New trimester, new thread. Here's to us becoming grumpy, impatient, fat and uncomfy while counting down the days... :o [hhmm] :o

Great news Knackered :)

Zippy - why were they all turning up at the labour ward with pillows? Is there some going into labour secret that I've not learnt yet about pillows?

Got first NCT class tomorrow eve, not entirely sure where it is but I suspect it's up a great big hill.

ZippyPippy · 01/12/2010 16:58

CONGRATS knackered that is wonderful news.

Not sure about the pillows running, I think that was cupcakes?

I think it's just a universal rule that you have to take your own pillows for maximum comfort as the hospital ones are rubbish. I can't verify that though having never stayed in hospital...

Hi all, just trying to catch up on all the news as not been about for a while. Manic couple of weeks here, officially finished work last week but DD was in hospital a couple of times with a chest infection, 40 degree temp and breathing difficulties. All a bit scary but she's better now and I got my work finished yesterday.
Knackered that's great news, thanks for letting us know. Jjkm glad to hear your girls are doing well.
Not packed a bag here yet, didn't take pillows last time but may well do this time as hospital ones were rubbish. If you don't pack sports bottles of drinks then take bendy straws so you can get a drink no matter what funny position you end up in.
Hope everyone is keeping ok in this weather, very little snow here just really cold!

BubbaAndBump · 01/12/2010 19:49

Hey knackered - really, really happy for you, you clever thing!! :o :o :o At the risk of being accused of being a stalker, I saw your name on the Jue June (?) thread and considered posting there to say hi and congrats, but didn't know if you'd remember me and then you could definitely accuse me of being a stalker :o. Very pleased for you either way :)

Hey Fuzzy long time no hear - hope your DD is fully better. Poor you with the stress of that too.

Have never considered the merits or otherwise of hospital pillows tbh.

DD all good now thanks Bubba though she does claim to still be poorly and demand to be allowed to watch her Snow White DVD. Snuggling on the sofa was all she was capable of last week so she tries the I'm poorly card as a reason to watch tv. Amazing how canny 2 year olds are, though if I have to watch that film one more time I think I'll go mad!
Just been sorting out the Moses basket bedding, seems very close now!

RunningKatie · 02/12/2010 16:49

Another snowy day today. Going out later to NCT class, apparently it is on as the main roads are clear. I hope we get coffee and biccies when we get there.

Bump is still shifting from left to right on a daily basis, surely it's going to run out of room eventually?!

knackered76 · 02/12/2010 19:28

Jjkm lovely news about your twins. I know it can obviously be a really stressful time but sounds like they are doing great and not too long until you can bring them home Grin

Bubbaandbump You can stalk me all you like :) You have constantly popped into my mind whenever I ate brie Grin. Glad everything is going well for you!

FloraPost · 02/12/2010 21:44

Congratulations knackered, that's wonderful.

2nd growth scan today. The femur is still below the 5th centile but is closer to normal range than it was before. Apparently the concern was that the legs had stopped growing, but that isn't the case, in fact the growth rate has increased a little in the last 2 weeks. Thus it looks like Tiny Flora is a short arse rather than anything pathlogical Smile. More growth scans to come though, just in case.

Saw the GP also, having been thwarted by snow earlier in the week. She agrees I don't need consultant care so hopefully all that rubbish will stop.

Mmmm, brie....not sure heartburn permits atm, but it's definitely going in the hospital bag.

SunOverStars · 03/12/2010 00:41

Hi folks!!!!

I was under the previous names 'Stardown' and 'Starberries' before further up the thread. Are we the first January baby????

DP and I in a civil partnership - two women - wanted to clear up any confusion Grin

32 weeks plus 5 today. Very dramatic birth story - DP started having twinges at 8am, and some fluid leakage, progressively pains got worse until about 3-4mins apart by 8.30. Couldn't get a taxi, ambulance, or bus due to so much SNOW down in Surrey/Kent! Labour ward advised walking to nearby GP's office.

Got to GP at 8.50, contractions every 2 mins. By 9.15 waters had broken & had quite a bit of blood, ambulance on the way, DP in lots of pain. 9.30 ambulance arrived, we were scared she'd deliver in the GP's office! DP had no trousers on as water broke inside them so had to get on stretcher, covered by blanket, and whisked out of GP's office into snow-covered street with lots of onlookers!! Grin Very dramatic. Got to hospital by 9.55, rushed into labour ward, team of 5 (midwife, head midwife, consultant obstetrician, 2 SCBU doctors) in labour ward. Checked DP who was fully dilated and baby's head nearly crowning!!

Pushed him out in 5 pushes at 10.05, 2 hours and 5 minutes from start to finish!!

Elias Hugo was 4 lb 14 oz (2.2 kgs) and had to have some oxygen - he is on CPAP in SCBU at the minute, they did a chest x-ray and bloodwork which came back normal. He was a VERY good weight for his gestation - probably down to DP's diabetes, but soooo happy he's bigger than normal. Since DP had absolutely NO pain relief, just a few stitches, she was ready to go home 2 hours after birth! Labour ward full and no beds empty so we were just now discharged after 7 hours.

Going back in the morning to see him and will update then!

FloraPost · 03/12/2010 05:43

Congratulatios Stars, what a lovely name. Sounds like the labour was pretty terrifying for you and your DP. I hope she is ok. Hope your little one can come home soon too.

RunningKatie · 03/12/2010 08:57

Oh my goodness, congratulations Stars and many congrats to your DP too, sounds like a rather an adrenaline filled birth.

Which at NCT last night I was told very rarely happens! Hmm

Flora - fab news about mini Flora, absolutely nothing wrong with being a short arse. :) Also great about not being under consultant care any longer, hopefully it'll all start to go a bit more smoothly now.

DP has asked what I want when I get home after having baby, thus far the list is smoked salmon, brie, huge glass of red wine and crumpets with lots of peanut butter.

Fuzzywood · 03/12/2010 19:02

Congratulations Stars.
Jjkm that's great news, sounds like your girls are real fighters.
Flora good news on the scans.
Sounds like everyone is doing well, long may it continue. I'm shattered today and only been to Tesco then made a cake with DD, I'm sure I'll get the mixture off everything soon Grin

BubbaAndBump · 03/12/2010 19:11

Massive congratulations stars to you and your family - love the name and that is a good weight for this stage! :o

Fab news for you too flora and jjkm - loving all the lovely news coming in - that's cheered me up lots!

SunOverStars · 04/12/2010 00:07

jjkm How great, how old were they and how are they doing now?

DS came off CPAP this morning, he is breathing 100% on his own and cried like a real baby earlier!

Now all he has to do is feed well and he will be home within a couple of weeks hopefully (fingers firmly crossed). He had his first milk feed today - 4 droplets of milk but he drank it himself through a bottle teat, what a good boy!! He's up to 2mL tube-feeding when asleep and out of a teat when awake. So pleased with him so far Smile

kelly2525 · 04/12/2010 00:51

Can i join in? Not due late Jan, but on the 14th, although apparently my little man is a bit on the small side, so, im told they may want to get him out earlier if hes still looking small at my next scan (on the 22nd)

Hi Kelly, welcome. Hope your next growth scan brings good news. I have another on the 17th.

It rained heavily here overnight which has cleared a lot of the snow, so I am heading out baby present shopping. My cousin had her baby on Wednesday (1st baby, 4hr labour, G&A only, no stitches or tearing, up & about at home the same day; the cow) and we have a friend whose 2nd is due any moment. Sticking to my usual formula of a 3-6 month outfit and some Hotel Chocolat (to help with BF, obv. Wink). Both babies are girls so I can go mad in the other half of the shop to where I normally loiter Smile.

Anyone else got any nice plans?

Fuzzywood · 04/12/2010 08:59

Morning all, we're off to get our Christmas tree today, can't persuade DD to wait any longer. All we need to do now us get DH out of bed and we'll be good to go (though as he stayed up all night watching the cricket I'm not sure he deserves a lie in).
Then my mum arrives for a visit on Monday to help sort out the nursery, must get the huge number of bags of baby clothes out of the loft before she arrives.
Have a great weekend all x

BubbaAndBump · 04/12/2010 10:16

Hi kelly and welcome - the more the merrier :)

Maybe your cousin's genes will be similar to yours flora and you'll have an easy labour too :)

No nice plans for me today sadly, I have to go to one of my best friend's mother's funeral so a very sad day for us. My parents are taking the girls for the afternoon though, so that should make it easier at least.

Glad my DH didn't stay up for the cricket, though he's asked me to check the score, so thought I'd pop onto MN first!

Hope everything went ok Bubba (Well as well as can be expected)
Congratulation Stars
Great to hear the update JJKM
Good news on the scan Flora
Welcome Kelly

We had our first Parent Craft class this week, no videos but one of the dad's managed to pass out within 10 minutes of it starting, to which the response from my hubby was well he won't be much use during labour he got a slap and a slight giggle from me (sorry if that was anyone's dp) !!!

Much better week this week, no sickness and wiggle has been performing some spectacular gymnastics in there, one minute solid bump on left then right - it's very reassuring!

Got our first family Christmas dinner tomorrow (minus the turkey!) so just relaxing tonight before the mayhem starts tomorrow!
