New trimester, new thread. Here's to us becoming grumpy, impatient, fat and uncomfy while counting down the days... :o [hhmm] :o

Sorry, me again, we were talking about birth plans this weekend. I have an idea of what I'd like e.g. birth pool etc. but how do I get this recorded? I'm seeing the midwife again on Wednesday so will ask her too but from the list of things it looks like this week she tells me all about how breastfeeding is important.

LadyBuzz · 01/11/2010 15:24

running I don't know if it differs depending on where you are but my MW asked me to write it down just on whatever paper and she stuck it into my mat notes for me.

I was making great inroads into the shite spare room until yesterday when water started to pour through the hall ceiling, grr we had no heating ,electricity or water last night. today we have all of those but a condemned toilet and sink (thankfully we have 2) so now the room is full of different crap! hey ho I conned an extra day off work to wait for the plumber though Grin

mad cold drinks always get babybuzz going too, not that she needs much encouragement. I hope she sleeps more when she is born then she does now!

SIL brought me a blanket yesterday that she had knit with pom pom wool - it is soooo cute and soft and snuggly - perfect for cold January!

AmIGoingMad · 01/11/2010 17:26

Thanks for all the advice on getting the kicking going again! I'm off to get some cold drinks when I've finished on here! Little one is kicking back and forth just not as much as beginning of weekend- maybe he/she can sense I'm back in work today so wanted to give me a rest- little does baby know that I love the kicking- I just find it really reassuring!
Also good to hear positive feedback on the dream genii- will have a look around for one.
With the birth plan-my MW keeps telling me not to worry and we'll discuss stuff later on. Don't think she realises that some people like to have all the facts as soon as poss so that they can feel slightly more like they have a clue!
LadyBuzz sorry to hear about your ceiling disaster-what timing! At least it's before the baby arrives tho!
bubba spoke to them again in school today and they've agreed that it's poss to say my mat leave starts on the 3rd Jan if term starts on 4thJan so just have to think that through now! Ta for advice!

BubbaAndBump · 01/11/2010 19:39

Mad the baby may also be kicking less because it's bigger and there's less room to play! If you've seen my pic, you'll see my poor belly is stretched to host a few bubbas at once so it still wriggles around like looney tunes [sigh]

We just heard tonight that we've got planning permission to turn our internal garage into an extra living room (the plan is that it'll be my lovely no-toys-allowed chill sitting room place) - WOOHOO!! :o

Sorry just read your post LadyB - Poor you - sounds a nightmare! Better now than when #3 comes along I s'pose? Hmm

DH was mentioning the ridiculous kicking of this baby and said "sure the others didn't kick this early" and I said "you do realise this baby's coming in about 11 weeks?!" ~ he turned white!! :o Can't wait though. Already wishing the time away to get to Christmas and then January :)

V. bad luck about the leak LadyB. Hope it isn't expensive to fix.

I got my confirmation of leave today from work. I had miscalculated it with my shocking bad maths skills so will actually have 2 fewer weeks unpaid than I thought. Yay!

I have a dream genii among the pillow mountain and it is fab. I don't usually lie on it like you're supposed to because I get tangled up turning over in the night, but it is great to have behind you for back support.

We went to a wedding on Friday which was absolutely lovely, but my goodness I paid for it on Saturday - epic sicking. This seems to happen whenever we go out for the day, have friends over, etc. Slightly scary and frustrating how little I can do without getting ill Sad.

Pootle78 · 01/11/2010 21:13

Bless you Flora hope you are feeling better now.

LadyB we have the same problem, must have been the ghosts of halloween as we refused to open the door and then found later last night our water tank is leaking and have green slimey algae growing on the tank cupboard floor and just starting to soak into the cupbaord, oh and to add to that the shower has leaked big time and the floor in the bath room looks like it will need coming up! Call to the insurnace company today, wouldn't mind but we had to call them out a month ago as British Gas condemed our gas pipe and we had no heating or hot water for 5 days! Anyway enough of my issues!

As for the pillows, there is a similar one in Argos for £24.85 - here Hope this link works, I brought one of these after a triage nurse in A & E recommended it here

LadyBuzz · 01/11/2010 22:24

pootle how crap for you, its just so bloody annoying when things like this happen and inconvenient. but like some people have said better now then in Jan when we have a little person to think about too.

flora poor love hope you feel better.

I have a V shaped pillow that I got when I was pg with DS1 it was great for feeding and then for when he started to sit up himself and then again for DS2, I just have to find it this time! It was just a cheap thing but I would have splurged if I had known how much I would have had out of it!

Sorry to hear that JJKM is the last thing you need. I don't know much about strep b so will definitely look into it. Hope you and the twins are being well looked after.

Bad news about the water problems pootle and ladyb hope they are sorted quickly and cheaply!!

My bump seems to have decided to nestle into my right hand side the last couple of days which is a bit of a weird sensation, is starting to feel a bit cramped in there. Had my midwife appointment today and she said sometimes they do prefer one side, strange!!

AmIGoingMad · 02/11/2010 20:48

Sorry to hear that jjkm. Good news that the twin that was infected is better now tho!
Pootle- sorry to hear about your disaster too-what timing!
I ended up phoning midwife this morning as lack of movement was driving me insane. They were fab and I went in this afternoon for monitoring which showed everythings to be fine and also meant that I got to listen to hearbeat for half hour during monitoring! Quite typically little one decided to start wriggling round again when I was waiting in waiting area! Wouldn't have changed that for the world tho! And the midwife was lovely and said they'd much rather people phone and go in if they're concerned than stress themselves into a problem! Smile
Congrats bubba on the planning permission!

LadyBuzz · 02/11/2010 21:29

mad glad your mind was put at rest.

jjkm get well soon

bubba new building how exciting, we have just moved to a house with a play room and seperate living room - it is fab!

Well we have just had the electrician out as the plumber couldn't get any current from the socket connected to the toilet (its one of those saniflow things) so we called the electrician and he informed us that it had been turned off at the switch Blush Blush Blush so 2 floods and a ruined floor later - how stupid do we feel? Thankfully it won't cost alot to sort the floor i'm so embarrassed!

CupcakesHay · 03/11/2010 08:32

Hello All

Sorry been so quiet - have got friends visiting which is LOVELY but tiring - although lots of scrabble playing which is good!

Sorry to hear about flood ladyB - and the Blush turned off switch!

bubba grown up living room sounds great... and jjkm thanks for the warning - keep getting better!

And on my front - I have AWFUL wind (nice!Blush) - so that's nice for everyone at my house! but really really painful - for the last 3 days! I've been sleeping dreadfully cos of it - and for the first time in ages, I have actually felt pretty pregnant.

Hoping the crib gets delivered from the embassy's furniture stores this week - so i can check the dimensions and make sure it's safe (and clean)... and i might finally get around to starting on my final assignment for my PGCE course. Ugh....

RunningKatie · 03/11/2010 15:02

JJKM - sorry to hear about the strep B, I'd heard about that and it was on my list to speak to the midwife about. Hope that both twins are doing well and the antibiotics are helping you.

Bad news on the flooding front LadyB.

Cupcakes - I know what you mean Blush, Sunday night was a bit of a shocker, I'm just very glad DP slept through.

Mad - typical baby, mine goes quiet, I complain to DP about it and then it has some sort of mexican wave dance going on as soon as he goes near the bump.

Anyway, 28 week midwife check this morning, more blood, BP is still nice and low, fundal height is in the 70th percentile, baby kicked the fetal heart rate probe, but more importantly is currently head downwards so I'd like to keep it that way! :)

Tonight, I shall mostly be hurling abuse at The Apprentice and ironing the new nursery curtains.

CupcakesHay · 03/11/2010 21:21

running are you relaxing still???? I hope so young lady!

Told Dh about whole strep thing, and (heaven forbid) he actually seemed interested and was awfully proactive for him, and sent me a link: www.mumstuff.co.uk/acatalog/Group-B-Streptococcus-Screening-Test-Kit.html

My friends are flying tomorrow, so even if i am still a little bit Blushwindy, at least it's just me, the cats and DH!

Can't believe I fly home in just over 2 weeks.... seemes like just yesterday I got back to Syria.

Also, I decided I LOVE baby kicking and I think overall, i LOVE being pregnant Grin although I def think it's easier not working and just winding up my studies. I admire all you working girls and already mums very very much!

FloraPost · 03/11/2010 21:34

Hm, the strep b thing is worrying. We know someone whose baby died at 9 days from strep b infection so I asked about it at the booking appointment. Our hospital won't test Sad so I guess it's fingers crossed.

I've had shocking windypops for a while, but thankfully it (almost) all comes out the top.

Tiny Flora has been jolly forceful today Smile. I was surprised no-one at work said anything about the stream of kicks clearly visible through my clothes. He seems very much to do his own thing though; doesn't particularly respond to me or DP talking to or touching the bump. He does kick when the cat sits on him, but that is surely in protest Hmm.

BubbaAndBump · 03/11/2010 21:57

Hi ladies. Sorry for your embarrassment LadyB but it was very funny for us to read :o :o

Poor jjkm with the Strep B - wishing you and your twins speedy recovery.

Glad you're enjoying the kicking cupcakes - we will of course remind you of that in two or so months! Wink

I'm also hurling abuse at The Apprentice RunningK - Paloma's showing her true colours tonight! Think she might be out of it.

My glucose test came back high so I have to go for another GTT next week :( - possible gestational diabetes :(
Also seeing consultant midwife next week to discuss the huge size of my last baby and my "options" (or lack of them) for this delivery. :(

OP posts:
eightisseventoomany · 03/11/2010 23:25

Ive been sooooo busy.... not had chance to come on here for weeks...Blush
cant believe jjkm has had her twins while Ive been away !!!!
wow....huge congratulations & hope your all OK...(other than the strep b) !!! can never just go smoothly can it!!! grrr
how far along were you?
Im now 30&4 .....only another 9 weeks to go...which will fly by no doubt.

have just celebrated the twins 1st birthday, followed by 3 of my youngest sons birthdays (also in October)....then we had a half term break away....(lots of packing...then washing to be done now home!!) took the little ones trick & treating on sunday, and spent tonight doing fireworks at home (as Legoland ones were cancelled last minute!!!)
so has just been manic. Shock

have quickly tried to catch up on all the news.....hope everyone is OK, ??

CupcakesHay · 04/11/2010 07:43

bubba POO! Poor you. I'll keep fingers crossed it was just random highness - and not gestational diabetes.

Mumsy i'm exhausted just reading your list of what you've been doing!

I'm off to fireworks party tonight and then NOTHING all weekend. Friends flew home this morning (flying as i type) - and as lovely as it was I am very tired....

I'm currently 27.5 weeks and wondering where all the time has gone so far... feels like only yesterday I was awake at 5am waiting patiently for DH's alarm to go off to tell him the good news (he's not very good in the mornings!)

And flora my bump is the same with our cats - makes me laugh - they get all comfortable and then he gives them a heft kick and they get all grumpy! it's their fault for squashing him.

eightisseventoomany · 04/11/2010 09:58

Grin @ CupcakesHay

I have just been reading about strep B..
I cannot believe after all my children, over 15 years of having them at over 4 different hospitals in the UK...this is something I have never known about !! Shock

An infection which affects 700 babies in the UK alone every year !! and unfortunately takes the life of 75 of those babies every year...
WHY ON EARTH is this not routinely tested for in the UK???!!!!!
I am shocked & upset hearing some of the personal stories from people affected by this.
One poor lady who was found to be carrying it (only whilst in the throes of labour) was treated for it....but the hospital then FAILED to check her baby for it !!!!???!!! who later passed away at just 10 days old !!
it makes you want to scream at the incompetence of our government/NHS at times Angry

sorry about the rant ...

eightisseventoomany · 04/11/2010 10:01

oh....I forgot....
our government is bit too busy helping all our criminals with their human rights !!!!!!!!!! Angry Angry Angry

FloraPost · 05/11/2010 07:48

Possibly fair point re. the government, but calling the NHS incompetent is pretty harsh.

I don't think the cuts have yet gone so far that the MoJ is now responsible for healthcare. Have a read of the judgement Mumsy. What it says is that disenfranchisement should be recognised as a punishment in itself and applied as such, not automatically lumped in with custodial sentencing as it has been up to now. It's still entirely possible for prisoners to be deprived of the right to vote.

Anyway, sorry for going off topic. I am off to buy some maltesers for Tiny Flora to kick off my stomach.

CupcakesHay · 05/11/2010 09:23

On the Strep B thing - I was speaking to my mum last night, and asking her about a friend of her's sister, who decided to have a homebirth for her second baby. This is about 5 years ago now... anyhow - I never knew what happened (or maybe someone told me at the time and I just wasn't in "baby mode") - but the baby died and apparently could all have been sorted with antibiotics - and yeah - surprise surprise - turned out to be Strep B.

So I'm Def getting the test done.

Went to a FAB fireworks party last night at my friends house.... yummy irish stew and was lovely to catch up with people - and i was really impressed - I managed to stay so late that loads of people left before me!!!

And another Girl out here has arranged a bit of a girl's dinner for me and other pregnant girl - so that we can hear all the horrors of their child birth! Hmm

What's everyone's weekend plans? I'm organising packing and going to DEF do some studying on Sunday (if you see me on here - tell me off!)

Pootle78 · 05/11/2010 13:14

Hello! I've had to work from home today as for some reason I couldn't sleep last night and I currently look like death warmed up according to somebody in the office!!!

Bubba hope the next GTT will be more favourable

LadyB glad your flooding issue has been sorted, we had the loss adjuster out today and he reckons ours will cost over £2k worth of work Shock so glad we have insurance!

JJKM hope all is well, thank you for raising the strep B issue, it is something I had heard about but never knew how bad it would be - will raise with midwife at next appointment

Cupcakes I am with you on the liking the kicking thing, although I don't get many kicks but lots of wiggles! DH likes to think that baby is in my tummy swimming lengths and taps the end and goes back again as luckily it hasn't worked out there is space above my belly button or too far below - I'm sure that will change!

I feel your pain on the studying too have just finsihed an OU course which if I am brutally honest managed about 30 hours work on it since I found out I was pregnant and then sat in the exams thinking what am I doing here! Fingers crossed baby gave me some pearls of wisdom when writing, failing that resits are in May - will baby brain be over by then Hmm

I have my anti-d appointment this afternoon and hopefully may be going over to Kiddicare to look at prams, it is such a minefield, I wish someone would just say "here's your pram, get on with it" and then fireworks tonight!

Have a good weekend everybody

girlafraid · 05/11/2010 13:17

Just popping in to say hello

I've been on the Feb 2011 threads but as I now have an elcs booked for 31 Jan I just about qualify here too....

The downside is that you all make me feel really disorganised, have painted new baby's room but nothing else has been done yet!

RunningKatie · 05/11/2010 13:32

I'm having a right sulk this afternoon, have had to go to the toilet for a cry, and the bump's been all upset by me being upset.

My maternity cover has been off sick all week, so I've not handed over to him yet, I'd rather he didn't bring his projectile vomitting into the office but it's just frustrating.

I was going to my first aquanatal class this afternoon but can't because we're so busy. I know they don't have to give me the time off but I was really looking forward to it.

TGI Friday - i'm going to take bump home bang on 5pm, and we're going to have a nice bath with some candles, a bath bomb, the radio and a good book.

Sorry to be so sulky. Promise to snap out of it in time for the weekend.
