Morning all. Thanks for the lovely messages.
I am feeding as I type so apologies in advance for the typos!
cherry lovely to hear from you! Your birth story was really nice to read, sounds very civilised...until the labour of course which is never going to be easy I have learnt!
So here goes...I had a sweep on Friday at T+7. My MW also had to bring the cervix forward sore!! I was 1-2cm dilated and the cervix had thinned a lot. Great I thought, any day now.
On Monday morning I started having mild contractions so we timed them on and off. I'd booked a massage and reflexology at home that morning so the therapist came round and gave us some tips for massage in labour etc and gave me a bit of acupressure to help things along. I kept moving all day, went for a walk, bounced on ball etc. By 1am the contractions were really hurting but weren't close enough. I got DH to call labour ward anyway...they said to come in and be examined which we did and I was told baby had turned back to back but I was still only 2cms dilated
gutted is not the word. They wanted me to stay because baby was having decels now and again. I agreed to stay until she had calmed down but I was determined not to go onto labour ward as they'd have sent Mr Crazy home.
We stayed till 3 and baby was fine, I was in a lot of pain a this point but they said to go home and try to relax (!!). By the time we got home I was in a right state, in huge amounts of pain and couldn't believe this wasn't even labour! After 2 hours of probably the worst time of my life, DH phoned back and said I was suffering a lot. The MWs had had a shift change by this point so a new one told us to come back in. I wasn't sure I could get in the car! The contractions were so powerful and constant :(
Got to hospital and they did another examination. I was fully dilated!! I can't tell you the relief...! I had really thought I was going to have to have a section if they said i was still 2cm, because I couldn't believe the pain was going to get worse! So, water birth out the window :( I was ready to push!
From arrival to birth took 40 minutes. Incredible! As baby crowned (ouch ouch) her heart rate dropped massively so a whole team came in, gave me an episiotomy and ventouse to help her out...her cord was tight round her neck - twice! Bless her. But she was here!! I was over the moon, couldn't believe it after 11 days of thinking there had been some mistake and perhaps I was just very windy and not pregnant at all :)
I'd managed the whole thing on tens which I can't believe, I have to say I feel really proud of myself - and DH poor thing who'd had to manage my breathing for me and calm me down when I was in labour and hadn't realised!!! hope that doesn't sound too smug. I am not sure I'd choose to do it that way again! Like cherry my midwives were absolutely amazing, i would have given up without them i think! I strangely felt ok afterwards, except for the stitches which are still pretty ouch... So I went home later that day.
If you've kept going this far I commend you... Bit of a waffle, sorry!
Anyway it was all totally worth it, Tabitha is gorgeous, I'll see if I can upload a photo later.
Hope you are all ok... I will try to pop in later and be a bit less mememe :)
