Congratulations Baljay! And what a pretty name.

Am very much hoping I get offered early induction at my hospital clinic appt on Monday as otherwise am so worried about how huge LO will be.

pkugirl hope sweep goes well tomorrow and starts things off for you. I think Thom is accepted spelling, thanks to Thom Yorke from Radiohead. Would you put Thom or Thomas on his birth certificate? It would certainly be pronounced correctly by any Sandi Thom fans (me!). TBH, people will mis-spell and mis-pronounce even common names, my name is very straightforward but I get people calling me the wrong name all the time. (Think Diane instead of Diana etc etc)

Hope your twinges turn into proper labour for you Lainey, we seem to be taking it in turns to have cx for the last few days! I've just got lower backache now.

comtessa · 27/11/2010 20:48

JFly hope your day improved? Harrumph and grrr at your DH wanting to go to the rugby.

JFly · 27/11/2010 21:06

Thanks, Comtessa. I told DH to go to the rugby as I wasn't going to be happy if he grumped around all day. I told him not to drink, but of course he had "one or two pints". Hmm Good job I didn't have to call him! I'm putting it down to DH being in total denial about this baby. Ostrich city!

DS and I mooched around Wimbledon for the afternoon and then I crashed out while he watched Toy Story. I like to call it parenting by Pixar.

I'm feeling very run down now, after a crap night's sleep. I also think I'll have a similar night tonight, too. Not many twinges during the day but I just think I'll be contracting again tonight. Maybe it will actually turn into something!

Although, my doula is at a ball tonight, so I don't want to ruin her evening. :)

comtessa · 27/11/2010 21:32

The way things seem to be working here LO will start to practise her exit as soon as I try to go to sleep so may be keeping you company later Jfly.

bunnygirl80 · 27/11/2010 22:36

I've managed to find some free time from somewhere so I've attempted to update the stats thread with all the arrivals so far.

Apologoies if I've missed anybody Smile

lisalisa · 27/11/2010 22:42

I haven't really joined in with this thread but wanted to say hello to say that I am having section on Monday 29th with sixth child. Feeling very nervous now but looking forwad to discomfort finally being over. Anyone else suffering with itching?

lainey1981 · 28/11/2010 03:47

hello, posting on here on DPs orders to try and keep my mind off things.
been having contractions all evening which were manageable went to bed but was woken about 12 with the mother of all pains, been having contractions about 4-5 minutes apart since then, getting v painful now.
went to hospital (tis only round the corner) and was sent home as still not dilating and apparently contractions were still 'mild' Shock
they've got a lot worse since I've got home, can't get comfy don't know what to do with myself, taking ages to type this as having contractions!
hopefully will get to 3 mins and lasting a bit longer soon.
I have a feeling birth plan might go out the window
need some pain relief now!! l

Fenouille · 28/11/2010 03:57

Morning lainey hang in there, and if you need the drugs, well, you just need 'em Don't beat yourself up about it :) Hope the cx develop into something soon though.

umf · 28/11/2010 04:31

4.6kg! Do I win whopper prize?

Lainey if u need epi have 1. Last time it was lifesaver, this time I didn't need even gas. There was no merit for me in this - I simply had a much easier birth. It's v good that there is pain relief for when women need it. Good luck.

More tomorrow

Babybean1 · 28/11/2010 04:46

Ooo exciting stuff lainey hope things progress quickly and you can soon hold your new bundle of joy :)

PrivetDancer · 28/11/2010 04:59

Ooh congratulations umf!!

lainey hope you are back in hospital soonand it all gets going quickly

pkugirl · 28/11/2010 07:45

Good luck lainey! Fingers crossed for a swift delivery. You're bringing a person into the world - pain relief or not, who cares? It's a huge accomplishment to give birth. After I did it first time, I knew there was nothing I couldn't do after achieving that Grin

Thanks so much for the name advice, comtessa - that's really helped - now all we need is to firm up a girl's name . . . not like we've had long to decide or anything. Wink

Hi lisalisa very best of luck for tomorrow. 6?! You need a medal! I'm up to #3 but more nervous about this birth than the last two - mind you, last one was 9 yrs ago - have they changed how you do this whole giving birth lark?!

Wondering if anyone here's ever turned down a sweep for any reason..? They didn't do them in 2001! Am wondering if it means stronger contractions earlier or more likelihood of complications in labour? Really should've read up on all this before midwife gets here in an hour and a half to do one!! Would prefer to be totally natural if poss in getting things going, but am completely bored of myself and thought of another week of waiting . . well, I know you know how it is!

Long post, oops!

JFly · 28/11/2010 09:10

Congratulations, umf! 4.6kg, what's that in old money? Assume you got your HB then? Well done, and can't wait to hear more.

Lisalisa, well number 6 is certainly an achievement! Good luck for tomorrow. I may end up with a CS if my VBAC doesn't happen in time. Am a little nervous about that, but suppose after 5 babies you're not worried about it at all!

Good luck, lainey! It sounds like it's all going now. Not long! And remember, you don't get a medal at the end for going without drugs, so do what cha gotta do. You may be surprised at what you can handle, though.Do you have a TENS machine? They can help a lot in early labour (she says probably too late!).

No cx last night so I got a very decent night's sleep, thank goodness. All calm this morning, so no imminent signs of labour. Will try to have a nice day today to make up for yesterday's nonsense.

39+5

comtessa · 28/11/2010 09:43

Congratulations Umf! Just did a quick internet conversion, 4.6kg is 10lbs 2 1/4oz Shock at no pain relief!

You're welcome pkugirl, happy to have helped, hope sweep goes well.

Good luck Lainey! Hope you're cuddling your LO now!

Glad the sunshine is out now as had such horrible night's sleep - not even due to cx, just aching back, hips and knees. And hands, oh my hands.

balijay · 28/11/2010 09:56

Morning. Erm, I posted my new daughters DOB wrong, Blush Blush, it should read 25-11-10, not the 27th. (I was a bit tired last night!)

Privet what happened in the end was I was already 2-3cm dilated on arriving at the hospital, so missed out the pessary stage and went straight to delivery ward to have my waters broken. The midwife couldn't quite manage to get at them though so we paced around for a while and then opted for the drip (cue much nervous whinging from me).Drip started at sometime before 10pm and cx built up nicely so I could easily breathe through them. A couple of stronger cx so I asked for G&A, then suddenly shot off the bouncing ball announcing that I need to push NOW! Onto the bed and Isabella was born in her waters after 2 pushes. So anyone who is feeling nervous re induction - it doesn;t have to be terrible, this was by far the best labour out of my 3 Smile

PrivetDancer · 28/11/2010 12:17

That sounds great, balijay, so quick! I could do with one of those.

Had another sweep this morning, mw was pretty optimistic and said it was as good as it could be. She also said 'when you go, you'll really go!'
Need to hold on a bit though as there's another homebirth happening this morning and only enough midwives for one.

4madboys · 28/11/2010 12:41

yay more new babies, i think we have had one or two big babies now! so congrats on the new arrivals.

balijay i am glad you found the drip ok, i am hoping to go in towards the end of the week for induction if madame hasnt arrived before then, am already a cm or two dilated and cervix thin and efaced blah blah, i cant have the gel so they always just break my waters, but then i get paranoid about that not working and needing the drip, but its good to hear that even if i do need the drip it shouldnt be too bad!

anyhow still niggling away here, baby very low and i keep getting more show, just HOW much of it can there be?!

gradually recovering from the fluey bug i had which is good and making the most of having a few quiet days before this baby turns up, the boys are having a dvd and duvet day, i think i am about to go and have a bath, still not dressed yet Blush

good luck privet!

oh has anyone dared weigh themselves at this late stage in pregnancy? i got weighed at the hospital on wed and have put on one stone and 8lbs, which is 10kgs? i think thats a reasonable weight gain but cant remember what i gained with the others Hmm

PrivetDancer · 28/11/2010 13:14

Omg, yes, I weighed myself this morning - have put on 3 stone!! Half a stone in the last week, pretty much!
I am now the exact weight I was when I went in to labour with DD, despite starting this pregnancy half a stone lighter and not eating as many cakes (I may have a selective memory on this bit)

Glad you are feeling better, 4mad, hope you get at least one decent sleep before the baby appears!

comtessa · 28/11/2010 14:44

[Blush] er, about 4st here. It's all gone on bump and thighs though, can even feel a few ribs above bump. Roll on weight watchers come January!

4madboys · 28/11/2010 15:17

i think running around after the boys has meant that i havent put much on! plus the school run, thats two hours of walking a day and all my cravings have been for salads and celery, my latest thing is ice cubes! in this weather!

lisalisa · 28/11/2010 17:02

thanks for your good wishes everyone - now starting to feel quite nervous as its tomorrow .....

PrivetDancer · 28/11/2010 22:40

Ooh. Contractions started about 50 mins ago, midwife on way!

OP posts:
JFly · 28/11/2010 22:41

Exciting, Privet! Good luck!

comtessa · 28/11/2010 23:46

Hope all goes well for you privet and that you have the birth you're hoping for.

llandb · 29/11/2010 01:11

Privet me due date twin - how exciting! Good luck! :)

JFly Shock at your DH!

Thanks for your advice on t'other thread about clear discharge that isn't nec. amniotic fluid :) PG1, same thing happened and the MW who examined me said she couldn't tell what it was (not enough evidence when I went in). But that the examination would probably bring on labour (it did). The delivery MW broke my waters, so whatever the other stuff had been, it wasn't that!

Awfully interesting what that blog said about the prolonged pre-labour or whatever it's called; had never heard of it till it happened with this preg, and lots of the hippie natural birthers I know IRL said 'oh yeah, normal' Confused

Getting induced on Tues, assuming I haven't popped by then and assuming they're not rushed with emergencies. If it's not favourable for induction, it's straight to c-sec - which I don't mind as such, but would rather be doing without the extended hospital stay, and having to recover with a velcro toddler at home.

Sorry for not being around much - DD's had constant colds/rash/earache/cough and DP had flu and I have been frantically trying to get this tip fit to inhabit and generally knackered.

So without having read the thread (but hope to catch up while BF! :o), congrats to all new mothers, and good luck to those on the way (c'mon, we've nearly run out of November!) :)
