A shiny new thread for a shiny new year. Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
snowangels1 · 07/01/2011 19:26

I'm so sorry for hogging thread (making up for lost time!), but I'm getting quite worried about my pin prick tests (for GT - which I haven't been diagnosed with, I just didn't want to take GTT so have to do pin prick tests 4x day instead).

Started doing then at 28 weeks and for 3 weeks every reading was always in normal range. Over moving time I was quite lax about it as it was always OK so felt a bit pointless, but have started up again over the past week and for the first time quite a few of my reading are off (ie in the 8's - 9's, pretty much exclusively after bfast reading). I thought initially it was just my breakfast cereal, which I changed to one lower in sugar and helped, but now I've just got a 9.3 reading after dinner (never had an off reading after dinner before) and had no pud or anything. Anyone who has GT tell me if it's normal to have off readings? I haven't been able to contact diabetic nurse due to no phone/internet and now it's week end I can't until next week and starting to panic a little about all these off readings Confused . I have been v hungry and feeling very sick if I don't eat very frequently - maybe I'm just eating too much???? Prob is I've tried to limit food but just feel really ill so just try and be as healthy as I can manage.

PDR · 07/01/2011 19:38

Great news Wiggles :)

ledkr the doctor sounds a bit odd Hmm best get checked out by the midwife to be on the safe side!

angels glad the move went OK! We moved in April so I know what a mission it is!

lostfronoz my right foot is swollen now and I am getting a lot of cramps in my calves - not just as night now but during the day as well :( When is your next MW appt?

We are now home from London and the proxy nesting continues Wink Have got a "man who ccan" coming on Monday to touch up paintwork and put some shelves up in the garage so I can put all manner of very important stuff crap on them Grin

Got a few bits at the shop this morning - a really sweet snowsuit type thing from babyGap in a kind of cream fleece type material.

To those of you getting a cup holder for the bugaboo is it for your cup or a toddler's cup Confused Maybe I need one too shopaholic but I never walk around with a drink for myself? Maybe I should?!? I don't drink coffee though maybe I could put a bottle of water in it?!

ledkr · 07/01/2011 20:16

bloody headache.Did someone mention they have been getting them recently. With the higher bp and slight protein,i am a little cocerned.

ledkr · 07/01/2011 20:17

oh sorry, whole point of coming on was to say Hey Angels welcome back xx

wigglesrock · 07/01/2011 20:19

Yes still basking in clever baby vibes, although it could be a case of "careful what you wish for" as I am now being absolutely battered by movement Grin

angels great to hear from you again, keep taking it easy, try not to worry about the pin prick tests, my mil has to do them and sometimes she has a run of high (8-9) readings, although I think this is if he has too much fruit/fruit juice etc, what are you drinking?

PDR · 07/01/2011 20:23

ledkr when are you seeing MW again? Do you have a BP machine at home (seem to remember someone did). If you are worried I would ring MW tbh - with not long to go these symptoms would concern me a little too. What was your BP when last measured by the way?

debka · 07/01/2011 20:42

angels just read on pregnancy board that having a cold/flu can give you raised sugar levels- are you a bit under the weather? Could that explain it?

ledkr · 07/01/2011 21:26

pdr its normally 110/80 and it was 138/90 mum has a machine will check tomorrow.Bit weird i thought wwhat with headache and the protein too.I couldnt catch hardly any wee in bottle either (fat belly makes it difficult, anyone found this?) he literally had to lie the strip down in a trickle,so may not have been accurate.I will ring in tomorrow if i still headachy.
Visitors def banned from hopsital, has anyone checked yet,it cant be just mine.Have told dd and promised to phone her and send lots of pics and film.

silver lining tho,dh is going to tell pil that im in until the 21st and no visits allowed at hospital so no point coming down to stay until the following weekend OH JOY OF JOYS i will have a whole week to recover. All of you who have listened to my rants i thank you, raise a glass to the visitor bann!!!

wigglesrock · 07/01/2011 21:42

Ledkr raising a glass to the visitor ban, and the de-railing of in-laws. I haven't checked my hospital yet. I had a wee issue today, I bring a sample to midwife appt and usually use a jug/bowl and transfer to sample bottle at home. But was out all morning with Mr Wiggles and girls, had to go directly to midwife, tried to wee into sample bottle in public toilets, would have been quite funny had it been happening to someone else Grin.

tadjennyp · 07/01/2011 22:26

Well done ledkr's dh! And wiggles baby! Hope you get some answers about diabetes soon angels. Sort of question we would have relied on prof to answer. I did pm her but haven't had a response. Hope she is ok.

Anyone else having sore nipples? I thought that wouldn't happen till he had been hanging off them constantly but woke up this morning and they were so sensitive! Sorry for tmi.

PDR · 07/01/2011 22:38

My nipples are itchy as hell! Just put some of my very expensive night cream on them in a bid to help!!!!

Re: holidays 2011 we are staying in the UK - fortnight in Cornwall in May/June, long weekend in London in July and a winter break at Center Parcs in December. DH is going for a week to visit his family in Africa in June but I will be staying at home with the children as the baby will be too young to be vaccinated against all the nasties! Envious of those going abroad!

Tarlia · 07/01/2011 23:27

Sorry ladies, giggling at the trying to aim into those stupid sample bottles. Luckily over here we pee into disposable drinking cups but I often still have issues finding the right spot after having already started! The one thing that annoys me is they insist it's a fresh sample so you have to do it in the surgery, fantastic if you get stage fright or like me have to waddle all the way there desperate to go with a head between your legs!

Ledkr, I'd def call the MW for a chat if only to put your mind as ease. your bp on one occasion isn't too much of a worry, but the headaches and protein is :/ Did they make you rest for 20 mins and take your bp again?

Welcome back angels

PDR hot chocolate? Water?

lostfromoz · 07/01/2011 23:29

Thanks PDR.I have had cramp all the way along, it's actually a bit better now. Don't know what this mysterious non working foot is so I guess I will call gp. Not seeing midwife till end of Jan. Have good weekends everyone

roundthehouses · 08/01/2011 06:34

morning!

don´t know much about GBS I am afraid but they do swab for it here in the 3rd tri and if you have it then they do give antibiotics for it as soon as you go into labour.

ledkr - My blood pressure has risen steadily from about 103/63 at checking in to 137/87 at the visit before last. I thought that seemed high but no one seemed too bothered. They told me they don´t really worry until about 145/95 (internet says 140/90 i think) but that if I started getting headaches I should pop to the pharmacy and get them to check my bp there and if it was that high get along to mw right away for her to double check it. If you still have the headache might be worth getting double checked.

wiggles - yay on baby turning! great news.

NEEDTOSLEEP and other emetephobes DON´T read the next bit.

cat sick - urgh - i don´t normally have too much of an issue with it but there was one day a few months ago when one of the cats had been sick in about 6 different places and as i was cleaning it ds weed all over the bathroom floor (really unusual) and I ended up being sick re. all the bodily fluids. had to cover remaining piles with paper until dh got home. My only puke in the whole pregnancy Confused

ledkr · 08/01/2011 08:37

morning all.round the housesthanks re bp,it was the rise that worried me tbh, that and gp lying on my notes about measuring fundal height Confused
God i know what you mean about the over load of body fluid,im ok but a mix would kill me,i remember when i was nurse training i was being assessed giving a bed bath and the man began to "go" as i was cleaning his bum.I tried so hard not to be sick and was swallowing it down but then he weed too and i was sick out of the window Blush i changed my specialty to mental health soon after haha
I got up early as my hips were aching and poor dh is so tired atm i think he doesnt sleep well cos of me weeing and turning over every 2 mins to get comfy.I thought id let him have along lie in.

snowangels1 · 08/01/2011 09:18

urgh ledkr what a lovely image to start the morning with Confused. Hope bp is OK, mine was measuring high a few weeks ago and they told me anything over 140/90 they consider high/needing more monitoring, and they told me if I had any other pre ec symptom I had to ring the labour ward as I might have to go straight in for monitoring to check all OK - so do try and get it checked out. Also, I have a bp monitor machine I was using to self monitor but one mw told me (after the event) they are useless if they arn't calibrated (which mine isn't) to check they are correct, so don't rely on those machines solely.

Interesting re: flu jab and high blood glucose. I've felt OK since mine other than achey arm and checking through mny results that would account for quite a few of the off results (well, those other than my hidden sugar packed bfast cereal). Have 30 mins to next test and crossing fingers it's OK.

Re: sore nipples, I read that you should try and avoid any kind of soap/shower gel etc on the nipple area in pg as it will dry them out and make them sore. Something about how they produce natural oils or something. Might be worth a try and see if it helps at all but tbh I gues it might just be something we have the joy of putting up with [unknowing first timer emoticon]

debka · 08/01/2011 09:21

O God I foolishly ate half a bag of fruit pastilles before bed and was STILL AWAKE at 1.30pm. Finally got up at 8.30 but feel like crap, PLEASE no-one let me do that again...!!

ledkr · 08/01/2011 10:01

deb i was on the fruit pastilles last night too and didnt sleep well either.
Baby is very quiet today and thru the night, dont you just hate that.Off to dopple.
Angelsdid you see my post re in laws cant impose themselves on me now cos of swine flu no visitor bann-thought youd appreciate the sentiment Grin

snowangels1 · 08/01/2011 10:11

Yes ledkr forgot to say about that - great news for you re: inlaws Grin Grin

My pin prick blood test this morning STILL high despite only having ultra healthy low fruit muesli for breakfast (just how much can muesli raise your blood sugar?!).

Lulabel27 · 08/01/2011 10:52

I haven't had a group B strep test done - I have a doctors appointment on Wednesday (38wks) so will ask then...? Bit worried now!

snowangels1 · 08/01/2011 11:03

Just read your hairdressers comment lulabel . Made me Grin. DH and I usually come up with a code word we can use on each other when out if one of us wants to go home, but never thought of using it in labour. Strep b isn't routinely tested for in UK so chances are most people here won't be checked for it. I only got positive result through routine thrush swab as have thrush recurrantly in pg and they wanted to check it was nothing more. I know there's a company that does it privately through the post for about £20 ish pounds alot of people use (forget the name) but think it takes a week or so for results. Don't think it's something to worry about unless you have any specific issues relating to it (don't think you do but may have missed a post), but would be interesting to see what GP says.

Btw just where is prof? Don't think we've heard from her since pre christmas. Hope all is well with her LO. Maybe she's desserted us for her other thread [crying emoticon].

wigglesrock · 08/01/2011 11:12

Am stopping feeling smug about the baby turning now. Made the same mistakes as before, ran around yesterday with girls, took them to museum (don't worry they're not that highbrow, its the dinosaur skeletons and gift shop they go for Smile) Ran to midwife, took dd1 to gymnastics, didn't eat, Mr Wiggles is on nights, so had no dinner, stayed up too late, didn't sleep well. Now feel like death, have vomited all morning, just want to sleep. Feeling very sorry for myself, am heading up to parents so grandad can help out Grin

ledkr · 08/01/2011 15:13

What is up with you ? wiggles I know you have dd,s but ease off a bit now you sound like me constantly trying to be a good Mum and do nice stuff with them.DD said to me today that she would like to just spend time in the house playing with her toys so that suits me.
Went to the hospital cos headache so bad and started puking. My bp had gone down but protein in wee gone up.I have slight fever too.Monitored baby and all well, did blood tests for pre eclampsia and let me go home but will ring with results.I have to go in on Monday for a check.
Dh was putting up dd tv on her wall yesterday and he has drilled right thru to baby's room!have not decided on my choice of weapon as yet Grin

snowangels1 · 08/01/2011 15:23

wiggles just reading what you did yesterday made me yawn from exhaustion and slightly weak at the knees - SLOW DOWN!

ledkr keep us updated on the blood test results, hope all is ay-ok. Bet you wern't impressed with big hole in the wall. I've noticed in all the moving the only things to get broken have miraculously been only mine (nothing of DHs) Hmm . I think there could be something suspicious going on as we have very different tastes and are always trying to get rid of each others junk (obv my stuff is lovely and tasteful as opposed to DHs massive collection of pewter dragon/knight style ornaments and odd repro sword/armour pieces which I have a big dislike toand tbh am slightly scared by Blush ). I'm hoping that once this baby is able to talk and walk she will gain an instant like to my things and dislike to DHs - then he will be outvoted and things might 'accidently' get lost/broken :)

40Weeks · 08/01/2011 17:00

Afternoon

Hope all is ok with results ledkr and that you are feeling better.

And you wiggles you need to rest up and let Mr Wiggles take the helm for a while, if possible.

Have got stuff out of loft and am washing baby clothes today. Can't believe how small they are. Feeling a bit more organised but also MASSIVE. Loads of BH and just want to sleep, wish I could have a nap.

Hope you are all having a nice weekend and no more cats are puking. Mine ate some twine about 2 weeks ago so just waiting til that causes an issue.
