Happy Christmas everyone and congratulations to DF WWSB and Button

DF sounds like you've had a rough time, but glad Bob is doing well and hope you can bring him home soon.

GGG hope things get moving for you soon, maybe the baby is waiting until Christmas is over.

We're doing ok, but I'm just getting over bout of mastitis. Felt horrendous overnight but this afternoon have started to feel a lot better. William still isn't latching and I'm losing heart a bit. Poor DD is not getting the best of me and is acting up a bit as well.

laziness · 25/12/2010 23:54

I wonder if anyone had a Christmas baby today? :)

I'm still here at 40+3 today...went for a long walk today..climbed stairs and what not..am booked for a sweep next friday..let's see! fingers crossed

Anyway, good luck to everyone still waiting...:)

Esian About Formula Milk,I too plan to BF but just to be on the safe side, I have bought 2 feeding bottles and a bottle sterilizer..In case BFing doesn't go well, I plan buying formula milk if needed.(you can even get it from any pharmacy)

laziness · 26/12/2010 23:26

where's everyone today? Can't be out shopping on boxing day! Hmm

chloesbaby · 27/12/2010 10:53

Morning all,

Congratualtions to all the new arrivals over the past week. DF it sounds like you had a very rough time, but am glad to hear Bob has arrived and hope you got home for Christmas.

No baby for me yet! 40+4 now. Thought it was all starting last night - lots of contractions, awful back pain, I threw up my dinner at about 3am and had DH up timing contractions, but then I drifted off and woke up feeling perfectly normal at about 8.30. Will go for a long walk today although I am waddling now and hope I won't make it to my sweep on Thursday

Esian · 27/12/2010 11:34

Hi everyone! I suppose there won't be many of us left now - only 4 days of December to go!

I'm 40+5 today and I think I will try the castor oil option. I had a few contractions on Christmas Eve but since then nothing, just lots of baby movements. I feel like I'll still be here next December at this rate Wink

Mw has offered me a membrance sweep on New Year's Eve so I'm stressing about that -lots of family and friends will be around all wanting to see the LO before they go back to work but I might not want to see lots of people straight away Confused

Thanks for the advice Laziness - I have bought 2 little bottles just in case.

Laziness and chloesbaby - I'll race you to the post-natal thread Grin

LittleB · 27/12/2010 11:53

Welcome eloide bob and joseph, lovely names! Our little caleb has arrived safe and sound now! Born at 3.29 on 23rd Dec weighing exactly 7lbs (3 days early).
After days of on/off contractions my waters started leaking slightly at about midnight on the 21st, by 3am (22nd) I was having contractions every 5 mins. Went in at 8am contractions 3-4mins apart but quite strong, examined but only 1cm dilated, although fully effaced. Contractions kept on all day, examined again at 4pm and still the same, after lots of debate about whether my waters were leaking - I knew they were, what other pink fluid would I be leaking, esp. during contractions!, they decided to break my fore waters to speed things up.
That was v painful as it was hard for him to reach them, contractions then got much stronger and was heaving on the gas and air contractions every 2 mins, 4 hrs later still only 2cm dilated, at which point I burst in to tears! They decided to induce me by drip to speed things up, and I asked for an epidural first as this was similar to what happened with dd. That worked and 4 hrs later I was ready to push, pushed him out in 1 1/2 hrs (although dinky he has a larger than average head-sml episiotomy). The epidural ran out during pushing so I could feel when to push which helped things along! Although I didn't get the birth I hoped for it was a good experience and the mw was great, we had 2hrs skin to skin before he was weighed etc - bliss!
We have already given up bf though, I kept being sick whilst feeding him. Not entirely sure why, but I think it may have been linked to the fact I was so sick during labour, and so tired after many days of stop/start contractions. While bf I could feel the uterine contractions v painfully, then my stomach would start to gurgle and churn, then I'd get nauseous, sometimes manage to finish feeding him, other times actually being sick into a jug while feeding him. I tried to eat between feeds, and take painkillers etc as advised by mw, but just kept bringing it up, and feeling worse, tried a break for formula, the bf again a few hours later and sick again, so unfortunately I gave up. I couldn't carry on despite mw telling me to push on with it (and this may be TMI but i was also wetting my self while vomiting).
But I managed first 2 days BF and Caleb and I are both ok now and doing well. I'll join our anti-natal thyread soon too! But got to go and cuddle my little boy now, and my dd who adores him! Xmas Grin

DuelingFanjo · 27/12/2010 12:11

Congratulations on the birth of Caleb LittleB Xmas Grin

sounds like it's been tough in parts but worth it.

maxpower · 27/12/2010 13:21

Congratulations littleb - I remember how painful ARM was from when I had DD. I also remember the crushing disappointment when after hours of painful contractions the mw examines you and says little has changed! The vomiting may well have been linked to the epidural (that's what happened to me when DD was born). Well done for managing 2 days of bf.

my sympathies WLL having been totally wiped out by the flu as well as having a baby (!) I'm just exhausted. DD has had her moments adjusting to sharing us with DS and I know what you mean about not feeling as though you're giving your best. FWIW I think you're doing really well persevering with bf.

BTW we've settled on a name (at last) - Matthew Joseph.

Good luck to everyone still waiting to pop - seems we didn't get one christmas day baby!

GreenGeekGirl · 27/12/2010 14:49

Congratulations LittleB - we had the same EDD I think :)

No Christmas day babies after all it seems. I can't believe how quiet the thread has been for the past couple of days!

We've been cycling into hospital every day for monitoring (apparently they've never had anyone cycle in here at 40+15 before) and 4 sweeps (lucky me!) but today the heart rate was a little higher than usual, so we finally agreed to an induction. Had the prostaglandin pessary and now just waiting on the ward for it to kick in. Will update on progress later ...

frankenfanny · 27/12/2010 15:16

Congratulations everyone - new babies everywhere! Hope you all had a great Christmas.

GGG good luck with the induction.

I was in for monitoring today (40 + 15 also) but they do not do it every day. Everything looks fine so I am just waiting, waiting. Last time I was examined they couldn't even do a sweep so not favourable for induction- I will have to hold out a bit longer. Looks like I am going to be booted off this thread and onto January babies!

ebrookm · 27/12/2010 15:42

Happy Holidays to everyone - New Years is just around the corner and congratulations to all the new babies. I'm happy to see we are popping all over the place! :)

I have not been on the thread since posting that my waters broke! If it's alright, I'll post a v. condensed version of my labor.

Little Oliver (I know, the most popular name, but it fits him perfectly!) arrived on the 10th of December. He is gorgeous and we are loving him to bits.

My waters broke on a Monday at midnight after early and v. irregular contractions which stayed irregular even after 24 hours. We went to the birthing centre and had a witchy midwife check me out and say she did not believe my waters had broken because it was not still seeping out. It turns out I had a hind water leak which is rare, but is my waters breaking. We went home, then back to the centre when my contractions were closer together. They sent us home again and I ran a bath only to find I was leaking green mucus - meconium! I was upset because now the birthing centre would not allow me to have a natural labor, but I ended up being induced and 24 hours later, after a ventouse delivery due to his heart rate slowing, Oliver was born a healthy sweet angel and weighing 3.2 kilos. He BF after the first thirty minutes and has not stopped eating! He is ravenous and has already gained 12 oz.! We are doing well and of course have had our share of sleepless nights, but that is to be expected. :)

It's wonderful being a parent to such a sweet little one. What an adventure!

Good luck to those of you still waiting! Will join anti-natal thread - and while I may not follow up as often, I'll check in here and there. Hope that's ok.

All the best!

laziness · 27/12/2010 18:43

congrats to everyone who had their babies recently...:)

chloesbaby I guess u and I had the same due date...23rd Dec..and we're still here..along with Esian....

I don't even feel like reading pregnancy magazines anymore...I'm so sick of it all...hating the phone calls by people who ask..any news? oh God!!!Angry

I'm booked for a sweep for New Year's eve as well...not even sure if that will help..:(

maxpower · 27/12/2010 20:14

good luck with the induction GGG

congratulations ebrookm

GreenGeekGirl · 28/12/2010 00:17

Congratulations ebrookm - lovely to hear your story! :)

Two pessaries in hospital now and not a sausage! Speaking of which the hospital food is so depressing. It looks like food, sort of smells a bit like food but tastes like cat sick smells (although probably contains fewer nutrients). I can't believe they feed this crap to sick people!

Had a bit of a weepy moment when DH left an hour ago but feeling better now. Should probably get some sleep before they bring me my next portion of cat sick soup & my final prostaglandin induction attempt in the morning.

Hope everyone & their little ones (whether out or in) are all doing well and happy.

QueenofDreams · 28/12/2010 02:45

hey all

I'll join those who are still waiting! Was due Christmas eve. nothing doing yet. DP has now caught this flu thing that DS and I have had so thinking if things happen in the next couple of days he might have to miss the birth! can't imagine he'll be able to be there if he gets as ill as DS and I did :(

COgratulations to all those who have their new arrivals :)

DuelingFanjo · 28/12/2010 11:26

Good luck GGG

hope your DH gets over the flu QoD

Huge congratulations ebrookm and so glad they managed to get baby Oliver out with no problems :)

LittleB · 28/12/2010 11:35

Congratulations ebrookm, I had a hind waters leak with Caleb and dd, they didn't believe me at first with Caleb either as they could feel intact forewaters but after I spoke to a dr I convinced them! Hope you have fun with little Oliver.
Didn't know epidurals could cause vomiting max, I had one with dd and was ok, but couldn't stomach the gas and air then and it was ok this time - I think you can react differently every labour.
Although I'm dissappointed about the bf at least I am now feeling well - if not a little battered and bashed about - and Caleb is feeding well now, and I'm bonding with him very easily, I was slower to bond with dd, partly the culture shock of becoming a mum then I think!
Hope everyone elses babies arrive soon and smoothly.

laziness · 28/12/2010 15:00

I guess there are only a few of us left here..
welcome QoD :)

And all the best to u GGG...i hope u get over with it all soon :)

I had false labour(which didn't start from the lower back) from 4am till 8:30am..when i called the maternity unit at my hospital and was told to take a paracetamol...i did and slept..and when I woke up the contractions were gone..

Being 4 days overdue I don't really need false contractions at the moment..Hmm

chloesbaby · 28/12/2010 15:36

had a big show again last night, lots of contractions, then got in the bath and it all stopped.

lots more show this morning with fresh blood, more irregular contractions, but nothing convincing.

getting so many texts and emails now and I just can't be bothered to respond - horrible of me I know, but I have told people I will contact them when we have news and it is really annoying me.

wouldn't be surprised if this is a january baby now! good luck laziness queenofdreams and greengeekgirl I'll race you all!

Esian · 28/12/2010 18:10

Good luck GGG and Frankenfanny it can't be long now!

Just realised if LO born New Year's Day will have a 1/1/11 birthday Grin. I've decided against the castor oil after reading more about it online - I can do without any extra cramps tyvm.

I'm seeing mw tomorrow at 40+7 so I might see if she'll do a sweep then instead/as well as Friday but don't know whether she'll agree Hmm

laziness · 28/12/2010 21:55

thanks chloesbaby...I can so relate to ur situation! I have stopped picking up the phone...when people ask if the baby is here..i feel like saying..yes he is..but we've been hiding it from u!! Angry...it's so annoying!

Esian when I saw my MW at 40+1, i was so depressed already that my MW sympathised with me and offered me a sweep herself :) you can try doing the same :)

Strix · 28/12/2010 22:59

You overdue ladies have my every sympathy. DD was 2 weeks late and I remember very clearly being none too pleased about it.

Little B, that feeding story sounds horrible. Not sure many people could carry on being sick every time the fed. Love the name Caleb.

laziness · 29/12/2010 18:03

wherez everyone today?Hmm

MrsChris · 29/12/2010 18:18

Hi Laziness

I'm here. Due date today and after tons of false alarms over the last 2 weeks, nothing is happening.

Have tried curry, pineapple, bouncing etc. to no avail

What can we do to keep our spirits up?

frankenfanny · 29/12/2010 18:55

I am still here. I have been keeping spirits up by going for walks and taking the chance to read while still got it. think secret is to keep mind off it as much as poss. OK I have gone over 2 weeks but that is pretty rare. Most of you will deliver within 1 week or 2 at most.38 to 42 weeks is normal.

Maybe I will join postnatal sometime in the New Year......
