilates.

I do believe this is the most up to date version of the list after a wee snoop on the PESH thread!! Congrats Muser if you're lurking!! :)

cherrycobbler · 16/02/2011 15:16

congrats muse!! MrsW you are not far off the top of that list...!

Hope everyone well. Growth scan was fine, baby doing well, had sugar in my wee so had to go blood glucose test and they'll let me know the results by next week. Am hopeful the sugary wee is a result of my mars bar addiction slightly sweet tooth rathe than GD Blush

Also they think its a GIRL!!!!! Seems to be some kind of May Frolicker trend!!!!! Second growth scan in a month's time. Genuinely would have been v excited whether boy or girl but having an indication has made it all a bit real :)

OP posts:
crazybutterflylady · 16/02/2011 15:23

Ooooh cherry how exciting, another girl!! Glad to hear all is well... try not to worry about the sweetened(!) wee for now, could be nothing.

I have my 4D scan on Saturday. I am concerned they're going to tell me it's a boy (having bought a gazillion pink things). Hehe... very excited to see her moving around though - I am not keen on the 4D scans - they're a bit scary looking - but I thought I would regret not having one and it feels like ages since my 20 week scan.

highheels it feels like your pg is flying by. Probably not to you, but certainly to me it does! Are you going to find out the sex at 20 weeks?

Hope everyone is well!

MrsWajs · 17/02/2011 02:13

Eeek I know cherry I was thinking that myself when I did it but just decided to ignore the fact and hope it would go away . . . . .hehe!! No, actually I am starting to get quite impatient, I just want my baby here now!
I'm predicting a bit of queue jumping from crazydays and the twins and I think kurly has guessed that I might queue jump her so my new variation on the list is this:

Superpenguin
Haloflo
JollySergeantJackrum
MrsWajs
Kurlyvoice
Crazydays
Stegasaurus
Cherrycobbler
Crazybutterflylady and so on....

Just a bit of fun obviously!!

On a completely different matter I wanted to pick your brains about something - I weighed myself today at work (old pre-pregnancy habit which I can't stop!) and I appear to have lost around 4 lbs since last week Confused I can't be exactly sure as I don't chart my weight anywhere, just keep a mental note, but I'm quite sure last week I was 12stone if not 12st 2lbs as I remember thinking I'd almost put on 2 stones (was previously 10st4lb) and this week I only weigh 11st 12lbs!? I'm no scientist but it seems a bit strange to me, surely at 30+4 the baby is doing a lot of growing and therefore I should be putting on a little weight as well or at least stay the same as I was? Don't have midwife appt until 32 weeks but don't want to phone up and ask in case they think I'm being silly, surely if weight was very important to development they would have been weighing me more often? I've only had a baseline weight at booking and that was all. Opinions welcome :)

Second question - who was it that had the very attractive hand splints and the carpal tunnel syndrome?? I've been getting pins and needles in my hands at night which is new but haven't been having any pain as such and wondered if this was how it started??

Thanks girls!

slowshow · 17/02/2011 10:07

Hi everyone!

This week I have been mostly chasing up my 12 week scan appointment. Phoned the hospital on Monday and they didn?t have my referral, so I had to ring the GP surgery and ask them to send it again. Phoned hospital again yesterday to see if my referral had arrived (it had) only to have the woman on the phone say ?So, you aren?t sure of your dates?? Turns out that the GP didn?t fill in ANY of my information on the form, despite the fact we discussed it at my appointment. So as well as having to project manage my own referral, I?ve had to supply the hospital with all the info that should have been on it. Good job I have no faith in the NHS, innit, otherwise I?d be patiently waiting for an appointment letter that was never going to arrive Grin

20 weeks already highheels, wow...

William sounds super cute bunnygirl, I love it when babies learn to blow raspberries!

cherrycobbler · 17/02/2011 11:23

VERY excited about 4D scan crazy!! Fingers crossed you don't have to then spend all of Sunday returning 400 pink babygrows :)

Grrr slowshow how annoying! How many weeks are you now? Hope you're not feeling too sicky or tired.

MrsW I have wrist supports for carpal tunnel - mine started with pain rather than pins and needles. I find that Boots neoprene wrist supports (the kind that are a bit like long fingerless gloves) are the most comfy to sleep in at night and have either made a huge difference or my CPS has eased of its own accord (I sleep in them every night so not tried what its like without). Doc gave me proper splints but I don't find them as good to be honest, probably because my CPS isn't as bad as some poor ladies. I think luckyseven also had them. Talking of whom, hope you're ok lucky and enjoying a much calmer start to motherhood than crazy new year (if you are still lurking on this thread). The weight thing is a bit odd but may be because you are losing weight elsewhere/ burning it off in the third trimester growth spurt? If your bump is not getting smaller and you're not leaking any water or anything I wouldn't fret too much, they seem very unconcerned about weight with me and mine does seem to fluctuate too. I'd prob would mention it to m/w tho if you're worried to be honest. I think they expect pregnant women to be a bit silly. Better that than fret about it.

Just been told 28 bloods were fine, incl. the sugar one - phew! Sugary wee was all about the chocolate obsession. Ooops.

I'm 10 weeks today cherry! I said to DH this morning that I'm a quarter of the way through, which shocked him a bit. I'm REALLY tired all the time but I'm not finding the nausea too bad. It tends to start after lunch and hang around for the rest of the day, but I'm not actually throwing up so I'm soldiering on through it Wink

I'm still getting the odd period-type pain, and mild shooting pains in my cervix (well, I'm guessing it's my cervix) which alarm me slightly. I'm guessing it's just normal first trimester stretching pains, but at the same time I'm wondering whether I'm actually far too blase and I should be ringing my GP about it (bearing in mind that I can't contact a midwife because I haven't had a booking appt yet)?

I'm so desperate to have my scan! Just need to know that everything is ok - I'm terrified of getting scanned and finding out it's a MMC.

slow 10 weeks - wow! V normal to feel nervous pre scan - I was terrified before all of mine, and only now starting to relax a bit for the growth scans as I can feel LO kicking. I got all sorts of wierd pains - the advice I got was that unless its crippling, then if you're not bleeding they're not too concerned. But I'm no a medical person so don't rely on that! V glad nausea's not too bad, tiredness should improve in...oooh... about 2 months' time :)

highheels forgot to say, yay for baby kicking, it is the loveliest feeling and my favourite thing about pregnancy (that and not having to hold my tummy in when I walk past mirrors).

toria got a bfp on the conception thread - yeah!
