New thread here for those final few weeks (fingers crossed!)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
gallicgirl · 17/01/2011 14:51

awww does your neighbour know where the cat is? My sister's cat used to go missing and it turned out the kids a couple of houses down were feeding him ham and salmon in the hope he would stay with them!

I didn't realise it was so late - no wonder I was hungry. Suppose I should go shower and dress in the hope I get some motivation to get off my bum and do something constructive.

Baby monitors arrived today so had a little play and discovered they block the wifi signal to the router so it looks like the DP will have to have a play when he gets home from work. Wifi has been a pain ever since we changed ISP. Somehow the speed has dropped from almost 2MBps to less than 0.5 MBps Hmm

We have 2 baby monitors thanks to a communication failure involving the BIL so if anyone hasn't bought one yet, just let me know!

gallicgirl · 17/01/2011 14:53

Hi salt

Where are you putting the pineapple? not sure that will help your piles Wink

Have you tried it with crushed mint and a bit of castor sugar a la Jamie Oliver? It's surprisingly yummy.

saltnvinigarcrips · 17/01/2011 14:56

lol at gallicgirl Grin
Actually have some mint so will try it that way.

Also cupcakes meant to comment that your dream sounds horrendous!!! eugh the thought!!

gallicgirl · 17/01/2011 15:09

Just crush the mint and castor sugar together in a mortar and pestle (or small bowl) and sprinkle over chopped pineapple. It's really refreshing.

CupcakesHay · 17/01/2011 15:29

LOL @ where are you putting the pineapple? Brilliant!

Poor you about the stpid tescos order salt - I wrote ranty email to halfords last ngiht about the car seat bascially saying - Can you actually be botehred to reply to any of my emails? Finlly got a reply - but yeah, i used a similar "I could drop any day now" - it's my fave excuse. I was parked on high street earlier - in loading bay - to nip to cash point, and woman said "You shouldn't park there" - so i gave it "I'm 38 weeks pregnant, and i've been told I need to take it easy - an i'm only going to bank..." Smile - Not long now, and we'll be able to park in those4 baby & parent spaces. I think my dad is more excited about that than the actual baby! Grin

saltnvinigarcrips · 17/01/2011 15:40

Seriously am I the only person on this thread with piles? :( Will have to start my own new thread for piles in pregnancy Wink. Some sympathy please - i'm having to side sit on the floor rather than on the sofa

Shanster · 17/01/2011 15:41

Mmm, that pineapple/mint combo does sound tasty gallicgirl, will try it out here too. Although I am hoping baby can stay put for another 8 days until my Mum arrives to look after DD. Dads are supposed to stay with you in the hospital here for at least the first night and I really don't have anyone I feel I can ask to take DD overnight unless I absolutely have to.

salt, don't despair on he piles front, mine were awful last week but the suppositories actually worked so still worth a shot. They'll for sure be back after labour but at east you might get a few days respite.

Long weekend here, DH has gotten up with DD every morning so have had 3 lovely days where I slept until 8am. It is so lovely to get some rest, soooo tired with this pregnancy. I was full of energy with DD1, now I realise this was not normal! Had a terrible week last week, it was announced at work on Thursday that we have "merged" with our biggest competitor, from what I an see it appears more like we have been acquired. I am freaking out about having a job to go back to, not the kind of stress you need at 38 weeks, especially since I seem to worry about everything more so than normal right now. Trying to just put it all to the back of my mind and focus on the baby but is very hard to do.

AmIGoingMad · 17/01/2011 16:12

I've just woken up after listening to the hypnotherapy CD again- I don't think I made it any firther in than last time before nodding off Blush
Poor you shanster- you certainly could do without that sort of stress right now! Sending lots of sympathy
salt poor you also! I'm sure that them lasting that long after the birth must be a rare thing?! Can you get one of those cushion things that we're all hoping we won't need after the birth? might make sitting a little more comfy? I'm sure I read somewhere that pushing them back in helps? But please don't do that on my advice in case its my dodgy memory trying to create a memory instead of admitting that I remember nothing anymore!

cupcakes thanks for the video links! Agree with you on the dodgy one! Grin And congrats on the higrchair ordering!

I'm also amused that running isn't allowed to take part in the sweepstake! Maybe you should quote some of the things we've been saying over the past few weeks on due dates and the like!

Have also realised that I'm not as actively trying to bring things on as some on here- probably my nerves! Have started on the raspberry leaf tea- mostly a cup a day- but that's it. Need to start the pineapple and curry and up the number of cups per day of raspberry leaf. What are you all doing?

gallicgirl · 17/01/2011 16:58

Well the curry didn't work so I'm about to go out on a hunt for a pineapple.

I've been drinking raspberry leaf tea for a few days but I don't think it brings on labour - it just makes contractions more efficient.

I just don't think my daughter is ready for budging yet [sigh]

CupcakesHay · 17/01/2011 17:38

Sorry salt no piles here - but I had them once in my life, adn they were tiny - and it was soooooo painful - so big sympathy. if it cheers you up - I have a tiny bit of thrush - so hoping that will go before M/wife on thurs - otherwise i'll be bringing that up with her. my friend was given a pessary at 38 weeks as the Doc told her it was safe Hmm - and she went into labour the next day.

Poor you shanster - that's the last thing you need to worry about. Are you protected whilst on mat leave? On the plus side, you might be able t ofind another job that suits having a baby more? But def not ideal timing.

Love your hypnotherapy nodding off AmI

Well - i've had busy afetrnoon - facebook farming, painting my nails - not toe - need DH to top up glitter as def can't reach there now, reading one of the books I bought for baby. It's fab -it's a chunky dinosaur book - says it's for babies - with pics of dinosaurs and names written underneath including Quetzalcoatlus ??? No idea how to pronounce that one! Grin

And then watched countdown, Doc Martin - and now weakest Link.

Off to pub quiz tonight - hurrah! Might even have a small beer. Do you think, if i went into labour tonight it would be frowned upon that i'd have had half a beer? Hmm

Ok - does raspberry leaf tea actually taste of rspberry - cos i hate that taste - but I figure nearer the time - I might have to just do it like shots!

gallicgirl · 17/01/2011 17:57

It tastes mildly of raspberry but it's not a strong flavour. It's not sickly sweet or anything either. I quite like it actually.

Not gone to shop yet Blush. Wrote list and decided I'd like DP to help so I'm waiting for him to finish work.

Interesting fact about the pessary there - wouldn't mind labour starting soon!

LadyBuzz · 17/01/2011 18:35

Well i'm all packed (I hope) just need to charge my phone and remember my mat notes.

I'm really looking forward to meeting my little lady Grin

My plans for tonight are to spend the next few hours eating as i'm nil by mouth from midnight - I am always starving in a morning so i hope there isn't too much waiting around.

salt ouch for you, hope the cream helps.

cupcake I would so love to be a fly on the wall when you go into labour with the mickey ears Grin fab!

I will try and post when I have news but my phone is awful and I don't know what the hosp facilities are like.

So hope everyone is well and I will be back as soon as I can!

travispickles · 17/01/2011 18:47

Good luck Ladybuzz!!

Pootle78 · 17/01/2011 19:35

Good Luck ladybuzz is it appropriate to say lie back and think of England? Hmm

Not had a chance to read todays updates but thought I would hop on as lady may be reading!

Saw midwife, all ok, next appointment booked for 2nd February when I will be 41 so told her I hoped I wouldn't need it.

Policy around here is sweep at 40 + 8 or 9 and induce between 40 + 10 - 12

Off to play IT consultant to dh (having problems with mail merge!) and cooking dinner, which I can't remember the last time I did it!

Will be back later to catch up on the rest of the day!!!

OP posts:
RunningKatie · 17/01/2011 19:39

Best of luck LadyBuzz :)

Cupcakes - raspberry leaf tea I think is quite bland tasting but I drink a lot of blackcurrant tea which seems a bit tastier. And don't they tell you to have a shot of vodka before the birth to relax you? Definitely have a beer Grin

Anyone else risking OBEM tonight? I thought I might watch it with the aid of some ear plugs this week, but I think it features a water birth.

Been feeling really sicky this afternoon/evening, thankfully seems to have passed again as I couldn't face that for the next 6 20 days.

Think tomorrow I'm going to buy a pineapple, this is a first in itself.

travispickles · 17/01/2011 21:02

So annoyed at OH. Just asked him to spare 5 minutes to look at the breathing link so he can help me and he has got all arsey saying am trying to ruin the magic. Am tempted to tell him I don't want him there the fucking idiot! Ruin the bloody magic! Angry

RockLover · 17/01/2011 21:07

I'm not actually trying to bring on labour as I am just not ready for it yet, think I'm happy to wait for my due date at the moment.

Made a roast chicken dinner today which was nice, although now I feel over full even though I didn't have anywhere near as much as I would when not pregnant. Then I left a good portion of it and I am rewarded with a grumbly, unhappy tummy and heartburn brewing. Nice!

I am watching OBEM, but not sure why because it's bound to scare the shit out of me Confused.

Good luck for tomorrow Ladybuzz, hope all goes smoothly for you.

gallicgirl · 17/01/2011 21:17

yeah my DP isn't always great about trying things that might need practising some or doing stuff that I think needs doing before baby arrives.

I'm watching OBEM for laughs. This one lad admitted he'd underestimated the importance of contraception. PMSL.

Oh and the DP has insisted I sit on a maternity pad whilst on the sofa. gggrrrr.

Good luck tomorrow ladybuzz. I really hope it all goes well and you'll have your baby to cuddle soon.

NoLadyButManyBubbasAndBumps · 17/01/2011 21:23

just popping in to wish ladyB lots of luck for tomorrow, will be thinking of you :) No time to read all your posts the rest of you as am still on super slow wap phone. Hopefully catch up tomorrow if virgin media do what they're supposed to! Good luck hon x

saltnvinigarcrips · 17/01/2011 22:09

just watched OBEM and thought it was a bit better than last week. Everyone seemed to cope much better with the pain than the lady last week. I'm hoping to have a water birth. Gosh, that second woman made it look easy didn't she - and the younger one. Please please let me have a nice labour like that :)

gallicgirl · 17/01/2011 22:16

I'd quite like to look like lydia after it's all over Grin fat chance seeing as I've never looked anything like that even at 22!

Much more realistic births I think. Some of those midwives would wind me up a bit.

saltnvinigarcrips · 17/01/2011 22:24

Ha and I couldn't believe it when the sister peuked! Made me laugh and cry at the same time. I was with my sister when she had my nephew and I was totally overwhelmed by it all so I do feel for the men.

CupcakesHay · 17/01/2011 23:42

thank god for pub quiz on a monday - def couldn't watch OBEM! You're all braver than I am!

Had small beers - and ate 4 packets of snacks! eeek! And we won pub quiz thanks to me sticking to my guns on the picture round! - ok - i only got 3 points extra, so not just thanks to me! but still.

Aaah - ladybuzz - i know you won't be reading this til you have DD - but I agree with pootle's brill comment - lie back and think of England!

travis I tasked DH to read up about labour and breathing - and he didn't so i told him on phone today - he HAS to watch the links - i gave him 6 about labour and the breathing - i said i'll be panicking so i'll need his advice. Guarantee he'll get here on the 26th and wouldn't have seen them - so not just you. Bloody men Angry

Aaah - love your DP gallic - what a charmer Wink

And poor running and rock with your dodgy tummies.

Tomorrow - if not raining - i'm going back to Asda at Newton Abbott to buy the otehr cheap top i saw (why didn't I get it when i saw it?) and my mum needs more wool.... but if raining then I'm going to go swimming in the afternoon.... so exciting my life!

Oh, and DH sent me a sweet text earlier saying that after weeks of being OK - he's finally Hmm getting lonely and looking forward to seeing me. that's the best i'll ever get out of him - not a romantic type, but c'est la vie!

Anyhow - bedtime I think.... let's hope i'm not up at 8am watchign glee tomorrow morning - although baby would be happy!

RockLover · 18/01/2011 09:13

Morning all! Fingers crossed for Ladybuzz first of all, she must be in that excited/nervous state :).

I'm just back from the school run and tucking into some toast and a cup of tea....without sugar! It's a miracle, but at the moment I seem to prefer tea without sugar, which I could never stand before, BUT it has to be strong Yorkshire tea and very hot.

I have yet more laundry folding and washing up to do today, along with watching lots of crappy day time tv. And I might just fall asleep on the sofa for a few hours like I did yesterday, it did me good for a change.

Hope everyone else is having a good morning.

Fuzzywood · 18/01/2011 09:22

Morning, tea and toast sounds like a fine plan Rock may have it for my second breakfast when I get back from the mw.
Still no movement here, means my dad is convinced it's another girl as apparently women always keep you waiting Smile.
Should be a nice quiet day for me as DD is with Grandma, my MIL is fab! Have a good day all x
