Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
crazybutterflylady · 18/05/2011 11:06

oops sorry hh, I am going mad!!! You should definitely be calming it down then, don't feel guilty about it, just do it! 32 weeks have floooown by!!

ToriaPumpkin · 18/05/2011 12:06

That sounds lovely HH Grin I may be biased as we'll be doing something similar, we've got a chest of drawers that we inherited from one of my grandmothers when we moved in together, mum's giving me my great grandmother's rocking chair, OH is making the cotbed and I imagine the rest (cupboards etc) will come from IKEA! In the nursery we also have "The Library" which is a deep alcove that OH lined with bookshelves and covered with white painted doors and I'm planning to get fun nursery handles for Grin

GTT results are in and I'm absolutely normal! I did have a laugh when they told me I was normal, as did my friends Hopefully this means that from now on my midwife and consultant can stop focussing on my weight! Just packed my bag and left it by the door, then lunch and a bus into town and I'm on holiday! I am leaving just in time for the exchange trip with OH's school to arrive but apparently I'm going out for dinner with them all when I get back on Sunday!

highheelsandequations · 19/05/2011 16:00

crazyb time is certainly flying now, seems like 5 minutes ago I never thought I would get to this stage. Any news yet?

toria glad to hear of your normality :) Hope you're enjoying your holiday.

Very quiet in here just now, hope everyone's well.

TomboyWife · 19/05/2011 18:23

Okay ladies, I'm freaking out a bit and can use some calming down. Today at lunchtime I wiped and in with the usual pregnancy goo I found a few little drops of old-looking, brown blood. Cue complete and total tizzy. I was almost shaking, I was so nervous.

Those little drops seem to be the extent of it as it's been several hours and nothing further has emerged. I know spotting is very common in the first trimester and as time goes on I'm getting more and more sure there's nothing to worry about, but I had absolutely no idea I'd react so strongly. I'm almost more upset by my reaction than I am about the spotting.

Can someone please say there there and then kipper me? Sad

TomboyWife · 19/05/2011 18:24

Oh, and Toria I'm very sorry to hear about your friend and your job. Sad Is this going to affect your right to maternity pay?

bunnygirl80 · 19/05/2011 19:22

tomboy there there

highheelsandequations · 19/05/2011 19:25

Tomboy I had brown spotting at 8 weeks that carried on off and on till 14 weeks. Was a wreck when it started, shaking and in tears and got a referral to EPAC for a scan as I couldn't relax. Had had a mmc previously (which was very different) so was utterly terrified. It is very common and usually nothing to worry about but if it helps phone your GP in the morning and ask to be referred to your EPAC. Hope you're okay. Lots of hugs to you.

highheelsandequations · 19/05/2011 19:48

And meant to say tomboy that the midwives told me brown spotting is really common, it's often old blood from implantation or old blood getting shifted and pushed out by all the changes in your body. Please try not to get too stressed, I know it's hard though. xxx

Daiso · 19/05/2011 20:03

Hi All

Hope everyone is well. tomboy - brown spotting is quite normal. Hard not to worry but it's very common.
toria glad you are normal! Smile

Just a quick one from me. Am 13wks today, still feeling sick but not being as sick so fingers crossed it stays that way. I have my scan on Monday - it's seemed like an age since it's come around - having known from not even 4wks its worse than waiting for santa to come!! Am also going on holiday a week on Sat so can't wait for that either - Sun, sea and sangria (very small amount!)

Sorry if this is repeated as am on this and Nov thread so easy to be lazy and write same one!

TomboyWife · 19/05/2011 22:36

Thanks all. Had another little wodge of brown-tinted goo this evening, but managed not to freak out this time. I've been having a lot of stretchy type aches today, so hopefully as hh says this is just old stuff coming dislodged due to everything shifting around. If it carries on and/or gets worse I'll phone the GP.

ToriaPumpkin · 20/05/2011 17:57

Tomboy it sucks doesn't it? I had another small, pink bleed today, my fifth, and I freaked out enough that I started shaking, even when pumpkin started moving I still wasn't convinced Glad you're feeling better now and fingers crossed this is the end of it!

As for maternity pay, I will get nothing, nor redundancy as I've been there less than two years. We were planning for me to be a SAHM for a while anyway so it's not too awful but it's leaving us a month or so short which is rubbish. But we'll manage!

Glad you're doing well Daiso Are you looking forward to your scan?

TomboyWife · 20/05/2011 20:11

Toria hope you're feeling calmer now. Gawd, I never imagined this pregnancy lark would be so stressful, and I've only known I'm pg for three weeks!

I'm still getting the odd bit of old-looking brown goo, but it doesn't seem to be developing into anything more. I'm feeling less freaked about it all, but still really wired and on tenterhooks.

I also had a tiny smear of pink this morning, which really freaked me out, but that seems to have been a one-off. In fact, I'm starting to think I did it to myself as I was really rooting around up there. Blush

ToriaPumpkin · 20/05/2011 20:34

My midwife said to me when it happened the first two times that it was probably when I was over exerting myself as all mine have been pink or red, quite common after sex also (I'm told, poor Mr T hasn't been allowed near me since five weeks!). I've just been firmly kicked in the bladder so pumpkin is definitely fine in there, and I'm much calmer, just waiting for my friend to bring Chinese home Grin If you're worried then definitely call the GP or EPU, they'd rather a waiting room of women who are fine than someone sits at home scared, but my mum always says that if there's no pain then it's probably nothing.

CrazyAlien06 · 20/05/2011 22:01

hey everyone :) i had my 20 wk scan today and all was fine and dandy :)
baby even gave us a 'loser' sign by putting its hand up against its forehead and stuck one finger out haha
got 17 scan photos as I am part of a research project so get loads for free yay :D
hope you are all well x

haloflo · 21/05/2011 09:04

Hi tomboy if it helps I had some spotting (brown) when I was 6/7 weeks. I went to the GP and got an early scan. Try not to worry, although you do sound much calmer. Pregnancy is very stressful and worrying but becomes less so in the second trimester (especially after the 20 week scan) Time also speeds up after going so slowly at first. I thought I would never be 12 weeks let alone 40!

toria Am I right in thinking your mum is a MW? That must be brillant. Good news about getting kicked in the bladder after that scary moment!

crazyalien Congrats on the scan. 17 photos?! Wow!

crazybutterfly Thinking of you & wishing you easy labour vibes (if you are still waiting) Can't wait to hear your news.

bellaby Also thinking of you. Happy due date for tomorrow.

crazybutterflylady · 21/05/2011 09:25

Morning all!
Toria & Tomboy hope you are both feeling a bit better and not so worried about things... have a relaxing weekend and pamper yourselves is my advice!

CrazyA woohoo, really pleased he scan went well and trust you're feeling a bit more relaxed now too.

halo yep still waiting... 8 days od now and a bit over it to be honest!! I just want my princess! Grin hope you're well

haloflo · 21/05/2011 10:08

crazyb I know exactly how you feel. I got to 8 days over & then my waters broke with Hannah arriving on day 9. It happened out of the blue though, no clue that labour was imminent so don't give up hope. Enjoy your weekend as best you can.

TomboyWife · 21/05/2011 10:55

crazyb I hope you're out of pre-labour limbo soon! I obviously haven't had that experience myself, but every friend with kids who's gone over has said it's really infuriating.

halo thanks for further reassurances re: spotting. Is there anyone on here who didn't get brown spotting at 6/7 weeks? (Don't answer that, it's rhetorical.)

This morning DH made toast and I looked at it and thought, "Urgh, that's disgusting." I assume this is the onset of morning sickness? I've had a few little nauseous twinges in the past couple of weeks, but nothing more than that so far. (I'm 7 weeks tomorrow.)

highheelsandequations · 22/05/2011 10:31

tomboy glad you're feeling a little calmer, echo what halo said though, the time can pass so slowly at the early stages (especially if you're worrying) so phone the professionals if you want some more reassurance.

toria good to hear pumpkin's letting you know everything's okay. I'm going to miss being kicked once pip's born (even though I actually ended up with a bruise last week)! Although I'm now at the stage where I panic if I haven't felt movement for 10 minutes :)

crazya great news on the scan.

daiso hope everything goes well at your scan tomorrow and have a fab holiday.

halo good to hear from you, how are you and your little angel doing?

crazyb hope your LO doesn't keep you waiting too much longer, it must be very frustrating.

Well I'm exhausted today after a 3 1/2 hour gardening session yesterday then an evening out with my friend. Fun night, we went to Edinburgh to see 'The Naked Truth', was a bit cheesy in places but a good laugh. Went to pick up DP from another friend's house on my way home, he was still chatting and drinking tea so ended up not getting home till about quarter to two, can't cope with late nights anymore. I've also had two comments over the past couple of days about how big I am. One of the ladies in the office at work couldn't believe it when I told her I had 8 weeks to go ("you look like you're about to pop!") and then yesterday the post lady saw me in thre garden and said "don't overdo it, I'm away quick in case your waters break"!!! I have a very prominent and round bump but I didn't think it was so enormous it was worth everyone commenting on :)

ToriaPumpkin · 22/05/2011 11:29

CrazyA Glad the scan went well, had a little chuckle at the image of the baby giving you a loser sign!

Halo Mum is indeed a MW, she's a little goldmine! Especially yesterday when a friend of mine grabbed me round the waist and swung me round before I could remind him I have a bump now (bloody hurt!) Mum assured me there's plenty of padding before I had chance to panic. I then got kicked repeatedly while trying to watch a film last night so sure she's ok in there (I've also taken to randomly assigning a sex as saying "it" sounds wrong now there's movement!)

CrazyB Hope the limbo is over soon for you!

Tomboy Could be MS, could just be an aversion. I can no longer cook burgers or eat lasagne apparently! Also wasn't keen on the bacon in my bacon roll yesterday...

HH I thought you were meant to be taking it easy?!

highheelsandequations · 22/05/2011 12:24

toria I'm trying but there's sooo much to do :o We usually call pip 'she' as it seems wrong, try not to do it in public though as it confuses people or makes them suspicious that we've secretly found out!

highheelsandequations · 24/05/2011 19:57

Quiet in here, hope everyone's okay, any news from crazyb?

TomboyWife · 24/05/2011 21:05

Quiet indeed.

I'm still getting spotting off and on, but my boobs have also grown again, metal mouth and needing to pee all the time are back, morning sickness is ramping up (still not bad, but I felt distinctly "blurgh" at breakfast time this morning), and the pant snot has gone nuclear. I thought I had a lot of it before, but this week has been something else entirely.

Oh, and that pair of jeans that was a little bit tight pre-pregnancy is now uncomfortably tight. I'm sitting here tonight with the button undone. At 7 weeks. WTF?

cherrycobbler · 25/05/2011 13:34

hello all! thank you lovelybutterflylady for passing on my news, hope you are not still being kept waiting and are snuggling your little one as I type.

here goes my birth story...

I had a sweep booked for the Tuesday (the day before my EDD) and told they were going to book me in for an induction on the Fri. The sweep itself was pretty painful but I was already 2-3 cm dilated and the m/w pulled my cervix forward - OUCH. They then said there was a space the next day for an induction. I was freaked out by the possibility of placental failure (a possible outcome of my low PAPP-A) so agreed.

Went in on the Weds and got hooked up to the monitor, which showed baby doing well and that I was in fact contracting every four minutes but not really feeling it. They did another VE and found I was 4cm, which I was pretty chuffed with. As I was on my way I was told that they wanted to go straight to the synto drip rather than start with pessaries. I had been thinking about asking for an epidural at the start, as your suggestion halo, and decided to ask that I only be hooked up to the drip once the epidural went in. M/w was fine with this, though had to wait an hour or so for the anaesthetist (sorry, brain too fuddled to spell). Got hooked up to low dose epidural which was a a bit wierd (could feel my legs but only partly - v odd), m/w broke my waters and then put in the synto drip and I just... waited. The monitor was telling me I was contracting but couldn't feel it - just chatted with DH, was jealous when he got a bacon sandwich (I wasn't allowed to eat), read a bit of my book (though couldn't really concentrate). All very civilised! After about three or so hours I could feel increasing pressure pushing down, they did another VE and found I was fully dilated. We waited for another hour for baby to move down as far as she could without me pushing, and they also let the epidural wear off quite a bit so I could start to feel the pressure and the urge to push. The pushing stage was just over an hour. It was pretty darn ouchy! Felt the most immense pressure bearing down with each contraction, and it was really hard work pushing - I think I only then realised why its called labour, I felt it was massive physical effort with every push. I found crowning the hardest bit as baby was in a slightly awkward position and the m/w was telling me not to push, which was agony. I'm glad I listened to her though as baby C was born shortly after, and I didn't tear or lose much blood. The m/w was completely amazing in fact - if it weren't for her encouragement at the end I'm sure I would have given up and they would have needed to use assistance to get her out.

It was as good a birth as I could have hoped for, although really tough - I immediately told DH we weren't ever having another, although as the memories are fading it all seems a bit rosier. Unfortunately I wasn't too well after the labour, my BP shot up, so that bit wasn't great but was much better after a couple of days.

Baby C is just gorgeous. The past two weeks have been really tough though - breastfeeding has been a real struggle, and my nipples really suffered. She also wakes every hour or so at night and the cumulative sleep deprivation is really getting to me. COnsidering introducing a bottle of formula (expressing is not working for me) so DH can do at least one feed - I need more than one hour's sleep p at some point. Feeling very guilty about it - this motherhood thing is tough!

Sorry for lack of any personal messages - I do read the thread (usually on my phone in the wee small hours when feeding) but only one handed so can't post! Well done to whoever has managed to read to the end of this epic!

OP posts:
highheelsandequations · 25/05/2011 21:00

Thanks for sharing your birth story cherry and congratulations again. Hope things get easier with the feeding soon. Don't feel guilty about considering formula, you have to do what's right for you and need to get some sleep. Hope you get some more sleep soon.

Tomboy I seem to remember finding jeans and other fitted clothes got uncomfortable very quickly, think it was due to bloating more than anything else, stuck to empire line dresses, tunics and leggings etc. for a while until I started on my maternity clothes.

I've just come home from yoga and painted the utility room. Then I suddenly realised how exhausted I was and came to collapse on the couch. Hoping DP comes home soon as I really want some juice now and I seriously don't think I have the energy to get up and go back through to the kitchen to get any!
