yukana i promise you that the only people who will judge you will be jealous. However, i am older than you but looked young when preg with dd 1 i was 25, but looked your age. I had to change mid wife as she was so snotty with me. I'm just trying to say if anyone is hostile or doesn't take you seriously in your care, then you can change them.

Yukana · 25/01/2011 13:07

Leil
Inbetween Weston Super-Mare and Bristol, a place called Wrington. Whereabouts are you? It's nice to see a fellow Somersetter. :)

MrsChemist · 25/01/2011 13:09

Mmmmm.... Pancakes.

I might have to make some now.

KLou111 · 25/01/2011 13:10

Doughnuts, I WANT DOUGHNUTS!!!!

KTisPG · 25/01/2011 13:10

Welcome Yukana. At least you're not worried you're a geriatric mother, like the rest of us LOL.

Hmmm doughnuts [bbiscuit] Grin

Leilandri · 25/01/2011 13:11

Yuk I know Wrington! I used to live in WsM until June, I'm now in Taunton (currently living with M-I-L Hmm) as it's closer to friends and family. Very good to see a fellow Somersetter. I found WsM hospital, and midwives, to be great with my DS even though I eventually birthed in Taunton.

Currently eating beetroot sandwiches and a wispa for lunch - balanced diet right?!!!

Yukana · 25/01/2011 13:13

MrsV
Thankfully I was very relieved when my midwife turned out to be absolutely lovely! She even apologises when she takes blood tests, bless her. I'm sorry to hear you had a nasty midwife, there are some out there but thankfully few. I actually plan to be a midwife myself in the future, always loved the idea of it, so when I have the time will work towards it. :)

On another note, all this talking of donuts and pancakes makes me want them! I have a craving for chocolate croissants at the moment, too.

Klou
I do love Questiontime, the News, and pregnancy/birth story programs. Blush It's about the only thing I watch on the television!

Firawla · 25/01/2011 13:16

mmm donuts and pancakes!! i want some now

yukana there's nothing wrong with your age, as mrsvidic said if people judge maybe they are jealous (or maybe just an idiot :p) there's positives and negatives to anything, and can be quite a lot of good things about having kids young. i had mine youngish, with my oldest one was 21 (not that young really but as the average is about 30 some people thought it was lol)

Yukana · 25/01/2011 13:17

Leil
My brother lives in Taunton, although I must admit I've never actually been there! DP and I are hoping to move to a place with a train station, (Yatton), so perhaps chatting over coffee is in order. :)
My midwife has also recommended Weston to me, been there a few times with various issues, lovely people. Sadly I hear they don't have a working birthing pool though.
Very balanced indeed. Grin

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. :)

Hersetta · 25/01/2011 13:57

Mm warm doughnuts!!

I was shopping on Saturday and walked past two young girls who were each ploughing their way through a bag of 4 hot doughnuts each. I swear to god I nearly mugged them!!

I have two hospital appointments tomorrow so will be 'working at home' for the day. I have a consultants appointment and an appointment with a haemotologist as apparantly I may have to have daily blood thinning injections (hope not).

Well done everyone on all the scans.

Kt as you asked what people would do I will tell what we have done and would do again, although apologies if it upsets anyone. I mentioned earlier I have had a trisomy 13 pregnancy some years ago which was clear from my nuchal even prior to my cvs. We terminated the pregnancy. prof nicolades did my cvs and said 'you will have more children but not this child'. I had never expected to be in that position and was shocked really that for us the decision was actually easy to make, even though heartbreaking. As soon as the consultant said the baby had a condition that was incompatible with life we knew what we would do. Anyway to reassure people our situation was rare so I hope I have not worried anyone too much.
On a lighter note I am wondering if we are due another heat wave this summer. My daughter was born in Aug 03 and it was sweltering.

MrsStevo · 25/01/2011 15:07

WoW! Lots to catch up on!

I will post in more detail later but have a pressing Q for you all:

Does the FW8 / maternity exemption card thing cover opticians prescriptions?? Just having my glasses re-glazed as we speak and have to fork out £100 if it isn't covered Confused

Leilandri · 25/01/2011 15:10

MrsSteveo Sorry to tell you that no, the maternity exemption does not cover optical. Only teeth and prescriptions :-(

MrsStevo · 25/01/2011 15:19

Oh Boooooooo! Thanks for the speedy reply tho leilandri !

Hersetta · 25/01/2011 15:27

Good news in our household as I've just found out our company are increasing their maternity benefit. Now instead of 13 weeks full pay, I get 26!! Woohoo.

I only got 6 weeks full pay with DD (different company), so this is fantastic news and may mean I can have longer off.

I think I can cautiously say I am out of the sicky stage. God it was awful, but I've been feeling good since Saturday and that in itself is something to celebrate.

It's really good to hear that so many of you are also feeling better and are embracing being able to eat again in the way of doughnuts etc! I have been feeling guilty when I have been eating food that is not 'healthy' but I don't want to keep feeling that way. I want to eat doughnuts too!

I haven't had my scan date yet but I can't wait to get it.

Teladi · 25/01/2011 15:30

cross posts with Hersetta - that's great!! I really need to look into my company's maternity package, I think it is better than statutory but not sure by how much...

KTisPG · 25/01/2011 15:36

(Hugs) Majormoo

Just had a visit from my mw, did all the form filling etc. She didn't fall off her chair when I said I was considering homebirth again which is good. I will be referred to the consultant midwife at around 28 weeks as I had shoulder dystocia with my first so I would need a "plan" if I decided on homebirth or MLU. I'll go and look round the MLU (new since my DC) at around 24 weeks and decide then.

LadyGoneGaga · 25/01/2011 15:37

Fab news, Hersetta, that's really good. I only get 6 weeks at 90%, then SMP. Luckily though I still get company car allowance which pretty much double my SMP which helps massively. Am taking the full year anyway...even if we have to live on beans on toast!

KLou111 · 25/01/2011 16:44

Now I bloody want beans on toast!!!!!!!

Yukana · 25/01/2011 16:59

I have good news as well. Went to look at a house today - DP and I both love it! It's my first place of my own, very happy that it was so lovely. The thought of sorting everything out to move in though makes me nervous!

LadyGoneGaga · 25/01/2011 17:11

LOL Klou. I can't eat them as the wind is just too painful to bear!

Great news on house, Yukana. We have two houses to sell so hopefully we can move to a bigger place before baby is born. Otherwise we are going to be a bit squashed with 4 of us in a 2 bed. Although we will manage! Would be lovely to sort out a room for the baby though rather than just a corner of DS's/mine.

KLou111 · 25/01/2011 17:49

Fab news Yukana go for it!!! Makes you realise how much stuff you've got when you move too :)

bettyboo83 · 25/01/2011 18:07

Bellamys I've been frantically trying dresses on this month whilst I can still get into the samples! Taking the bridesmaids with me on Saturday to make the final decision. Don't need to have the fittings until about 8 weeks before the wedding so should be ok, fx. I can always stitch in some elasticated panels, worse case scenario . . . Hmm

KLou111 · 25/01/2011 18:16

lol pancakes betty I must say, they were very nice :)
