Oh my God OWO - good luck!

Have you had major contractions yet? Anything regular? (She asks, hoping that her own irregular contractions might have been quietly dilating her to 3cm without very much pain or inconvenience...)

laurenamium · 03/12/2010 15:16

owo I never felt like that after my sweep I just felt normal but it wasn't entirely successful sweep so I don't think it counted!

Sounds like little One is nearly here :-)

kellestar · 03/12/2010 15:30

38+5 here, lots of cramps, tightenings and back ache. LO is still quite high, shoulders seem to be in the wrong place still :)

Need to get some more EPO down to the last few RL tea bags and a pineapple ripening in the window sill. Tesco delivered it last week and it's meant to be ripe, no sign of that changing yet.

OWO my DH was having a moment and didn't realise the pineapple was for eating. He thought it should be 'ahem' inserted. Now, i nearly made myself sick laughing at him and a darned good job i had a pad on or the sofa would be damp. Bless him, i think because i've started using EPO as a pessary he thought the pineapple also goes in. I didn't ask if he thought it should be peeled first! :o it might have been the end of me.

Names are very much sorted. We have ignored any family suggestions. Laying a false trail for those that ask. DH has finally had a look at ideas and now thinks my list is perfect. Just to see if it's a little girl or boy now.

A friend who was due same time as me had a ELCS after DD was still breech and measuring large. Lily arrived at 5lb spot on, so now needs to be kept in as she's so small. She looks just like her mum, i popped up to leave some tiny baby clothes for her as tgey had bought bigger stuff and got a peek.

laziness · 03/12/2010 15:59

Hi, thanks for the new thread OWO and good luck!

Am 38+5 today, and finally feel ready to have baby.. watch it take another 3 weeks now! lol.

Am just waiting on an email for boss to say whether our project has been cut after april Confused

Hope everyone is keeping warm

crazykat · 03/12/2010 16:23

Hi all, 39+3, been up since 4am with backache and painful tightenings. Had them on and off all day and it's starting to annoy me now as they;re not getting better or worse. Baby has definately moved down though (been 3/5 since 35+2) it really hurt too when she moved down. Really hope it's this weekend as I can't take many more false starts and painful BH for much longer.

This weekend we've got DSD if we can get to pick her up through the snow and ice. Other than that I'm doing absolutely nothing but hoping baby decides to make an appearance.

CherylAnnTweedy · 03/12/2010 16:55

Sounds like it may be a busy weekend on the baby arrival front.

OWO I had a sweep with ds2, was soooooo uncomfortable. MW said then that she didn't have to do much as cervix was very short, she didn't say anything about if I was dilated or not. I had lots of erm goo appear over the next few hours before going into labour. Sweep at 9pm, 1st contraction at 1.45 am, ds2 born at 3.30 am. Sounds like you're more ready than I was so baby appearing tonight?

Kelle Grin

I've only bought some bedding from Tesco, not prepared to pay a fortune and very little neutral bedding around unless you want to pay what I call silly money.

I have the 'I love my bear' travel system lauren, £125!!!! And tbh it was our favourite anyway, so very happy that it was on offer and had vouchers for it.

SlightlyTired · 03/12/2010 16:58

Kellestar PML at your DH. Unfortunately I am 99% sure that pineapples don't ripen once picked so Tesco may have sold you a dud.

Ugh - whole day inside with DD as too slippery to risk going outside. Going CRAZY. Have made shortbread and MORE mince pies. Would dearly love to lie down but every time I do LO seems to grind her head into my pelvis. O am now making soup. Am going to fall into bed at this rate.

laurenamium · 03/12/2010 17:09

Ooo that's good value!I love a bargain my latest one is a boori sleigh 3 in 1 cot bed in old English oak used once for 150 pounds :-o

KittyBump · 03/12/2010 17:40

Hi all,

Good luck OWO and MrsSL and crazycat I predict 4 weekend babies :)

38+5 here, all ready for baby to arrive, chest of drawers turned up today and just bought some cosy Primark PJs for £5, very cute with little gingerbread men :)

so LO if you're listening, we're ready for you...... :)

kelle that's hilarious! Though he may have a point, after shoving a pineapple up there getting a baby out would be a breeze!

CherylAnnTweedy · 03/12/2010 18:11

We looked at cot beds but they don't have a drop down side and I have to have that as otherwise I can't reach baby on the lower setting! £150 for a sleigh one is very good.

I think baby has popped out. Argh! I can feel something quite high up whereas the bum has been the highest part about a inch above my belly button. I can also walk easier, can't feel the head in my pelvis and feel very squashed up now. DP has also said that I look bigger and higher again.

Wholelottalove · 03/12/2010 18:37

Good luck OWO MrsS and crazykat I think we'll be getting some weekend babies too :)

kelle your DH made me smile! Shock at your friend being told baby was big and then it being 5lbs.

cheryl I think they do pop in and out if it isn't your first don't they? Mine hasn't engaged at all yet, although is quite low down.

I've just been banished by DD who wants DH to read her bedtime story. She always gets me to read her story first the he does one for her in her bed. I think she's missing him as now I'm on mat leave he is back to work 6 days a week so she isn't getting as much 1:1 time with him.

Feel really tired and shivery so hope I'm not coming down with anything at this stage.

DuelingFanio · 03/12/2010 19:00

Hi all - I think I am 38 +6 now. I have Midwife on Monday. Went out with a friend and came over all weird in a shop earlier but nothing since - not sure if it was Braxton Hicks or not but I really felt like I needed the loo. I am not ready to have this baby yet, still hoping it will be late. MIL lands in just over a week, I am not going to be doing anything lilke eating pinaple etc to get this baby out early. She/he can stay in tehre until Christmas as far as I am concerned. My friend is convinced I will give birth tonight.

ButtonAzure · 03/12/2010 19:16

My friends from work and home have made sweepstakes over when baby will be born! 1/2 of them have lost their bets already! I should start betting against people... could make a fortune Grin

laziness · 03/12/2010 20:02

thanks for the suggestion OWO...:)
cheryl £125 does sound like a good deal.
right now DH is gone to ikea to get a mattress for the cot..and as always im stretched on the sofa.just had fish fillets(omega 3):)

since this snow began, coz of the icy pavements, i haven't been able to go out for a walk.which i am so hating..I feel like my baby won't go down further anytime soon as Im not getting enough exercise..head got engaged in week 36 as I was getting plenty of exercise back then and its 38+1 today..don't have an appointment with the MW till 9th dec..I wonder what she would say...
And Kellestar the pineapple story is hilarious! Our poor hubbys :)

Chooster · 03/12/2010 21:19

Hi ladies - thanks for the new thread OWO.

So, lots happening on the baby producing front!!! Good luck to all who are on the verge! Its such an amazing experience (says the woman who is out the other side Smile), GOOD LUCK!!!!

Kelle - Love the pineapple misunderstanding!Lets hope he assumed peeled and cut into chunks before insertion Wink.

I didn't have many symptoms before it all kicked off but I'll give you the low down on what happened for me Smile. For the previous couple of days I've felt an increase in pressure around my bottom, but nothing of any significance really. And maybe a little more discharge - bit of mucus, but again not much... Anyway it was DH's birthday yesterday so on the previous night (Wed) I suggested a little pre-birthday sex (Sorry if TMI!!!!). 30 mins later at about 10.30 I started having mild contractions, started measuring them and they were every 4 mins and about a minute in length. Not massively painful so I started the TENS machine and thought about how the hell we'd get to hospital in the piles of snow we have in our road! EEEEKkk!! Was very calm until I popped to the loo and saw quite a lot of bright red blood. Not a show as such as no mucus... So we decided to get to the hospital sooner than later.

I was 3cm when I got there and coping fairly well. They were a little concerned about the bleed so I had the canulas put in my hands in case they needed to intervene and then they just moitored me and the wee one. After about an hour I was in agony (sorry!) and had progressed to 7cm pretty fast, but they were worried about the babys heart rate as it was dropping during a contraction and not recovering, so I needed examinations and talk of a section again so I asked for an epidural, but a mobile one so it was a lower dose than normal. I could still feel the pressure from the contraction but it was more uncomfortable than painful - BLISS!!!!!!!Thankfully things progressed pretty fast I was suddenly fully dilated... and after 3 pushes out came Jude! Amazingm amazing, amazing. The epidural was a wonder and it made the whole experience of giving birth to him enjoyable. I could feel each contraction, and I could feel his head emerge, then shoulders and the his little bottom. I know a lot of people dont want that kind of pain relief but I felt so in control of what was happening. Best birthday present my DH could wish for!!!!

We got out pretty fast and I enjoyed my own bed last night. He is just the most scrummy little guy and so so good - like a little angel! Totally head over heels with him Grin.

Gonna head to bed now but good luck to all who are contracting at the moment - hopefully someone from this thread will be!!! I'll be popping on here but will also see you on post natal Grin Grin.

My only couple of tips are; go with the TENS early on, I dont know how much pain it took away but if nothing else it was the distraction / prop I needed to get through the contractions, flip flops for that post birth shower, and short sleeved / vest tops. Its hard to get long sleeved tops on after a shower with canulas still in your hands...

Best wishes to all

laurenamium · 03/12/2010 21:41

Lovely birth story chooster it made me smile and I'm glad you are home safe in all the snow :-)

jobobpip08 · 03/12/2010 21:43

congrats chooster and welcome to the world baby Jude - clever boy, on Daddy's birthday! I am Envy of your epidural! Lovely hearing you describe his birth. xxx

MrsSnaplegs · 03/12/2010 22:14

df I definitely felt a "shift" in position yesterday. Walked into village for hair appt, managed to slip on ice on way there so thought the change was that but clearly not! Also did lots of shifting of snow yesterday as DD and her friend wanted to build a snow dinosaur (don't ask!)
No other signs other than my show although I do ache massively across the bottom of my bump but again I put that down to the extra exercise yesterday!
choosier glad you had such a positive experience and welcome to little Jude Grin
Planning on staying home as long as I can and would really like to go to DD Xmas fair tomorrow and Xmas concert on Monday so somewhere in between those times will be fine with me!

LittleB · 03/12/2010 22:31

Chooster, lovely to hear your story, sounds like it was a pretty good birth, and sounds like we've got more December babies on the way this weekend.
My bh have increased in intensity and regularity, sometimes getting several in an hour rather than several per day as I previously had, so perhaps leading up to something? He's 3/5ths engaged too so getting all ready, registrar did say he could be 2-3wks early so could be soon, dd was a week early, but equally he could still be late anyway!!! As long as he doesn't arrive during Christmas dinner!

ReshapeWhileDamp · 03/12/2010 22:33

This thread is going to get exciting! Grin Congratulations Chooster - what a great birth story! Sounds like a really good epidural - enough to take the edge off but you could still feel to push.

I've been off a while, but finally now we have a proper interweb connection in the new house, and our fuel probs have been sorted (finally got a delivery of gas to the tank in the garden in nick of time, brrr) so I'm feeling more nesty. But still very much in denial - I can't get my head round having a baby in the next 4 weeks. (Due Boxing Day.)

We have done virtually nothing. I think you're a bit more casual with a second baby! We have the Moses basket but he's probably coming in with us. A big bag of clothes and bits from DS1 is all washed and ready, but I need to buy a chest of drawers for the baby's clothing! Blush We have a spanking new buggy that DS2 can lie flat in (if DS1 gets out and lets him Hmm, as he's rather taken with it) and I've been washing cloth toys that were DS's, but then have to hide them, as he's reclaiming them for himself!

As for position, I have NO idea. This baby was breech and I think still is, but as of last night I'm not so sure. Woke in a lot of pain, not contractions but lower back and hip. Made me wonder if he'd turned or engaged his bum. Then he woke me again by thrashing about. Since then, he's been very active and seems to be kicking in a different way. I thought I could still feel his head at my ribs, but maybe not?

ECV booked for tuesday, anyway, and they'll scan me first, so we'll find out! Grin

laziness · 03/12/2010 22:46

amazing birth story Chooster
your epidural experience sounds good.I'm happy for you :)
wish we could somehow upload pics of our babies here..I so want to see Jude :)

Also, it would be nice if we mention which week we r in when describing our symptoms.as being a first timer I don't really know what to expect when...Confused
well it's just a suggestion...:)

I honestly didn't get to know when my exactly baby's head got engaged.I only found out when the MW told me...Xmas Blush

ReshapeWhileDamp listening to your story I'm thinking its not so easy being pregnant when u have elder kids to take care of. thumbs up to how you are managing! :)
