bunnygirl80 · 25/02/2011 09:21

halo the best make up I took was bronzer and blusher cos I lost quite a lot of blood so looked all pale and anaemic for a few days. It was nice to be able to put some colour back in my cheeks Smile

I took my hairdryer but never used it cos it would have interrupted valuable time spent gazing at William [soppy]

MrsW it's nice you remembered I was your first Grin I got random pins and needles in my hands in the last few weeks of pg, especially when I was sleeping. I think it was just all the extra fluid I was retaining and it went away about a week after I gave birth

haloflo · 25/02/2011 09:35

Ouch. I went shopping yesterday for about 3 hours, including a half hour stop for a cup of tea and am suffering today. My feet, hips & legs ache. Clearly I underestimated how little I can do at this stage! I am going to put my feet firmly up today and rest.

showslow Brillant news about the scan. I was told to drink 1 pint of water, an hour before the 12 week scan. I think I managed 3/4 pint half hour before and was still bursting. Like Cherry said if you haven't got enough water they might do an internal scan or maybe they want you to bring a bottle of water to top up? You need the full bladder so your uterus is pushed up because at 12 weeks it is still sitting low in your pelvis . If you haven't drunk enough they might not be able to get a clear picture & measure it. I hope you figure out what this other appointment is . Will be thinking of you Thursday.

Cherry& Mrsw I didn't think about the H&S risk of hairdryers so I will check with others who have recently given birth (I am too shy to ask my MW in case she thinks I'm vain). I will also ask about phone chargers because I will need my phone more than nice hair!

bunny Hmm, maybe I will pack blusher. I have a soft cream pink one which could be nice... I'm sure I won't even care that much when I have my LO and will be all soppy like you!

toria First trimester tiredness is so hard. I also got a little insomnia too - I think it's because so much is going on. I hope you got some rest/sleep later on. How far along do you think you are now? Any idea on your EDD so we can get you added to list?

mrsw Good to hear you are chilled about the birth. I am starting to get The Fear!

I am 37 weeks this weekend & think that after 20 weeks time has just gone very fast and shows no signs of slowing down!

ToriaPumpkinHead · 25/02/2011 19:39

Halo I had a nap at about seven before my best friend rang to ask me questions, and I've done the same tonight, came home from work feeling very sick, laid down on the sofa and let OH do his own dinner, slept for an hour and a half and then inhaled two slices of buttered toast lol.

Myself and the Dr have both calculated my EDD to be October 26th, three days after OH's birthday!

MrsWajs Glad you've found your 4lbs Grin This week has dragged far more than last week, I think that's cos I wasn't working for most of this week though, so I've been left to fret. Managed to convince myself that now we've told a few people something is going to go wrong, even convinced myself I was spotting earlier (I wasn't) is hard to shake though. Someone slap me so I snap out of it?

Highheels Hope your scan went well today.

Brew for everyone, I'm off to take my nail polish off and lie down again. Enjoying this being looked after lark!

pixiestix · 25/02/2011 21:34

Toria Grin Don't worry about it - we have all done the first trimester fret. Its the worst part, honestly. Just when you thought the 2ww was over.... here comes the 12ww! Glad you are being well looked after though.

Hope you got on well today Highheels.

Hermya321 · 25/02/2011 22:04

Toria Congratulations, bizarely you'll be due two days after DS's birthday.

Halo How you getting on? You on ML yet?

MrsW It only feels like two minutes ago you got your BFP.

How is everyone otherwise?

DS is growing way too quickly for my liking he is now four months old and 14lbs. We're getting actual giggles now and raspberrys. Oddly he has rolled but has taken the opinion that he's done it once and that he doesn't need to do it again Hmm. (theres a more recent picture on my profile if you want to nosy).

highheelsandequations · 25/02/2011 22:48

Just popping in to let you know all fine at scan, will share details tomorrow, off to bed! :)

luckyseven · 26/02/2011 00:25

Just popping in about the hairdryer and straighteners decisions. There was a hairdryer that was available to borrow on my ward but I had out a travel hairdryer in my bag so didn't have to join the queue of new mums wanting to borrow it. I took straighteners too and was glad of them it felt so good getting freshened up before the visitors came!

highheelsandequations · 26/02/2011 16:56

So scan was good, nothing unusual to see and everything looked like it was in the right place! Measurements seemed spot on for dates as well. Whe we started Pip had feet right up over his/her head, think he/she must have been listening to the instructions in my yoga class on Thursday eve :o No clue to flavour from way baby was lying so we didn't have our surprise ruined :) Pip was being very cooperative for measurements but refused to get into a good position for a really good picture, although sonographer managed to get one where it doesn't look too much like an alien. Have posted on profile :)

Halo glad you're enjoying your ML, you should definitely be spending the time with your feet up and not traipsing round the shops! I'm currently trying to decide when to start mine. I want to try and work as long as possible from a financial perspective but at the same time I'd like time to prepare and relax before pip arrives.

slow can't believe you're 12 weeks already! Glad you've finally got the scan date and hope everything goes well for you. I had a scan at 12 weeks and followed the instructions for getting a full bladder and was sooo uncomfortable I couldn't relax. For the 12 week scan I went to the loo before we left (about an hour before the appointment) and then just sipped from a bottle of water until the scan, felt much better.

Toria hope you're not fretting too much, I was pretty much terrified for the first 14 weeks and it was not nice. Try to enjoy every moment of your pregnancy because although the time drags whilst you're experiencing it, it'll soon be gone. I hated the tiredness, spent many evenings crying as I was just soooooo tired and it was horrible and work in the afternoons was awful. Thankfully it does pass :)

Sorry for not mentioning everyone but going to try and make the most of the unusual day of sunshine we're having by pottering around the garden vaguely prodding at plants and kidding myself this is the same as 'gardening'. Then I wonder why the garden no longer looks as nice as it did when we moved in.

toria The first few weeks are terrifying. I found taking one day at a time the best way to deal with the 12ww. I set myself mini milestones too. At first just I just wanted to get to the weekend, then Monday morning, then 6 weeks, 8 weeks etc. Knicker checking is classic frolicker behaviour too but glad there was nothing there! Your symptoms sound nice and strong though, I hope you don't get them too bad however.

hermya I certainly am on ML and so far have found it very relaxing, just what I needed. I've started symptom spotting for labour but so far nothing. I keep telling myself I still could have another 5 weeks (am 37 weeks today) but I hope not! I can't believe that how fast your DS is growing. Brilliant pics. I love the one on the mat and the bright clothes you put him in!

highheels I am so pleased all was well at your scan & the picture looks really good to me! Any inkling over colour? I reckon I'm having a girl (and name wise I sincerely hope so as boys names are a no go subject in our household!) With work I am very happy to have chosen 36 weeks to finish but I am lucky and able to take 9 months . I have a desk job so probably could have worked all of last and next week and been ok but decided not to!

I hope everyone is having a good weekend and the BFP run continues.

OneOf8 · 28/02/2011 00:34

Hi All,

Been a bit AWOL since the arrival of Tom - who will be 8 weeks tomorrow Shock

Have debated putting an edited version of the (long over-due) birth so not to worry anyone due, but despite everything shows there is nothing to be nervous of.

Was booked into the "home from home" until as wanted the birth to be as natural as possible, with limited pain relief (was terrified of epidural) and limited intervention, as units run by midwives.

Waters broke on New Year?s Eve in the middle of a meal with family. Trip to hospital to check us and they done a trace on baby - all fine, no contractions

24 hours, check up again - still no contractions, but baby had a good heart beat.

48 hours since waters broke return to hospital. As still no contractions am no longer allowed on the unit, and get transferred to the ward for an induction the following morning.

3/1/11 - Was told to eat breakfast as not able to eat once the induction starts as there is a higher risk of needed further intervention.

Had a maccy d's (something comforting about crappy food!) and then the midwife sets the drip. There is a problem getting the drip to flow - despite the saline going straight through, the oxytocin wouldn't flow. After fiddling for a bit finally starts flowing. 9.20 am told I could expect to meet baby in roughly 12 hours.

All this time we have been on a monitor (since being admitted the night before). I had one mild cramp then baby's heart went from 140 bpm to 40 and then nothing.

The midwife was moving the monitor around on my belly trying to pick the beat back up, and after a few moments hits the emergency alarm

The room quickly filed up with various staff, all talking at once. The original midwife talks to me explaining what people are doing and who they are - but I was trying to focus on remaining calm not to affect the baby's heart further - which was still not being picked up.

As I was still not in labour, and baby's heart had been down for 8 minutes by this point I was told I needed a crash c-section.

The theatre had already been prepped for a planned section, so I was wheeled straight in.

I had not had any pain relief as wanted to see how I got on - due to the baby's heart having remained low they wanted to do a GA - but as I had eaten they were not happy to do this, so set up the epidural.

The hardest thing was trying to keep calm to not distress baby further.

I lied about the local being active - they do a local on the site for epi so it doesn't hurt so much as I wanted them to get on with it ASAP - so can confirm when push comes to shove it doesn't hurt that badly (which was one of my fears)

The second I was numb they started - 1st cut at 9.51 am, and Tom was born screaming at 9.54 am

I was a bit sore once the epidural wore off - but was moving fine by Tuesday evening, only slightly tender but could walk around ect without any issue. Just needed to be cautious lifting and bending - keeping it to a minimum.

Although it was not a bit how I'd planned - I can not praise the staff enough. My son was born healthy and I was ok also.

We did end up back in hospital a week later but this was un-related.

If I had known how it was going to go, or had thought "what if" scenarios when his heart beat dropped I would have been a mess - so have told my experience quite bluntly to show no matter what happens so long as you are well looked after, it will be a positive experience.

Can see we have had a couple of BFP's since my last read - so congrats!

Glad everyone?s pregnancies are going well - I do miss having my baby safe in my tummy as he was all mine - but nothing beats having him here!

I seem quite detached from the birth - and to be honest until I heard him cry I tried not to feel anything at the time - so if anyone wants to ask anything I am happy to share but dont want to worry anyone as with details unless requested - as the most important thing to remember is you will be with experts!

bunnygirl80 · 28/02/2011 02:29

oneof8 thanks for sharing your story, it sounds like you had a pretty scary time of it. I'm glad you and Tom were both ok at the end of it all

If you want to post in more detail you could put it on the postgrads then anyone that's still pg and wants to avoid birth stories doesn't have to see it Smile

MrsWajs · 28/02/2011 10:12

Wow Oneof8 just goes to show that no amount of planning can prepare you for how labour is going to go!! Glad everything turned out fine in the end!

Well I had an eventful day yesterday, decided it would be a good idea to throw myself down the stairs in the morning!! Cue major panic from myself and DP! Didn't land on my bump thankfully but banged my head and now have a very attractive carpet burn on my bum!! Went to the hospital to get checked out and everything was fine, was due to have 32 week appt today anyway so they just did all my bits and bobs while I was there, had ketones in my urine (as I hadn't had any breakfast!) so got into trouble for that! And baby is currently breech!! Clearly she doesn't like flying down the stairs - I know it doesn't really matter until 36 weeks but she has been head down every other appointment and now I'm worried she won't turn back. I had thought she had changed position as I've been a lot more uncomfortable the last few days.

Anyway all is fine now, back's a bit sore this morning but I've got some tubigrip for that and she also gave me splnts to wear on my hands at night for the tingling! She wasn't too concerned about the weight loss but has advised me to try and increase my intake otherwise I might continue to have ketones in my urine and this would be a cause for admission!! So am off for lunch with my friend this afternoon and I'm gonna eat like a horse!!

pixiestix · 28/02/2011 12:41

Oh my god, Oneof8, what a birth story! Shock I'm so glad that you and your little man are ok. What you went through sounds truly terrifying. Come and join us on the postgrads soon and tell us all about Tom.

Ouch MrsW, poor you. Not at all what is needed at 32 weeks. Hope you enjoy your massive lunch today in compensation! Smile As for the breech baby, the old wives tale of spending lots of time on all fours with your bum in the air is supposed to work a treat according to my baby club friends. Worth a go, at any rate!

cherrycobbler · 28/02/2011 15:06

oneof8, lovely to hear from you and thanks for your birth story. You poor thing, it must have been utterly terrifying. So glad you and Tom are ok - how is he doing after your second hospital scare? It is somewhat comforting to know that even if things go awry it can still have a positive outcome.

highheels fab that the scan went well!

toria as everyone else says the first 12 weeks are the longest 12 weeks ever, and full of worry - its normal! After that time will speed up... until you get to approaching mat leave and then time for me seems to have slowed right down.

mrsw boo re the fall - not ideal but glad all seems to be ok. enjoy your big lunch and treat yourself to an extra slice of cake - it is doctor's orders :)

I can barely keep my eyes open at work today. Thinking of using up all my holiday and starting my ML at 36 weeks rather than 37 weeks. Only worry is that I will end up being v bored as everyone I know will be at work - and if LO is 2 weeks late that would be six weeks of sitting around. Hmmm.

OP posts:
slowshow · 28/02/2011 15:57

Oh Toria, that all sounds very familiar. For me, the tiredness got better around 8-9 weeks. And now, at 11 weeks, my nausea is much better than it was. Hurrah. Although the first 12 weeks DO drag, I found 4 weeks to 8 weeks absolute torture, and then time started passing much faster after that. My birthday is Oct 27th, I can confirm it?s a lovely time of year to have a birthday (always falls during half term as well!).

I?ve said this before Hermya, but I have a thing for babies blowing raspberries Grin

Luckyseven I hadn?t even considered the need for hairdryers and straighteners in hospital, eek.

OMG highheels, such a startling difference from 14 weeks to 20 weeks. Really amazing Grin

Bless you oneof8, I think I would have lied about the local being active too Sad SO glad that Tom came out screaming, what a nightmare.

MrsWajs has just reminded me that I need to replace the bannister on our stairs ? the old one got wrenched off the wall so we could replaster. I hope you?re okay now, albeit a bit sore. No more throwing yourself down the stairs, y?hear? Grin

OneOf8 · 28/02/2011 23:36

Hi All,

I really hope I haven't worried anyone with the details of Tom's birth - wasn't the intention, it was more to show that even if things are not going as planned, there is no need to worry, so apologise if this has upset anyone.

mrsW hope your ok after your tumble!

cherry if you are happy to be "sitting at home", then do it as baby could suprise you coming early! You will always find something to do if you really want to - but if you take the time to rest you will not regret it!

HH glad your suprise wasn't ruined - I found I kept swaying towards knowing - especially when shopping, but so glad we waited! it was really special to find out on the day - although I know others were over the moon knowing before!

Halo wow - time has flown by! take it easy - I found one day I had tons of energy, but then felt like I'd run a marathon just hours later!

Was planning on catching up with everyone but my monster is calling so will have to pick this up later - but just to add have put pics on my page. Hopefully I have done it properly!

haloflo · 01/03/2011 09:38

oneof8 Its brilliant to hear from you. Thank you for sharing your story. If I'm honest it did scare me a little (and upset me that you had to go through that) but I'm glad you told us it. As you say everything worked out and your DS is here and that is what is important. I hope you are ok about it all though (you did amazingly well at the time) and if you ever want to talk about it I am here, as are the rest of us. I might not get what you went through (and if I'm honest I hopefully never will) but would do my best to help. The photos work fine and are great, he is gorgeous.

mrsw Your fall sounds really scary but glad you and LO are ok. There is plenty of time for that breech baby to turn. Do you have a gym ball? I think they help get the baby into the right position. Plus they are great for sitting on and easing back pain. I hope you enjoyed your lunch.

cherry How about finishing at 36 and a half weeks or something? I finished at 36+2 and this meant 3 days off last week with this week being my first full week off. So far I feel refreshed and happier to be off. I may get bored later on depending on when LO arrives but I reckon I will still feel better for the rest. Are there any mid week bump things going on in your area? I'm off to aqua natal later today & have a breastfeeding workshop tomorrow afternoon. Combine that with a MW appointment Thursday and hair cut Friday I am quite busy!

ToriaPumpkinHead · 01/03/2011 09:46

Thanks for the slap Pixie Grin and for all the reassurance from everybody :)

Halo That's exactly what I've found myself doing! I'm six weeks today and feeling much calmer, all my symptoms appear to have subsided other than heartburn in the afternoons and the tiredness but I'm not fretting too much after my manager told me yesterday she was nine weeks before she even realised she was pregnant!

Oneof8 I'm so glad you and your son are both alright, just goes to show you can't really plan these things!

MrsWajs That sounds like not much fun! Glad you were checked out and everything's fine.

With all the birthday/EDD talk I had a look at the list, Crazydayz and Crazybutterflylady are both due just before my birthday, also a great time to have a birthday Wink

We told my best friend on Sunday who did a great little dance around her living room while her fiance and OH talked about swimmers rolls eyes

I've got what will probably turn out to be my last reflexology appt this afternoon. I booked it over a month ago but she knew we were TTC and agreed to change to a gentler, pregnancy friendly treatment when I got my BFP. A bit nevous about telling her, I know she's been TTC for a long time so I feel a bit guilty, which I know is stupid but there you go.

As such, I need to paint my toenails. Vain? Moi? Wink Oh, and Happy St David's Day! St Davids (I just wanted an excuse to use the daffodil)

haloflo · 03/03/2011 14:20

slowshow Hope is going well at your scan today.

toria I love that your DH is proud of his swimmers. It always makes me laugh how proud my DP is of my bump, like he is solely responsible! Glad you are feeling calmer about things.

All is well with me. Went to a NHS breastfeeding workshop yesterday. It was really good - they talked about how to hold the baby, latching on and assured us there would be lots of support in the hospital and when back at home. Also told us when/where the support groups are and gave us phone numbers to call for advice if we want to ask questions. I really want to be able to bf now so fingers crossed LO & I will manage it.

Had a MW appointment today. My BP was up a little so she wants me to come back in 1 week. However I think the reason my BP was raised was because I thought my appointment was at 10 and only realised it was actually at 9.15 at 9.55. Cue me waddling as fast as I can to the surgery (its just on my street, not far) apologising repeatly to the receptionist and then rushing up the stairs when they squeezed me in at 10. My BP was lower at the end of the appointment than at the start so I think the baby brain moment of getting the time wrong raised it up rather than it being anything to worry about.

Hope everyone else is well today.

haloflo · 03/03/2011 17:20

Oh I forgot to mention the most exciting part of my day, the nursery furniture arrived. There are now 6 large boxes full of wood which need to be transformed into a cotbed, wardrobe and drawers. DP is going to have a busy weekend and I will be making lots of Brew!

cherrycobbler · 03/03/2011 18:08

hooray for the nursery furniture arriving flo!!! b/feeding workshop sounds v positive - I am getting myself a bit freaked out by tales of how difficult it is to start with so looking fwd to the breastfeeding class of my antenatal course. Hope you have had a lovely relaxing afternoon getting your BP down after stressful morning - what a panic!

hope everyone is well - nothing new to report here except being very tired. 28 week bloods were all fine so doubt its anaemia, just me being a bit pathetic. can't get comfy in bed at all and a friend has recommended getting a memory foam mattress topper - anyone tried one of these at all? Pretty pricey so even if they are the magic bullet not sure I want to buy one just for 10 or so weeks of more comfy sleep....

Evening all! :)

Have recovered nicely from my stair-diving escapade and am now back at work (still nightshift) but only for 9 more shifts!! Grin 4 nights and 5 days and then hello ML!! Although someone at my work seems to be having other ideas since I've been rostered on for another weeks off duty when I'm supposed to be on annual leave and time due days prior to ML starting!!! Wasn't very impressed when I came in and saw that tonight I can tell you, however a little note to my boss has been written so hopefully all will be rectified tomorrow. If not there will be a v. Angry MrsWajs on mumsnet tomorrow night!!

How exciting for your nursery furniture arriving flo what kind did you get?? Ours has been cluttering up various corners of the house, still in boxes, for weeks now and it's starting to do my head in! That combined with the fact that the entire contents of DSS room/nursery to be are also littered all over the house is just a nightmare! We have a toddler bed and a chest of drawers in our room, 2 toy boxes, a bike, a changing unit and baby bath in the living room, a length and a half of coving on the stairs and a sofa bed and another toy box in the conservatory (along with DPs weight bench and 2 arm chairs Confused) can't get near my tumble drier without risking injury!! Thankfully the nursery is nearly ready and we can get everything back to where it belongs and I can chill out! Can you tell I'm a control freak!! Also had a letter from my health visitor asking to arrange a home visit prior to baby being born - there is no way she is coming while the house is upside down so intend to put her off at least until I start ML!!

Weight loss is continuing to be a theme for me. After putting back on my 4lbs I have now lost another 2!!! So not really getting anywhere fast! A bit anxious to bring it up again next week with MW as don't want to be admitted to hospital for malnourishment or something - clearly thats a fantasy as I'm anything but malnourished but I'm worried she might just think I'm vain and trying not to put on weight, which I really am not! I just find it really difficult to eat when I'm not hungry plus baby is prodding right up into my stomach now which makes eating even harder! :( Anyone got any suggestions? I'm freaking myself out reading about how baby puts on most of it's birth weight in the last weeks and if I'm not gaining anything much then surely baby can't be either?! Gaaah!!

Oooh also meant to say cherry that we have a memory foam mattress and I can't say that it's probably made much difference to how well I sleep so I don't know if a topper would be any different, sorry that's probably not much help but I wouldn't want you to go out and spend money you didn't need to. Maybe even just try a duvet on top of your mattress and see if that works first?

oooh duvet on top of mattress sounds excellent idea mrs, will try that. You won't sound vain at all to the MW, just concerned about your LO so I would bring it up if its worrying you. BabyW will be taking first dibs on everything though, so its likely that she will be growing up a storm and using all your nutrition and energy, and the weight loss is because there's less left for you. Horrible to have a nagging worry though - hope MW puts your mind at ease. And YAY for ML!

Thanks haloflo for thinking of me yesterday! Had a bit of a panic when I got home, just before setting out for the scan, because there was a letter from the hospital to say my booking appointment was this morning Shock. Had to quickly email my manager to let her know I needed the morning off. Talk about short notice!

Anyway, scan was great Grin. I was honestly quite worried when she put the probe on my tummy, thinking there wasn't going to be a baby there, or some other disaster, but there it was, clear as anything. Saw it jump and move its limbs around a few times, but then it settled into a comfy position and the sonographer couldn't take the NT measurement. She kept waggling the probe on my tummy to make it jump (ow, my bladder!) and it would jump a little, and then settle back into the same position. Lazy, like its parents. It eventually moved, and then we got to see it flip over and lie on its head, and then lie on its face Grin

There's a photo on my profile - legs look quite long, I think!

So I was straight back to the same place this morning for my booking appointment. Went ok, although I don't know why I bothered taking the time to fill out various forms, when instead of looking at them, the midwife/receptionist asked me verbally instead. Oh well, no big deal. My blood pressure was a bit high - anxiety I think - and it took three attempts before they could get blood out of me. Ow. Will have to get used to that.

It's so much more real now. I am SO happy! DH is a lot more cautious than me, thinks we should not tell too many people until the NT measurement and bloods come back, but I watched the sonographer do the measuring and it seemed to come out around 1.4mm every time which is pretty good I think? Anyway, my mum would wring our necks if we kept it quiet for much longer, she really can't keep it to herself for another minute. So, I rang my grandparents last night, and we'll start telling other family members this weekend Smile
