Huge congrats to smokey, bunnygirl, celestine, rinny and all the other new mummies. Hope those with bf problems get them sorted soon.

Update from my primitive little island - Dr wants to do sweep and break membranes at 39 weeks for no reason whatsoever so am plannign to refuse that. Trouble is, once you get to 40 weeks they seem to send you for a scan and tell you the baby's too big and you have to have a CS. Also running around trying to identify blood donors in case of haemorrhage or EMCS as no blood bank here and I have an unusual blood group.

So privet I'm up for the evening primrose experiment tonight!

4madboys · 12/11/2010 18:22

wow sweet grapes thats good going, congratulations Grin

i am DEF doing the evening primrose thing tonight, sooo fed up with being pregnant and have been googling on the internet and its supposed to be a good way of ripening cervix :)

sancerre good on you for refusing the induction at 39wks! and dont let them scare you re the size of the baby, late scans notoriously innacurate and i have delivered an almost 11lb baby fine in a birth pool so big babies can come out naturally :)

Fenouille · 12/11/2010 18:46

Hope you're feeling better soon hmm

Congratulations grapes - our boys share the same birthday :)

He is clever isn't he? Takes after his father :)

sancerrre · 12/11/2010 20:01

Congratulations to sweetgrapes, sounds like a good birth. Am planning the same thing, this time tomorrow, after the evening primrose experiment. [veeeery optimistic face]

cluelessnchaos · 13/11/2010 08:33

So how many of the evening primrose experiments work, is it worth me giving it a go?

4madboys · 13/11/2010 10:03

clueless according to a friend of mine it def helped her, but you do have to do it for several nights in a row to help soften the cervix, its not a one application fix.

i actually didnt do it last night as i was knackered but i have the evening primrose ready in the bathroom for this evening Grin

have to say this baby needs to come out as i have woken up in a bitch of a mood, and so far have been grumpy mummy :( but then the first thing i heard when i woke was boys arguing Angry

dp has suggested monday as a good day to give birth, so that he misses a few busy days at work, if only it were that easy, 'yep thats a good day to give birth, press a button and it begins' Hmm

FourEyesGood · 13/11/2010 10:29

This feels like a bit of a stupid question to ask, but do I need to take sheets/blankets for the baby when I go into hospital for my ELCS?

pyjamalover · 13/11/2010 10:58

More congratulations to all the mums, so many I can't list you all! I'm now 39+1 and at the stage where wondering if every tummy ache/BH/low back pain is the start of something, then it never is. Had strong BH out shopping yesterday and came home as couldn't face going into labour in shopping centre, once I got in the car it all stopped! Part of me just wants baby out now so I can cuddle it and not be pregnant any more, but also realise my life right now with no baby and off work is sooo easy compared to life with a baby.

Really should finish my hospital bag I suppose!

Love the idea of 'yes I'll have the baby on monday' or whatever. I heard of someone who wrote on a birth plan (because she thought they were pointless) 'I plan to go into labour mid morning, have a natuarally pain free labour and birth, and deliver mid afternoon!'

cluelessnchaos · 13/11/2010 11:22

Monday would work for me too, have pencilled it in

PrivetDancer · 13/11/2010 11:42

Well we tried the evening primrose (and sex, nice combination!!) but nada here. Not sure I can be bothered doing it all week! The capsules are pretty small so not too messy really, but still..

I swallowed a couple too in case that also helps. It does say on the pack that they encourage the production of prostiglandins.

DH has decreed that the baby will turn up on Friday, but he was just trying to distract me from shouting at him cos I heard him telling someone the baby was due on 22nd or maybe the 27th (it's actually the 20th Angry)

Hmph, diddlysquat here from the evening primrose, not even a twinge. Mind you, the day is young and am about to go out to a very public place so that up's the chances of something embarassing happening. I'd always pencilled in today as the day so if positive thinking has any effect he'll be popping out shortly. Hmm

lainey1981 · 13/11/2010 13:32

congrats sweetgrapes

right well sent DP out for evening primrose this morning, have popped one orally and shall be putting the other two in tonight.

had a bit of a nightmare day yesterday - spent 3 1/2 hrs at day assessment unit, as thought my waters might have been leaking slowly since wednesday turns out they haven't - just watery discharge Blush
my BP was high when I got seen (prob cos had been waiting for nearly 2hrs at that point) so they decided to put me and baby on a trace to track heart rate and movements etc. all was fine, and they could see I was contracting/having tightenings which made me realise the periody type pains are my uterus getting itself ready. fingers crossed things get moving soon

had horrible internal to check waters, not v nice, but confirmed that cervix still closed Sad - hopefully these evening primrose will change that over the next few days - HTH!

hmmSleep · 13/11/2010 14:11

FourEyesGood, the hospital provide blankets, but they tend to be a bit stiff and uncomfy looking, so I took one anyway, and was handy for wrapping baby in for going home.

4madboys · 13/11/2010 14:34

yes i second taking your own blanket, just for the journey home if nothing else :)

nowt happening here, tho ihave niggly lower back pains and the odd tightening, have had a very lazy day letting the kids just play around, watch tv, etc and i havent even got dressed, still in my pj's Blush

going to put littlest one down for his nap soon and the elder three are going to watch the goonies, i may have a bath :)

Rinnyx · 13/11/2010 19:03

Hope all you ladies, bumps and babies are doing well

balijay · 13/11/2010 20:50

Rinny your son is absolutely georgeous!!

And good luck Mibby hope to hear more news soon.

Can someone tell me when it will be my turn, pleeeease !?

Mibby · 13/11/2010 21:00

Couple of 'tightenings' not really painful but enough to make me stop what i was doing.

Bought the Evening Primrose today but haven't opened it yet. Perhaps the threat was enough :)

Fenouille · 13/11/2010 21:25

hmm mine looks like a teenage mutant ninja turtle (and carts like a teenager too). Nothing like as lovely as Rinny's :)

Good luck mibby

Fenouille · 13/11/2010 21:27

That should of course be farts :) I'm so proud...

comtessa · 13/11/2010 23:09

Warning TMI coming right up: have been having damp knickers these last few days. Could this be leaky waters and should I call MW or wait until I see her on Tuesday? Baby still active as usual so no worries there. Don't think it's urine and sometimes difficult to tell where it's coming from, IYSWIM... help.

comtessa · 13/11/2010 23:12

Whoops, didn't see the other posts - hope all goes well for you Mibby!

BorisTheBold · 14/11/2010 00:16

Hi all,

Finally back - congratulations to all those who've had new arrivals during the last few days and good luck to those still waiting.

Birth story below for those who are interested:
In summary (for those following this saga) we had a cancelled section on 05/11 as breech baby had turned right way up on morning of section date and then flipped to breech again a few days later). So on Tuesday we trotted back to the hospital for the ECV. Spent most of the day there waiting around, blood tests etc, finally got gowned up, cannulla in and scanned to ascertain the best way for them to progress the ECV and guess what...? Yep - the wee b*gger had flipped to head down again! Shock

After much Hmm and Shock the docs decided I should come back in on Weds morning for inducement. Took 1 lot of prostin on Weds morning, which started off some tightenings which were uncomfortable but bearable. Unfortunately, due to the number of admissions to the maternity unit they hosp decided not to give me the second dose of prostin that day - due to shoulder dystocia history and the baby acrobatics they wanted baby to be born during the day when they were fully staffed with senior consultant available.

So kept in overnight (with various drugs to help me sleep - I think I love temazepan after my weeks of insomnia) and onto Thursday morning. Another dose of prostin, followed by a stomach upset for me. I think this was just my body doing the "clear out" in prep for birth, but I informed the midwife who then promptly confirmed me to the delivery room for the remainder of my stay Envy - not great being stuck in a 4 sqm room for over 36 hours! Anyway, third dose of prostin given 3.5 hours late on Thursday night. Midwife told me this wouldn't do anything, as the previous doses hadn't worked and they would section me on Friday morning. I sent dp home as he had slept on a chair in the delivery room the night before.

10pm Thursday night start getting tightenings, not what the docs wanted. So they administered temazepan, di-hi-chloride and finally an injection of pethadine to allow me to sleep, as they thought the tightenings wouldn't lead to anything. None of the above worked, tightenings were regular and painful. Went for a bath around 2.30am and waters broke whilst I was in the bath (I like to be tidy arf!!). The waters weren't clear (greeny/yellow colour) and this freaked me out more than a little. Was moved to another delivery room (don't know why) and called dp to come back to hosp in between contractions. Do arrived (after a shower Hmm at 3.30am and baby Astrid arrived at 4.39am! Despite the expectation of ELCS, then ECV, then ELCS, then forceps and epidural (in line with previous two deliveries) I actually managed to deliver usuing gas and air only!

Admittedly, I did have a hissy fit in the delivery room and demanded my "f epidural now" along with some wailings of not being able to deliver with no pain relief. However, baby was 9lb 4.5oz and was born less than 2 hours after my waters broke. Was only pushing for around 15 mins towards the end - and one of the midwives commended my pushing skills lol!

Feeling really pleased with myself (sad I know), but I'm so not a earth mother type or fit in the slightest and wouldn't have believed I could have managed the birth without an epidural, if you'd have told me beforehand.

Anyway, Astrid and I came home today and I feel pretty good. Not well enough to run a marathon, but way better than either of my previous deliveries. She's decided that my boobs are way better than a bottle for the moment. I was hoping to combination feed, but she's not up for it at the moment.

Will add some pics of her later, but she's very contented (for the moment) and loves a cuddle and I should point out that after all her messing around she did finally make her arrival on her official due date Grin.
