Good luck with the sweeps!!

RedZuleika · 27/09/2005 12:00

STM: yes - I feel a bit like that. I just want to feel well again - I'm over the whole motherhood thing. Prefer puppies anyway.

RedZuleika · 27/09/2005 12:00

I should say that I didn't sleep very well last night and have a right grump on me today.

maretta · 27/09/2005 12:03

Hi. I am possibly the worst September contributor ever - I don't think I've posted since I had my 12 week scan . Can't believe how quickly it's gone.

I wanted to say congratulations to everyone who's delivered and good luck to anyone waiting.

My beautiful ds2, Freddy (7lb 7.5) was born a week over due last Friday 23rd. I did manage to get my home birth but in the end it wasn't really a choice - my dh delivered the baby on our bed.

I woke dh up at about 3am to say I thought that I was having contractions. He got dressed and we rang the midwife and everything was fine. Then my waters broke and it all went crazy. I knew I was starting to push so I shouted to get an ambulance, but dh could already see the head coming and the ambulance operator talked him through what to do. He did a good job - no stitches or grazes so I'm very happy. The ambulance arrived about 5 minutes later.

Wouldn't have planned a birth like that but I am so pleased it happenned that way.

Looking forward to hearing all the remaining birth stories very soon.

jessysmummy · 27/09/2005 12:26

STM - mw probably could only find my cervix because it's old and saggy - not like your nice young one!!!

kelli22 · 27/09/2005 12:27

KiwiKate · 27/09/2005 12:35

congrats DaisyDot
Can you take Voltarin for pain? It is safe while bf. Sorry you've had such a rough time!
Lovely name by the way. We have called dd Grace Michelle.

jessysmummy · 27/09/2005 12:48

OK - back from mothercare - just an excuse to get out really. Stopped at Burgerking on way home - not something I do very often but figured that I won't be able to be as frivolous with my food once bump arrives and I'm trying to get back into shape. Now off for a walk - it's 3 hours post sweep so hoping this might help (thanks Beatie!)
Kelli, STM and Rhumba - once again, hope you have some luck with sweep, nothing happening here yet.

bubbles2904 · 27/09/2005 13:10

congratulations maretta, i don't think i was around the last time you posted but welcome back
fingers are still crossed for you all xxx

beatie · 27/09/2005 13:15

Wow Maretta - congratulations.

Redhelen · 27/09/2005 13:42

maretta - wow quick labour - !!!

Congratulations xxxxxxxxxx

jessysmummy · 27/09/2005 14:20

CONGRATULATIONS Maretta. Hope you'll join us on the post-natal thread...if I ever get there!
Back from walk without waters breaking along the way! Hoping to hear some news from the other "sweepees".
Now...to nap or not to nap? Whether 'tis nobler to suffer another sleepless night like I had last night (probably due to the fact that I actually managed to get some shuteye yesterday afternoon) just incase things kick off this evening and I need some rest to get through it? Or should I stay out of bed so that I'm tired enough to sleep through tonight? Then again, if I do have a sleep any small pains I'm getting following the sweep might stop...on the other hand if I'm meant to go into labout it'll happen whether I sleep or not. Oh pooh! I don't know what to do!!!

jessysmummy · 27/09/2005 14:28

Milward - are you still there? Not heard from you since Sunday - hoping you've graduated to the post-natal thread. Can't wait to hear!

Rhumba · 27/09/2005 15:31

JM I know what you mean re sleeping - you don't what to jinx anything by getting hopes up. May go for a bounce later or a walk! Sweep performed "with ease" and was able to stretch to three cm. midwife was hopeful that wouldn't need to see me next week (at least not for antenatal care!)

Found the sweep just slightly unconfortable and not half as bad sa the bikini wax I had this am. Better go and check my hospital bag just in case.

beatie · 27/09/2005 16:34

Rhumba - That sounds very promising. Get your bag ready!

I had a stretch and sweep last week and was 2cm, cervix was soft, thin and short. The midwife said to me that she was very positive it would work and hoped to see me on the labour ward the next day when she was on duty. I had cramps and tightenings almost immediately and then went for a walk 2 hours later where I started to have proper contractions.

Only a few hours after that I was in painful labour and my DD2 was delivered 12 hours after the sweep!

jessysmummy · 27/09/2005 16:49

Unfortunately the walk hasn't worked for me, so far but last time I had a sweep it took at least 12 hours to take effect so I'm forever hopeful.
Rhumba - sounds like you could be on your way - best of luck!
Hoping also that sweeps have pushed STM and Kelli over the edge!

Kiwifruit · 27/09/2005 17:01

Hi All

Congratulations Maretta - bet your DH is feeling very proud of himself !!

Been for my acupuncture - doesn't feel like it had as much effect as the last lot did, fingers crossed I get a delayed reaction! Went for a walk down Oxford St afterwards to get a present for a friend who had her baby on Friday (), and am exhausted now!

Fingers crossed for all those who had sweeps today. If nothing happens tonight, I'll ask for another one tomorrow when I go to the day assessment unit.

mummyhill · 27/09/2005 17:29

Congratulations Maretta and welcome to Freddy. Must confess I was looking at the stats thread the other day and was wondering what had hapened to you and some of the other early posters. Glad you and baby are ok and totally shocked at the speed of your birth.

singleteenagemum · 27/09/2005 17:51

I'm back from the hospital (and tesco) was a pointless trip, my cervix is still very posterior and so no sweep for me again. I am now booked in for induction. Got to go in on saturday evening about 7ish and then wont leave again till i have a baby in my arms, whether that's mine or not is a different matter

Not getting myself down about it again now though, i know that in a weeks time i'll definately have a baby and regret not utilising my free time more!!

So much for all four of us popping today

I'm guessing katts has her little one now, it;s been almost a week since she last posted.

Hope you all get some action tonight - in the bedroom or hospital [fingers crossed emotion]

Kiwifruit · 27/09/2005 18:11

STM - sorry to hear that your cervix isn't playing the game. Is trying acupuncture or reflexology an option before Saturday to try and ripen it up so it's more favourable for the induction? Here's to hoping that you don't have to resort to kidnapping from the hospital !!!

jessysmummy · 27/09/2005 18:14

Sorry to hear you didn't have much luck today, STM. Nad hope the acupuncture has had more of an effect than you thought kiwifruit.
Feel like pooh! Aching neck and headache - lots of pains but in the wrong place. Don't think today's the day for me either. Oh well, tomorrow is another day...

singleteenagemum · 27/09/2005 19:14

Not a successful day for anyone then? you'll be pleased to know though that the majority ofover due babirs have a higher IQ than babies born on time by the time their 4.

kelli22 · 27/09/2005 19:16

i feel so disheartened, MW was a different one from last week and she said she wouldnt perform the sweep at the GP surgery she said she only does them at your home (shes coming tomorrow morning but i was so hoping for today!!!!!!!) as for my induction date but she wouldnt give me one of those either she said normally they do it 12 days over which takes me to next tuesday

fingers crossed for me tonight girls

Kiwifruit · 27/09/2005 20:38

WTF Kellie? What difference does it make where she does the sweep?? That's crazy.

I feel achey and uncomfortable at the moment, but not really expecting anything to happen tonight... Also feel very tired, so think I might take a couple of paracetamol and go to bed soon.

Fingers crossed that someone gets going tonight!!
