Congratulations SGJ, sounds like all went very smoothly. Good to hear she's feeding well too.

Just marking my place - dd is now 5 weeks, but I've been in something of a fog for much of that time, due to repeated hospital treatment and tests for jaundice (now under control), incessant feeding at night so very little sleep, green poos for 4 weeks, trapped wind, an attention-seeking ds (4.6) and an attention-seeking dh, who is feeling very left out.

Now dd has caught ds' and dh's colds, and become very snuffly, making it hard for her to breathe. I've raised her head, put Karvol on a cloth nearby, and although I can't use Vicks on her, I've put it on me - any further suggestions re what can I do to help with this?

Haven't yet read this thread, so apologies for being all me, me, me and not commenting on any posts - I will catch up on all the news later this evening.

Hi Kiwi, my DD has a bad cold too, I have a snot sucker (just a basic bulb you squeeze then stuck it up the nose and it sucks stuff out), think the official name is an aspirator, mine came in a baby care kit with scissors, clippers etc.
Also a saline spray which you can squirt up their nose and makes them sneeze, generally moves the gunk round a bit.
I don't use either very often, just when she sounds very congested and they do seem to help. I've got the Moses basket propped at a bit of an angle in the night too.

Congrats to tiany 4mad and crafty!!

sgj I've not tried nipple shields but it is quite normal for it to hurt initially, ie just as they latch on for about 30s or so. I did get one cracked though so one side was hurting throughout the feed for a while. I'm on day 11 now and my nipples are pretty sorted now, did lash
on a lot of lansinoh though, do you have some? It's great stuff.

I would get your midwife to watch a feed for you on your day 5 check if poss, mine did this yesterday on the day 10 check and wish I'd done it sooner as it was v helpful.

Just a quick note re: Lansinoh. Yes, it's brilliant! And although it's very expensive, you can get it on prescription (so it's free!). My GP was very sympathetic and prescribed me some.

Cor, noone's been back here for ages, have they? Anyone would think we were all busy with our babies, or something! :o

My excuse is that DS has a stonking cold and reflux (and two-and-a-half y.o. DD sick too).

But really, I mustn't grumble. DD was of the constant-feeding, couldn't be moved/put down once asleep without waking and screaming, so it's quite a novelty to have a baby who sleeps/chills out in a moses basket for long enough that I can go to the loo or have a shower! :)

Keep meaning to update the stats thread but not got around to it Blush

So has absolutely everyone popped, then? (Congrats to the most recent ones!)

PrivetDancer · 17/12/2010 10:01
