I'm a first timer and so far my back's been ok. The only thing is a weird pain down the centre of my pubic bone when rolling over Blush. It doesn't bother me when walking, just when trying to roll over in bed/on the sofa.

Laughing at the cat poo stories - especially the one about not looking under this piece of paper! Grin

I'm so not nesting yet! I am refusing to do anything apart from laundry until I go on maternity leave (only another week, yay!). I have big plans for de-grubbing the house then, though. DH doesn't like me throwing things out - he's a total hoarder, and I'm not very good at decluttering either, so almost every flat surface is decorated with piles of unopened mail/cables of some sort (do they breed?)/my jewellry/small DIY items like tape measures or stanley knives/gloves/tennis balls (courtesy of the dog)...it's not very toddler-friendly, although it will be a while until the baby is mobile enough to start reaching these things and eating them. I hope the nesting kicks in strongly enough to get me to actually do something about all this! I have a feeling I may wind up lying on the sofa a lot.

I measured my 'waist' and it is 43 inches - and I don't care! I'm not going to measure it after the birth for about 6 months, though.

Clucky31 · 31/01/2011 09:14

Morning ladies,

Hope you're all well :)

Just come on for a bit of a moan. Have got a horrible horrible cold and have dragged myself into work as it's my last week.
No seats on the train until I was halfway into London and nearly in tears (I know I should have asked someone but wasn't feeling particularly brave and was hoping that someone would notice and take pity Hmm)

Any one got any good tips for what I can do to make the cold feel better without medication?

xxx

StrangewaysHereICome · 31/01/2011 09:51

This thread is making me giggle at the moment Grin.

Ikea - hmmm I took DH once about 7 years ago and he said NEVER again!!! I love to go for a poke about but he absolutely will never set foot in the place again Hmm and I'm not brave enough on my own!

Loving all the nesting stories - my energy levels have dropped since I started serious cleaning but now finally DH has got the baby clothes out of the loft I can start the mammoth washing marathon. Going through the bags is quite emotional - so many memories tucked away in bin liners Smile. And crikey we have a LOT of pink, so if this one is a boy I will have to go shopping Wink.

DH has done a fantastic job of decorating DD's bedroom, it looks fab and they love it. Makes you realise how much the rest of the house needs doing! Maybe one day ...

The new pushchair should be delivered today, a new toy to play with. Once the washing is done I will feel a bit more relaxed. One more week before I am full term and the homebirth should be okay as long as Friday's scan shows bubs is head down. I had a few painful twinges yesterday which scared DH but they have eased off now. I have a feeling this one might be early, but I might be wrong.

Can't believe how the time is flying! Sorry for the ramble, hope you are all well and don't throw too much out!!

StrangewaysHereICome · 31/01/2011 09:55

Forgot to add, is anyone else feeling hungry all the time - it's like when I was first pg, all I can think about is food! I am also feeling rather grumpy so I was thinking about hormones and wondering all this might be my body getting ready - ooh err!

StrangewaysHereICome · 31/01/2011 09:58

clucky missed your post there - sorry you are feeling rough. If you are bunged up steam really helps so you could try that? Other than that keep drinking lots. Hope you feel better soon.

sittinghippo · 31/01/2011 10:16

Clucky, I had the dreaded 'cold' last week, barely dragged myself off the sofa for two days, so I feel for you having to battle with a commute! I managed to get by with lemon and honey hot drink, and a couple of paracetamol. I know you want the non medicine way, but those couple of paracetamol made the world of difference. Hope you feel better soon.

Am almost 35 weeks now, had 34 week MW appointment last weds, and my blood results are showing I'm low on iron. 10.2, I dont know how good or bad this is, but I've been advised to start some iron supplements. Receptionist at GP surgery said she will see if doc will prescribe so I dont have to pay for it, however I suspect not, so a trip to Tesco for Spatone is scheduled for this afternoon.

DH was made redundant just before Chistmas, so I have had him under my feet at home keeping me company since, and he finally starts a new job tomorrow - hoorah! so I am nagging him to get the last few bits of 'big' sorting and tidying done before he goes. I am so relieved as our money was really getting low and was beginning to panic about what happens if he is not earning and I am on Mat Pay. It will be a big weight off our shoulders at last.

strangeways I get the hunger too- I wake up and my first thought is FOOD!! Its almost painful how hungry I feel first thing in the morning.

Mmmm... cookie dough.... yes please Catherine

Medee · 31/01/2011 11:01

sorry to hear you are feeling low, Clucky.

Clucky31 · 31/01/2011 11:06

Thank you strangeways and sittinghippo

Strangeways - one week to go - wow! Hope you get the homebirth that you want.
I also seem to be hungry all the time. Have even taken to keeping a packet of plain digestives on my bedside table for when I wake up with the nibbles in the middle of the night!

Sittinghippo - Glad to hear your DH has managed to get a new job. My DH is also facing redundancy at some point over the next 12 months and there's a good possibility I may be made redundant too (public sector), so I know how stressful it can be.

Clucky31 · 31/01/2011 11:10

Thank you Mendee
Hope I don't go into labour early - all I can think about is how all my deep in through the nose out through the mouth breathing will be scuppered!
xx

KPidgeon · 31/01/2011 11:14

Hi all. Just been catching up with people's posts.. sorry to jump in with a selfish question but had my 32 wk appt. this morning and my urine came back with glucose ++. I'm going in for a blood glucose test on Weds. I've had a totally problem free pregnancy up until now so am a little worried.

We did have a fairly sugary day yesterday- loads of fruit salad at lunch time, soft drinks and then cake in the afternoon because we had people over. Do you think that could have contributed? Worried now about my diet- doctor said to cut out sugar & carbs. Totally fine with the sugar but carbs will be a bit trickier when I'm hungry! For the next few days I'll stick to it though to see what the blood comes back as.

Anyone else had this? Any advice gratefully received.

Sorry again to jump in with a me- me- me post.

Thank you.
K

jeffily · 31/01/2011 11:32

Hi all

We really are getting into the last stretch now! The friend I was out with on Friday who was due 10 days before me went into labour on Sat and had a baby boy after 3.5 hours! I am so pleased for her, and it makes it all feel real that we are going to be doing the same thing soon! Am a little Envy though as she was almost exactly 37 weeks and I'd love to have a problem free 37 week delivery- also they have called him my top favourite boy's name! DH says we can still use it if we want to, as we are moving away anyway, but he had vetoed it as a first name already.

K I had exactly the same thing in my last preg- a rather sugar heavy day on the day of the test and a ++ result. I had a second test, which presumably they are calling you for, and it came back totally fine. It sounds likely that it was just that, and nothing to worry about. I got a bit worried about gestational diabetes, but even if it does turn out to be that, if they find it then the risks can be very effectively managed and you (and baby!) will be fine anyway. Easy to say, but try not to worry!

lozario my DD is 22 months and I was still carrying her about lots until Christmas, but since then have started a 'mummy can't pick you up, mummy will give you a cuddle or you can stand on a chair next to her and help' rule and DD has taken it really well. I was very worried about it, but really glad that I've done it before the baby arrives now. She has even stopped asking to get up and just says 'cuddle?' now. Is your LO a good walker already? If so it might be worth thinking about starting that with him soon.

Am still cracking on with raspberry leaf tea. Trying to avoid sweetening it too much as am just making half cups and chucking it down as fast as poss. I don't really mind the taste, but would definitely chose earl grey over it!

We think we could have found a bargainous place to rent in the w country- are heading down there next week to have a look. Am really hoping we get it sorted soon as am finding the whole moving thing hard to manage on top of the impending childbirth! Keep wanting to sort and organise things in the house- not sure if that is nesting or getting ready for the move. Am managing to chuck things away too, which is not AT ALL in my nature as i am a terrible hoarder. But I went through my baking stuff this morning and thinned it down by about 33%, so am pretty pleased with myself.

Well, DD is being really good and entertaining herself with a big pile of books [proud as punch smiley] so am going to go and get on with preparing some lunch. Have a nice day all!

KPidgeon · 31/01/2011 11:43

THANK YOU Jeffily. I hope it was just a result of a sugar-heavy day. And a timely reminder to me to hold off on the cake. I shall eat salad and protein only as a penance for the next few days.

I've really been enjoying baking in my free time- but it will have to be for other people!

jeffily · 31/01/2011 11:55

Oh, don't do that k. I don't want to be alone in the consumption of huge amounts of cake and chocolate. Sainsbury's have a deal on toblerone at the moment and I have eaten a whole one every day for the last 3 days!!!! If they tested my blood now, I think it would be almost pure chocolate!

I'm sure you'll be fine Grin

1Catherine1 · 31/01/2011 12:24

Sittinghippo, I think making cookies was a bad idea - I couldn't resist eating the uncooked cookie dough even though I was well aware of the raw egg that was in it :( Once cooked though they were lovely. My OH loved them too as they were Vanilla and chocolate (vanilla is his fave and chocolate is mine). I only cooked 10 cookies and got enough dough to make another 20 or so. Will save it for next time I get tempted.

Hope everyone suffering from colds atm start to feel better soon. Must be dreadful. Seems to be something going around the department atm and I'm hoping it skips me as knowing my luck I'll get it right as the 4 weeks before due date commences and I'll end up having to argue that my absence is not pregnancy related.

Kpidgeon don't worry yourself too much. I'm sure like Jeffily says it'll be fine. I don't know how you stomach much carbs anyway tbh as it gives me terrible indigestion. I also read (in a book so it must be true) that indigestion medicine can prevent your body absorbing iron as efficiently and since my iron levels were cause for concern at my last appointment I'm doing my best to avoid the medicine best I can. No gaviscon in 3 days - although 2 rennie tablets :).

coraltoes · 31/01/2011 12:43

KPidgeon good luck for the glucose test. DOnt cut back on everything though...a little cake is always good for the spirits if nothing else :)

jeffily i'm massively envious of your pal too! Not only would a 37 week arrival suit me perfectly, but 3.5 hour labour?! Oh if only....

strangeways if i'm not eating i'm thinking about eating at the moment. I thought at 35 weeks my stomach would have shrunk enough to not demand constant attention, but it seems thats not one of the side effects of pregnancy for me. I've stocked up on loads of fruit and yoghurts to at least try to balance out the biscuits and chocolate!

I am usually super prone to catching colds and bugs. However since being pregnant i havent had a single cold! Amazing! Sometimes i might feel a bit bunged up for a night, think "oh heck here it comes" but be fine the next morning. I count my lucky stars though, as suffering without being able to turn to lemsip must be a toughy. Good luck clucky and please do ask someone for a seat - hunt down the priority seats maybe??

coraltoes · 31/01/2011 12:45

oh btw ladies- best remedy for heartburn/indigestion is (and i have been scientifically testing a lot of varieties) VANILLA ICE CREAM. seriously. cooling, milky, and alleviates that feeling of burping fire pretty much instantly.

1catherine i'd hope it wouldn't interfere with iron levels either! So far better than gaviscon!

KPidgeon · 31/01/2011 12:48

Thanks ladies. Just had an exciting tuna & edamame salad with no dressing for my lunch. YUM! My doc even warned me against bananas so no dessert for me. Hurrumph!

Wanted to say fingers crossed for the new rented place too Jeffily. I'm a hoarder but my husband is worse than me which means I have to throw stuff away and I say DO IT! AS soon as it's gone you won't ever think about that stuff again, honest. It feels great to clear it all out- and make room for your impending new arrival!

I keep checking online for rental places in E. Grinstead- we want to move straight after the baby arrives and the places online now will not be available then. Doesn't stop me from checking every day though!

OBEM again tonight- yeay!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 31/01/2011 13:05

Afternoon ladies.

I am going to try the vanilla icecream... i seem to have horrendous heartburn/indegestion every single night and sometimes it even makes me vomit. DH keeps saying milk, but i really am not a milk lover at all but vanilla ice cream now that could work.

Yesterday I also developed (the name completely escapes me) but the sticky eye condition witgh loads of gunk. Anyway I knew what it was and had to get up 3 times in the night to clean my eye as it was stuck shut - have got some drops today (clearly when I actually remembered the name of the condition).

Had to go for a blood test this morning relating to iron levels. It was 8.9 last time so the 10.2 is not too low I dont think. I did get told by my previous MW with DS2 that Spatone contains just a fraction of the ferrous suplhate stuff - i hate it though makes me really sick and nauseous.

Anyway moanign and groaning over - take care everyone and speak soon.

PipPipPip · 31/01/2011 13:30

I've been feeling a little sorry for myself as I have thrush, a urine infection and a cough simultaneously.

Nonetheless had a good weekend.

I had a party at my house yesterday afternoon and all my lovely friends arrived with homemade cake - even though I'd said I was catering! I tried to give people 'doggy bags' of cake to take away, yet the house is still full to the rafters of cakes, flapjacks and biscuits.

Hopefully I don't need to do a urine test soon or it'll be PURE glucose!

KPidgeon · 31/01/2011 14:00

Pip - definitely have a glucose test whilst your caked-up to make me feel better Grin

mixedmamameansbusiness · 31/01/2011 14:43

mmmm cake.

i remembered -conjunctivitus. how annoying forgetting ridiculous things.

I am glat I am not alone with wanting to eat and having absolutly no willpower around chocolate cake. My downfall are those cadburys caramel cake bars. I would normally buy the cakes in the purple tubs but they no longer sell them so I have to pay for 3 layers of packaging too. Grrr.

As for the GTT - I havent been called to take it myself but I have heard you do feel rather unpleaseent afterwards - like beng drunk and hungover - just a word of warning.

As for me I want to EAT EAT EAT but having a tiny sromach does not help. Had a big lunch and am not feeling too great 4 hours later!

Its not long now - I wonder when we start to pop!

Muser · 31/01/2011 19:09

I have been eating stupid amounts of cake and chocolate. I have ordered a lot of fruit with my online grocery shop in a vain attempt to stop.

I am in my final week at work and am officially excited. I have definitely had enough of commuting and commuters. I don't mind not having a seat as often sitting makes my back hurt more and a fast train home is only 15 minutes. However, it really pisses me off when people try to barge past me to get off the train. Firstly, because I'm getting off too, so just bloody wait. Secondly, this bump aint going anywhere, it's solid. It does not like being pushed.

Larty74 · 31/01/2011 19:31

i'm in the chocolate cake/fruit club as well. bought loads of both shopping today. how funny!

TooImmature2BMum · 31/01/2011 20:07

I'm so glad everyone else is on the cake and chocolate too! Shame have finished ice cream...

I have the same feeling about eating - I will be starving but then after eating I feel so swollen and uncomfortable and heavy. It is not making me stop eating, though - I just regret it afterwards. I didn't even eat that much this evening and I still feel like that, but I did down a pint of water and that seems to have done it.

You poor things with the colds and conjunctivitus and high glucose! Imagine the horror of being told to avoid all sugar, even bananas! Sad Some sort of super-cold is going around at my work too - 6 people off at the moment in my section. I hope I can avoid it, at least until Friday, so they don't insist on me starting mat leave early (I'm going off on Friday, but I want to use up my annual leave first, so my actual mat leave doesn't start until 28th).
