haloflo · 25/05/2011 21:33

cherry I have been wondering how things went! It sounds like they went well. Pushing is hard and I think the epidural makes it harder. Well done for avoiding an assisted delivery and no stitches! I had the same reaction afterwards about having a second..time will tell if the memories fade and we get broody again!

Re feeding. Have you tried feeding lying down at night and/or co sleeping? It saves settling time so helps you get more sleep? Best of luck with it though, its not easy. I've found bf support groups invaluable. Maybe try seeking one out when you feel like getting out and about? You aren't a bad mum for considering formula. Its got everything the baby needs in it.

Also are you leaking? Breast shells can be used to collect leaked milk and given to your DD in a bottle. That could give you chance for a longer sleep.

crazybutterfly I hope you are cuddling your baby right now and everthing went well.

highheels You are nearly the top of the list!

haloflo · 25/05/2011 21:36

tomboy I too bloated in early pregnancy. Bump bands are much recommended in this thread, mine were about £10 for 3 in New Look. They hide the fact your top button/flies might be undone & are ideal for hiding the post baby belly afterwards. I even used them to hide the gap between my tshirt and jeans when my maternity clothes got a little small towards the end! (DD was a big baby - nothing to do with my 3 stone weight gain!)

Also elastic band round the jeans top button works a treat too!

TomboyWife · 25/05/2011 23:01

I'm going to confess something most un-ladylike. Before I go into maternity clothes, I'll probably start wearing DH's jeans, which are exactly the same as my jeans, just bigger.

There, I've said it. Grin

Now, if this spotting would just effing stop please. Angry Between that, the torrents of pant snot, and what (sorry if tmi) smells like an outbreak of thrush, it's getting awfully uncomfortable "down there".

cherry thanks for sharing your birth story and congrats again on your little one!

highheels after you've finished your garden and utility room, could you come wallpaper my stairs? Grin

crazybutterflylady · 26/05/2011 09:16

Hi all
Just a quick one to say baby Tabitha arrived on Tuesday morning. She is absolutely perfect (apart from not knowing the difference between night and day yet :) ).
Will pop in later with birth story as she's just started crying! Typical!

kurlyvoice · 26/05/2011 11:07

Big big congratulations to cherry and crazybutterfly on the safe arrivals of your little girls - can't wait to see pictures! It's mad that two and a half months separate my darling boy and your little girls, given that we got our BFPs within a couple of days of each other.

Big wave to everyone else. tomboy, I bloated a lot at the start, in fact, it was one of the things that made me test. The other one was the, er, interesting smells emanating from below, so you're not the only one. There's nowt to be done about it, though I did feel better in myself when I had a little Carefree "laundry fresh" pad on, and I also found those the least irritating.

DS is now 10 weeks and we had our first weekend away, going to a wedding on the Saturday and watching Daddy singing in a concert on the Sunday. He's had a bit of a grotty cold and has been quite snotty and snuffly, but still charmed all of our friends! We're also getting our first smiles, which are lovely and just make me want to cuddle him even more.

Better run, he's making "I want food and will screech in a minute" noises! Grin

sorry last sentence should have read 'over here soon'

and tomboy I'm no good at wallpapering sorry :), but will be painting my landing ceiling after the utility room!

TomboyWife · 26/05/2011 20:05

Huge congrats on Tabitha crazy! Hope you and she are settling in well.

kurly I'm almost to the point of needing a panty liner, but I'm a little worried it'll chafe. I also really don't like looking at the brown spots even though I know they're really common. Interim solution: a trip to M&S after work, 10 new pairs of black knickers.

TomboyWife · 26/05/2011 20:07

Oh, and meant to say hi to Lanky, and offer condolences to Molly. If you're reading this, I hope you're doing okay.

crazybutterflylady · 27/05/2011 08:14

Morning all. Thanks for the lovely messages.
I am feeding as I type so apologies in advance for the typos!

cherry lovely to hear from you! Your birth story was really nice to read, sounds very civilised...until the labour of course which is never going to be easy I have learnt!

So here goes...I had a sweep on Friday at T+7. My MW also had to bring the cervix forward sore!! I was 1-2cm dilated and the cervix had thinned a lot. Great I thought, any day now.

On Monday morning I started having mild contractions so we timed them on and off. I'd booked a massage and reflexology at home that morning so the therapist came round and gave us some tips for massage in labour etc and gave me a bit of acupressure to help things along. I kept moving all day, went for a walk, bounced on ball etc. By 1am the contractions were really hurting but weren't close enough. I got DH to call labour ward anyway...they said to come in and be examined which we did and I was told baby had turned back to back but I was still only 2cms dilated Shock gutted is not the word. They wanted me to stay because baby was having decels now and again. I agreed to stay until she had calmed down but I was determined not to go onto labour ward as they'd have sent Mr Crazy home.

We stayed till 3 and baby was fine, I was in a lot of pain a this point but they said to go home and try to relax (!!). By the time we got home I was in a right state, in huge amounts of pain and couldn't believe this wasn't even labour! After 2 hours of probably the worst time of my life, DH phoned back and said I was suffering a lot. The MWs had had a shift change by this point so a new one told us to come back in. I wasn't sure I could get in the car! The contractions were so powerful and constant :(

Got to hospital and they did another examination. I was fully dilated!! I can't tell you the relief...! I had really thought I was going to have to have a section if they said i was still 2cm, because I couldn't believe the pain was going to get worse! So, water birth out the window :( I was ready to push!

From arrival to birth took 40 minutes. Incredible! As baby crowned (ouch ouch) her heart rate dropped massively so a whole team came in, gave me an episiotomy and ventouse to help her out...her cord was tight round her neck - twice! Bless her. But she was here!! I was over the moon, couldn't believe it after 11 days of thinking there had been some mistake and perhaps I was just very windy and not pregnant at all :)

I'd managed the whole thing on tens which I can't believe, I have to say I feel really proud of myself - and DH poor thing who'd had to manage my breathing for me and calm me down when I was in labour and hadn't realised!!! hope that doesn't sound too smug. I am not sure I'd choose to do it that way again! Like cherry my midwives were absolutely amazing, i would have given up without them i think! I strangely felt ok afterwards, except for the stitches which are still pretty ouch... So I went home later that day.

If you've kept going this far I commend you... Bit of a waffle, sorry!

Anyway it was all totally worth it, Tabitha is gorgeous, I'll see if I can upload a photo later.

Hope you are all ok... I will try to pop in later and be a bit less mememe :)

haloflo · 27/05/2011 10:53

Well done crazy 2 hours to go from 2cm to fully dilated! Sounds like you did really well. Hope the stitches heal soon. If you can bath as often as you can with drops of tea tree oil and lavender. Glad to hear the MW's were brillant - sounds like a common recent theme which is good to hear.

You don't sound smug - you sound like you had a good experience.

pixiestix · 27/05/2011 11:49

Wow, Crazy well done you, that sounds intense! Shock
Tabitha is such a beautiful name.

ToriaPumpkin · 27/05/2011 21:14

Massive congrats CrazyB love the name Tabitha Grin

Tomboy I'd offer to wallpaper your stairs but have just looked at the mess I made of mine last year so think I'll just let you get on with it...

Up here we've had all sorts of excitement, from the aching and grinding in my hips, pelvis, back and pubis to the fact my bump is suddenly heavy and necessitating a bump band to get round at work! Going to mention it to the midife at my my 20 week appt as concerned this pain isn't getting better. Work are another matter entirely, further to making us all redundant the MD has had a wonderful idea to fill the shop with crap and put on a sale with 12 hours notice, leaving us unable to keep up with the influx of vultures customers who saw "Closing down sale" and descended to ask us stupid questions and buy things they've turned their noses up at while we've been struggling to beat the recession. I swear the next person who tells me they always shop with us and will miss us will be asked where they were when we were trying to fight back from Christmas! And as for "Are you closing down/is everything in the shop half price/even this/but that sign says from marked prices/this is very confusing/what will you do now?" well, that is going to result in "yes, half price, everything, if you look carefully it says full price stock and that item is clearly marked at half price with a Was/Now sticker. Well I'm sorry you're going to miss the shop, I'm going to miss getting paid!"

Wow, that turned into a rant... It was a long day today, and I imagine it's only going to get worse over the remaining three months. On the upside my colleagues are all being very nice to me and not making me run up and down the stairs to the stockroom! Pumpkin is making herself known now, getting regularly kicked in the bladder, and if I drink anything hot or cold I get wriggly dances! Definitely going to take after her father... (going to have to switch to he next week I think before I get too used to thinking I'm having a girl!)

TomboyWife · 27/05/2011 22:33

Toria I think under the circumstances you're allowed to rant. I don't know how anyone can work in a shop and stay sane, never mind sane in the face of redundancy. I had a job in a supermarket for one measly summer when I was 16, and that was more than enough for my wimpy disposition.

bunnygirl80 · 29/05/2011 09:52

Congrats crazy Tabitha is a lovely name.

highheelsandequations · 31/05/2011 19:02

Toria hope things are getting better for you. I had really bad pain around my hips and pelvis around 20 weeks and was worried I'd end up with awful SPD but thankfully it eased off again. It comes and goes but mostly isn't too bad. My MW said that when you go through specific stages the pain can come/get worse. Hope you're feeling much better and have managed to have a restful weekend.

crazyb thanks for sharing your birth story, very impressed with the 2 hours to fully dilated and managing the whole thing on tens, well done!

tomboy know exactly what you mean about hating to see the brown dots in your knickers, everytime I thought my spotting had stopped I'd go to the loo and find more. Hope you're doing okay.

Talking of knickers, any recommendations for cheap pants for my hospital bag? I've had a few people recommend buying cheap real pants instead of disposable but am now wondering how many sizes to go up and whether I should get high-waisted or low and what would be the most comfy? Any suggestions from the post-grads?

Had MW app this morning and everything seems fine. Managed to confuse her though as I've bizarrely had clicks coming from my bump every now and then when pip kicks. MW had never heard of it before and was completely stumped :)

Now have to rant a little, DP has just played me a phone message from the MW. Was told antenatal classes started tomorrow and would be the next 3 Wednesdays, booked the afternoons off work and checked at last appointment that those were the correct dates. Was told yes. Mentioned it this morning and MW said yes. Just got message saying the classes start next week for 3 weeks. So now have to change my dates off, at the last minute, Angry after having asked on 3 separate occassions when they were and having never received the invitation and details through the post that I have been promised for the past 10 weeks. Plus a colleague was given tomorrow as an extra day to work this week (she's usually off Wednesdays) as we're in charge of an orienteering activity over the next few days so one of us needs to be in school tomorrow. Worried now that if I tell them it's been a mistake they'll tell her they don't need her and send her away to avoid having to pay her. Angry Angry grr

Waves to everyone I haven't mentioned, hoping you and your bumps or LOs are all good.

TomboyWife · 31/05/2011 21:03

highheels gotta love incompetence. Love, love, love it. Sad

I'm sure I'm jinxing it by saying so, but I think my spotting is gradually tailing off. It peaked last week when I was getting a little wodge of pink or light red once a day. I think that might have been a breakthrough bleed. The timing would be right, and on the (touch wood) last day I got red I was feeling decidedly pre-menstrual. That feeling's gone now and the spots have been getting less frequent and less intensely coloured since.

Erm, that was more than I really intended to write about the contents of my gusset. Sorry. Blush I've decided the spotting and attendant stress are nature's way of paying me back for morning sickness being comparatively mild so far.

ToriaPumpkin · 31/05/2011 21:49

Tomboy I had that conclusion too. Since I had it so easy with MS and other horrors nature clearly had to pay me back somehow and the hip pain and bleeds are clearly the way forward! Hope this is really it for you and it buggers off now Brew

HH That sucks! I can sympathise as my next scan will be two days after OH's school change their timetable for the new academic year so we're not most popular for trying to get him a morning off, luckily his PT loves me Grin

I've ordered a Dream Genii from eBay so will see if that helps, and am wearing my bump band every day so my back and hips have a bit of support when I'm walking around. Would kill for a hot bath but our boiler's been out since Sat and can't get a plumber til Thursday so making do with hot water bottles!

haloflo · 01/06/2011 17:25

tomboy I hope the spotting is finishing for you.

HH How annoying about your classes! Definatly worth a rant. Re knickers. I went for size 16 asda's own cheapo range in black. I was a 12/14 pre pregnancy. I found them a bit high as usually I wear low cut knickers as you still have a bump for a few days afterwards but I just pulled them down a bit at the front. They fit a maternity pad in fine and were generally comfy. I've not really sure if I got it right or wrong tbh!

Definatly get black though.

Hope everyone else is well. Smile

highheelsandequations · 01/06/2011 21:42

First run of orienteering event at work today, went okay although hoping to fix a few things for tomorrow, came home and just collapsed on the couch for the evening, thinking that by Friday eve I'm going to be absolutely exhausted! Also hoping that we get better weather, was freezing walking round and then sitting in the wind and rain for about 4 hours in total, doesn't help that I can't fasten any of my jackets or coats anymore!

Thanks for the knicker recommendation halo :)

Sorry for lack of personal messages, think I need to just go to bed now!

bunnygirl80 · 01/06/2011 23:23

HH That must be so annoying about your classes

Knickers: get cheapo ones rather than disposable. I was a size 10 pre-pg and bought size 14s and they fitted fine. I got the biggest granniest looking ones I could find so they sat quite high. The reason people recommend you get them to sit high is in case you end up with a CS - lower cut ones cut end up sitting right on your scar. Definitely get black - I also got some cheap dark coloured pj bottoms and yoga pants to wear as well.

tomboy hope your spotting is well and truly finished now
