A shiny new thread for a shiny new year. Grin

Zero I recommend something like this which you could buy in your current size (get measured again) and as the cups are flexible it should be ok. I have a few from Anita and they are very comfy - not sexy at all though Grin

PDR · 15/01/2011 18:47

Calculator here if you can get "someone who knows" to measure you?

ZeroMinusZero · 15/01/2011 19:08

Ah, thanks PDR, that should help a lot :)

snowangels1 · 15/01/2011 19:24

zero I'm hoping to go to rigby and pellar on mon to get a couple of nursing bras so will report back what advice I get (they are usually v clued up on all things bra related). I'm sure I've read you can get them from about 36 weeks but they need to be very roomy for growth with all that milk.

40Weeks · 15/01/2011 20:57

Hello again

Yes I have heard Rigby & Pellar are the nuts. And bravissimo. 37 weeks should be about right to get measured, from what i remember. And hotmilk do sexy ones once you know your size

suzym1984 · 15/01/2011 21:45

Hi everyone,

I have bought some nursing bras from Mothercare, apparently there needs to be at least 3 clips to go around the back (so maybe go up a back size) and 1 cup size bigger for one your milk comes in. I bought 2 anyway and figure I can also go back a few weeks after the birth if they dont quite fit. Our hospital MW recommended waiting til 37 weeks to get fitted.

I also bought a lovely soft cup bra from Next as I have been wearing underwire up until now (naughty me!).

DH and I installed our car seat and Isofix base today, very exciting! I actually feel like we are getting all sorted now. Does anyone else have a HUGE amount of stuff packed for hospital? My 2 bags are huge (almost suitcases) and they are bursting at the seams! oops!

I cant remember who asked about the Raspberry Leaf Tea...I got it from Holland and Barratts, it's really nice.Apparently 2 cups a day should do the trick.

Oh, and my TENS machine arrived yesterday, I tried it on and it felt really weird! However, I have complete faith in it and believe in the power of the mind, so fingers crossed for me Grin.

Hope everyone is enjoying their evening and that we all manage to get some sleep tonight.

ledkr · 15/01/2011 22:57

angels sit on your hands!Dont go poking about "up there" ouch.I think the feeling in your vagina(im so mature dont you think)is pressure i get it a bit, keep thinking its my water coming down.Been for a curry yum yum.

whispers dh is on the phone to mil,so far they've covered grand dads bad toe and then the arsenal results oh yeah and then finally asked about big ole ledkr, grrrrr. Is it me?

varicoseveined · 16/01/2011 08:11

Hi ladies, thanks for all the support!

I have a wonderful baby son who weighed in at 5lbs 6oz via emergency c section on 14th January, I'm still on the ward and he is in NICU but doing v well. I'll post the full birth story when I'm discharged from here :)

snowangels1 · 16/01/2011 08:36

horrah for update from varicose and big congrats. Have been thinking about how you got on lots :) Have you got a name chosen yet?

ledkr even my usually very good PIL have been annoying me lately - MIL has taken to asking how 'my granddaughter' is alot to me (ie my bump). Feels like she's taken control over the baby being hers. Probably completely irrational but does get on my nerves. There has been lots of biting lips and counting to 3 going on in this household in general recently (prob by DH as well as me tbh).

roundthehouses · 16/01/2011 08:40

congrats varicoseveined! glad he arrived safe and sound, hope you are both home soon. very exciting news!

its a beautiful sunny day and it is Sant Antoni (its always some kind of saint or another here!) which is the day all the animals/pets get blessed so we are going to dh´s home village to join in. Well, watch. Not taking our cats, not sure they would appreciate the thought though people do take cats, hamsters etc in cages along Grin

hope you all have a lovely day!

Oneof4 · 16/01/2011 08:50

Congratulations Varicose! Lovely news.

Grannyapple · 16/01/2011 08:53

Congrats varicose hope u get lots of cuddles r home v. soon!!

Guess i'd better get my ass into gear & get the hozzy bags sorted Blush

suzym1984 · 16/01/2011 09:14

Eeeeeee Congratulations varicose glad to hear you and your little man are doing well!

suzym1984 · 16/01/2011 09:19

Quick question.....what clothes have you ladies bought for your little ones? E.g. how many vests, babygrows etc, and what sizes?

I seem to have bought all newborn but no 0-3, is that wrong?

JustOneMorePlease · 16/01/2011 09:32

Congratulations Varicose lovely news to see on this Sunday morning. Hope you are all home very soon.

All good here, DH working away at moment so home alone with the 3 dc's. Think a slobby sofa day as much as poss is in store! 5 weeks to go as of tomorrow! Eek!

Suzy I have loads of baby gear due to all the babies! I think you need 6 or so of each vest and 'grow's they wash and dry so easily. I'm sure you'll be inundated with clothes when baby arrives.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 16/01/2011 09:46

Congratulations varicose hope he's out of NICU really soon and you can both go home Smile

Phew, lots of stuff has been happening on here!

angels OH and I had 'marital relations' a couple of nights ago but I just couldn't stop laughing at the absurdity of it, I'm just too uncomfy and big to even sleep let alone do that again. I'm kind of curious to know if I'm dilated at all but can't say I want an internal.

zero I was buying nursing bras yesterday and they're actually quite comfy. I got a cup size bigger than necessary and bought them in debenhams as they had a sale on Grin

wiggles How's your knee? I hope you're resting!

suzy I am the worst person to ask about baby clothes I think as this baby won't be wearing the same outfit twice now that my DM has gone nuts discovered ebay! Seriously, I've had to tell her to stop as I already have a pile of clothes to sell because they won't fit in his drawers. I'm sorted until 6 months.... I am grateful really, first grandchild and all that Wink I have plenty of newborn/ 1 month/ 0-3 month/0-5 month/2 month stuff. She did however find an amazing changing bag for £10 which is perfect.

I'm looking forward to getting my TENS, OH wants a go but I've told him it'll strip the hairs off his back if he tries it Wink so now he's not so keen thank god as I don't want him mucking about with it.

I couldn't sleep at all last night and had such bad backache I almost convinced myself I was in back labour (oh the drama!). Seriously though, has anyone got any tips other than flippin paracetamol and hot water bottles/ baths? I'm going to be awful at giving birth aren't I Confused?!!!!

ledkr · 16/01/2011 09:56

well done varicosegreat news.
I still feel very sureal reading about births and having 5wks left etc.I do hope we can all stay in touch i honestly dont know what id have done without you lot.
angels thats how i feel tbh,p,s and bil all speak to dh on the phone about the baby and i just feel like im providing something nice for everyone, sod what i have been thru and the effect on my career, social life and body. Then i have to put up with them desending on us when its born and again its like-"we know leds had a big op and feels shit but we are coming to see the baby"
Better not come this week tho cos its dd birthday and we are seeing Matildsa the musical Friday and then she is having a sleepover Sat,if baby come in the week and they want to come at weekend they will have to go to a t lodge cos im not having dd's birthday overshadowed.
God im moaning earl.

Can i share my sleep solution with you all.Loads of soft pillows piled up and i put my head and shoulders on them so im propped up,i then slep on either side, lavender on my pillow and 2 paracetamol before i go to sleep.I have had 3 fantastic nights now try it.

40Weeks · 16/01/2011 10:03

Brilliant varicose! so pleased for you, hope he is home soon.

Thanks for the tip Ledkr, will try that tonight. Still in Pjs about to do some baking with dcs. Dh found a hedgehog living in our outhouse this morning. He is so excited, it took him 18m to put up a pic I bought him for our wedding anniversary but has built the h-hog a new house already!

janedoe25 · 16/01/2011 10:21

Morning all, nothing new to report im just waddling along! Congrats on you baby boy Varicose hope he gets out of NICU soon.

Im so lucky to have fab in lawsa, however it is my older sister causing me all sorts of problems, its a loooonng story!

40 weeks sounds like my OH im still wainting 2 yrs for him to put the new bathroom flooring down!

Oneof4 · 16/01/2011 10:28

Lol at the hedgehog palace, 40weeks. :)

ZeroMinusZero · 16/01/2011 10:42

Thanks for bra advice everyone. Will try to hold on till next week before I spend any more money.

suzy most babies will find 0-3 slightly large at first, but equally, they will grow out of newborn quite soon (assuming they come out average size and grow at an average rate... is probably very different for premature babies). We have about four or five vests and babygrows at newborn size and then the rest is all 0-3. But as long as you have something you can just figure it out when the baby arrives and play it by ear, especially if you have someone who can go out and buy clothes for you.

snowangels1 · 16/01/2011 11:00

OMG OMG slightly paniked here and hoping someone will reassure me. Last night I got these sort of sharp pains at what felt like bottom of uterus (ie where baby starts coming out of) Shock] . It felt like they only happened when baby moved in a certain way though so put it down to baby being stuck in dodgy position. They were quite intense to the point of tearful though.

This morning had them again in the bath, and, again, put it down to baby moving oddly (feeling was only the sharp pain type - bit like when I think she's engaged and I walk only worse). Then, when I got out the bath I got it again but this time noticed top half of bump all hard.

Are these what to expect from BHs? (never really had proper ones before) I hope it's nothing more. DH (from all his knowledge of reading 'pregnancy for blokes') just told me it's BHs but I'm a bit {shock] Confused . Help!

EauRouge · 16/01/2011 11:13

The hard bump sounds like BH. I get sharp pains sometimes too, I think the baby is headbutting me in the cervix, DD did it too. I don't think it sounds like labour, that starts more gradually with period-type pains or at least it did for me. I'd just take it easy and see what happens, don't plan any long trips just in case Grin

earlgreyismynectar · 16/01/2011 11:18

Congratulations Varicose on the arrival of your boy! Hope he's out of NICU soon & you're feeling fine too. Look forward to hearing your story! Take care!

Gosh I can't keep up with this thread, it's really moving now!

I'll vouch for the lavender to help with sleep Ledkr, 1-2 drops on my pillow or in a diffuser in the evening and it knocks me out and I wake feeling I've had a really deep sleep! Great as 4.30am has been my regular wake up time for too long! I'm planning on using lavender in labour too as heard it can really help.

No marital relations here either though it's a combo of DP either being away or not up for it when he's home!! Severely grumpy hormonal moments haven't exactly helped. Still, 2-3 weeks after baby arrives we move out of this flat and haven't yet bought anywhere to live yet so quite a lot happening! Grin

Was fitted for a Hot Milk bra a size bigger than I need just now and have a couple from last tome that'll do.

All baby clothes ready to go, still to pack hospital bag but have everything I think. Still nesting but it's taking AGES..

Tad, 2.5cm dilated sounds ready to go! Exciting! Good luck! I have my midwife appt tomorrow so hope to hear that baby is now permanently head down. Feels like it is and should be after all the ass in the air positions I've been getting into on a daily basis.

I have no photos of bump yet, I'll get DP to take a pic when he's home next week & I'll be sure to check out everyone's! Best get dressed & do something vaguely constructive now.

Happy Sunday ladies!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 16/01/2011 11:22

Sorry about the pains angels, it does sound like BHs but if you're in that much pain then please call your mw for reassurance. I've had sharp tightenings where it's felt like I've been scratched inside, if that makes sense, and a very hard bump. If it's any consolation then I think they're a good sign that things are working and your body is warming up for the big event Smile
