Congratulations Boris :-)

All going ok here, went in, got checked, waters definitely gone (repeatedly, all over bed/ nurse etc - didn't realise there was quite so much of them!), got hooked up to monitor for a while, contractions starting but all over the place, some painful, some not, no pattern so have been sent home to see how things progress. Have to go back at 4pm if no progress before then.

Fenouille · 14/11/2010 08:07

Congratulations boris and Astrid - lovely name :) suitably Scandinavian sounding to match the saga of her birth :)

Hope things get moving for you soon mibby

Things here are going well, since yesterday I've got Einar bf on my left boob. Doesn't seem to like my right one for whatever reason but it's a start.

JFly · 14/11/2010 09:40

Congratulations, Boris and welcome to Astrid! What a lovely name. I hoped she would cooperate eventually! :) Can't believe the laundry list of drugs you endured, but sounds like it was the right cocktail. And that weight! Shock Well done.

Congrats to sweetgrapes, too!

Hard to keep up with arrivals, now.

I had a lovely "baby shower"-type thing yesterday with my NCT friends from DS. We had very grown up cocktails and nibbles in town (well, a glass of champagne for me). I forget how fun and lively London is. I can't remember the last time I went in for an evening. Well, we finished up at 6:30, does that count as evening?? [saddo emoticon]

TMI alert, but anyone else found with sex that you can feel how low your cervix is?? A bit, um, uncomfortable. I can't see me doing it again even if I go overdue. Think last night was a last hurrah. Blush

cluelessnchaos · 14/11/2010 10:39

Well done boris, I know what you mean about feeling very pleased with yourself, I had dd1 with every intervention but dd2 with gas and air and couldn't believe how much better and clearer I felt, there is no way i could have done it first time around but I think your body gives off drugs that make you feel really pleased with yourself.

PrivetDancer · 14/11/2010 11:15

Congratulations, Boris!! astrid clearly had it all planned out and was just stringing you along :)

hope things get moving for you soon, Mibby!

ooh congrats boris and i LOVE the name, it is on our name list and was a fave for a while :)

hope things get going soon mibby xxx

last night i was really uncomfortable, lots of tightenings and lower back pain, ended up spending an age in the bath but it all died away Hmm hopefully tho it is all getting my cervix ready :)

lainey1981 · 14/11/2010 15:58

congrats Boris Well done!

thoroughly fed up today. 4madboys I'm the same as you - lots of tightenings, back pain, period pain, but nothing else seems to be happening.
used the evening primrose (1000mg) tablets last night, and aside from making an oily mess don't think anything has changed. not sure will take orally again as made me feel a bit sick.
have been out for a walk, had sex, ate spicy food, cleaned my bathroom tiles with a toothbrush [sceptical] blah blah, this baby is far too comfy.
am losing track of who has had their babies and who is still waiting like me. saw on another thread that people were putting down their stage of PG at end of thread - thought we could do that here too?

How is everyone else doing on this rainy sunday?

39w exactly!

cluelessnchaos · 14/11/2010 16:10

40 plus 3 and I hate Sundays, I amglad this ones nearly over

sancerrre · 14/11/2010 16:24

Congratulations to Boris - that was a long drawn out one!

Jfly, can't help with your cervix question, DH won't attempt sex any more for fear of poking the baby in the ear!

Quick question - are internal examinations normal in the UK in the weeks leading up to due date? Dr. wants to do a sweep, which she says will probably break waters at 39 weeks. She also tells me she did a sweep without my knowledge at 37 weeks. Currently planning on not letting her do the 39 week one for fear of induction, but just wondering what the norm was in Uk (or France or elsewhere)?

38+5

blondecat · 14/11/2010 17:10

Congratulations rinnyx and Boris.
Your little boy is so sweet and little Astrid sure messed you about but doubts like she's worth it

My cold has morphed into sticky dry cough that leaves me fighting for breath. Have 36 hours to shake it - humidifier, viks, lemons and honey galore. Dh escaped to pub - first time in months and be is French so I thinkn I am getting a bit much for him.

Really hope things clear up by Tuesday as c section can't be much fun with a spit your lungs out cough.

Onnyhe plus side I got waxed on doctors orders prior to the surgery and it wasnt painful at all. Worst thing was getting a good look at stretch marks in mirror she held up to show me her handiwork. Just hope we went low enough.

Good luck mibby and all those starting up!

CONGRATS cORGI, rINNYX AND bORIS!! Ooops Caps.

4mad - I'm feeling exactly the same. I was so niggly yesterday but a bit better today. I really think it might have been because I really couldn't have the baby last night/today as dh had to take ds1 to his race.

Now I don't have that anxiety I am more comfy again Hmm

I have just realised that for the first time I have no reason NOT to have this baby between now and due date. MY calender has been so full with "baby wouldn't be really convenient on this date" days, but not any more Grin

4madboys · 14/11/2010 19:21

rinny, just looked at your fb pics, how CUTE, you have a gorgeous family, congrats! xxx

congratulations CARDI, how much is that in lbs etc i am guessing 8lbs something? hope the feeding gets easier xxx

sancerre internals are NOT normal at the end of preg, unless you request one or they want to check on whether your waters have broken, and a membrane sweep generally not performed till over 40wks.

i wouldnt be happy that you had one without your knowledge! or that she wants to break your waters at 39wks, there is no reason to do this at all.

anyhow tonight is evening primrose night and then tomorrow night when dp is back from work we shall attempt a shag Blush i dont think either of us are that keen, he doesnt like me being pregnant and i just feel cumbersome, but we both want this baby out, so will try anything, well other than castor oil!

and wallace the past few weeks have been crazy here with poorly boys, ds3 still tired but getting better and ds4 finally seems to be getting over his chickenpox/cough/cold so the baby can make an appearance now, tho ds2 has a snow tubing party on wed, so that wouldnt be convenient, oh and a korfball tournament next saturday, other than that tho i think my schedule is fairly clear, well just the usual, music, swimming, after school clubs, play dates etc but nothing that cant be postponed or sorted with the help of friends!

FourEyesGood · 14/11/2010 19:37

Congratulations on all of the new arrivals! (And thanks for the blanket advice - will definitely take one in.)

Due date was today, but apart from having had a show on Friday morning and lots of menstrual feelings, nothing's going on. Was really hoping I could give labour a go, but it seems I'm destined to have this c-section on Tuesday.

DS is really ill - very high temperature, not eating, doesn't even want to watch telly! Shock Will take him to the doctor tomorrow, but the timing couldn't really be worse. :(

sancerrre · 14/11/2010 20:00

Congratulations to Cardicorgi - hope the feeding sorts itself out.

4madboys - thanks very much for confirming that, I thought it was strange. It's hard to go against what the professionals are telling me here but this is obviously one of their bizarre old fashioned practices that I'll politely decline. Glad the DS's are getting better.

blondecat - hope the cough clears up in time.

umf · 14/11/2010 20:08

Congratulations Cardi Rinnyx and Boris! Happy news! And Boris I'm so glad it all went so well in the end. Sounds like they messed you around terribly; I was worried you'd end up with an emcs. Fantastic outcome!

sancerrre no! internals are not normally performed during pg at all in UK! they're even mildly controversial during labour. i would be very, very sceptical about any attempt to sweep, let alone rupture membranes, before cervix really ripe and ready to go. my mw is coming on Sunday (almost 40 weeks) and will do a sweep - but I'll ask her only to do it if everything looks ready. she certainly wouldn't rupture membranes. they only do that in established labour and if there are really good reasons to think it'll help speed up a stalling delivery.

Nothing much happening here. Still damp (comtessa and lainey I have this too and it's getting on my nerves, wondering whether it's waters and if so whether I should do something about it), some mild occasional contractions, bit of lower back pain, but nothing substantial enough to make it worth telling DH to stay at home tomorrow. Very, very tired today, so actually resting for once in life.

blondecat just in case I do go into labour and can't post, get well soon and good luck for Tues!

Fenouille · 14/11/2010 20:19

Congrats Cardi, did you even get one week at home in the end? Lovely name too, is it Bayerisch? As for the feeding; hang in there. We are also having some problems and everyone here has been so supportive. Do come back and let us know how it's going.

sancerre internals are not normal here (France) either, and this country seems to be the mother lode of intervention. Also a bit Shock that she did a sweep without your permission. Any way you can change midwife? You're in S. America right?

sancerrre · 14/11/2010 20:22

thanks umf, I'll definitely be telling her to sod off with her internal. Trouble is, if you get to 40 weeks they tend to send you for a scan and tell you baby is too big (whether it is or not) and send you off for a caesarian. Maybe I'll just see if I can find an airline willing to fly me back to England at 39 weeks!

Good luck to all with twinges, mysterious dampness and other signs. Think I'll be a while yet, unless I get tricked into any other unnecessary interventions by the Dr!

umf · 14/11/2010 20:31

sancerrre all the best. last thing you need at the moment, feeling like you have to fight the quacks . My antenatal care last time in London was like that, very stressful. having to argue (through pg and then even labour) that you really do think your body is capable of doing this...

JFly · 14/11/2010 21:14

Congrats, Corgi! Your DD shares a birthday with me. :)

Can't believe the unauthorised sweep, sancerre! That is shocking. IME, they are very unenthusiastic about sweeps here; many MWs I've seen just don't think they work. And most that will do them say only sweep if conditions are favourable. So, def not a matter of course and certainly not before due date. Saying that, I have one booked in for December 2nd (3 days post EDD) but that's all part of the "just in case VBAC doesn't happen" plan. I don't think they'll do it, really, if I'm not looking ready.

4mad, I still can't get my head around you having 4 DC, let alone expecting one more! You are a trooper. :)

DS has a nasty cough which I seem to have caught now, so fully expecting DH to get it and be down with man flu by the time I go into labour. Everyone I know is sick, though, so must be something awful going around. Have to pin DS down to get anti-b's in him and I'm sure he's not getting but half a dose at a time. Next time think I will skip them. What a faff.

Oh, and I'm 37+5.

PrivetDancer · 14/11/2010 22:44

Congrats cardi!!

Well I've had a day and a half.. DD swallowed a pound coin earlier. After some whacking between the shoulder blades (but she was never actually choking, she stayed pink and noisy throughout) we took her to a&e, they xrayed her and it was stuck at top of throat still so v risky as could still get in to airway. So then was transferred in ambulance to a bigger hospital with sirens etc, (me in ambulance dh in car with instructions to pick up labour bag just in case!!). They decided to do another X-ray to check it hadn't moved, and it had finally made it to the stomach. Thank god for that, was not relishing her having an op to extract it!
So now we are at home again and she is asleep and seems fine. Aagh.

Would recommend you all do a first aid course :)
I actually did a st John one last week, organised by nct and it was bloody useful today as I knew not to panic as could tell she was still breathing, but also knew what to do to try and get it out.

Am 39+1. Just had a bit of a show too.

OP posts:
lainey1981 · 15/11/2010 01:53

congrats cardi

am posting as cannot sleep at all. have been having tightenings all evening 10-16 minutes apart, not especially painful just uncomfortable, DP was getting excited, I was telling him it was nothing.

went to bed at10 but have had constant lower back pain since, so have had to give up and get out of bed.
just wish I knew what it was Sad - is it the early stages of something - is it back labour? or is it just another fun part of late pregnancy. Confused

comtessa · 15/11/2010 03:28

Hello lainey and any other night owls. I think I may be in labour too. No show or waters breaking but mild contractions since going to bed around 11pm, now closer together but not yet painful, only uncomfortable and wondering whether to call labour suite or not. Gah! to being inexperienced first time Mum!

comtessa · 15/11/2010 04:10

PS 38 +1

PrivetDancer · 15/11/2010 07:30

Hi, I've woken up to quite mild pains too. Bit indistinct to time at the moment, but I have a funny feeling this might be it.
Currently pacing around downstairs while everyone else is asleep.

39+2 maybe the evening primaries did work after all
