Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
am988 · 13/02/2011 09:51

Good Sunday All,

I haven't written for ages but I have been reading your posts - and it is reassuring to see that we somehow seem to be 'suffering' the same symptoms. At 36+1 heartburn wakes me up at night too and I also find Rennies better than Gaviscon - only tried Gaviscon once and my stomach wasn't happy. Milk is the best of course.

I'm also finding I sleep better in the morning than at night. So at night I'm up with heartburn, uncomfortable, and with worries.. toilet needs etc, then in the morning from 6 I finally get the best sleep ever sometimes for 5hrs at a stretch!

Going for our hospital maternity unit tour today. I want to go to see but at the same time I am really scared of labour (that's what's keeping me up at night plus all the heartburn & uncomfortable'ness'.) I'm constantly asking my husband whether he thinks I'll be ok. I have consultant appt on Tuesday - hoping that goes ok too as it is still not sure whether i can have a normal birth or CS.

Well hope to hear of some babies coming soon,.. I'm sure that will cheer many of us up. keep good news coming. Split I am sure all will be fine now.
Jupiter let us know your news of course. Jojo I had 3 hrs commute/day and after stopping work life looked much better so consider reducing your hours or stopping earlier - it will be worth it.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 13/02/2011 10:00

am988 - you will be fine. There are many different ways to labour and deal with labour, you will find the one that works for you and gets you through it. Please dont be scared.

Thank you for all the sympathy ladies it is much appreciated.

spilttheteaagain · 13/02/2011 10:03

Larty I quite liked Ina's book but have to admit to skipping most of the stories and reading the second half mainly. I got a bit annoyed about all the weird terminology and was mentally going "no, they are CONTRACTIONS!" everytime she wrote about "rushes", so I'm not sure I entirely embraced the spirit of it Blush
I prefered Marie Mongan's one called Hypnobirthing. Some very interesting bits of info in there and a decent biological explanation of why fear disrupts/slows labour. I am a scientist by training so I find the biology and stats quite helpful.

Well done Jupiter, hang in there, you are doing great. Hope you get to come home today and get some decent food! My hospital did a fantastic beef casserole and introduced me to smash for the first time in my life - yuck.

Purplefan · 13/02/2011 12:22

This thread is moving so fast as we all get prepared for the big event!!!

Jupiter hope you are doing well and hanging in there!!
spilt so glad things are going well for you and that they are keeping you closely monitored... you are bound to be anxious it is only natural...just stay as positive as possible..its what has got me through so far!! Wink

I have had a good couple of days getting organised..I have sorted out all my newborn clothes and bedding etc.. washed it and now need to do iron it and loving put it away till required!! I still need to pack the hospital bags but really feel that I am getting somewhere now!

Onto the final 3 days at work this week... need to do some planning today, but just can't get the motivation... hence I am on here Hmm on that note Catherine - well done on getting through Ofsted - a small Wine to celebrate!

I have clinic apt on Thursday, so hopefully will have a date for my CS to report later this week.

Take care all - must go and plan these last few days Sad x

KPidgeon · 13/02/2011 13:00

Hi all,

Great stuff on your ofstead inspection Catherine that's one big thing ticked off the list now isn't it.

Best wishes to Jupiter too. Hope things stabilise you are allowed to go home soon.

Mixedmama - hope the iron transfusion goes off fine and you have company whilst you're in.

Nothing to report here, which I'm thankful for, of course- heartburn i smy only gripe still - it's much worse if I eat late at night- and milk wasn't making any difference so will buy some Rennies today but apart from that baby is definitely settled and cosy over here.

Handover week at work this week- last week of until AL & ML- hooray- the end is in sight!

Jupiter118 · 13/02/2011 18:46

Sympathies to all those with heartburn - had it with DS vile. So far though not afflicted this time, though the vile hospital food could end that. Personally I couldn't stomach the liquid gaviscon - ugggghhh.

Haven't lost any more of the jelly or blood or anything which is good and now had 3 of the 4 steroid injections also good. Stil have cramps and tightenings as they like to call them, but waters intact. Heart trace on the monitor was a bit bizarre earlier so having another shortly - hopefully baby will be behaving. Something - possibly the tightenings have though encouraged it to go back head down - hopefly it will now stay that way.

jeffily thanks for the encouraging words - good to know. I will probably end up going overdue now!

Looking forward to after though especially a couple of large "wine"

x

Jenchandler · 13/02/2011 20:56

Hi all,
What a busy weekend on here.
Jupiter - thinking of you, hope baby behaves and you can get home soon.
Catherine - glad OFSTED was OK - one hurdle down,
Good luck mixedmama.

All OK here, the stabbing pains I had seem to have gone. Started getting a sore throat / cough - hopefully it will come to nothing. I have had my Dad and sisters staying the weekend so its been a bit chaotic. Looking forward to a quiet day tomorrow, I MUST wash the baby clothes etc. Bit stressed about money as had a £1300 tax bill through Sad
xx

Jupiter118 · 13/02/2011 21:48

Jen boo for the tax man - I hate the tax man!!

Later trace was better - baby behaving. Still have the cramps - uterus a bit irritable whatever that means??

1Catherine1 · 13/02/2011 23:07

Nasty taxman! Shock

Jupiter glad baby is behaving now! Still in hospital? Any idea when they'll let you go home?

I've been a busy bunny today - I think nesting might finally be kicking in. I've cleaned the bathroom and washed my dining room rug and floor. Went out to buy a carpet cleaner but Tesco's had none so I came home and did it by hand instead. I've piled up all the clothes I could find that weren't where they are supposed to live and done wash after wash all evening. To be honest I was looking for a distraction - got a terrible headache that paracetamol wouldn't shift, NHS direct said that taking Ibuprofen was "unlikely" to harm the baby but "unlikely" wasn't low enough for me to risk taking it so I've just suffered instead. Hmm

35 weeks today and MW appointment on Friday. Actually quite looking forward to it as I need her to tell me baby is growing fine as the small bump comparative to others in my NCT class is concerning. A woman at my OH work today commented on it to which I just walked off and stopped myself crying Blush, she came to apologize after as I think my OH explained why I was upset by it. The rational side of me keeps saying that its probably fine but the emotional side doesn't listen.

OP posts:
Jupiter118 · 13/02/2011 23:26

Catherine that's some serious nesting! If the headache won't shift speak to MW. Re: small bump i'm not sure it is any indicator - with DS I was huger than I am now and people keep g on my large bump this time. DS was 7lb 3. A friend of mine had quite a small bmp and her DS was more than 10lb. So I don't think they can be that accurate tbh.

Yep still in hospital hoping perhaps to leave tomorrow as not easy to sleep with bed buzzers labouring women etc etc.

jeffily · 14/02/2011 07:12

Early morning here ladies! I think I might be losing small amounts of my waters since I woke up at 5am this morning. DD then decided she wanted to come into the big bed and proceeded to kick and nudge me for ages until I thought I had better get up as we are still in the w country staying with friends and I was concerned that I was going to soak through their spare bed! So now am on the sofa while everyone else snores and am wondering what to do!?

No cramps or contractions, although I have been having lots of BH for a few weeks now and they take my breath away. We have a house viewing lined up for 10am and then are planning to drive home (about a 6 hour drive). Think I'll wait and see what happens and maybe ring labour ward at home before making a definite decision. I'm sure it's not my imagination- I have soaked through my knickers (sorry if TMI) and a maternity pad which I quickly retrieved from the car. It's clear fluid.... Oh dear, not sure what to do about it really. Guess I better go and wake up DH and tell him and see what he thinks.

Will keep you all updated. Will probably turn out to be a touch of incontinence and I'll end up being induced at 42 weeks!

EvianBaby · 14/02/2011 07:23

jeffily logged on quickly before nursery chaos and hadn't intended to post as not much time but I couldn't leave you lying on the sofa stressed in a house that isn't your own, and your post unanswered! What did your DH say? Why don't you ring hospital just in case and to either put your mind at rest or for some guidance on what to do next? At least then you're not worrying alone if that makes sense?! Why do these things always happen at the most inconvenient times?? Don't worry though, everything will be fine. You have time to get back to your hospital if you need to and at least DH is with you.

Must go as I am not dressed and need to get DS to nursery as I am at hospital appt this morning for c section v vbac decision appt-aagh! Take care, I'll check back as soon as I can x

TooImmature2BMum · 14/02/2011 07:46

Jeffily, the MW said to sniff it (gross, I know!) and if it doesn't smell like wee then it is probably waters. Anyway, to have soaked through a maternity pad already and not to be able to control it at all sounds like waters rather than either wee or discharge. Give your midwife/hospital a ring pronto! Echoing Evian about these things always happening inconveniently - best of wishes to you and LO, and keep us posted when you can.

xx

Muser · 14/02/2011 08:39

Oh wow jeffily, hope you get home ok. I know there can be a gap between waters breaking and labour starting, so you may have a day or two yet. But definitely sounds like our first thread arrivals are on their way!

I've been advising mine to stay in there a few more days as I think a Valentine's Day birthday would be rubbish. Don't know why I'm bothering, I'm sure this is a proper March baby.

mendipgirl · 14/02/2011 08:54

Wow lots of movements! Jeffily I think your waters have broken, I'd give the labour ward a call and see what they say.

seems strange not going to work today! But I am off to see the kings speech later!

My cramps seem to have stopped so guess not much is happening here!

Larty74 · 14/02/2011 09:05

Will be thinking of you today Jeffily!

sittinghippo · 14/02/2011 09:38

Oh wow Jeffily! I've got butterflies in my tummy now. How exciting. Keep us updated, I really want to know if you go ahead with the viewing at 10am or hot-foot it back home!

Thinking of you !!! Smile

1Catherine1 · 14/02/2011 11:13

Jeffily remember the average labour is more than 10 hours (As my NCT teacher says over and over again). Give the maternity ward a call. You might want to skip your appointment and go straight home and wait but you still have plenty of time to get home without being in a rush. Good luck!

Keep us informed!

OP posts:
rain1014 · 14/02/2011 12:47

Catherine1- You were talking about taking Ibuprofen and the safety of it in pregnancy.
Ive taken it through out all my pregnancies , Im a bio-chemist and know that only high doses cross the placenta and can cause harm to your baby , so taking one ot two every now and again is fine.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 14/02/2011 13:38

Rain - that is good to know as paracetemol just doesnt do it for me.

Jupiter and Jeffily - thinking of you both and hoping for the right outcome whatever that may be for either of you.

So, I turned up at the Day Assessment Unit this morning after my dad traipsed over to stay last night to look after DC only to be told that they can book me in for an iron tranfusion, so got monitored for a bit where DC3 went mental as he always does when on the monitor and am "booked" in for the infusion on Friday - DH day off so no more worry about DC.

Both DC have hand foot and mouth, DS2 has ahad it since last week but has scabbed over and i just googled and found out it is caused with the coxsackie virus so DS2 actually had it at the beginning of my pregnancy too.... DS1 now has it so is at home and will probably keep him off tomorrow and see how we go - apparently he would have been contagious before the spots showed themselves anyway.

To be on the safe side checked out any possible problems with pregnancy and if I am close to delivery the NHS website says baby could be born with it, but that it is likely to be mild and not cause any problems.

At least whilst I was at the hospital I was able to pop into the community MW office and book my 38 week appointment for next week and got prescribed folic acid too.

gem3225 · 14/02/2011 14:02

jeffily how exciting.

i thought something was happening on saturday evening as i had period pains that come over my bump, started really low and just rose up, had heat pillow and everything, i called the hospital and she said it was perfectly normal and it was because the babys head was engaging!!!

very exciting i just want it to come now x Smile

Larty74 · 14/02/2011 15:04

OOOOOH! I just held a 3 week old (boy) and he was so scrummy and tiny! Smile

Made it to Boots for some free parenting club offers. Naughty DH said we weren't doing anything for Valentine's day and ended up getting me a lovely mum-to-be pampering set from Mamas & Papas. So I went to the butcher for some filet steaks for dinner. Grin

My sciatica is REALLY bad at the moment - almost can't walk and considering asking for crutches which for me says something. Can anyone w/ past experience say if this is a long term thing or something that will pass after baby is born. Am I doing long-term damage if I don't get help? I am already doing physio and accupunture.

Ready to hear some news - anyone??

jeffily · 14/02/2011 16:29

We made it home! Grin

I rang the labour ward in the end and they told me to ring the local hospital- the one I rang turned out not to be the local one and advised me to ring another, but by then it was 9am, so we decided to go for the viewing and then hot foot it home. Drove all the way to our 10am viewing, only to get a call at 9.55 saying that they had to cancel it Angry as it was 30 mins off route home. Had a brief look at the outside and it looks lovely, so also Sad not to get to see it. Going to ask our lovely more local friends to look for us later in the week though.

Anyway, carried on home, more waters going- am sure that it is my waters now, definitely not wee. Got back about 3 and rang local labour ward, they reckon that labour will start within 24 hours of waters breaking- so by 5.30 tomorrow morning things should be happening. Am going into hospital this eve after I put DD to bed to get checked over- hoping not to stay in unless things get going though- it's impossible to sleep in those places (as poor jupiter has found!). Got my Dsis coming over to stay with DD just in case it is all night though, and she's on hand for tomorrow. Feels v odd, cos there is no pain or contractions at the moment, but I don't want to leave the house too much as I am worried about appearing to pee myself in public! Anyway, looks like baby illy might be making an appearance sooner rather than later!

My phone is one of those old ones with no internet and I know from the last stay that any forums/message sites don't work properly from the stupid hospital beds, but will do my best to keep you updated! Thanks for all your lovely messages and for keeping me calm this morning Evian- it really made a difference! Sorry for the me me me message- hope you are all keeping well and resting. x

rain1014 · 14/02/2011 16:56

Mix- No problem , Paracetemol doenst even touch sides with me if I have a headache!!

Ive been feeling really sick today, period cramps and very heavy pressure down below, the BH are becoming more regular and well all in all feeling like CRAP!!!

spaceal · 14/02/2011 17:41

Glad you made it home, jeffily and hope that the hospital goes OK later. If they do keep you in and it is all go, we'll all be thinking of you!

It does seem like everyone's twinges and aches and BHs and all are being ratcheted up. I've definitely been getting more BHs, and I had a horrendous bout of heartburn this morning. In the first trimester I used to get these heartburn attacks, about once a week, absolutely excruciating pain which nothing could touch, but which would just disappear a couple of hours after they appeared. I ended up in A&E, just before I worked out I was pregnant at week 5 or something, convinced I was having a heart attack. Hideous. Hadn't happened since about week 20, but got one attack last week and then this one today. They completely wipe me out, it's like the pain just totally drains me. And now I wonder how the pain compares with labour pain...

Not a great first day of maternity leave Sad

Otherwise we spent the weekend sorting out the last boxes following our house move, getting the nursery sorted, including putting up the cotbed we got from friends and the 'bednest' which we've treated ourselves/the LO to for the first few months in our room, and packing my hospital bag. Oh, and finding a taxi company that will take women in labour as my OH can't drive. Was a bit worried that we'd end up stranded, but our usual taxi company is OK with labouring women, it seems Smile So I think we're sorted for the little one to arrive, practically at least. Mentally it all still seems a bit daunting!

Hope the rest of you with pains/twinges/signs are doing OK. Take care!
