oooo now this is exciting!!! Keep us informed as much as you can Strangeways.

Oooh strangeways! ! Keep us updated!

DH seems to have snapped out of his weird mood today and is being more cheerful, although I had a dreadful night's sleep and am feeling grumpy myself today! We've started watching Sons of Anarchy (we're a bit addicted to silly series- I loved all of Battleship Galactica even when it got ridiculous!) and the episode we watched last night gave me horrid dreams and I couldn't get comfy at all and kept getting up for a wee. I'm ready to meet this baby now I think- 36+3 today so only 4 days to go to 'term', am trying not to get my hopes up that they will come before due date though otherwise I'll be even more pee-ed off if I go overdue!

Hope you are all having a nice weekend! We're off to the pub when DD wakes up!

Larty74 · 06/02/2011 15:15

OOOH this is all very exciting - these recent posts!

DH and I have just come from touring a very small and sweet community hospital where we could have our baby if we wanted. We both fell in love with it and the midwives there. It's only a 10 minute drive as opposed to 40 and we are likely to be the only ones there and while I've never really considered a home birth, it felt like a home away from home. What you give up is the option for epidural and all the things a hospital has in case of emergency, but we left there feeling completely confident they would know when you'd need a transfer and in plenty of time. If we book in there, we can still change our mind even on the day, so it's kind of a no-brainer. I really admire you home-birthers!

Also very ready to meet this LO and so excited to hear from our first-born here!!

KPidgeon · 06/02/2011 16:34

Sounds lovely "Larty* good find!

StrangewaysHereICome · 06/02/2011 16:52

Nothing much to report here - still niggling but not as regularly as before. I managed some sleep this afternoon and feel better for it. Just wish I knew what was happening one way or the other!

Larty that sounds lovely and like you say you can see how it goes and be flexible. I would definitely have chosen that option if it was available here.

Take care all x

Hattie05 · 06/02/2011 20:30

Jeffily i totally no what you mean about trying not to get hopes up about baby coming early, but its just impossible isn't it!

None of my babies have come early - in fact my first was 13 days late! But still i can't help hoping. I've had lots of bouts of Braxton Hicks - painful enough they take my breath away and i've thought at the time it could be the real thing. But now i'm getting used to that - i notice they come on after i've done a lot e.g. often when i get home from the school and pre-school run they kick off. Had a few this evening after i'd eaten too much roast dinner also!

Getting nasty cramp in the calfs now at night which i hate. I have to jump out of bed and stand flat on my feet to cure it, but boy does it hurt and feel weird! going to have a banana in a minute to see if it helps tonight.

I think my mw is bring my homebirth pack tomorrow which makes it more real, just gotta keep fingers crossed iron goes up when i next have test.

Larty sounds like a lovely centre! We don't have anything like that here, so i have to go for homebirth because i cannot stand hospitals!

Anyway good luck everybody, keep rested and well x

niamh29 · 06/02/2011 20:38

Finally got some stuff sorted this weekend, moved DD2's clothes into DD1's room cause eventually that will be DD3's room........complicated eh? That's the joy of having 3 kids in our 3 bedroom house. I also started my hospital bags and got down old newborn and 0-3 months clothes for washing, we have SO much newborn stuff, I dont even think she'll get to wear everything once.

So feeling a bit more organised now.....go me!

Hattie05 · 06/02/2011 20:47

Ha ha niamh, try 4 in a 3 bed house! I was doing as you say this time a year and a half ago waiting for dd3 to be born. Now waiting for dc4 we are doing nothing because there is nowhere to move stuff too! Shock AM just hoping to squeeze dc's 4 stuff into a bottom drawer somewhwere until we manage to win the lottery adn move house one day Grin.

Clothes are a nightmare arent they, i get so confused now in our loft, trying to label things up for each dd, but ending in a right muddle, we've ended up missing entire bags of clothes because they've grown out of them before i find them. Its the one bonus that this ones a boy, i can start again with buying the clothes! Not so good for the purse strings though!

EvianBaby · 06/02/2011 21:13

Ooh strangeways keep us posted on any developments (no pressure though!), I am so excited for our first birth! Grin

jeffily I'm pleased to hear your DS is feeling better

For those of us that are not sleeping properly I can fully empathise! I am awake most nights between about 3-5am! Something (anything) wakes me up, either needing to go to the toilet, hearing DS move, DH snoring and then I realise I have heartburn or feel uncomfortable and can't get back to sleep! 'Tis v frustrating!

Well this is the first Sunday night without having to think about work for the week. I have officially finished now (well have to go in for a half day on Tuesday) and so can relax until December - yay! I have a couple of days a week whilst DS is in nursery (didn't want to take him out whilst I am on Mat leave and disrupt his routine etc) and then the rest of the week to spend time with him.

Got loads to do still, will be 36 weeks on Thurs, still haven't sorted hospital bag, washed any baby clothes, sorted car seat, steriliser, monitors etc. We'll hopefully get sorted though before the baby arrives!

I am having a final scan a week tomorrow to determine whether I will be able to try for a VBAC or not. Last time I was at the MW it wasn't looking v likely as this baby is lying in a transverse position. I will have to wait and see, I'm not getting my heart set on either exit mode (!) at the moment, that way I won't feel upset either way.

There does seem to be a lot of breech babies on our thread currently doesn't there? Lots of time to turn though...

Larty the unit you went to see sounds lovely. The best of both worlds.

Oooh I wonder who will be first to announce their new arrival... it won't be too long now will it?

Enjoy your Sunday night everyone Smile

1Catherine1 · 06/02/2011 22:05

I don't think I'll be surprised if we have had our first thread baby born by the end of the week. There are quite a few ladies full term already or pretty close!

My MW commented on the last visit that my LO seems very happy in there which has got me a tad worried that I might be one of the last ones and be left here all alone waiting while bored out of my mind at home :( I am on the latter end of the list anyway. I've had no BH or even any type of tightening around my belly (which I read was common during sex - but not for me). So I hope that isn't a bad sign! I'm only 34 weeks though so I guess there's plenty of time. First antenatal class tomorrow evening, I'm looking forward too it even though my OH keeps telling me that "nobody does that sort of thing in Spain", not sure what part of "I don't care what they do in Spain" he struggles to understand!! :}

Hope we're all feeling organised now and prepared. I just wish I could make this time pass a little faster - am so impatient as I guess we all are. Time for my evening mug of raspberry leaf tea before an early night.

OP posts:
EvianBaby · 06/02/2011 22:38

Oh 1Catherine that would be exciting! A friend of a friend just had her baby on Thursday at 35 weeks (both mum and baby doing really well) and a close friend of mine was due just before me and had hers at 32 weeks (they're both fine now too). I must admit though, I am not ready for it to be me (see above re: general unreadiness/disorganisation!)

Enjoy your antenatal class Smile

Jupiter118 · 07/02/2011 08:25

ML yippee !!!

Now to try and sort out some baby stuff - we got stuff out of the loft yesterday - eek. Bizarrely seem to have lost all the covers and hood from the Moses basket - can you use it without???

Happy Monday ladies!

bluebeach · 07/02/2011 08:51

Wow your up early seeing as its your first day of Maternity leave!

I still have 2 weeks of work left but its not so bad as I work from home so I'm still in my PJ's!

I am really bemused by moses baskets. We have one from a friend and I have really struggled to work out all the sheets and covers and bedding. I'm sure the hood doesn't matter, could you just line it with a sheet that is securely tucked in....no idea really so hopefully someone else can advise you!
I'm considering putting the baby straight into the cot as the mattress in the basket just seems so rubbish and flimsy (even though I've bought a new one).

In fact lots of baby stuff is soooo confusing, we have a buggy but I have no clue how to put all the bits together. I think I might just be sticking to the sling!

Have a nice day everyone!

Jenchandler · 07/02/2011 09:25

Morning all!
Been up since stupid o'clock this morning, sigh! But I am still in my PJs and haven't done a thing yet! Need to crack on with washing baby clothes etc.

1Catherine1 - I know how you feel. I'd quite like the baby to come sooner rather than later. I'm getting impatient too.

Strangeways - keep us updated v excited to hear about the new arrivals.
have a good day everyone - I'm off to try and shave my legs Grin
xx

StrangewaysHereICome · 07/02/2011 09:35

STill here and still pg! Another night like the night before, lots of tightenings and more cramps for a couple of hours then fell back to sleep. DD1 woke me at 5am with a high temp and now diarrhoea so maybe I just have a bug or something which keeps making me go to the loo.

I have her home today so I hope things don't kick off! The living room is being decorated today too (bad timing I know, insurance claims can take a long time) so today would not be convenient for bubs to arrive! I bet I go overdue after all this but I hope not as I am feeling severely sleep deprived already.

Keep well everyone.

Shelbee · 07/02/2011 09:42

Morning all, sorry to post and run on Friday! I can't remember who asked, but I am due on 21st March and it is my first. We don't know what we're having - I can't wait for the surprise!

First day of maternity leave and it feels amazing! I was so worried about feeling a bit sad (despite hating work and being desperate to finish) but nope, not sad at all! I wrote the mother of all to-do lists last night and feel so excited about getting things done. I used to work long hours in a stressy job so the thought of having time to actually get things done is the best feeling!

Strangeways - good luck if the cramps do turn in to something, but hope it isn't today!

cherub59 · 07/02/2011 09:43

Last week of work, last week of work, last week of work....am practically skipping at the thought of only 9 more trips on the Central line.... still playing sardines and amazingly still have to ask for a seat even if I have removed coat and given full view of bump to all and sundry!
Anyone else find people on the tube "blind" to almost full term mums????
have been a rubbish poster but have loved following everyones stories!!

Medee · 07/02/2011 09:54

Is anyone else still waiting for their HiP grant? I?m chasing mine today, as I sent the form away at New Year, and most people seemed to get theirs in 2 weeks. Just waiting for a call back.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 07/02/2011 10:03

Hi all.

At last we have finally decided on a name. We shook on it over breakfast this morning.

We had ruled it out as we wanted diffeent spellings which IMO change the sound of the aname. Anyway Dh agreed to my way (which means we have 2 DC with same letter for first name - this was his objection) and I have agreed not to be too bothered about his family pronouncing it slightly differently.

36 weeks today, scan tomorrow to check size and consultant to discuss iron levels on Wedn so a bit of a baby filled week.

I think I am actually mentally ready for the baby now. I could do with some more babygros etc but c an certainly manage. I just want us to move forward, feels like everything is on hold. We cant book summer hol until baby is here and registered, my BIL is getting married in May and am under pressure to do the clothes shopping (asian shopping so this is serious business) but need baby to arrive before I can commit. Just want to get on with being a family.

StrangewaysHereICome · 07/02/2011 10:33

Wow lots of ML leaving starting - how exciting for everyone.

Mama I know how you feel, everything feels a bit on hold for now and I too just want to get on with it - but not today!!

Hope your legs survive Jen I tried mine the other day and had to give up!! I hope no one notices the half done look!

Jupiter it should be okay, as long as you have a mattress Wink!

TooImmature2BMum · 07/02/2011 12:10

Jupiter, first day of ML for me too! DH left for work at about 7 am, and I went back to sleep and only woke up at 10.45 - bliss! It was a long weekend with little sleep, because I was at my mum's and the strange bed did for me, plus we had friends round and didn't go to bed until about 3 am both Friday and Saturday nights.

I think we have a name too, Mixed - we had a long discussion at the weekend (complicated by 4 of my closest friends, my sister and my mum all putting their oars in. DH was very well-mannered, in retrospect) but I think we're there. It was very hard keeping the middle name a secret - it's going to be Mum's name, but I'm keeping that to be a surprise for her when tiny ickel gets here.

I'm trying not to hope too hard for an early birth too! I keep saying to myself that she might hang on until I have to be induced, which wouldn't be until 15 March...but then again she might decide to arrive this week! I'm 36+4, so really, she could come any time. I got a hotel mini-break as a Christmas present (dinner, B&B) and we're booked into the hotel on Friday night, so she better not decide to come then. I don't want to give birth in Glasgow! I want to be at home (near Edinburgh) for as long as possible and then go to ERI as planned. So far, I have absolutely no symptoms - no BH, no back ache, nothing to indicate I might go into labour.

It is snowing here - part of me is horrified, because it was raining buckets earlier and I have to take the dog out soon and it will be like a quagmire out there, and part is saying yippee, work will be dealing with hundreds of gritting complaints and I'm not going to have to field them! Grin

Larty74 · 07/02/2011 12:27

Funny reading about the name discussions over weekend. We had one about our choice, not for doubting it in anyway, but thought we should flip through the books to see if anything struck us in a new way, but alas nothing at all and still feel the same way about the chosen one! Smile

Baby week here as well: aromatherapy for birthing appt tomorrow, then swimming, midwife wed, and two nct classes - the extra is a breastfeeding course. I went to a free one that was on offer in my area last week and feel 100 times better about it - learnt alot of things I didn't yet know. I'm sure doing it is a whole other story, but will take advantage of all the help I can get!

Hang in there Cherub - your public transport stories make me Angry

Jenchandler · 07/02/2011 13:02

Woohoo, ML is starting for lots of people - YAY!!
Strangeways - hope baby doesnt come today then! My legs have survived, managed them stood up with leg propped up on bath! It wasnt easy..got to decide what to do with the old bikini line next!!

Cherub - I know what you mean about the tube. Its only very rarely that I get offered a seat and its very obvious I'm pregnant. It is very very rude!

I have just cleaned out 3 drawers full of old bank statements etc..feel like I have achieved something today now. Maybe its time to bake some cookies??

KPidgeon · 07/02/2011 13:24

Cherub- I'm the same- I have 19 tube journeys left. Very obvious bump but the good people on the district line are blind to it!

coraltoes · 07/02/2011 13:31

Hi girls!
been for mw appt. Been told baby more engaged than they'd expect at 36wks and that she may well appear sooner rather than later. Now over-analysing every twinge, and drinking raspberry leaf tea!! To be honest i bet she is overdue, and its all tosh but worth being prepared i guess!

Strangeways i hope all is OK! My midwife did say it is very normal to have pains during the night and then nothing in the day, so maybe it is just the body gearing up for the big day!

Kpidgeon/Jenchandler I am in the same boat, but on ML at least. Nobody ever offers a seat on the tube or on the bus...it really shocks me as I was always up on my feet at the hint of anyone needing a seat more than me.
