Roundthehouses, my midwife today commented that she thought my bump had dropped (certainly getting less indigestion) but this one is still very much exploring it's uterine home & although is head down a lot is equally breech a lot too! Don't know if that helps, have no idea either!

ZeroMinusZero · 06/01/2011 22:02

re: fundal height. I don't think everyone measures it as it is known for being pretty unreliable. I have read that smaller practises where they might know you quite well (do they exist???) will be less likely to bother with fundal heights.

To whoever is going to Ibiza (sorry, can't remember who it was) are you worried about the baby being too hot? We ruled out the Med on account of it being too hot but if babies can cope with it then we might reconsider.

wigglesrock · 06/01/2011 22:28

zeroMinusZero I go to Ibiza, have been several times with dds at various ages and while I've been pregnant with dd2. We go in May, my dds are only 5&3, so I keep them in the shade between 12-3pm. I've always been really careful with the heat/sun, us being Irish and our infernal blue skin and aversion to the sun Grin but we've always been fine. Use shade, parasol with the buggy and just stay cool, we stay in a hotel/complex that also has an indoor pool so keeps girls occupied without actually being outside Grin

I think I've been measured once re fundal height at my last midwife appt (about 4 weeks ago), I seem to remember with dds not being measured either until end of pregnancy, at last appt midwife measured bump from top to bottom, said perfect and that was it. Due to see her tomorrow so will see if she does it again.

tadjennyp · 07/01/2011 04:31

I'm having to have a heartbeat monitoring test every week here in the States because I'm old! I haven't had my fundal height measured though. My baby is lying transverse and I'm hoping he just pops his head down over the next couple of weeks or they'll just do a c-section.

Keep the holiday plans coming - I'm feeling all sunny just reading them!

Oneof4 · 07/01/2011 06:01

I've had my fundal height measured at the last couple of appointments and have consistently been a couple of cm below expectations, but she said that at best it's only a guide and as everything else is spot on there's nothing to worry about. I'm sure toilet-paper-Tuesday is far more reliable as a growth measure!

Deliaskis · 07/01/2011 10:46

Morning ladies, can't believe it's Friday again and tomorrow another week will have passed for me (my DD is a Saturday) and I'll be one week closer to having,...you know...an actual baby.

The last two nights I have actually had quite good sleep - I've taken to going to sleep in bed, waking up at 1am, not being able to get back to sleep, wandering the house with my pillow and usually ending up on the sofa, and then getting from maybe 1.30 until 5.30 straight through (which is a novelty based on the past few months), at which point I try and sneak back into bed so I can wake up in the right place! Some nights I don't think DH even knows I have been absent. I have said though in a couple of weeks he will need to start taking his mobile phone to bed with him in case something happens as even though our house isn't huge, there are loads of doors between the sofa and the bedroom, and he sleeps like a man with...well...nothing on his mind, so in case anything happens and I am for whatever reason in no fit state to be stumbling upstairs then he will need to be 'on call'.

I've just realised that is completely uninteresting for...actuall anyone else really but I've typed now so hey ho.

I am pretty sure baby is now head down most of the time. Previously all my kicks were low down but now they're much higher up, and hiccups feel low down. MW thought probably head down at last apt so it seems to fit. Kicks feel very much at the front though, does that mean back-to-back?

D

Deliaskis · 07/01/2011 10:47

I have had fundal height measured at last 3 apts and it's been spot on, but she did say it could be out by as much as 3 weeks either way so it's just a guide really.

D

EauRouge · 07/01/2011 10:53

Delia, I got kicks at the front with DD and she wasn't back to back. It's difficult to describe but their legs are kind of crossed over and tucked underneath them so kicks at the front probably mean baby is facing the other way.

I've had my fundal height measured a few times but I never thought to ask what it was Grin I just looked on my notes and the last appt it said 31cm at 33 weeks. MW said all was fine so that's good enough for me.

Deliaskis · 07/01/2011 11:37

Ah so s/he is practising cross-legged (albeit upside down) ready for school already.

Whenever I think about what baby is actually doing (e.g. hiccups, kicking, how s/he is positioned), it really brings it home that it's a whole other person and I reeeeeeeeeeeally want to meet him/her now!!!

JustOneMorePlease · 07/01/2011 13:41

Oh go away snow!!!!! it has been snowing pretty heavily here all day (North Yorkshire)! It was freezing last night so we may be back to icy paths tomorrow, I'm so scared of falling.

It is our ds2 birthday this weekend, he is six! he is so excited.

I am on my fourth pregnancy and this is the only time I've had had the fundal height measured. It is a different midwife (had the same one for all of the previous three) I think they all practice slightly differently and unless the measurement/weeks is massively different they don't seem worried.

Think this ones head is popping in and out of my pelvis, sometimes it feels really low and others I can walk relatively normally!!!!!

roundthehouses · 07/01/2011 13:49

zerominuszero - i live in Mallorca and had ds1 here, babies are absolutely fine in the heat. Agree that you generally need to stick to what the locals do and stay inside from about 12pm-4pm or possibly later depending on what month you go. May/ June or September are often good months with kids. Keep baby in a nappy and little else and if essential to be out in hottest part of the day keep a washcloth on you that you can use to damp them down.

ds1 is 4 in april and we still head to the beach for about 9-10am and try to get off home by 1pm latest and then we stay in until about 5pm.

Had a chiropractor appt today and he told me he wants me to go every day next week but he will only charge me 2 of 5 sessions! and also a min. of 3 sessions a week til 37 week scan (again only charging me 2/wk) to see if we can get the baby to turn!! I could have cried right there at his generosity. How nice is that??!

santaslittleheroine · 07/01/2011 13:56

Wow, lots of great news here since I last checked - congrats everyone and happy new year.
LO is breech at the moment, and I was hoping for a water birth. Unfortunately, here they just give you a section if there are any problems at all. Both my dad and I were born breech, does anyone know of a genetic link? My mum said she was told to put a bag of frozen peas on her stomach and I was supposed to turn away from the cold... Obviously I didn't and she got a cold tummy. Any other 'tips'?
Nice to be back, it seems like you all survived the holidays anyway.... bring on the babies!

SemperEadem · 07/01/2011 13:59

Hi all,

Just wondered if any of you know you carry GBS?

I had it in my last pregnancy so they are assuming I have it now (for those that don't know GBS is a bacteria that a quarter of the population carry around with them in any part of their body without causing any harm but it can cause problems for the baby during childbirth if it present in the birth canal and if they become colonized with it)

Am starting to worry about it a bit as I have heard that second labours can be so much faster and I'm worried I won't have time to have the 2 lots of iv antibiotics they recommend? My first labour was 39 hours long so had PLENTY of time for the anti b's that time round!

Anybody been in that boat before?

smallblackflowers · 07/01/2011 14:30

roundthehouses what a fabulous chiropractor you have!

santaslittleheroine have a look at www.spinningbabies.com for some techniques for turning your baby.

sempereadem sorry, no experience of GBS here.

I have had a nightmare of a day today - my cat is poorly, and was sick 9 times on my living room carpet in the night, and has since managed 3 times on my bedroom floor and twice in the hallway. I am not good with sick at all - used to have a proper phobia, but have improved massively since DD was born, but was in tears at one point this morning after accidentally standing in a patch. DH would usually deal with this sort of thing, but he's in London, and I have the decorator coming around this afternoon to quote, so I had to clean it all up. Horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible.

wigglesrock · 07/01/2011 14:57

Well just back from midwife, baby has turned - yippee!! That explains the weirdness a few nights ago, and apparently the increase in feeling movement. Am having scan anyway on Wed re placenta so should be able to confirm then but midwife pretty sure Grin Think this is exactly the same time in pregnancy that dd2 turned so really over the moon. Midwife did tell me that had baby remained breech they would have pushed for a c-section, as long as baby is ok I wasn't panicking too much about it but its nice to know I sort of know what to expect.

40Weeks · 07/01/2011 15:07

Great news wiggles! Am so pleased for you, clever baby Smile

No info on gbs super sorry, fingers crossed for you.

Took massive bed out of the nursery last night so room is clear and this weekend will be spent getting it ready.

Feeling very emotinal at the mo, which is not like me. Everything makes me want to cry - the kids asking for breakfast, doing the washing, thinking about going into my last ever labour, making dinner. Feel like a right tool.

Goingto bake some muffins now to cheer me up!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 07/01/2011 15:38

missed so many posts in just 2 days, we do like to chat on here don't we? Grin

earlgrey I live in a sort of flat (it's complicated) and I WILL have a hb. I've warned the neighbours (that's nothing to do with living in a flat though!) and offered them ear plugs but hoping I won't be too loud Wink. I don't think it matters if you live in a flat as long as access isn't an issue, I also have a very wide staircase so shouldn't be a prob. Going to talk to mw next friday about my birth plan. It's strange because everyone thinks I'm so brave for having a hb but it's only down to being petrified of hospitals. I'm emetophobic and so scared of catching a bug in hospital (the norovirus is my nemesis) ! I even have dettol wipes in my emergency hospital bag so I can clean (or OH can) if I get transferred Blush. I'm also going to try without pain relief because of the side effects (definitely not chancing pethidine!) so will be TENS and baths for me..... I might try gas and air if desperate.

super Angels tested positive for GBS and is having another blood test soon. In the US they test you routinely as all it takes is a course of antibiotics to clear it up before the birth. No idea why we don't do that here.

BHs have become properly painful now, not all the time but have had some whoppers, ds is moving about like an alien most of the time, I thought they were meant to move less not more now!

Very Envy of holiday talk, don't think we'll be able to get away this year as OH wants to retrain as a nurse so we'll be even poorer than usual. Hopefully we'll have a lovely summer and it'll be like a holiday at home as I live by the sea.

Deliaskis · 07/01/2011 15:40

Anyone heard from angels recently? She's usually on here quite regularly but I haven't 'seen' her since Sunday.

Hope all is OK angels and you're just busy unpacking house stuff (whilst being looked after by DH, natch)!

D

NeedToSleepZZZ · 07/01/2011 15:48

Have been texting her and she has limited internet access because of moving, will let her know you were asking after her though Smile

Deliaskis · 07/01/2011 15:59

Ah that's good news NeedToSleep, I thought it was probably the case with moving, but still, at this stage in the game, it was enough for me to start wondering if something else had occurred!

Glad to hear all is well anyway (apart from limited internet access, that's a bit traumatic actually).

D

Deliaskis · 07/01/2011 16:02

NeedToSleep meant to also say, I am finding baby's movements more/bigger than ever too, when all the books etc. say s/he will be moving less as no space.

My tummy looks well weird, most of the time.

ledkr · 07/01/2011 16:18

pdr that is called nesting by proxy and the best type tbh.Much better than getting sulky dh to do stuff reluctantly.I always used to pay people when single parent then met dh and hes stingy but then wont do it himself {angry}Had a productive day again tho bought all the things on the list so really pleased.
Saw Dr and had anti bodies done for last time,i have been having headaches and my bp was raised (normally low)i also had slight protein in my wee, well correct me if im wrong but that is bit concerning but he wasnt worried at all.I made an app to see mw next week cos i was bit worried.Looked in my notes outside and saw he'd recorded my fundal height even tho he never measured it ConfusedGlad im seeing mw.
wiggles well done on the spinning baby, amazing that you knew isnt it?
I have less than 3wks now,am in no hurry as am quite happy to wait for dh leave and also Shameless is back on next week and its on EVERY DAY,cant wait.I also have some lunch dates booked with friends and a massage. Make the most of it ladies cos your gonna hit the ground running after if my memory serves me well!!

snowangels1 · 07/01/2011 18:59

Hello all, I'm back from a weeks cold turkey from the internet - phew, am glad to be back again and thanks delia for thinking of me :) All moved and sort of semi unpacked. DH has been very busy doing lots (is currently putting up curtain in downstairs loo Wink ) and [excited emoticon] I've finally managed to get my flu jab.

Will probably take me another week to get up to date reading all these posts, not had a chance yet.

lostfromoz · 07/01/2011 19:04

Anyone else having feet issues? I went for a long walk on weds and now am limping, can barely put weight on my left foot. It's not swollen at all and doesn't hurt except when walking. Am quite overly upset about it..somehow it feels like the last straw after horrible sore throat and onset of carpal tunnel and nasty veiny leg.
Agree with you ledkr about shameless, it's brilliant...a real treat for last lazy weeks.

snowangels1 · 07/01/2011 19:12

semper I tested positive for GBS in second tri, I'm being tested again at 36 weeks, apparently it's transient (ie it can come and go). You could ask to have a swab with your mw to see if you are still positive? I've been told you need antibiotics during labour by a certain point or it's too late. If they don't do it in time then they can guve baby antibiotics but from what I can find it's a bit stressful for the little mite. At my hospital they only give me anti biotics if you have more than one risk factor (ie not just a previous positive test) - not sure if this is the case for you or not. Remember that even if you are positive (which lots of people are anyway without knowing) and you don't get antibiotics, chances of you passing it to baby are possible, but very low.

smallblack hope the cat is feeling better now. I'm really really bad with sick too and don't think I could cope cleaning up all that. I'm actually quite worried how I'll cope with that bit of being a mum to my LO.

wiggles great news :)

ledkr can't believe you've only got 3 weeks left - things really seem to be speeding along now

That's as fa as I've got on the catch up so far...
