The old thread was getting quite full so I took the liberty of starting a new one, I hope nobody minds! I thought I'd keep in with our glowing and growing theme (I'm not very creative, sorry).

P.S I did BLWing with my DS and it's great, so much less faff, he's not wary of anythinglumoy, strong flavoured or unfamiliar. A problem I have encountered occasionally with babies weaned the puree route. He was very independant from an early age and it complemented BFing so well.

Of course it's messy but so is any weaning, even purees and there comes a point when you have to let them get on with it themselves whichever way you wean so with BLW it just comes a bit earlier that's all.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 11/10/2010 21:20

Those who are feeling brave (i.e. not me) are measuring their bumps in sheets of toilet paper on Tuesdays and listing the results... second week of that due tomorrow.

TheMulledBloodsOnMe · 11/10/2010 21:22

OK, never heard of that method before but sounds fun, I'll give it a go tomorrow Grin

Wanderingsheep · 11/10/2010 22:04

Hellooo!

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Tarlia, glad your scan went well! Hope you're not too disappointed that it's not a yeti but a baby will be fun too! Wink

Good luck to those who have scans tomorrow. It's so amazing to see how much they have changed from the 12 week scans. On the 12 week scan mine looked still very peanut like but on the 20 week one she looks just like a full grown baby. A strange very see through baby but a baby nonetheless!

I started to do BLW at 6 months last time but DD was quite slow to gain weight so I started to feed her more as I was worrying that she wasn't getting enough in her mouth. She soon got to a point where she wouldn't let me feed her at all anyway and would tantrum if I went to feed her with a spoon! The mess was crazy as she would "sort" what she did like from what she didn't and what she didn't like would be thrown on the floor. Has anybody ever seen the film "Baby Boom"? The scene with the spaghetti bolognaise? That was our house every meal time Grin.

I think that this time I will do a mixture and give finger foods and feed the messy stuff!

You will also see from the "you've been tangoed" photo that I had few concerns about DD's weight... Grin

Wanderingsheep · 11/10/2010 22:25

Aww, she is soooo cute Grin. I have a similar pic of DD somewhere! I think she had been eating either pasta or chicken tikka.

Wanderingsheep · 11/10/2010 22:28

Good idea to take their tops off before they eat, btw! A lot of DD's tops ended up covered in orange stains even with one of those long sleeved bibs on (the food would somehow drop down the sleeves).

wigglesrock · 11/10/2010 22:55

Ah I remember the joy of tomato soup!! Agree with wandering remove all tops unless you have shares in Vanish!! We're lucky, we have a dog, so any dropped food, hoovered up pretty quickly. Have now got quite bad heartburn although it might be excitement from watching Richard Armitage in Spooks Blush

Wanderingsheep · 11/10/2010 23:00

I've just necked some Gaviscon, wiggles! it's a PITA. I've been feeling really crampy today too which is annoying but feeling lots of movement, which is good! Smile

We used to have a dog which used to do the hoovering for us but we don't anymore.

Good TOILET PAPER TUESDAY morning ladies! Hope everyone is feeling fine today. I still measure 7.5 sheets wide, though probably not for much longer! My What to Expect When You're Expecting app says growth of bub doubles in the next 4 weeks! Enjoying all of Blw stories, I did a fair bit of it with DD, all seems like a distant memory now as do most things baby! I'll soon be reminded heh heh! I'm reading a completely brilliant book just now by Sheila Kitzinger called The New Experience of Childbirth, a classic apparently, first out in 1962 & updated. Very inspirational woman & inspirational reading! I'm enjoying a morning off work with the school hols as DD is now at pre-school & school hols and work don't mix as I'm discovering!! Nursery at 11.30 then back to work! Have a great day everyone.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 12/10/2010 08:22

Hello everyone and good TPT morning to you too earlgrey, have just measured and I'm the same as well so another 7.5 for the list. Really thought I had grown so was a bit shocked but if what you say is right then I guess we'll be buying shares in Andrex soon Wink

Really feel for everyone with heartburn, I've only had a few days of it so far, and one of those was in the first trimester, but I don't want it back. I was recommended peppermint oil tablets (think you get them in Holland and Barrett) but didn't take any so can't say if they work.

I'm not commenting on who's the hoover in this house but I don't have any pets....ah, he's out at work anyway so won't see this Grin

americanexpat · 12/10/2010 08:30

TPT - I'm 8.25 sheets this week (8 last week)

tadjennyp - that's exactly what I'm worried about: trying to navigate US immigration/customs/security on my own which makes me homicidal under normal circumstances. It's not possible to fly direct and it's usually 2 stops. I'd planned to use a sling but I didn't realise they make you take it off for security. How the hell is anyone supposed to manage on their own with a small child?

Good luck to everyone having scans this week, hopefully nothing but good news.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 12/10/2010 09:17

You just need a type of sling that is easy to fasten and unfasten quickly maybe something like a Connecta (or an Ergo, but Ergo as a company are a bit iffy). Ooh, or a Rose and Rebellion I covet one of those at the moment.

Just checking that you are aware that if your baby is entitled to US citizenship new US rules say that he MUST enter and leave the US on a US passport, not that of any other nationality he may have? I've seen a few other US expats on here who didn't know and have had to scramble to get the passports sorted in time.

angels1 · 12/10/2010 09:19

TPT - my bump has, erm, reduced to 9.5. Although I'm not sure if last week my measurement of paper was looser and I was pulling it more taut this morning Hmm . I did sigh giggle a bit as I ripped off what I thought would be way more than enough sheets to fit around my bump to measure, only to find it didn't quite fit, eek!

Off for scan in half an hour - v. Confused but also Grin .

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 12/10/2010 09:26

I'm off for scan in about 5 minutes (appointment scheduled for 10.30). Eek.

EauRouge · 12/10/2010 09:32

Good luck!

SlaughteredSheep · 12/10/2010 09:58

Good luck for your scans Prof and angels!

Toilet Paper Tuesday: I'm still the same - 8 sheets!

40Weeks · 12/10/2010 10:16

Hello ladies

Goos luck Prof and angles with your scans! How exciting - mine is on Thursday.

Have been off the radar a bit as have been a bit under the weather, had chronic abdominal pains through Sunday afternoon throughout the night and still dont feel great, esp as DS1 decided that 4.30am was 'wake up time' and I just caved (wouldnt normally but couldnt face the thrasging around in our bed or the thought of him waking DS2) so am sooooo tired today, plus am at work and have promised to meet a friend tonight as this might be the last time I see her before she goes on Mat leave and has moved far away (so wouldnt dream of cancelling).

On the plus side I have booked in for a head massage on Sat morning - CANT WAIT.

Off to loos now to measure bump as missed out last week (as DS2 had hand, foot & mouth disease so was at home with a cuddly mummy's boy)

How is everyone else doing? Hope I havent missed anything major!

40Weeks · 12/10/2010 10:25

Oh boo the toilet paper at work is one long roll so I cant do it!

Trojan1970 · 12/10/2010 11:04

Hello Ladies - long time no post. I've been brave enough to try the TPT measuring....I am 8.5 sheets.

Had a quick scan back through the last few pages, brilliant news for all the scans.

Good luck to all those going today, can't wait to hear how you've all got on later today.

Has anyone else got really itchy boobs? Mine are driving me crazy!! Blush

angels1 · 12/10/2010 11:18

well just to report all well at scan :) I'm just reading through the report and they did the usual of saying view was resitricted by lardy tummy apiposity. Sadly as she did all the measurement bits and swizzled the screen away from me so she could concentrate on what she was doing so I hardly got to see much :( Everything normal apart from abdominal circumference was so big it was falling off the little 'normal' scale she did, but she didn't say anything to make me worried about it. Maybe it'll just take after its mum and have a big tum!

Sadly baby in wrong position to tell sex, so she wasn't sure but said she thought it was a girl. Would be very excited if it is, but her uncertainty makes me a little Hmm at whether to go out and buy dresses yet.

The sonographer had me thrusting my hips up and down on the bench thing and rotating my tummy to try to move baby as it kept being in the wrong position - she said it was being very difficult - here's hoping this isn't the first sign of things to come!

I'm very glad all is well but I sort of have this odd empty feeling now - like I've been waiting for it so long and now it's gone and I don't know the sex still I just don't feel as elated as I thought I would be. Also a bit 'well that't it fr scans then', no more excitement to look forward to now until after its born. I'm very very very pleased all is healthy though :)

NeedToSleepZZZ · 12/10/2010 11:19

I have an itchy tummy, near the top Trojan and my boobs itch every now and then (normally because I've dropped a crumb down my bra though Blush ). Have you tried aloe gel from Body Shop, it's really soothing, I use it for everything. I'm still on the bio oil but its smell reminds me of ms so not such a fan anymore.

Looking forward to hearing scan news....

NeedToSleepZZZ · 12/10/2010 11:27

Oh angels, x posted! SO pleased to hear everything is healthy, you must be relieved about that. Are you planning to have a private scan later on? You could always find out the sex then. Sorry you didn't get to find out but if you look at your pics you might get an idea and there are some good websites to help you work it out.

I think your baby sounds like he/she was playing games with the sonographer because she wouldn't let you see!

I didn't mention it last week but my baby's measurements were all within the normal range (bit on the smaller side overall) apart from the biparietal head measurement which was off the scale (on the large side) completely.... ouch???!!! Shock

angels1 · 12/10/2010 11:33

that's funny needtosleep as with me everything is dead on average except a massive off the scale tummy and a smaller than average biparietal. SO your baby will have a big head and mine will have small head and big tummy!!! The tummy of mine doesn't look that massive on the scan piccie though... Hmm . You can see nothing as to the sex on the scan picuture - I've looked! I'm now considering a private scan in a few weeks as the not knowing kills me!! Anyone done 3d/4d scans? any comments about how worthwhile/good they are?

Hope prof is doing OK - her scan was at exactly same time as mine so was thinking of her Grin

wigglesrock · 12/10/2010 11:37

Congratulations angels glad all healthy, my baby was exceptionally unco-operative at scan, eventually all got measured but on the notes she had written "very difficult scan" after I read that Mr Wiggles had to restrain me from lamping her, my precious third child difficult as if Wink

Not wanting to create mischief but a midwife told me that if a sonographer will even slightly commit to saying its a girl it probably is, also if they say they can't tell its probably a girl as well. Of course I will no doubtedly be shot down in the next few minutes Grin
