Brilliant news button elodie is a gorgeous name - it was on my short list :) was the fact that she was breech what made the latent labour so long or is it just the way things were?

All the best ggg and laziness

DuelingFanjo · 23/12/2010 17:58

Congratulations to all new mums. I will read back incase I have missed anyone but KittyBump well done on your wedding Water break Grin and congratulations on the birth of Isabel.

Wholelottalove hope things are going well with the feeding.

Congratulations on the birth or Elodie Button and wow to the epic 17 days.

Congratulations too to reshape and anyone else I have missed.

GGG hope everything is going ok.

I have nipped home from the hospital for a couple of hours but am still on the post-natal ward because our baby is getting some special care and can't come home just yet.

I went back into Hospital at some time on Tuesday afternoon (don't ask me what time I was in a lot of pain and have had the full works apart from narrowly missing a C-section!) and our baby boy, Bob Joseph, was born at 1.21am on Wednesday weighing 6lb and 15 oz. I went in at 3cm dilated but quickly progressed to 6cm. I was whisked up to the consultant led Unit as the baby was showing signs of distress (at this point they checked me and were surprised to find I was six CM) and I needed to have my waters broken and a catheter inserted. The catheter relieved me of 500mls of urine(!) which was a massive release after not being able to pee properly for at least 2 days. I quickly went to ten cm and they found that I had meconium in my waters. After pushing with gas and air for a bit I was taken in for an epidural and to sign consent forms for a C-section.

I pushed the baby out in 3 pushes (really didn't want a C-Section!) and they barely had to use the forceps but I did have to be cut. Bob had to have a lot of stuff removed from his lungs and was quite floppy and not breathing well so was rushed to the Neo-natal unit after a quick cuddle. At 3am he seemed to be recovering well and by 7am was much better. The next few hours were a bit scary as he started fitting and he's had to have some scans and a Lumbar puncture but has been stable for over 24 hours and should, barring any other issues, make a full recovery.

It's been a very emotional couple of days and I've been sat on a ward without my baby expressing colostrum like mad inbetween trips to the Unit. Today's news has been very good and we are feeling very hopeful for his future. I hope to be discharged tomorrow as it's hard being on the ward (sleep is impossible) but we are very close to the hospital so can be there in a flash.

Can't wait to have him home and start doing all the stuff new parents do for their babies. DH was amazing through the whole labour, specially considering how long the latent phase went on for and how little sleep we both had, but we're both very emotional and spaced out by it all. I feel like days have gone by rather than hours and am really looking forward to Christmas at home.

Spent 25 minutes attached to a breastpump today and before that having my boobs manhandled by midwives. Apparently I am producing a lot of milk and really hope that I will be able to put him to the breast once he is out of special care.

What a drama!

KittyBump · 23/12/2010 18:10

Oh df what a stressful time. Huge Congratulations on the arrival of Bob, so glad today's news was good you sound really positive. I really sympathise over the stay in hospital but the milk coming in does sound good for being able to BF when you get the little man home. Stay strong and all the best for getting Bob home soon x

Lavitabellissima · 23/12/2010 18:13

Oh DF I have been checking regularly as I've been wondering how you've got on. Welcome to the world little Bob what a trauma! and congratulations to you and your DH DF Xmas Smile

WhatWillSantaBring · 23/12/2010 19:13

DF and I nearly had our babies at the same time, as our little girl was born on Wednesday morning at 4am, weighing just under 7lb. My waters actually broke on Monday evening, so I went in on Tuesday morning and was given a stretch and sweep to get things going. I started have Cx straightaway and I had to report back at 9pm, but was only 3cm. However, by 11pm I was fully dilated but begging for an epidural - thank goodness I did get one, as second stage was over 4 hours as she got stuck, and had to be pulled out. All good though, and I love her totally.

Just trying to get my head round bf, which I currently hate with a passion, even though she feeds really well. I'm hoping its just emotions and I get to grips with it soon, as I really want to keep going!

Very tired now, but congrats to all the other mums, and keep your fingers crossed noones waiting too long!

DuelingFanjo · 23/12/2010 19:18

Congratulations Whatwillsantabring

ReshapeWhileDamp · 23/12/2010 19:50

Congratulations to Button, to WWSB and to DF! Xmas Smile

Wow, DF, what a dramatic and traumatic end to your long, long labour. Sad I hope you're feeling better and that you can spring Bob Joseph out of there soon. Sounds like you're a champ at the expressing!

We have a Joseph too - Joseph Edwin. Smile Nice christmassy name, Joseph, but that only just struck me!

BTW, M&S have nice soft stretchy PJs with button tops. I snapped them up a few weeks ago!

maxpower · 23/12/2010 20:38

congratulations button - that must have come as a bit of a shock after all your hard work!

Angry on your behalf GGG - glad you've felt able to stand your ground

congratulations DF - wow - that sounds pretty intense. I had a tough time when DD was born and felt very emotional about it for a long long time, so be gentle with yourself. Hope Bob's home with you and DH asap.

congratulations WWSB good luck with the bf

how nice to see so many babies arriving in time for Christmas Xmas Grin

frankenfanny · 23/12/2010 21:01

Congratulations DF and welcome to the world wee Bob. Was worried about you and so glad everything now Ok, what a time you've had, but wonderful your DH has been the rock you needed. Wishing you a peaceful and restful Christmas with your wonderful new babe.

Congratulations to button, WWSB and anyone else I have missed as well.

I had some reflexology and now feel ridiculously happy and healthy for someone who is nearly 2 weeks overdue (still enormous though). Come on baby!

GreenGeekGirl · 23/12/2010 23:39

Another big congratulations DF - I hope you get the adorable little bob home soon and have a wonderful Christmas. :)

And congratulations to WWSB too - best of luck with the BF. I'm sure it will get easier! :)

Thanks for the sympathy everyone. I am now not going to be induced tomorrow after all. We went in today for monitoring and just started asking the midwife questions and she called in a doctor to speak to us, who basically said immediately that it wasn't all that necessary after all and that we could come in for monitoring twice a week instead. It wasn't the battle I expected at all. I had a very thorough (eek) stretch and sweep, during which it was discovered that I am 3cm dilated Shock, which is a good sign but surprising. I think I've been having contractions this evening (in the pub) but they weren't very painful, just a bit uncomfortable. Really hope things get moving tonight! BTW also tried castor oil today, with absolutely no effect, other than making me feel a little queasy for a while. DH is pumping up the birth pool this evening, just in case Grin

laziness · 24/12/2010 00:02

i too have been thinking about having castor oil..but am still unsure if it would do anything more than making me uneasy...Confused
Anyway, all the best to u GGG :)

WhatWillSantaBring · 24/12/2010 09:12

Morning all, GGG I hope you're not on here and are instead having your baby :)

DF sorry, I didn't take in your story properly last night - sounds very scary but hopefully with the great care he's getting he'll be up and keeping you up soon enough!

BF not going at all well and after both of us had cried for about an hour had to resort to bottle last night, and feeling horrendously guilty.

She's waking up again now, so better go.

GreenGeekGirl · 24/12/2010 11:23

Had a show (yay) but no contractions yet this morning - oh please come out soon baby bear! :(

shangrila · 24/12/2010 11:57

Congratulations to DF on the birth of Lovely Bob. We spoke a few times about testing in Cardiff, months ago. And now it's all done and dusted and he's here. Wonderful!

Hope you get out of C1 asap. Staff are lovely but it's a noisy madhouse. Hope you get a lovely Christmas, all 3 of you at home.

Esian · 24/12/2010 12:42

How lovely to have all these new Xmas babies! Well done everyone! I'm still hanging on at 40+2 and thinking about crossing my legs now so LO doesnt arrive tomorrow. Feeling so huge and uncomfortable tho:(. I'm planning to bf but I wonder whether to get some formula in just in case?
Have a great Christmas and keep updating. Hope Bob comes home soon DF!

frankenfanny · 24/12/2010 17:39

Wishing all of you a happy and healthy Christmas whether with your new babe or still waiting. xx

DuelingFanjo · 24/12/2010 18:28

Thank you Shangrila I remember the really helpful advice you gave. All the midwives have been lovely in C1 particularly the woman who has been helping me with breastfeeding/expressing. C1 is a mad-house and very noisy but I am lucky to have my own room. One of my workmates was 2 doors down as she gave birth a bit early but on the same day as me! It was nice to see someone I know and very cool that our children have the same birthday Grin.

All good news here. Bob is off all monitors and will be moved into the nursery soon. They need to make sure he 'normalises' but so far no problems. I sang him some of his namesake's songs (Bob Dylan) last night and he responded so much Grin DH also managed to have a long cuddle. I swear I wasn't prepared for the emotions just seeing him would create; I have burst into tears almost every time I have been to see him.

I also had a long chat with the doctor who delivered Bob and feel lots better about what happened. Seems I was considered in active labour at 10.30 pm so it was a really quick birth in the end, despite the long latent phase.

Going back to hospital now, may discharge myself tomorrow if all goes well with B0b overnight.

maxpower · 24/12/2010 19:38

Lovely news about Bob DF

Good luck GGG

Merry Christmas everyone Xmas Smile

GreenGeekGirl · 24/12/2010 21:26

I succumbed to probably pointless worries about decreased movements & now at the hospital again for more monitoring. There are some megachavs in the next bed and the boy is playing crap music from his shitty phone speaker ... aaaaargh!

frankenfanny · 24/12/2010 21:40

GGG Hope everything is OK with the monitoring, sounds like you need your earphones on Wink.

We are enjoying a peaceful Christmas which Pudding baby shows no sign of wanting to join in...

kellestar · 24/12/2010 22:04

Congrats DF kitty WWSB and anyone else i have missed. Really struggled with BF while in hospital so many MW's contradicting each other. But we seem to be settling well now home, back to birth weight on day 5 and looking good. Wishing all of you a lovely christmas. Can't believe how time flies.

I also back the mans shirt and cardi idea worked well for me!

GreenGeekGirl · 24/12/2010 22:13

As I suspected all is fine and it was just LO being a mischief. On the way home now. :)

Chavs asked for a letter to explain where they were because boy has a curfew due to asbo ... wow!

MrsSnaplegs · 25/12/2010 05:38

Merry Christmas to you all!

GreenGeekGirl · 25/12/2010 08:35

Merry Christmas everyone! Xmas Smile

I'm delighted that Father Christmas has been but, alas, the stork is still delayed (by adverse weather conditions perhaps?)

Chooster · 25/12/2010 18:43

Hsppy xmas to you all - and hige congratulations to all the new babies! Joseph Bob and Elodie - All such gorgeous names Smile. Sounds like you had a pretty tough time of it DF, but really glad to hear that your DP rose to the challenge... Bob sounds like he is making great progress and you'll be wrapped up in the quiet of your own home soon enough. The emotions are a funny thing, its so intense isn't it. I've had a few tears today, over silly things. I hadn't expected it as my LO is 3 weeks old, but I think i was the same with DS1. Also Jude has some tummy problems, colic I think, or maybe reflux, but he cries a lot in the evening now. Thankfully he's sleepung at the moment in the sling so some respite.

WWSB - Hope you are not feeling too guilty, you've done exactly the right thing is BF was just causing a distress to you and LO. Are you going to try BF again??

Right better dash - DS's to entertain!!! Hope all is well and having a great day.
