Congratulations bunnygirl! What difficulties are you having with feeding? Might be able to offer a bit of help/suggestions? As others have mentioned, the first bit is tricky because your nipples are going to be getting very sensitive from all the activity, but certainly if baby isn't latching properly you'll end up getting very very sore and baby won't be getting much to eat, will get upset and make the whole process even harder for you. It's a bit of a vicious cycle really. Make sure you don't let your MW leave without checking your latch, and if she is clueless get in touch with someone from La Leche League, they are usually fantastic. And of course tell us! We'll be more than happy to offer some suggestions, if you feel it might help. Some good advice I was given was to rub the nipple on baby's nose so he has to move his head up and open his mouth wider, then stuff as much in as you can, he should have a lot of areola in his mouth, not just nipple. Anyway, you probably haven't got much time for reading, but hope things are getting easier for you!

Fenouille · 12/11/2010 10:24

Congrats bunny sounds like an ideal labour if a little ouch!

I can definitely recommend the LLL if your MW can't help with the bf.

And for moral support everyone here has been wonderful :) Come back and tell us how you get on if you can find the time.

balijay · 12/11/2010 11:16

Woah there bunny we were due on the same day and you have your baby already?? Jealous? Moi? You bet I am !! Congrats!!

Hi to everyone else, hope you are having a good day

umf · 12/11/2010 11:28

Congratulations bunny!! Hoping very much for a labour like that! Hope the feeding improves now.

Nowt happening here. If that was a leak, which I think it probably was, then it's stopped. Which is a shame, cos 12/11/10 would be such a fabulous birth date.

grinningbee · 12/11/2010 11:39

Congratulations Bunny!

Umf I was also thinking today would be a good birthday. However, there is zip going on here.

Apart from me crying, that is. Dh has just phoned to say he was run off the road by a van. Went round a corner to find van coming at him on his side of the road, so he ended up in a ditch.

Car damaged. He is alright though, thankfully. Luckily he saw the business name, so we can follow it up. Why is nothing ever straight forward?!? Angry

My dad phoned yesterday to ask if there had been a new arrival yet. Does he really think I wouldn't tell him??? Along with MIL he thinks I should take castor oil to hurry things up. I didn't realise we were still in the dark ages... Hmm

Due date tomorrow, but I really can't see anything happening. The little fella will arrive when good and ready. I may stop going out though as I am sick of the "not here yet" comments!

It must be time for some cake... Grin

umf · 12/11/2010 12:09

grinning how frightening for DH! And you! Is the car ok - will you need it to get to hosp?

Castor oil! They forced my grandma to drink that in 1952. It sounds pretty grim. All she'll say about that birth is that she didn't have her own orange squash (apparently you were supposed to?? Not on the modern hosp bag lists) but the lady in the next bed gave her some to put in the oil.

Wallace tricky having to take into account everyone's schedules, isn't it?? My ideal day would be next Sat, after DH's deadline, between my mother's meetings, and while my usual MW is on duty. Bit tricky to pull off, tho. Maybe will try the caster oil after all.

grinningbee · 12/11/2010 12:28

Car is not ok, and yes, we need it. The hospital is just over an hour away...

Dh mends cars for a living (thank goodness!) and currently has it at a friends workshop assessing/fixing the damage - I hope. This also means he is over an hour away from me with no driveable car.

I am thinking happy thoughts, having just got dd down for a nap, drinking some decaf coffee and eating a toffee crisp. Yummy!

I've read on here about castor oil. It gives you the squits. How nice would that be in labour/birth!

4madboys · 12/11/2010 13:29

congrats BUNNY Grin

grinning bee, nightmare about the car, hope it is sorted pronto.

nowt happening here and i am starting to feel a bit fed up, just tired and as the little two are still not properly well i have had lots of whinging etc from them which is testing my patience.....

i FINALLY managed to get through to the health in pregnancy grant people today, i applied for it in aug and have heard nothing! everytime i phoned they were too busy or else the computer system was down, blah blah. anyway turns out my payment was authorised ages ago but somehow didnt get processed any further than that, i should now get the money in the next week Grin

so much for using it to be healthy in pregnancy, i only have two weeks left Hmm

re castor oil, i know someone who used that, but i would never dare, i am going to try a new tip that i have heard, which is to get evening primrose oil capsules in the gel capsule and then you put them on or as near your cerivx as you can, do it at night and wear a pad as it can be a bit messy apparently, but have heard it gets good results and as it seems fairly natural i am willing to give it a try, anything to avoid going two weeks over like i did with the boys!

umf · 12/11/2010 13:51

Thanks 4!

4madboys · 12/11/2010 13:57

lol, i am going to get some this afternoon from the chemist! plus some floradix stuff as i am so tired, my iron levels are 9.8 so low but not too low, but hoping the floradix will help a bit for these last few weeks.

you need the 500 or 1000 capsules and they recomend putting two up! got to be worth a try!

umf · 12/11/2010 14:04

on reflection, should decide whether or not waters leaking before messing around in there!

is floradix the liquid iron? i'm on that too. but bear in mind it takes about 4 weeks to build new haemoglobin, so the benefits take a while to kick in.

Gemjar · 12/11/2010 14:05

grinningbee - I had the same thing with my mum and my dad, they both rang last week to check if anything had happened yet??!!! As if DH's first job isn't to call them both as soon as anything kicks off

4madboys · 12/11/2010 14:15

yeah floradix is the liquid one, i may have almost 4 wks to go if madame is as late as her brothers, but i will carry on taking it whilst bfeeding etc, just to see if it helps my energy levels, tbh i just think its been a stressful month with ds3 being so poorly and ds4 having chickenpox and i am just done with being preg, 4 out of the last 10yrs i have been preg for! i have so had enough, and am sure i will feel better once i have had the baby :)

re phone calls, we are getting that and txt, ffs with the other 4 we told you all as soon as baby arrived! and we will do this time, so sod off.

umf · 12/11/2010 14:19

Yes, and I needed the extra iron after DS's birth, having lost quite a bit of blood. So definitely want good strong iron levels now.

Doula visited yesterday for chat and to give me TENS machine. Feel about 100x more positive about this pg and birth, having 1 nice normal midwife, competent hospital, and nice doula.

Fenouille · 12/11/2010 14:59

Oh grinning what a nightmare, so glad your DH is alright though - but a bit shocked that the other guy didn't stop.

For those of you who still have any interest in the saga of my son's tongue, this morning we got a bit of blood on the muslin when we burped him and half-an-hour later DH said, "He's just stuck his tongue out!" It seems to have only been a filament at the front which he's managed to tear. Yay! So much for the "too dangerous to cut it without anesthetic".

Anyway, hope you all are having nice days and I'm looking forward to see who's going to pop next :)

grinningbee · 12/11/2010 15:16

That's good news Fenouille. Hopefully it'll make feeding easier for you both.

blondecat · 12/11/2010 15:59

Re primes oil

Was it your MW who told you?I am sorry to be negAtive but consultant said in the last fw days its better to put nothing up there that is not sterile, and ESP not for longish periods of time. Apparently infected birth canal during labour is not fun

In my case we are also banned from making love since it could trigger things and lead to emergency section as LO cannot come out on her own. So maybe he is just extra cautious.

Castor oil - Diahhra is known to trigger labour thats true so that might just work. But are you willing to pay that price?! I shudder

Grinning, that sounds awful. Hope you get iot sorted asap in meantime I'd call the hospital and ask if they have volunteers with cars etc to bring you in. Mine said they sometimes do that and knowing it you may get some peace of mind. I am sure daddy to be will get it fixed or get back up soon though

Bunny congratulations. I am sure in a w days bf will be fine. But honest.y it is the bit I dread - for my siestas it was worse thnq labour!

Fenouille- well done lone warrior. Your baby is smArter than his doctor. And well
L done dh for sticking his tongue out!

4madboys · 12/11/2010 16:52

think your consultant being extra cautious, evening primrose oil fine, all natural no reason it should give you an infection.

plus midwifes etc actively encourage sex to help bring on labour, unless of course you have had bleeding or your waters have broken, once waters have broken you dont want to do anything that might be an infection risk obviously.

but my waters are intact so baby happyily contained, i have two close friends who have done the evening primrose oil thing and from what i have read it is quite a common way of helping cervix to get ready, the chemist had even heard of it and said 'ah i know what you will be doing with these' when i bought them Blush

FENN fab that little one has sorted his tongue out, hope feeding gets easier, and i cant believe they wouldnt cut it, mind you my local hospital doesnt either, i would have to travel to Ipswich if the baby turned out to have tongue tie, the boys were all fine tho so hoping madame will be too.

i am another one that wont dare try castor oil, already get bh's which give me an upset tummy, NO way to i want the runs from castor oil!

JFly · 12/11/2010 16:54

Great news, Fen! I had no idea that could happen on its own. Fab.

Can I add a tip for those who are having ELCS, or know there's a chance they (and or baby) may have a antibiotics during/after birth? Start taking some probiotics. My osteopath recommended taking them last time (and what do you know, I had a EMCS) and I think it really helped me and DS feed better. I've heard a lot of stories of people who had anti-bs (both mum and baby) and it can upset tummies all over the shop. I reckon the probiotics sorted our systems out and neither of us suffered with funny tummies.

hmmSleep · 12/11/2010 17:04

Congratulations to Rinny, Bunny, celestinelass, smokey and fromheretomaternity, phew, babies babies everywhere!

Glad to hear your little one sorted his own tongue out Fenouille, he obviously heard the saying 'if you need something doing!'

Hope you get the car sorted Grinning.

Not great here, woke in the night with very painful right breast (Lottie seems to dislike this side so was worried this might happen) which quickly deteriorated into high temperature, headache and vomiting, now on antibiotics for infected mastitis, very sore and feel awful but hopefully will all clear up soon. Was ordered home to bed by GP, so poor Dh had to take an impromptu day off work to sort out the Dcs. Off to get the frozen peas to put on my breast now!

PrivetDancer · 12/11/2010 17:17

Oh bless your DS, Fen. What a clever boy :)

DH has been instructed to come home with some evening primrose capsules. :o
Are we all trying it tonight?!

Hello ladies! Congratulations to all those with lovely little ones...

I had my baby on the third. A little baby boy who was in a big rush! The midwife checked me a said 2cm and 3 minutes and 3 contractions later, I said 'I wanna push', she said 'whaaat' and came and checked and sure enough there was baby's head - all ready to come out!

We were both a little shocked - baby and me and maybe the midwife too!

Still haven't thought of a name yet.

(My second VBAC, btw)
