HG I'd was all of the sheets/ blankets/muslins, newborn and 0-3 now while you have time to. That way it's a job less to worry about when baby arrives, especially if a big baby. I'm only taking newborn stuff to the hospital. Though as wiggles says, check the label to see what size it goes up to. The mothercare stuff is pretty big, where Next is tiny! Newborn stuff is under 8lb, which I only realised once I'd washed it, but luckily only have one three pack. I hope I get a small baby just for those babygros as they are so cute haha

Urk, mine is into the pc (though i must say has been amazing about not playing much since ive been ill and needed the help) and also drives me mad with army crap everywhere! Why oh why do they need so much stuff!? I swear he has about 10 pairs of boots, not to mention countless outfits for different activities/times.

Highlandgirl · 02/01/2011 16:32

Wiggles I was 18 Mr HG was 24...! My father not happy Grin Can't help you with itunes, change his password

I've got a range of stuff..newborn says: 8-12 lbs, another to 9lb 14oz then 13lb! Confused Think i'll pack a few bits and maybe the odd footloose grow just in case!

I have a older cousin who's finished having children but kindly give me everything...and I mean everything!! Crib and cot sheets, sleeping bags, about 40 muslins and clothes right up to 18 months. I've got 4 boxes, filled with either pink or blue..hate to think how much money she's saved us...! So kind. Some of them are quite worn but i don't care..they are all so tiny it's amazing!

snowangels1 · 02/01/2011 16:38

ledkr I'm with you that people used to stay in hospital so long after birth. My Mum can't believe that some people go home the same day after straight forward birth. Apparently my gran had to stay in for 3 weeks post having my mum (no surgery needed either) and my mum had to stay in for a week with me. Think they just want the beds back quickly now.

knitta I asked DH if he wanted/would be prepared to come in if I needed csec as not sure how we would take it but seemed keen (not quite the right phrase!) to stay with me.

I'm in the process of packing hospital bag but sure I've overdone it in some areas and not at all in others. I've got my gym bag for my 'during birth' and a massive carrier bag (like the biggest ones possible you can buy from shops - I got mine from a french supermarket and it's edging on the big ikea bags you get in its proportions) for 'apres birth'. Got allsorts in there - corn flakes Blush (I have a special diet and need special cornflakes!), towels, breast pads (just how many will I need???), ipod (no speakers yet though), one of those headache sticky things you put on your forehead as I just know it's going to be hot in there and that might cool me a bit, lots of different bottles of drink and goodness knows what else. I am the sort of person that packs the kitchen sink just incase. Must remember to charge and put in the camera though.

Great for a new thread :)

Still unpacking here and (touch wood touch wood touch wood) seem to have been sleeping longer since moving - maybe it's all the energy of moving everything. Still not unpacked but I'm making an awful lot of moaning and sighing noises when walking around to make sure DH realises how hard it is just to walk up the stairs now!

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 02/01/2011 17:20

Wandering scans are notoriously inaccurate WRT baby's weight so I wouldn't give it much credence! Yes I'm due 31st of January so 4 weeks left tomorrow! . I'm switching from feeling panicked about the birth to feeling serene. It's mad. I think I've got the same date as you Ledkr, have I heard you mention that you've had a previous c-sect? So have I and I'm going for a vbac this time, is that what you're planning?

knittamerrykid · 02/01/2011 17:24

angels am sure most men would, the issue is dh reacts very strongly to things that 'society' says he 'should' do... not that he's a bad person at all, and I know he'll be wonderful dad, and that plus being a bit squeamish about doctors/blood/knives is not a good combination. I don't want to cause some kind of trauma, so as long as it's not a 'medical procedure' he'll be there, although preferably not looking at the business end, I do want my sex life back afterwards.
Good for you to be sleeping a bit more, you must be exausted!
Highland I know what you mean, we just got given a cot and will pick up next week lots of clothes from family, don't know what would have done without everybody! specially all the tiny clothes that are only worn for a couple of months.

tadjennyp · 02/01/2011 19:01

I only have one NB babygro as I noticed it said up to 8lbs and ds was 8lb9 when he was born. That's just the brand of clothes I've bought over here though.

Yy re dh and consoles - 3 am he got to bed last night and of course I woke up every hour because he wasn't there. To be fair he is currently painting the bathroom while I look after the dcs MN and they watch a DVD. Grin

Anyone else taken down their tree yet? The local scouts come round and collect trees for recycling this weekend for a donation so I took everything down last night. Next year I will have to get a bauble for the new baby!

roundthehouses · 02/01/2011 19:47

Hello, I have been lurking a lot since i popped my head round the door quite a few weeks ago but hope its okay if I try to join in a bit more?

I am due 21st feb so 33 weeks tomorrow.. working til the end of jan and really hoping it flies by..

Anyway i hope to be able to pop in more often and join in the chat. happy new year!

wigglesrock · 02/01/2011 19:58

tadjennyp I've had my tree down from New Years Eve, before the dcs I used to take mine down on 27 Dec Blush I love Christmas but the tree sitting there with no presents looks really forlorn. I've a bauble for each of the girls first Christmas and it suddenly occurred to me I'll have to get a new one next year.

I got caught out with dd2 and newborn clothes, I had bought quite a few newborn (8lbish) babygros and she was 8lb8!! (quite a bit bigger than dd1) So I've tried to keep around the 9-11lb range, although I am having real trouble finding any neutral colours.

EauRouge · 02/01/2011 20:17

wiggles Tesco sell plain white babygros, you could always dye them if you wanted to. DH bought some baby clothes the other day all in pastel blue because he knows I hate pink- but I hate pastel blue too, I like bright colours for babies. Ah well, he likes them. The flat cap may mysteriously go missing though Grin

40Weeks · 02/01/2011 20:53

wiggles I have also had trouble getting neutral clothes, everything is pink or blue so think I will just use what I have. Most of it is 0-3m though as ds1 was 9lb7 so didn't fit into the newborn stuff. Thanks for the tips about different brands though will keep an eye out for larger newborn stuff. Ds2 was 8lb14 so cant imagine this will be a small one unless early!

Warning - this comment may gross you out:

Was feeling quite confident about birth but then today had a really painfull poo! And thought OMG it going to be far worse than this AND there will be someone looking! Oh gawd am not feeling all earth mothery at all now Shock

40Weeks · 02/01/2011 20:55

Sorry roundthehouses haven't exactly given you the warm welcome I had hoped there Grin

WanderingInAWinterWonderland · 02/01/2011 21:16

Hi Roundthehouses welcome back! Grin

We finally got some of DD's old things down from the loft yesterday. I loved looking through them Smile so cute! Some of the things are immaculate and don't look worn at all but she has some gorgeous 0-3 month summer romper suits and soft dungarees which I don't know whether we'll be able to use again as it probably won't be warm enough Sad. I suppose the romper suits could be worn with trousers over and a Cardigan.

WanderingInAWinterWonderland · 02/01/2011 21:30

I'm also not sure what to do re newborn clothes Confused. We didn't buy many for DD as everybody said to us: "don't buy much newborn stuff as they're not in it long and everybody tends to buy you newborn clothes when they're born!" Well nobody gave us anything newborn! Grin Everybody seemed to buy us bigger sizes, which was fab but although DD was 8 lbs 7.5 ozs and filled her newborn clothes quite well straight away, she seemed to stay in newborn size for ages! She was always long but skinny so she always seemed to be a size behind, if that makes sense.

I don't know how much more newborn stuff to buy because I'm not sure what we'll use seeing as this baby will be born in a different season. I want to make sure I have enough though as it's a PITA when they do a runny poo/be sick on their clothes and there's nothing to change them into!

PolkaDotRudolf · 02/01/2011 21:45

Evening all! I'm back!

Had a fab time away over New Year - DH did lots of stuff with DS and generally had a lovely relaxed time. Spent quite a bit of time in the pool bobbing around so have got my money's worth out of my maternity swimsuit!

Have not had time to catch up on all the posts since I left but has anyone else had their baby??!

I made some headway with my hospital bag this evening and now have mat & breast pads in there Grin Ordered some lucazade with my online shop as well so can put that in tomorrow. I am going into nesting mode.....

Put one wash of baby basics on so if he arrives early he will not be naked and he will have somewhere to sleep Grin Grin

I hope everybody had a good New Year's Eve and is not feeling toooo uncomfortable! I have had 5 rennies tablets tonight - they don't seem to be working any more!

wigglesrock · 02/01/2011 21:50

wandering Same thing happened to me re girls, my mum kept telling me not to buy newborn clothes, we'll get loads of presents. We did get loads of presents but all in size 6-9 months Smile

There was a while with dd2 where I was constantly changing her clothes, bibs, my tops etc and I keep mine in babygros for ages, she was a bit sick, I changed her, then a bit sick again!!! oh and the up the back poo!!! how I'd forgotten them Wink

Tarlia · 02/01/2011 21:56

wandering You could always put plain tights and long sleeve top & cardi with the dungarees?

WanderingInAWinterWonderland · 02/01/2011 23:48

Yeah that's a point Tarlia! I suppose we might well have some nice weather in April or May when they might fit, I'd just love to use them again, they're so cute! [excited emoticon]

Welcome back PDR! Glad you had a nice time away and a good NY! Smile

No, no more babies as yet but I'm sure there will be soon! Grin

OP posts:
WanderingInAWinterWonderland · 02/01/2011 23:53

OMG, yes! Up the back poo! Bleurgh! When DD was tiny she wouldn't poo in her nappy though - she would wait until I had taken it off Angry.

It's bad enough when it's your own child but I used to CM a little boy and his nappies were horrendous, even at the age of two! Changing a child that is not your own is horrible!

GinaFB · 03/01/2011 01:43

Hello to all! I was on the thread a while back but thought I'd let you know that I had a little boy today 4 weeks early! Was due 1st Feb!! He's 5lbs 8oz but doing really well!! My best to all the Feb Mums!

TallulahBelly14 · 03/01/2011 02:46

Wow, huge congratulations Gina! Very very jealous you get to meet your little one so soon, I can't wait! Hope it all went well - looking forward to hearing about it when you're up to it.

Keep 'em coming ladies!!

tadjennyp · 03/01/2011 04:03

Congratulations Gina - that's amazing news! My dd was only 6lb4 at full term so your little boy will be fantastic! Yay, another one here!

Dreya · 03/01/2011 04:09

Hello all. Congratulations Gina! I am due on the 1st of Feb. I had a sharp shooting pain tonight which stopped me in my tracks and made me scream. I've not had any pain at all before today and baby has been very active since so I can't sleep. Now every hour I'm getting rhythmic pulses which last about 2 minutes and then stop. They are only sometimes a little painful. This is my first pregnancy so I'm assuming these are Braxton Hicks?! My hospital bags (I have two - one for moi and one for baby)have been packed since November!I am never usually so organised. I'm just so excited! Not long to go now ladies! Smile

tadjennyp · 03/01/2011 04:13

That could be BH but in me that's usually a tightening of the stomach. Keep an eye on what's happening and if they get more frequent then don't hesitate to phone the labour ward!
